Re: Sonic Monopoly Scraps The Usual Formula For Rings, Emeralds And Boss Battles

Regpuppy

@Heavyarms55 The problem with monopoly is that boardgames have come a long way. There are a lot of better options out there, both on the casual and hardcore ends of the spectrum. But yeah, I agree. It gets a bad rap that it doesn't deserve.

Also, people like to use a bunch of broken houserules that screw up the game economy. Which makes the game virtually unplayable, and can be impossible to finish in a reasonable time. Not to mention, they forget the property auction rule. Which fills the board up faster. The vast majority of people I played it with were just taught to play it wrong.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl #7 - Star Fox

Regpuppy

The NA one has less noisy text than the EU version, and it gets the name right. But I have no clue what they were doing with that image composition.

On the other hand, the EU handles the background better. But the text is too messy, and I hate the name change. At least for that version. GrailUk shows a German version that's a lot better.

Overall, though, the Japanese version is superior on all fronts. I mean, I much prefer the box shape of the NA/EU SNES games. But their artists definitely utilized the vertical length of the box to good effect.

Re: SNES Games Are Officially Headed To Switch Online, And 20 Titles Release Tomorrow

Regpuppy

Gimme that Starfox 2 eventually, pl0x. Then we can talk about Starfox 64 on the off chance they add N64 games in some form.

That aside, things are starting to get good. I still appreciate having the NES games, and I hope they keep releasing more alongside the SNES games. But the SNES games are where games start feeling beefier. Looking forward to being able to carry all of these around with me.

Re: GameStop's Internal Database Lists Multiple New SKUs For Switch

Regpuppy

@YourGoodFriendly oh, well I guess I focused on the 4 months thing. In that case, I wouldn't expect much more than a few hints at games that may hit next year... At some point. Nintendo likes to keep a lot of things under wraps.

I mean, all they gave us during last year's september direct was just "2019" for a few titles. So I wouldn't expect a lot from a September direct. If we're lucky, we'll get a few announcements for January and a January/February direct to fill out that time.

Re: Ghostrunner Brings Cyberpunk Parkour Action To Switch Next Year

Regpuppy

@FiveDigitLP Yeah, the parkour elements of mirror's edge type parkour games, and ehat looks like powers/gadget from Dishonored/Bioshock. That sounds like a pretty cool combo. Especially when wrapped in a cyberpunk theme. Which is one of the few themes that's not grossly oversaturated right now. At least not yet, anyway.

Though, I have a feeling that might change after Cyberpunk 2077. So I'm glad this game will get in before the wave drowns it out. Lol

Re: Activision Eager To Revive More Classics After The Success Of Crash Bandicoot

Regpuppy

Due to how good the Crash and Spyro trilogies are, I'm somewhat interested. But the moment I see another ingame store is the moment I pass on that game. Even without it, I'll probably wait on it.

I stupidly jumped into CTR thinking it was safe, despite the in-game shop. But then I felt the grind for the Tawna event, and quickly realized my mistake. Go figure, it was just a taste of the grind for the potential whales when they rolled out the MTX.

Re: Deals: Starlink: Battle For Atlas Starter Pack Drops To A Ridiculous £10.99 In The UK

Regpuppy

I ended up getting it myself when it dropped to 20-something USD. (On sale) Before that, it was a hard sell. Partly because I'm burned out on Ubisoft open world games, and partly because it's not all on Cart. But it's worth it at these prices. If only to have the Fox and Arwing figures on your shelf.

As for the game itself, it's alright. Aside from the combat, it still shares a lot in common with Ubisofts typical Open world games. Meaning most of the "content" is open world fluff. I found myself starting to get bored towards the end, and just started rushing through the main and starfox story content. Both of which are fairly short, if you ignore most side missions.

Worth a play through at this price. But I'd avoid it if you're an obsessive completionist. 100%ing it is tedious as hell.

Re: Crash Team Racing Will Soon Allow Players To Buy Wumpa Coins With Real Money

Regpuppy

Yup, kind of figured this was the case. The way the shop was set up, the seasons, and just how grindy it all was. All of these things pointed to a game primed for MTX. I stopped bothering with the Tawna event when I realized how much I'd have to grind to unlock them.

I guess this is just the thing they do now. Shipping without MTX, and adding them in later. It's an easy way to avoid negative attention during launch. But I thought they'd at least be patient enough to wait until the holiday season passed.

Welp, time to not even bother with Beenox games for the first year or two. Can't be too certain they won't dump MTX into their games.

Re: Nintendo Wants The Switch Business To Continue For As Long As Possible

Regpuppy

This is to no one's surprise. I fully expect a cheaper Switch-mini by this, or the next year's, holiday season. This should be enough to get in more casual people, kids, and 3DS holdouts.

Then, ideally, they can head off or respond to the next gen with a Switch Pro for core gamers. It would be enough to get more games at a consistent 60/720p on portable and 60/1080p TV to make me happy.

Re: Retro Studios Is Seeking An Art Director For Metroid Prime 4

Regpuppy

@Dev893 I doubt it. Game development takes awhile to get anything worthy of showing to the public, and they confirmed that they basically scrapped what the previous studio was doing.

With them still looking for an art director, I imagine they're still in hiring and pre-production phase. Where they're still sketching out the direction they want the game to go. There's no reason to say anything about it because there's not much to say.

Re: The Nintendo Direct Presentation For E3 2019 Will Be About 40 Minutes

Regpuppy

With a 40 minute runtime, I don't expect all of it is going to be brief announcements. So I expect a deep dive on one or more games, along with some dates for games we know about, and a dash of surprise announcements to top it off. Not to mention some DLC, like the new Smash character.

Nintendo really doesn't have to do much to shine for E3 right now. Everyone else is mostly throwing softballs.

Re: The Next DLC Fighter For Smash Ultimate Will Be Revealed At Nintendo's E3 Direct

Regpuppy

I doubt many of us are surprised. But I guess it's good to have confirmation. Now I just need to dodge all the leaks, real or fake, for a few more days. Lol

I'm extremely curious to see who's next after Joker. If they follow it up with generic FE protagonist #6, a lot of people will probably be underwhelmed (I'm giving Corrin and Robin a pass, since they actually have their own gimmick.)

Re: Pokémon Sword And Shield Introduces Open World Area, Multiplayer Raids And Dynamax Battles

Regpuppy

I can't help but roll my eyes a little at the dynamax gimmick. I also think it's a bit much to praise the wild area, because it's nothing groundbreaking for the genre. It's not much different than hyrule fields, or similar areas in a lot of adventure/JRPG games, or even the pokemon series itself. Granted, it looks beefier than previous games. So that's good.

All that being said, I'm a lot happer with Sword/Shield overall than I was with Let's Go. While it's not exactly a huge jump, it seems like an actual step forward for the series. Not a step back, like Let's Go was. I'm still starved for information on things like clothing, side content, amount of catchable Pokemon, story, and so on. But I'm feeling a bit more optimistic than I was initially.

Re: Video: New Saints Row: The Third Switch Trailer Shows Off Its Over-The-Top Comedy

Regpuppy

@Jayenkai If you've played a grand theft auto game, then you pretty much know what you're getting. You need to do story missions to unlock some of the on-map optional missions. But the map is free roam, for the most part.

The main difference between the two series is tone. GTA is a parody of real life that's just a little over the top. Saint's Row, on the other hand, started off as a GTA-like series. But SR3, and onward, just go completely over the top. If you don't mind goofy, then SR 3 is a fun open world game, with cars.
