![1.2 SN30 Pro Switch.jpg](https://images.nintendolife.com/da99cf494ceea/1-2-sn30-pro-switch.900x.jpg)
Pre-orders for 8Bitdo's SN30 and SF30 Pro controllers have gone live today.
The pads - modelled on the North American SNES and Super Famicom designs respectively - boast a full button set with clickable analogue joysticks, cross-shaped D-pad, rumble, motion controls, bluetooth, rechargeable battery, home and screenshot buttons and a USB-C connector. They're compatible with Switch, Windows, Mac and Android.
In addition to these pads, 8Bitdo is also releasing a special smartphone clip for $7.99 which is compatible with "nearly all" handsets and allows you to turn your phone into a proper portable gaming device.
We've not had chance to get our hands on these pads yet but as you'll know from our previous reviews, 8Bitdo products are amazing in terms of build quality and performance, so these could end up being the best wireless control option money can buy. Speaking of which, the SN30 and SF30 Pro cost $49.99 each.
Will be be placing a pre-order? Which design will you be going for? Let us know with a comment.

Those look amazing. I'll definitely be picking one up.
I might be interested in these if they would actually release some Virtual Console games, though I do suspect they are just around the corner. It took the Wii U five months to get Virtual Console games, and we are only slightly behind that schedule. I imagine Nintendo is waiting until the SNES Classic clears the market before announcing anything so as not to steal its thunder.
I hope they fix the battery it gets damaged and dry up very fast, love ther gamepad, but the battery is really a problem.
Those looks amazing, will wait for drop in price however, for 20 more I get a pro controller
Another .gif file on the home page. The SN30 looks lovely. And I agree with the above comment, they are a bit pricey when the official Pro Controller isn't that much more in cost.
I love my NES30 Pro and may need to get this one for the better sticks and improved shoulder button positions. At $50 it's significantly cheaper than the official pro controller and looks like a very good alternative.
8bitdo are the champions of retro controllers, and I'm definitely gonna order the Snes colored one. Hats off to these guys for making the best damn 3rd party controllers for the Switch
@AlbertXi @SLIGEACH_EIRE Ha! Interesting how we have very different opinions about the price difference when compared to the official pro controller.
@JHDK I don't know if I'd call $20 significantly cheaper myself but it does look like a great controller. Though I'd rather just fork over the $20 to get nfc and hd rumble. They would probably sell better at the $40 price range in my opinion.
That is a great pricepoint, will consider picking one up so I could finally have 4 controllers.
As soon as Virtual Console rears its head I will have to buy one, the joycons are too small and the pro controller just reminds me of an Xbox controller
@Joker13z I like how it is more portable (smaller) than the big N's pro. I currently keep my NES30 PRO in my Switch case and I'd like to be able to do the same with this one while adding features at the same time.
The SF30 will be the one for me.
@JHDK That is a very solid point. Much more of a slim factor and portable. Even though I'd rather use my pro controller I end up just using the detached joycons without the grip if I'm not at home and playing with the switch on my desk etc.
Oh man, I'm on it!
Does the SN30 have concave buttons, while the SF30 has convex buttons???? (Looks like it in the photos).
If so, any suggestions about which button surface is most comfortable to use?
@HeroOfTime32 I'm looking at the amazon page photos now and I THINK that's just glare on the buttons. I'm pretty sure they are the same just different colors. Could definitely be wrong but that's my take on it.
@Joker13z unless I'm mistaken, I think the concave/convex were original territorial differences. Maybe they kept it true to form for this reboot.
I owned an SNES when I was younger, but was too young to truly remember the feel.
Edit: But agreed about the Amazon photos...it's a little tough to decipher from.
@HeroOfTime32 Oh really? Well damn. You learn something new all the time. Well if I got one I'd want the Famicon style just cause I've always liked how it looked better with the color palette.
I'll be getting this one eventually. Its the only controller of theirs that I just have to have.
I hope they Fix the battery issue because it get damaged quite fast.
Also I will wait for a lower price, for 20 more I can buy a Pro Controller

@Damo
I can then sadly tell you, that the Switch doesn't fit into the 8Bitdo Xstander Clip Holder!
It's a shame, and it almost does fit, but no .
I just got my Switch two weeks ago, and tested it as soon as I could with my Xstander.
Maybe 8Bitdo will release another Xstander, that does fit the Switch?
I must have a SF30 Pro, seriously.
I already have the SFC30 and that's fantastic for retro games, but it limited by the lack of certain buttons. Even not having ZL or ZR is a blow to games like Blaster Master Zero.
@HeroOfTime32 as I recall, the Super Nintendo, at least the North American version, had two concave buttons and two convex buttons. Looking at the photos here, it looks like these have the same setup for the SN version with two of each.
Differences in comfort would be tiny, I think. I've used and still use both styles plenty and have no issues. I'd guess convex would be better if someone is very sensitive.
Looks like a Super NES controller on steroid, this is what a SNES controller would look like if Nintendo and Sony sticks to the old Super NES Play Station system like they had planned. I would say that I usually don't prefer analog sticks on a Super NES control pad but since this is from 8Bitdo which are known to make superb quality wireless controllers, I'll definitely going to check this out. I still want to see a Sega Genesis wireless controller from them though.
@frogopus @sdelfin Thanks guys. I think I'm gonna go with the NA version. My brain seems to think having two different button sensations would just help my brain recognize which is which.
Admittedly, I still have to remind myself which button is X and which button is Y on Nintendo systems. It always takes me a 1/2 second to refresh myself on that.
Oddly, I never had issues with the Triangle/Square/Circle/X configuration on Sony systems.
I found it fiddly to get the other models connected, then it stopped connecting at all. Shame because the d-pad is better than the pro controller.
In relation to the .gif file that's on the front page, which doesn't seem to be in this article of some reason, how are they getting the Switch to stand longways, upright like that? I've tried that and it doesn't seem to work with the kickstand the way it is. Strikers 1945 would be friggin' awesome this way!
Cool! I was afraid these were going to be in the 60-70 dollar range. I've been wanting an 8bitdo controller for awhile now. I'll be purchasing 2 if these!
@thesilverbrick I keep seeing this argument and I'm not sure why? Wouldn't they just release nes vc then?
I have mine pre-ordered with amazon.co.uk but now it's not listed on the site for some reason. Still on my preorders though..
My FC30 Pro from 8bitdo just does NOT work properly on the switch. Every second or two there's a delay in controls, making most games unplayable. Racing in Mario Kart? How about you lose control of what you're doing for a full second, over and over again! SOUNDS FUN, RIGHT??
I feel like they've released 50 "classic controllers". what's the difference? and why does it cost so much? and can i actually just use it with my snes?
What's that vertical shooter being played in the gif
@speedracer216 they have versions based on Famicom and NES, SNES and Super Famicom. Then they have pro versions with dual analog with Famicom and NES looks, and now these new style pro pads based on SNES and Super Famicom, but with some other design changes. But that covers most of their controller types. And, yes, you can use them on an actual SNES. You'd just have to get their wireless receiver.
@Azikira not sure if you saw, there was a firmware update for 8bitdo pads last week. I don't know if that would fix your problem, but it's worth a try if you haven't already done so.
I'm gonna get one of these for my switch but does anyone know if it can be used on a raspberry pi as well
I bought the NES30Pro off of AMAZON. I literally have used it a handful of times in 3 months. The right bumper button stopped working. The button no longer bounces back when tapped and registers input about 80% of the time.
I reached out to 8bitdo and they replied with "Due to the long distance between customers and 8Bitdo, So we required all our distributor offer after sales-services."
I'll leave it at that....
@darthstuey it looks like Strikers 1945 to me.
Rumor has it that consoletuner is going to release switch support for the Titan Two this weekend. With it you can use any controller (Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3 & PS4, PC, etc) on the switch. You can even connect a keyboard and mouse to your switch if you'd like for fps games.
Gonna buy this one for PC and sidescrollers.
@faint I imagine they figure releasing any VC now would just draw attention to the fact that they're deliberately holding back SNES games. It'd be less conspicuous to launch multiple consoles at once, like they did on Wii and Wii U.
I'll consider it when the snes virtual console is out.
I just bought the NES version of this pad and the quality is exceptional. Will definitely be getting this.
@Gs69
Yes
I will be picking up the super famicom version. I can't wait to have my switch paid off.
Is Nintendo waiting for the Virtual Console release on the Switch to officially produce those? I'd love to have a NES, SNES, N64 and GC styled classic controllers!
I have the NES and SNES joysticks, as well as the NES pro, and they are mostly great. I did notice a major lag in the NES ones, both on the mini NES and a real NES, where-as me and my wife kept dying on two different games (Metroid and Barbie NES), as we could not jump successfully and quickly, due to the existing lag. I was getting so frustrated in Metroid, I almost quit until I decided to switch to a real plug in NES controller. We switched up the joysticks to real NES joysticks, we would not longer die, it was an immediate and obvious difference.
I will say I beat Zelda NES with that same wireless NES joystick and due to the lack of jumping, I never noticed any lag playing Zelda all the way through.
So I hope the new update fixes this lag, as for challenging platform sections, the lag was quite obvious. And yes, Barbie has those, just ask my wife...LoL!!!
@AlbertXi I've had zero issue with the batteries on the snes30 and the nes30pro. These things last forever. I charge them once a week if they get lots of use. Not sure what damage you're talking about.
@WillTheLion I've heard of people having issues with the batteries. The Snes30 seemed to be the most common. Perhaps there were bad batches. I have an FC30, but never had issues. I've also heard of issues with the micro usb ports. Hopefully, 8bitdo has addressed those things along the way.
Meh, looks nice but I'm not 100% impressed with my NES30 Pro, not sure about dropping $50 on another one. It's a pain to connect it between devices, usually requires starting from scratch. Plus it's smaller than the website makes it out to be.
The NES30 Pro was a mess. Small buttons, lousy sticks... but these look fantastic!
Nice to see Strikers 1945 in TATE mode in the gif.
By the way, both Strikers 1945 and Gunbarich got updates recently.
Are these any good?
@sdelfin Oh dang, from an initial test it seems like the input lag issue is gone! I can't say with confidence it'll stay that way, but initial testing is quite positive. Thanks for the info!
I will definitely get the SF version and use it as my new PC pad to have a different pad feel than my Wii U Pro I currently use.
Are these comfortable in the hand? I mean there's a reason modern controllers do not look like this anymore.
Weird the box says Micro USB, but controller renders and Amazon description say USB C. Be upset if I get micro.
@Pupito Just be warned, all the old controllers have a Dpad issue. It makes games like Contra a Nightmare. You have to be super precise pressing a direction and careful not to press too hard, or else , for example.. pressing down too hard will make you press left or right at the same time.
So imagine trying to duck a bullet, but instead you walk forward straight into it.
This has been a major issue with everything since their very first controller.
The Amazon description of these new controllers though, gives me hopes they finally fixed the issue.
Boy, they are ugly...
I think the controllers look great myself but some people seem to have issues with them while others don't so might just stick with the old pro controller for now.
Once virtual console takes off on the Switch I might be more interested.
I really want one of these bad boys for my Switch, but does anyone know if they're compatible with iPhone's as well? I have Death Road to Canada, Wayward Souls, Transistor and one or two others that aren't currently available on Switch, so turning my phone into a seriously capable device (with the additional clip) is an attractive proposition!
I may be interested if it didn't look like a Playstation controller.
I mean, it's cheaper than the pro controller, but otherwise why would I want this? The Switch Pro Controller is outstanding! My absolute favorite controller to date! It's comfortable, responsive, excellent range and battery life. Only downside is the price.
@sdelfin it was thanks and I got it 👊
