Considering Nintendo UK accidentally listed a page for Spyro Reignited Trilogy (under the name Spyro the Dragon Remastered), it's not exactly a push to say it's all but confirmed to be coming to the Nintendo Switch at some point in the future.
Nevertheless where there's no actual confirmation, there's stuff to talk about, or at least we say there is. We roped in the lovely Sammy Barker from our sister site Push Square to get his hot take on the situation, what with him being a Playstation-type and all that. Make sure you check out the video above to hear what he has to say.

Word up son
Is Sammy an editor for PushSqaure?
I thought he was just a regular user
and people say infinity war is the greatest cinematic crossover ever
I'd rather have this announced along with the other versions if it is coming to Switch. I have the option to pre-order on PS4 right now, and the only thing holding me back is waiting for confirmation on Switch. If they wait too long, I'll just get it on PS4.
@kyleforrester87 Just when I thought I was safe on Nintendolife...
Anyways, I think that a Switch version exists but was added fairly late in development so it won't be able to launch with the other versions, and Activision doesn't want to mention it until it has a solid release date.
There aren't too many people torn between buying the Xbox version and the PS4 version. Commercial shenanigans.
@ilikeike 😂
I love the blunt, dry wit of the Push Square team. It's not every site that sometimes starts an article with "Oh FFS."
I'm surprised that NintendoLife didn't know about Spyro on Nintendo systems. I have several: Season of Ice and Season of Flame on the Game Boy Advance, and Shadow Legacy on the DS.
But pretty much every Spyro game since Season of Ice (including the Skylanders games) has been on a Nintendo platform, either as a multi-platform release or a Nintendo exclusive.
@astrofan1993 You're absolutely correct. There are actually more Spyro games on Nintendo platforms than Sony platforms!
It'll be announced on a Direct. That I can definitely see.
a switch version would be great (even though i would still get the PS4 version) but when i get a Switch i would love to be able to play Spyro on the go
@kyleforrester87 Haha word up son.
Pushsquare rocks!
[Edit - so does NL]
@Cheski this guy gets it. It doesn't matter at this point if it's coming or not. It wasn't announced along side the other versions. This is the age old problem Nintendo has had since the Wii days (GCN support would at least be announced alongside, even though the system failed for other reasons). And it's Nintendo's problem, not the 3rd parties.
with a new Tomb Raider and Dragon Quest landing in September - could care less if on PS4 or Switch - not an option either way on that month.
Nintendo needs a big game for September not more remastered stuff
@astrofan1993 Are those games any good?
@kyleforrester87
@AlexOlney In case you're still wondering, I play this one back in the day:
@gatorboi352 no it isn't. You honestly think there are power issues involved in getting remastered PS1 games running? FFS
I think again based on what happened with Crash, that Spyro will end up on Switch eventually.
@gortsi why don't you think there are power issues though? I can easily see them needing more time to better optimise the game for Switch. PS4 and Xbox have bigger overheads so developers can simply be a bit lazier.
Look at some games on PS4, off the top of my head games like EDF, Evil Within 1, even 2D games like Bro Force struggle, or at least struggled at launch due to poor optimisation, and that's on more powerful hardware. It's not that the Switch isn't capable, it's just not as easily capable.
I'm sure it'll be confirmed at some point, I have a pre-order sitting in my Store Nintendo account that hints in that direction!
Cool. I'm not a big Spyro fan, aside from GBA's Eternal Night and Skylanders, but this oughtta make Spyro fans very happy.
I assume since the team responsible for porting Crash N Sane over to Switch, perhaps that's why there's been no confirmation?
@mikegamer most likely in my opinion.
@kyleforrester87 Yeah, Toys For Bob may port this too, only time will tell. But I have a PS4 as well, so, hmm.
@mikegamer I'm kind of thinking PS4 since it'll look so good in higher res with HDR but I don't deny I'd probably get more mileage out of a Switch version.
I played this originally on PS1. To play it on anything else other than Playstation is almost a sin to me. Soooo, I'll probably be one of those who has it on PS4 and Switch, haha.
Ugh, how long are you going to milk this cow NL?
@Cheski
Well, Acti-Blizzard don't care either way. They get the money.
The timing of the announcement of the Switch version will be interesting. If the game is same date as on PS4/XB1 then that's Nintendo delaying it to, say, E3 for their reasons ((cough) Amiibo (cough)). No problem as there's plenty of time for people who want a portable version to Switch (hey) preorders.
If it's later then that's Acti-Blizzard looking at preorders for Crash and trying to repeat the trick and get double dips.
And wheres the PC version?
Spyro has been on the GameCube, and game boy advance along with crash so how can Alex say he is a Nintendo fan if he has never come across them before.
@Agramonte
Not to mention Spider-Man. Big month. Nintendo need Smash or something similar.
@BensonUii I'm 100% positive a similar ban would be in effect here if every single game coming to Switch was full of comments like "Omfg where's the PS4 version?!"
Who cares about the PS4/Xbox One versions anyway? Barring extreme technical mishaps like Arkham Knight or Nier: Automata, a PC version is always going to trump those versions in every single way possible. Why can't we get more games that simultaneously release on PC too? Not just Switch, but PC too. Monster Hunter World has its PC release at a later date, and Red Dead Redemption 2 is only consoles so far. Why?????
Only Switch versions can compete with PC because of that added draw of portability. Sure, it won't work for everyone but if you want good graphics and performance, why go half-way with console versions? Don't half-heartedly go for the console versions.
I liked the original Spyro games on PSOne, but went off the series after becoming a Nintendo fan. I don't have a PS4 or Xbox, so would love for Spyro to come to Switch!
I think it'd be rad to get Spyro on Nintendo again. Remember Season of Fire/Ice on GBA and the one on GameCube? Good stuff.
sigh the good ol' days.
Yea, it probably is coming to the Switch, Nintendo probably wanted to wait and announce it themselves because there will probably be an amiibo figure tied into the title.
Seriously, you can't announce a title like this and make it available on a platform like Xbox and not on Nintendo, that would be stupid and kind of insulting.
I'll buy it when it comes to Switch, otherwise no thanks. I don't want it on my ps4, I barely touch the system anymore.
@BensonUii Well I've been on PS the same amount of time you've been on here and generally find it a great place with very nice people.
I'm not a big poster here by comparison but NL are guilty of one or two crazies too.
I have to say, the weird NL/PS rivalry is quite funny, though. "PS readers are the worst!" Uhhu ookaayy!
@BensonUii I guess we have different views, which of course is OK, because I've always found the editors and mods here and at PS seem to be pretty even on stunts that I would consider unprofessional within the community. I guess I don't see too many of the bad comments, mainly because the first time I see one, I immediately ignore that person. Such a shame you can't do that with editors and mods.....
I can appreciate Nintendo's approach to leveraging announcements to be announced on their own time.
But I'd be lying if I said it wasn't frustrating at times. Because it feels like nobody ever announces anything for Switch along with other versions (there are exceptions, but as a general observation). And whenever a game gets announced you never know if it's actually coming or not.
Idk. In the end they're gonna do what they're gonna do. I just take it in stride and look forward to one game at a time
The Direct comes a few months after Spyro's release on PS4 and Xbox. It's followed by a short where Spyro and Crash meet each other and high five.
Then they get sprayed with ink by Inkling Boy and Inkling Girl.
The Smash Bros. logo appears over all four of them.
Suddenly the delayed announcement makes sense.
"Provides expert insight" lol.
It's a timed release, much like Crash we get this on other systems next year most likely.
@Matthewxcv Oh and you are an expert?? Lol
@Tasuki No. And I never claimed to be.
@gatorboi352 "This is the age old problem Nintendo has had since the Wii days... the system failed for other reasons)."
The Wii failed?! It sold 101 million units! What constitutes success? I really don't get you. What on Earth does Nintendo have to do to please you? Sell 500 million Switches with only exclusive, AAA third party titles, putting Sony and Microsoft out of business? That's never going to happen.
Wasn’t Burnout Paradise Remastered rumored to be coming to Switch?
I really DO hope we get it on Switch. I could just get it on PS4, but... a Switch release is much more desirable.
@BensonUii Basically what you're saying is it's a different culture, therefore it's bad. I often mention Nintendo on PS and have no problem, but then I have other stuff to say too. Trouble is you see the same people popping up just to talk about Nintendo without ever really contributing to the topic at hand and they rightly get knocked back for it. As I say, the culture might not be the same as it is here, and I agree that the mods don't always get it right, but I promise it's a cool community 👍🏻
Not fussed. Spyro is, was and always will be a pile of ****.
Crash was better. Nowhere near the league of Mario in terms of a platformer. Well... 2 was at least, 3 was an utter diabolical, over hyped useless limping turd of a game; BUT better than Spyro and worth getting the trilogy for 2. Spyro however, can be left where he is for all I’m fussed.
Was Spyro actually any good in the first place? How does it stack up against the Mario series? Just wondering...
@BensonUii @kyleforrester87 @RedMageLanakyn In case you're wondering. The same rules apply over here, but we simply don't have the manpower to moderate the comment sections the way PushSquare does it. The editors over at PushSquare are very active in the comment sections also, and they effectively moderate it as well, as does Tasuki.
Sifting through the alerts we get on a single day can easily take up to 30 minutes to an hour every day. So I don't read the comment sections anymore, and I only go by the alerts, because we also have to keep an eye on the forums.
That being said, if nearly every comment section was derailed by the mentioning of the PS4, I'm certain we'll hand out a few warnings as well. I have no problem with off-topic talk, as long as it doesn't derail nearly every single thread or comment section. But I have no idea how to save some of the comment sections on NLife, haha!
@BensonUii I agree that Tasuki is heavy handed, I've butted heads with him a couple times, but also keep in mind on average, an article over at PS tends to have maybe 30 comments, so it's a heck of a lot easier to moderate there than it is here.
I'm not going to dig through my own comment history, but i can think of quite a few times I mentioned Switch or PC in relation to an article and didn't receive a warning of any type, so I'd say you're exaggerating a bit.
Edit: I didn't see @octane comment before posting my own, but yeah, basically what I was getting at.
@BensonUii I agree with you totally, though i can see the points of Octane etc as well, but i think where the SQ mods overstep the line is that they are quite insulting to people, one even mocked someone for having mental health issues a few weeks back which was totally out of order.
Preordered PS4 version. Will change that to Switch version if announced before PS4 comes out and Switch version has identical or at least reasonably close release date.
@Agramonte Switch online and probably smash releases in September
I might get this. I haven't played any of these Spyro games before. Not that I didn't own a PS1, I just wasn't into these kind of platformers back in those days, preferring the JRPG's, adventure and fighting game genres. But yeah, these look like mellow kind of fun.
@TheLobster That's some strategic use of an ellipsis point! The Gamecube failed for different reasons but you somehow made it apply to Wii and now arguing against a point no one made. (Disclaimer - I don't often agree with Alligatorboy, but we don't have to bend his words to do it lol.)
@SimplyCinnamon53 I'd say they are. Most of them, anyway.
Season of Ice and Season of Flame are highly similar to the original trilogy, with the most of the same objectives and gameplay mechanics, but the camera is an overhead view instead of a third-person view. Overall, I definitely recommend them.
Shadow Legacy, for the DS, is more of an RPG-style Spyro game, in that you need to upgrade his abilities as you progress through the game. It's not the worst game ever, but I've heard it wasn't as good as most Spyro games. Still, I recommend it, as it's the last entry in the original continuity, before The Legend of Spyro trilogy rebooted the series.
@GrailUK Ah, I did not even realize he was talking about the Gamecube. He said "it" when the last console he mentioned was the Wii. The real problem here is the pronoun game! I would not have gotten so upset about calling the Gamecube a failure - it did do worst after the Wii U after all, even though I love it (excluding that red and black literal eyesore that shall not be named).
It will happen! My stance is the same as with the Crash trilogy: I would love to buy it, but only if all 3 games come on the cart!
I played the Crash games at a friend back in the day, and loved them. They felt like Sony's answer to Donkey Kong, namely a cooler alternative to Mario!
I never played any Spyro's, but I love to!
@whitespy12 Infact the 3 spyro trilogy games were Playstations only exclusives. All the other spyro games ever made werent on it lol. I mean peole like to think spyro is a sony thing🤔 Its totaly not so, spyro wasnt even sonys property to begin with ever, just borrowed from Universal,
