Re: Nintendo Download: 20th September (North America)

Got the VC4 CE, and Torna physical version coming soon. Won't be getting any small eshop games, because next month is a big month for physical releases, for me. But I'm probably going to get Ultimate Chicken Horse, Stick of Truth, and Beat'Em Up bundle, eventually. Good stuff there.

Re: Guide: How To Get Nintendo Switch Online For Less Than $5 Per Year

Regpuppy

My only gripe with the online service is not the price, or even the cloud saves; 20 dollars yearly isn't a huge deal.

My gripe is with the forced phone app for voice chat and game features(like in Splatoon). I'm not sure if it comes from ignorant old CEO's in Japan, or just a cultural bubble with a phone obsession. But it's frustrating, and unnecessary.

Re: Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition Announced For Nintendo Switch

@NewAdvent Who said monthly? I just said they should release a schedule, or they should do it at regular intervals.

A general direct every three months, consistently, would be great. They already release this many, or more, general directs yearly, and that's not including different types of directs. It's just done sporadically. Pepper in game-specific, indie, and micro-directs as needed. Just keep your big first and third party announcements to these directs.

As for toxicity, I'll concede that it exists in every community, regardless. But irregular schedules don't help it either. It ends up just being confusing, and frustrating, for engaged fans.

Re: Dragon Ball FighterZ Producer Thanks Fans For Requesting Game On Nintendo Switch

@Wanjia The blurred lines between an open beta vs a stress test aside (open betas are meant to test things, including stability, when a lot of players are playing) the Japanese site pretty much called it a stress test, I think. Something just got lost in translation.

Either way, betas are how things are tested before the final release, because some things break when introduced to the public. Things like this are to be expected because this is the nature of betas. Problem being, thanks to indie PC games abusing the term, people keep mistaking "open beta" for "early demo"

@pika677 This here, what you're doing, is called a straw man. It's fine, if your only goal is to troll. But not if you want to make an actual point.

A lot of us openly admit to using the switch in portable mode, both in and out of the house. We don't have a problem with that. In fact, it's a huge draw for people who love games but don't love being tethered in front of their tv, for whatever reason.

What we don't like is "mobile games" which is code for phone games. Why? Because they're usually extremely simple, shallow, and often built around predatory microtransactions. Not all of them are necessarily bad, but they're not what we want on the Switch. If we wanted that, we'd just stick with our phones or tablets, and not bother with the 300 dollar gaming machine, with actual buttons and joysticks.

Re: Rumour: Yet Another Nintendo Direct To Air Tomorrow, Switch Online Details Incoming?

Regpuppy

If it's a proper direct, that would be great. I don't expect anything huge, but a few smaller games would be nice. Maybe a few ports and DX versions as well.

As long as it's not too indie or 3DS focused. If it were, I would be thoroughly dissapointed. Indies are fine, but we've already got a lot of them confirmed for the Switch. I really want some big and mid tier games to play.

Re: Sega Shares More Details On The Original Valkyria Chronicles Release For Switch

Glad to hear that VC1 will basically be a definitive edition. Really hope we get 2 and 3 sometime later as well. After playing the VC4 demo, I'm kicking myself for somehow missing this series when it came out.

Though that new VC4 info has me weighing just how essential the haffen tank figure + artbook are to me. I'll probably cave regardless, but it gives me something to ponder.

Re: All-Star Fruit Racing Finally Gets Online Support On Switch

It looks like a step up from the shovelware Kart games. But it still looks a little too rough for me, and there's nothing that makes it different enough to stand out for me.

I'm also not desperate for a Kart racer, since I'm not burned out on MK8D yet, so that doesn't help. I'd rather wait to see how Team Sonic Racing turns out, since I'm interested in the team mechanic.

Re: Nintendo Enforces Takedown Of Fan-Made Game Creator Pokémon Essentials

Regpuppy

My opinion is the same as it has always been. Fan games are fine, but when you flat out rip assets from their games, and put Pokemon in the name, you're asking for it.

They're obligated to defend their intellectual property, because not doing so could cause issues later when defending it against more serious infringement.

There's a relatively easy way to avoid the stress; use your own assets and/or, at the very least, don't put real pokemon in your game or title. You can even advertise it as a game inspired by pokemon and maybe even legally SELL it. Legitimate indie developers do this all the time. Some fan games even grow to be their own thing.
