Re: Pokémon Sword And Shield Revealed For Nintendo Switch, New Starters Shown

Regpuppy

From what I can tell, it's almost exactly what I expected. The trailer showed us the names, graphics, starters, and a bit of the region, but not much else. Can't say I'm hyped until I see more, but at least the region looks interesting.

I just hope there is either an interesting new gimmick, or at least enough content to warrant the 60 dollars this time. I'm not expecting the world, just enough to keep things spicy. Because I'm not sure if I'll buy this, at this point. Which is saying something, because I've been a huge fan since Red and Blue.

Re: Smash Bros. Ultimate And Super Mario Party Nominated For Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Award

Regpuppy

@TheFox 3+ hours was if you went a full 50 turns. You could drop it down to 10 turns and knock out some really quick games as well. I didn't always do 50 turns, but it was a nice option for when playing on the couch with friends or family.

As for it seeming arbitrary, I hate to say that this is pretty much a staple feature of the series. Having a higher skill really only means you win more often, but not always, and this has been a thing in Mario Party since the beginning.

Re: Rumour: Pokémon Direct Video Tags Suggest Generation 8 Will Indeed Be Shown Tomorrow

Regpuppy

Gamefreak is way too consistent to be surprised by this. I expect a trailer that's pretty much an extended commercial, with the minimum amount of information. We'll likely learn the starter base forms, the titles, how the graphics look, and maybe a new gimmick. I don't expect too much past that. Gamefreak prefers to drip feed us all the way up to a holiday season launch.

Also, hype is a strong word. I've prepared myself for dissappointment, so I've set my expectations pretty low. It helps that 2019's lineup is strong enough for me to take this hit. Lol

Re: UK Charts: Smash Bros. Ultimate Returns To Top Ten But EA's Anthem Takes Top Prize

Regpuppy

@saintayu That is far from what I read in your initial post, but I feel like I'm not going to get anywhere with this. I'll just note that I didn't poke at anyone with positive opinions on Anthem because they had a different view point. I specifically focused on you, because you specifically questioned why we bothered giving negative opinions on Anthem, on a forum dedicated to our opinions.

But, regardless, I'll put my hands up and leave it at that. It seems we've scared everyone else away.

Re: UK Charts: Smash Bros. Ultimate Returns To Top Ten But EA's Anthem Takes Top Prize

Regpuppy

@saintayu I'm not intending to seem combative. You've just been acting squirrelly on this subject, and you keep changing the goal post. In your first post, you poked at everyone for being "negative" because they said they didn't like the game. Then you tried drawing a false equivalence to the server issues Smash had to the core issues people were having with Anthem.

After that, you decided to bring up RDR2, sales, critics, and so on, which makes it hard to pin down what your point is. Now you're bringing up Nintendo bias, as though we're the only ones that aren't happy with the game. There are a lot of people who were excited for, and paid full price for the game. But were severely let down by how mediocre it was. I have a lot of friends, who I warned to temper their expectations. But were let down anyway, because they were looking for their next long-term game.

Also, again, sales is not necassarily a good indicator of quality. As I pointed out before, Apple is a good example of an overpriced/inferior product being successful because of amazing marketing. Unfortunately, you can have the funnest game in the world. But it won't matter if no one knows it exists.

Re: Horizon Chase Turbo ESRB Classification Suggests A Physical Release Is On The Way

Regpuppy

@TadGhostal I've decided awhile ago to only focus on physical games, until in the console's later years. Eshop games will be there, until the console's online support is cut off 5+ years after the console is essentially replaced. But the 3rd party physical games often stop production a few years in, unless they're real big hitters.

Stuff like this doesn't help either, of course. I was close to picking up Shovel Knight for awhile, but I felt vindicated the moment they announced a physical version. Lol

Re: UK Charts: Smash Bros. Ultimate Returns To Top Ten But EA's Anthem Takes Top Prize

Regpuppy

@saintayu Who said anything about critics? I don't really care what most critics are saying, I'm just giving my opinion. So please don't try to put words in my mouth.

Also, let's try to remember how this chain started. It wasn't because I was trying to discredit any positive opinions on Anthem. It's because YOU were trying to dismiss negative opinions on Anthem, and positive opinions on Smash Ultimate, because you didn't agree with them. So it's a little funny you're pulling the "it's subjective" card now.

As for sales, that doesn't necessarily mean something is good. It often means something was marketed more effectively.
We only need to look at companies like Apple to prove this.

Re: UK Charts: Smash Bros. Ultimate Returns To Top Ten But EA's Anthem Takes Top Prize

Regpuppy

@saintayu The difference is that Anthem's problems are not simply limited to its online element. There are a lot of issues in core gameplay loop, content, and technical aspects, like load times. Smash Ultimate, at the very least, has satisfying gameplay and content, all things considered.

Granted, they're nowhere as bad as the dumpster fire that is Fallout 76. But they're still not great. Especially for a game that initially asked for 60 bucks, has expensive MTX, and silly early access schedules. Let's not even start on how overhyped the marketing was.

Re: Splatoon 2's #GearForAll Social Media Movement Fights Exclusive Japanese Content

Regpuppy

@Shads Honestly, if it's a matter of licensing. They could just release it as cheap DLC, and work out royalties with CoroCoro. Considering CoroCoro will get zero dollars from the west otherwise, I don't see how that would be a lose for them.

Edit; All this being said, I'll agree that this isn't as serious as some people make it out to be. But I think a very small number of people are getting that crazy about it either. People are just expressing annoyance in text form, which can often seem harsher than it really is.

Re: Splatoon 2's #GearForAll Social Media Movement Fights Exclusive Japanese Content

Regpuppy

I don't understand regional gear, unless there is some sort of limited license involved. The assets already exist, the stats are set, and I doubt it would take much to localize a few item descriptions for other regions. Even in the case of things that might seem culturally specific. When has that ever gotten in the way of people enjoying in-game items?

All that being said, I have my doubts about whether hashtags are taken seriously by Nintendo.

Re: Japanese Charts: Jump Force Kicks New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe Out Of The Top Spot

Regpuppy

The concept of Jump Force seemed awesome. But the execution leaves much to be desired. You'd think with all these expensive franchises being involved, they would have pulled out all the stops and given us at least something as polished as the average DBZ fighter. But nope, once the novelty wears off, you're left with something that shouldn't have costed you 60 bucks.

Unfortunate. :/

Re: Reminder: Nintendo Sending Out Survey About Daemon X Machina Demo

Regpuppy

@penamiguel92 Did you customize your much for speed? At first, I just looked at the durability stats and didn't bring up the expanded stat menu. So my mech felt like it was flying through pudding, though it could tank hits like a champ. But then i took a closer look and noticed there is a lot more to the stats of each part. Then I gathered up a bunch of fast parts, and my mech got noticeably faster.

I imagine we were just getting the low tier stuff you'd expect from the first few levels. So there will likely be higher tier parts that let you lower the weight and up the speed even further, although you'll be a glass cannon at that point.

There were also some skill points you could throw towards your arsenal's boost, which helps a ton. Also, you can do missions again and keep getting parts. They have at least one set of heavy and one set of light parts.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Has Plans To Revive A "Dead And Buried" Game

Regpuppy

@Retsam The person in question said this before Disney/Lucasarts signed a multi-year exclusive licensing deal with EA. Meaning that the only company capable of reviving 1313 is EA, and that is extremely doubtful. Disney/Lucasarts reserved the right to license out the ip for casual games, but that is not what 1313 was going to be.

So I'd say that hope for Star Wars 1313 is thoroughly dead. You're free to keep hoping, but EA has made it clear that they're not really interested in single player games right now. It doesn't help that Disney has stated that they're happy enough with their licensing deal.

A shame, really.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Has Plans To Revive A "Dead And Buried" Game

Regpuppy

There are way too many games that just fell off the radar to get my hopes up for anything specific. So even if I trust this, I'm not exactly sure I can get hyped about it yet.

Not that I need much more this year. All these summer games will have me busy for awhile. That being said, I wouldn't mind some more sci-fi and/or action games.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Could Make Its First VR Announcement For Switch This Year

Regpuppy

I have strong doubts about this one. I love the Switch. But the current hardware simply is not prepared for it. They could always try anyway, but I don't think results would be much better than it was for labo.

I mean, I don't doubt they're experimenting with VR in some R&D department somewhere. I also don't doubt they looked into it for Switch. But I don't see it being on our favorite little handheld, without a beefy pro revision, standalone VR like Oculus is doing, or an actual new home console alongside the Switch.

Re: Random: The Conspiracy Chatter Is Growing: Maybe There Is No Star Fox Grand Prix

Regpuppy

People really need to stop taking the word of rumor mongers and "leakers" as gospel, just because they get a few things right. I mean, Nintendo being Nintendo, anything can happen. But I've doubted this from the beginning, because the Starfox franchise isn't in a strong enough position to leverage the ip in random spinoffs. It works with Mario, or Pokemon, because of insane popularity. But Starfox hasn't had a successful game in a long time. If anything, I fear it's close to being mothballed, along with F-Zero.

If we get anything Starfox related on the Switch. It will either be a Zero port, or something that at least resembles a space shooter. If I'm wrong, I'll take that L. But the only thing giving me any hope for a Starfox game, period, is the Starlink crossover. Meaning Nintendo at least hasn't forgotten the ip. But they might also just leave it at that, so my hopes are pretty low.

Re: Japanese Poll Discovers That Vast Majority Of Viewers Were Pleased With The Nintendo Direct

Regpuppy

I liked it, it gave me some demos I wanted along with a loaded summer. Loved the Daemon X Machina demo specifically, and will definitely be picking that one up. Add these games to the other ones announced outside of the direct, and summer is going to be ridiculous.

I only wish it had one beefy game for Spring. But that's not really something that will ruin this direct for me, especially since we keep getting announcements outside of the direct.

As for people upset about the direct. I imagine they're the types who are always upset, because they fall for fake leaks or they're never happy, until that ONE game they wanted is announced. Calm down, Animal Crossing fans. It might just be a holiday season game. We're not going to get EVERYTHING in an early year direct. Wait for E3.

Re: Feature: The Big Nintendo Direct Summary - 13th February

Regpuppy

Definitely a solid direct, and the baffling thing is that it's mostly between spring and fall. The fact that we most likely have a new Pokemon game, Animal Crossing, and Luigi's Mansion 3 suppose to come out this year as well has me wondering just how much they can pack into this year.

Re: Oh Look, Assassin's Creed III Remastered Has Finally Been Confirmed For Switch

Regpuppy

I'm not sure if I'll pick this up, at least for myself. But I'm hoping if this does well, they bring over the Ezio collection. I have a family member who I just got into gaming, bought her own Switch, and I think she'd like the core gameplay of Assassin's Creed. But I'd hate to pay for this one out of all of the other AC entries. Especially since I started her on BOTW and Skyrim. This one just doesn't feel like a good start. Lol

Re: Sony Gaming Boss Says The Industry Is "Better" Because Of Nintendo's Efforts

Regpuppy

@Heavyarms55 That's exactly my point as well, so forgive me for being unclear in my post. The fame of these ips means these companies with exclusive rights don't have to try that hard with them, as long as they satisfy the bottom line of the ip owner, unfortunately. Which, thanks to the nature of their MTX, seems to be an easy thing to do for them.

Re: Sony Gaming Boss Says The Industry Is "Better" Because Of Nintendo's Efforts

Regpuppy

@Heavyarms55 I wish more ips had a similar open licensing strategy to Warhammer 40k. You get some lackluster games, but you also get some amazing gems like Vermintide, Dawn of War, Space Hulk, and Total War: Warhammer series. A lot of variety in gameplay and tone, that still fits the ip.

Then we go to the opposite side of the spectrum, with EA and 2k. EA releases two games for Star Wars, one being a direct sequel, and neither of them is really "finished" at release, and rely on DLC and excessive MTX to complete the experience. In the same time, before this deal, we had more than a dozen Star Wars games, and a lot of them were decent to good, a few even being amazing. I loved the original Battlefront 2, KOTOR 1/2, and Rogue Squadron. But now we have clones of Battlefield, which wouldn't be a problem if Battlefield wasn't getting a bit stale as a series.

Both EA and 2k hold exclusive deals with sports franchises, so they just release what is essentially the same game every year, with slight graphical improvements and updated stats/rosters, then load them up with egregious MTX. Things like this can happen, because EA and 2k are the only place casual gamers can get their fix.

Re: Nintendo Direct To Air Tomorrow, Wednesday 13th February

Regpuppy

Wonder if this one will be geared towards Fire Emblem, since they saw fit to mention it specifically. Regardless, I just need a date for Daemon X Machina and Fire Emblem for me to be happy. Anything else is extra, since I'm not a masochist letting myself overhype.

Hype responsibly, folks.

Re: Talking Point: Is A Nintendo Direct Really On The Way?

Regpuppy

I really don't know. Nintendo is Nintendo, and I find it increasingly difficult to predict them. Especially since I take even "credible leakers" with a heap of salt.

If we do end up getting one soon. I would just like some dates, or at least the release windows narrowed down, for games that are confirned for this year. Like Daemon X Machina, Luigi's Mansion 3, and Animal crossing. If we at least get some of that during this rumored direct, I'd be happy. I'm not expecting any big reveals until at least E3, though.

Regardless, I'm expecting some spicy comments all over the Nintendo fandom. People are hyping things up a bit too much, and it'll be even worse if it doesn't end up happening at all.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (February 9th)

Regpuppy

Mostly just been me finishing up some of my backlog. Finally getting around to Super Mario Odyssey and Starlink, after finishing off the Crash Trilogy, Smash WOL, and some other games I was most of the way through on. I spread out a bit to prevent myself from burning out on a Game, so it took forever. But I'll be done with a ton of games soon, ready for more. Feels good, man.

What I do after all this highly depends on the direct. I have other games, but none of them are hardhitters. So I'm currently eyeing Daemon X Machina, and Luigi's mansion 3. But I don't know when they'll be out.

Re: Hollow Knight ESRB Classification Suggests A Physical Release Is Finally Happening

Regpuppy

@Nintendofan83 @subpopz Not really a loophole, because games don't legally need an ESRB rating. The ESRB rating is almost purely self-regulation, not legal, and it was only really made necessary by retail stores refusing to carry unrated games.

Since digital games don't need to go through a retailer, it's pretty much up to the digital platform owners as to whether they allow games not rated by the ESRB.
