Capcom announced that all of the Mega Man X games would be coming to Switch late last year, but stopped short of actually explaining how they would be distributed. We now confirmation that these titles will be released in two packs, thanks to Japanese publication Famitsu.
Mega Man X Legacy Collection will include Mega Man X, X2, X3 and X4, while Mega Man X Legacy Collection 2 will include Mega Man X5, X6, X7 and X8.
Bonus features will also be included, such as an art gallery and a selection of merchandise photos. There's also a mode called "X Challenge", where you can fight bosses from the entire X series of games. Finally, a screen filter will be included which smooth out the pixels on modern TVs.
Both packs will launch in Japan on July 26th.

Two seperate collections and no X9 or 10...
Edit: lmao! Alright guys... I guess that's what I get for posting at like 6:00 am. Now I'm embarassed...
Folgers theme: The best part, of waking up, is getting told there's no such thing as Megaman X9 or 10.... In your cup...
"a screen filter will be included which smooth out the pixels on modern TVs".
Who's doing this, stop it.
When do they tell us that the cartridge relese only contains the art gallery and the actual games need to be downloaded to play.
Would have been better as one pack for the nine millionth time.
@-DG X9 and X10 do not exist. Also keep in mind that X7 and X8 are 3D platformers and play completely different.
So Legacy Collection 2 is there for historically interested people, I doubt many people will buy it to play the games.
@Randomlight : After enough suckers preorder the game, I guess.
After how scummily they handled Resident Evil Revelations and the first Mega Man collection, I have no faith whatsoever in Capcom.
So you got all the great games in one collection and all the bad/mediocre games in another collection. Brilliant idea.
Hopefully this means two seperate carts with no downloads.
WHATAMIFIGHTINGFOOOOOOR?!?!?!?!?!
@KingdomHeartsFan Haven't played X8, but X6 (though very challenging and somewhat broken and unfinished) is underrated, feature-filled fun with a nice aesthetic.
I also played X7 once, unfortunately.
Brilliant tag line 😋
I'm buying both, never play the infamous X7 and I'm curious.
Of course X4 and X6 would be on different collections. Sigh, you're a crafty one Capcom.
I wonder if X3 will be based on the SNES or the PS1 version.
Both are getting physical releases for Switch/PS4 in Japan, as well as a "1+2" collection (2 discs for PS4, 1 cartridge + download code for Switch). XBO/PC is digital only in Japan. No word yet on how Capcom USA will bring the games over.
Will probably be released with just the title screen on the cart and the rest to download knowing capcom
@KingdomHeartsFan The inconsistency only began with X5 (which I also found a chore of an experience to play). X1-X3 were progressively better, and X4 had its own sort of magic.
@Expa0 If both aren't included, then I'd be happy to forget the PS1 port ever existed.
@darkswabber Two of them being 3D platformers would justify splitting the collection, as they probably take more space. But considering classic Mega Man was split as well it could also just be a case of Capcom being Capcom.
I only played the first X game, I'm guessing Collection 1 is a must have and 2 is best skipped?
Again, Capcom gets zero dollars from me until the Street Fighter collection and Mega Man 11.
If/when these go on sale, I'll try 'em.
@SmaggTheSmug not sure, from my understanding 5 and 6 are just good, nothing exceptional, 7 is a bit bad but not horrendous and 8 is mediocre. I’d say if you want to experience all of them than buy both or wait for a physical bundle, otherwise just buy collection 1.
@Gauchorino
Come on now, they should at least include the cheesy boss intro FMVs from that version.
@Deadstanley ...
...
...Getting 4 X sequels at once would be pretty amazing though, right? Right??
...I can't believe I posted that...
Yay, getting Megaman X collection 1!....they can keep the others....
I'll pass on non-X Legacy Collection because I already own all of them (except from 7) in one way or another, but I got nothing of the X saga (except from the first X on SNES Mini). I hope it comes to the Old Continent at some point, retail and all in one release (one card).
Such a weird way to split the series. X, X2, and X4 are among the best, while in the second collection only X5 is especially good, with X6 and X7 being particularly dreadful. But then, there's not really a good way to split this series.
@Expa0 Fine, as long as its butchered arranged soundtrack isn't there. It (and some of the added cutscenes, frankly) ruined the entire feel of the game.
Argh! Similar to the Classic Collections, I’ve got X1-3 on the Wii U, so is X4 worth the price of admission?!?
@Moroboshi876 >all games on one card
>one
Bro, do you even Capcom?
So if you've never played Megaman before, perhaps 1 thru 4 is the best way to go anyway?
Excellent news! Now, there's the matter of Command Mission...
I guess one collection holds the best X games while the other one holds the worst
@gaga64 Probably not, though it is worth playing. We'll have to wait and see how much extra content will be in the final product.
Physical...otherwise they can Burn! Burn to the ground!
Seriously though, I got the PS2 versions of the collection and X7 and X8, so I'm not seeing myself double dipping unless this gets a physical release or a really good discount at some point. The games aren't bad, but I've always felt that Classic 7 is better than X 1-3. I liked X4 and X5 the best.
All these comments and not ONE showed appreciation of that tagline, “X Gon Give It To Ya” this site just earned cool points for that, props to anyone who caught the reference. Lol
I have the Megaman X Anniversary Collection on Gamecube but haven't played it yet. After watching the video I'm wondering what am I waiting for, looks awesome.
If X3 isn't the SNES version there will be no purchase from me.
@Mach_Rider BURN! BURN! BURN!
Despite X7 being the worst game, I still will be buying both collections, mainly because while I like the first 4, my favorite game is X6, and the soundtrack for the X5-X8 is awesome.
Honestly, I never thought X7 and X8 were as bad as people made them out to be. I liked them enough to play through them. But marnelljm does bring up a good point...I hope X3 will be the PS1 version.
Already have too many games so this one will have to wait. Besides, I don't like what CAPCOM is doing with non-X legacy collection, the games not being all on a cart and EU people not getting a proper retail release.
Good solution. X1 - X4 are the games I really wanted anyway, so I'll just grab the first set.
@-DG
What are you talking about ? If it is getting popular then they might develop Rockman X9. Oh brother.
@Ralizah
No, get them both and we will have an opportunity for Capcom to develop Rockman X9.
@RetroGamerAndrew
Light up! Those are going to be cheap.. Maybe 29.99 or 39.99. Get it and they might develop X9.
I have so many games that I want but I am getting it too. Light up!
@marnelljm
Wow, you complaint. Want X3 SNES ? Get cart instead. We dont know if it is PS1 or SNES ported. Either way, get it so that they can develop Rockman X9.
@Cartune Me! And I'm happy I found your comment, else I would've commented the exact same thing (more or less)!
I don't care if I buy either the American or the Japanese version I'm still buying this collection here.
I'm old enough to remember when Capcom packaged these games into one collection instead of two.
Dude... why in “two packs”...?!
Why can’t we just have them all on one cart or pack?! I immediately think of me not wanting to switch between things.
That being said... you just let me know when I can click or tap PREORDER.
....you got me, Capcom. You got me....
I'll pick up at least the first of the X series since I haven't played any of them. If I get around to beating all of them then maybe the next set of games. I picked up the original legacy collection on 3ds when I owned one. Though I loved those games growing up I got bored of them pretty quickly second time around. I won't be getting those again. Nostalgia is nice but not necessary.
If I owned the original hardware, I might get the original releases. I just hooked up my Cube last week, so I might look into getting the X Collection.
I already own the Classic entries(, including & Bass), just scattered between my Wii, & WU VC d/ls. The same applies to the 3 X titles.
While it's rather an inconvenience of small size, It'd be nice to have them all on one cart, or d/l. But, for me, just owning them would be nice. I can deal with them not all being together. I will say, though, there is almost no reasonable reason for the games being split, except to make money.
Edit: Photos of Mega Man t-shirt, & merchandise, as opposed to special offers to own said merchandise... Why would I like to view photos of the merchandise?! That's so stupid...
Neat! I'll be buying both of these, as I've only ever played X and X4.
Money confirmed to leave my wallet as soon as this launches or is up for preorder.
I bet you the sales of the first collection will dwarf the second collection lmao.
@sillygostly
blame N for using high priced small size media.
N needs to give those dumb carts away if they want a retail presence or for the shenanigans to end.
but i guess they can't give up that .001% of revenue. short sighted and greedy is N's motto.
@Dr_Corndog
I agree that X6 is the worst. But X7 and X8 I thoroughly enjoyed. Always felt X7 got too much hate.
@Pazuzu666 New TVs weren't meant to scale old pixels
Excited to play X7 again, I love that game. It was one of my first games I ever got to play, but could never beat (until years later when I replayed it). I wonder if they made any changes to X7 and X8?
I am going to wait for a 1+2 collection, I don't want to but sepreately.
Great, I think I'll stick to X-X4. Loved X1 on mobile, I'm sure I'll enjoy the older games.
The later X games range from mediocre to downright terrible so it's no loss, I am looking forward to replaying the early X games though
Continuing the tradition of releasing new compilations with less content than the PS2/GC versions, eh Capcom?
More expensive obviously buying two collections. But Capcom at least put the good ones on one instead of doing a random selection on one the rest on the other. I could be wrong but the Rockman collection seems to be one collection with some games being digital. I might get both probably gonna end up just getting Legacy 1
As always, the 2D/sprites have held up rather well, the 3D/polygons not so much imho. The former looks retro - which ... to each their own, right? - but the latter just appears very dated, no matter how you look at it.
US trailer is up on Nintendo youtube.
@AlphaElite I agree no reason that when you can fit pretty much x1-x6 on a single gamecube disc (1.5 gb discs), though not sure how big x7 & x8 would have been from PS2 could be potentially larger to make up for some of that space. Just feels like another money grab, but we are talking about capcom and they've been nickeling and diming us on megaman for so many years. I'd rather see a new X game personally as I think the style of the X games were so much better than the originals, or better yet do a new iteration of megaman that is what x was to 16 bit era for modernizing megaman at the time more than the original.
I'm getting these games, of course, but I'm a little bothered by the fact that with both Mega Man Legacy Collection and Mega Man X Legacy Collection, the smaller portions(1) of the collection are on a physical game card, and the larger portions(2) will be a download-only option. I would love for this to be reversed, to be honest, because both MMLC2 and MMXLC2 have the potential to eat up a ton hard drive/SD Card space.
Will most likely be buying both collections on the switch. Not too bothered by the whole half physical/half digital setup. Glad we finally have a date!
@KingdomHeartsFan X6 is awful and X7 is a crime against existence.
Never really played X8, but that one seemed to try to go back to basics. There's a dumb armor break mechanic that slows down the flow though.
Also wow this site is running insanely slow on my phone today.
im dying to play megaman X7 and X8 on the go!!!
It kinda annoys me that they didn't just put all 8 together but I'll probably end up buying both. I finally have a chance to play X8
Kinda worried about legacy collection 2. At least the first collection has all the good games but x7 is pretty bad
@mikegamer pixels weren't meant to be smeared in vasaline.
So they're saying its another half n half. Sigh
Oh Capcom,you make me love you while you infuriate me all at once.
Nice, this will help ease the pain of not having the VC on Switch yet.
Glorious! Utterly glorious!
I think I'll get the PS4 version, though, since...well, most of my time with the MMX games were on Playstation systems. Plus, I'll get it all on one disc, which is more convenient for me.
@Randomlight winning comment.
Also, I'd like to add that NintendoLife does an excellent job on their article sub-headers. I routinely LOL when I see them.
@Don yet? I think it's a foregone conclusion at this point.
Only way VC hits Switch is via a day 1 rollout coinciding with the paid service.
@Pazuzu666 Then don't use the filter, it's optional facepalm
Finally! For completions sake, I get to play X7 and X8 (that only took 3 Nintendo hardware generations of waiting...). Bad or not, they're the only games keeping me from completing the main series timeline of MM-MMX-MMZ-MMZX. Physical release...?
Collection 1 for the great games, Collection 2 for the great memes. Also, I assume X3 will be the SNES version. I have a MMX Collection on PS2 and X3 is a PC or PS1 port with much worse music. When will Inti Creates make Mega Man X9?
It's one thing to release 2 separate collections, but to release them at the same exact time? I suppose expecting anything else was futile. I'll still get both collections, though, since I've never played X7 or X8 and having X4-6 in a more convenient place would be neat.
@MegaStoneSmash91 Capcom knows people will buy Mega Man, and they want that $$$.
@mikegamer Being optional doesn't change how terrible it is. It's an inexpensive and lazy excuse for not (minimally) remastering the games. Capcom is well known for exploiting their fans in such ways like this.
@MegaStoneSmash91 Underrated comment.
@Turbo857 To be fair, I haven't played X7 myself. I was going off its reputation.
Also, obligatory BURNTOTHEGROUND BURNTOTHEGROUND BURNTOTHEGROUND!
Confirmed?? it was confirmed three months ago.
@Gauchorino I know, man, but dreaming is free of charge.
@CapitanFalcon Mind your language!
As I said over at PS, bit of a shame they couldn't fit all of this in one package. I might get this on Switch or PS4, depends on how performance stacks up, mainly worried about X7 and X8.
(Going to type this in normal caps, because there's a rule here about shouting in Caps Lock, so I'll keep my voice down...)
burn.
burn.
burn to the ground.
burn to the ground.
fry for me, woo woo.
@Dr_Corndog
I actually have a friend that hates the game and when it's ever brought up, he references that same exact line, lol!
Bring PUBG to Switch Please
the nintendo switch is becoming a godsend like the legendary N64, glad to see Nintendo revitalized like this, the era of the wii and wii u was a nightmare
@KayFiOS Flame Hyenard my old friend
@Gauchorino It's so stupid, Mega Man X1 through X6 fit on a single Gamecube disc.
@marnelljm Good news!
https://realotakugamer.com/mega-man-x-legacy-collection-to-include-snes-version-of-mega-man-x3
@mikegamer 2 SNES games + 5 PS1 games + extras. They could've just re-released that, and it would still be a better buy than this.
@Rockman55 YES. I'm bummed at no Command.
Complete side note, but while we're recalling bad Capcom bundles...Mega Man Zero's collection was pretty solid!
