Re: Talking Point: One Month On, How Did Nintendo's Switch 2 Launch Go?

RasandeRose

I'm very happy with the hardware. I'm not even missing the Oled-display as much as I thought I would, the LCD on Switch 2 is really a great one. Plus I love the new joy-cons and the Pro controller 2 is close to perfect. The only complaint I have hardware-wise is the battery-life. I would've wanted at least the same battery life as OG Switch had.

Game-wise, I'm overall happy there too.
Mariokart World is just great, and the third party-titles runs very well too. But I do think it's time for a big Direct now. We need more games, first and foremost more third-party games, for the autumn and winter.

Re: Switch 2 Dock Supports VRR After All, But It Doesn't Actually Work With Console

RasandeRose

@Porco

It's just how services like youtube and twitter works, they make the negativity explode. Switch 2 has pretty much the same drawbacks as Switch 1, just with more performance. Switch 2 won't flop in the sale figures the coming years because Nintendo banns pirates, not supporting vrr in docked mode, or having a slow screen that nobody notices while gaming anyway.

Re: "One Of The Slowest Modern LCDs I've Ever Seen" - Digital Foundry's John Linneman On Switch 2's Display

@hammers1man

Switch 2 is heavy as it is, the big weight of todays handhelds also makes them less usable as handhelds. And adding almost 150g to an already very heavy console as Switch 2 isn't worth the extra battery life. I'm disappointed too with Switch 2:s battery life, but making it even more discomfort by adding even more weight wouldn't be a good thing. They need to develop better batteries that are more durable and gives higher load without adding weight. Too bad the evolution of batteries haven't come that far since he days of OG Switch.

According to the Welcome Tour, one of the reasons they made it bigger than the Switch Oled was because of the thermals, and ofc. they needed a more room for the bigger battery too. So maybe they tought it would be a bit weird to make the console much bigger but then not use the bigger estate, so they filled it with a bigger screen. Otherwise, if they put in a 7-inch display Switch 2 would have just as big bazels around the screen as OG Switch,

Other than that, I agree. It would be great if the battery technology was a bit more well developed by now, so we could have a 40Wh battery in Switch 2 without the battery having to be a huge and heavy brick that brings the consoles weight to over 700-800g.

I think Switch 2 is already big and heavy as it is. I definitivt wouldn't want an even bigger handheld. I mean, a device like Steam Deck feels just aweful in my hands, it's just as bulky as the Wii U Gamepad, but 3 times as heavy. I think with Switch 2, they could've reduced the screen size quite a bit. And reduced the overall performance. I mean, Cyberpunk2077 does play and looks very nice on it, but it wouldn't hurt if they had it at a lower resolution with somewhat simplified textures etc. if that could bring up the battery life to a more reasonable level.

RasandeRose

@hammers1man

It's a general problem among powerful handhelds today, the battery-tech just haven't kept up with the technological evolution of the handheld's performance, screen sizes etc. I mean, all the mayor powerful handheld's today have terrible battery-life of 1-4 hours. One could argue that today's handhelds in reality can't really handle the performance they've got, nor the huge screens.

@TromboneGamer

He is if he thinks Nintendo hide the console to make som sort of cover-up about it's screen, it's just embarrasing to write a comment speculating like that 🤣

Yeah, ofc. DF can demonstrate weaknesses with the tools they use, but it doesn't really affect real-life gaming. The fact that almost no one even noticed it before the DF video says it all.

Re: "One Of The Slowest Modern LCDs I've Ever Seen" - Digital Foundry's John Linneman On Switch 2's Display

@jsty3105

Yes, but I wrote there was zero complaints about the screen being slow. There's been plenty of complaint about it being an LCD, even before the console was released, there's been complaints about it's contrast levels, it's brightness levels, it's HDR-effect etc. But there was no complaints about ghosting and it being slow, those complaints are magically coming up just now, after DF measured it. I simple don't think a majority will notice it, I know I don't.

Re: "One Of The Slowest Modern LCDs I've Ever Seen" - Digital Foundry's John Linneman On Switch 2's Display

RasandeRose

I think most won't notice it while playing anyway. I mean, literally no one complained about the screen's respons before DF measured it in their review. I myself never noticed any problems with it, I play almost half the time handheld with my Switch 2 and I'm even starting to get used to the weaker blacks now, not even missing oled anymore as I'm geting so into how big and sharp the screen is.

@DaftSkunk

You know, you're answering your own question right there, that's the last generation. A bigger Oled with 1080p resolution and 120Hz would obviously be much more expansive than a 720p60hz Oled, plus the Switch 2 is a more expansive device in other ways; bigger battery, higher density memory etc.

Re: Digital Foundry Is "Happy" With Switch 2 But Feels The Screen Is "Problematic"

RasandeRose

@hammers1man

The Rog Ally (and X) supports HDR10 with their display, yes. You just don't know it as you think it would be comparable to HDR on a TV, which it's not as the Rog, just like the Switch 2, lacks dimming zones and has a peak brightness that matches the Switch 2. You will however notice the hdr in particular scenes in the games as it, just like the Switch 2, support hdr standard with a wider amount of colors and more details in bright and light scenes.

The quality of the display on Rog Ally and Switch 2 are comparable, about the same. The Rog has slightly more even brightness as it doesn't use edge-lit, but otherwise they're the same.

Re: Digital Foundry Is "Happy" With Switch 2 But Feels The Screen Is "Problematic"

RasandeRose

@user0

It does actually meet the "bare minimum" of HDR10 as it's from 400 nits, wich Switch 2 screen can produce. Switch 2 screen actually are of the same standard as the Rog Ally, which also supports HDR at 470 nits vs. Switch 2 at 440 nits. It just doesnt give such a dramatic peak brightness as an HDR TV can produce. It just cant do that for hours of playtime with a battery.

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Final Tech Specs Have Been Confirmed

RasandeRose

I just wished that developers had the choice to disable gamechat in their games, to get a bit more of those reserved specs. All Nintendo games can support gamechat, but I don't need it as some sort of phone-service that I can use to chat any time. I see it's clear value in multiplayer games like Mario Kart, Fortnite, Splatoon etc. But I see no realistic scenario were I would want to chatt while playing a game like Cyberpunk.

I think Nintendo should've tuned down Game Chat a bit and just had it as a pure in-game chat service while playing the same game, not as some general-social-media-gaming-thing were friends chat while playing all sort of different games. That's what phones are for. Native chat on a gaming console should only be for in game-chat in multiplayer sessions.

Re: "Don't Let Nintendo Ruin The Entire Industry" - Is $80 For Mario Kart World A Bridge Too Far?

RasandeRose

I'm fine with 79.99 for Mariokart (not paying that as though as I'm buying the bundle).
It looks like so much bigger of a game than the older entries of the series, and it will probably end up being one of those games I play for the entire console generation.

79.99 will probably be a new "normal price" for games on Nintendo, Playstation and XBox. It'll just take some time to get used to it, just as I'm still not used to paying 14.99 for one package of coffee that lasts for a week...

Re: Former Rockstar Dev Throws Shade At Mario Kart World, Says New GTA Will Be Worth The Price

RasandeRose

Realism isn't an equal for a good game. It actually partly made Rockstar's RDR2 such a boring game in my opinion. And no, the amount of details didn't save it from being boring.

That said, if there is two games that cant be compared, it must be GTA and Mariokart. In my point of view, Mariokart will be more fun to play, as Rockstar began to lose it's quality of sandbox games years ago.

Re: Limited Run's Atlus Switch 2 Collector's Edition Is A 'Game-Key Card' Release

RasandeRose

@LoneWolfSones

Nah, can't really blame Nintendo. So many third parties choosed code in a box with Switch too, despite many sized of cartridges. As long there is a cheap out-option, many publishers are gonna choose it. Don't be so bitter, if you wanna play the games on Switch 2, you buy them for Switch 2.

Many of the thord party releases on Switch would need the 64GB cartridge anyways, and they're still going for Key Cards.
