Re: Feature: Best Nintendo DS Games

RadioShadow

I think people forget the two Zelda DS games used the stylus to control link, and not many people enjoyed that control system. Not surprised it didn't make the list.

Now Super Princess Peach not making the list is such a shame. I can only guess people don't like the emotions mechanic, or Peach isn't taken seriously. I need to go back and play this.

I played Metoes once and had no idea what I was meant to do. It must have some fans if it made the top 50. Personally Panel De Pon / Planet Puzzle League is the much better puzzle game. It fact, why didn't Polarium get any love?

@Jayofmaya
The Phoenix Wright series is really good on the DS. I'm not the biggest fan of point and click games, but the presentation, music, and clever writing make for a very good "visual novel" game. So it's not too surprising they have made the list, but I can understand this "game" isn't what a lot of people would want to play. It's more like playing through a movie, but you control where to go. Without spoiling the game too much, I think the second one has the better cases, while the 3rd one had better characters.

@Aerona
I have played Style Savvy, and honestly couldn't get into it. At least they put effort into the game. Although I do find it funny the developers use to make wrestling games (including Ultimate Muscle: Legends VS. New Generation on the GameCube), and now only make fashion games. Thanks Nintendo. XD

Re: Of Course Pokémon Sword And Shield Is Getting Review-Bombed

RadioShadow

Again, MetaCritic is a pile of * Mario growing noise *. It's fine if you want to get an idea what people think, but if I want to see how good the game is, I would check out a few actual reviews that go into detail.

At the end of the day, the only review I trust is my own. Imagine if I decided not to play Sonic Heroes because GamesMasters (UK Magazine) gave it 50/100, because they played the terrible PS2 version.

Re: Random: Here's Why You Should Never Use Google Translate To Localise Your Game

RadioShadow

@TryToBeHopeful
Because WayForward is an American company. English has always been the official language for their games. I know during Shantae 1/2 Genie Hero kickstarter , the French, Spanish, German, and Italian translations were outsourced to a translation group. From what I have read, the translations are pretty bad. The Spanish translation refers to Shantae as male.

But yeah, this is clearly an example where the translators are not getting the context of the text, which of course results in bad translation.

Re: Random: Don't Worry, Nintendo Switch's 'X' Button Is Still Called 'X'

RadioShadow

Keep in mind that in Japan:
O = Confirm / Correct
X = Cancel / Confirm

When designing the PlayStation Controller, they used shapes instead of letters: https://theuijunkie.com/playstation-button-shapes-meaning/

Usually in the west, we would use a Tick or a Cross, while in Japan, it's a Circle or a Cross. Point Blank on the PS1 uses a Circle (Correct) and Cross (Wrong).

If you want to refer the O / X as a letter instead of a shape, cool.

@AlphaElite

  • Usually Japanese PlayStation games / the BIOS use O to Confirm and X to Cancel.
  • Usually Western PlayStation games / the BIOS use X to Confirm and O to Cancel.

Western games that get translated into Japanese usually have the buttons swapped, or give the user the option to use X or O.

Re: The Physical Version Of Spyro Reignited Trilogy On Switch Will Require A Sizable Download

RadioShadow

I already have it on the Xbox One, but if Switch is the only option, definitely give the Spyro Trilogy ago.

Basing the information on the Steam page ( https://store.steampowered.com/app/996580/Spyro_Reignited_Trilogy/), it claims it's 40GB in size. So they have used the maximum Switch cartridge of 32GB, and the rest (8GB) you have to download.

I didn't actually realize this trilogy supported 14 languages, and that includes audio. I bet a good chunk of the voice files is making the game so big.

Re: Random: Amazingly, Grandia HD's Translation Gaffe Is Only The Second Funniest German Localisation Mistake

RadioShadow

@Nagi
I find it more funny that the translator didn't realize they were words that you use when you hit or miss a target. That's why context is important. I've only heard of the word Fräulein where the German Prosecutor from Ace Attorney 4 uses it all the time.

A funny error I know is from the US version of Advance Wars 2, where Flak says "Bombers are Indirects", despite there being no air units that are indirects. It does suit his stupidity know. It was sadly fixed in the Europe version.

I've heard a lot of people complain about the translations for Shantae: Half-Genie Hero. Apparently in the Spanish translation, Shantae is mentioned as being male. Kind of embarrassing since she is the main character. From seeing some Japanese screenshots, names were written using English letters instead of Katakana.

Re: Crash Team Racing Will Soon Allow Players To Buy Wumpa Coins With Real Money

RadioShadow

Just to remind everyone that when the next update comes out, you can unlock 5 characters, 3 character skins, 2 karts, and 1 course FOR FREE, let the Micro transactions to buy Wampa Coins are OPTIONAL TO BUY. Bunch of complainers, the lot of ya!

It's not a deal breaker to me, and the only reason Activision have done this is because they know people will use this method because they are two impatient to unlock them the free way. My advise; don't use this method.

I'm looking forward to trying the new course out. Can't wait to play as the Baby T-Rex!

@Nagi
Shame the Single Player content in MK8D is very vanilla. Grand Prix and Time Trials can easily become boring. CTR:NF has much better modes like the Time Relics being one, as you have to smash the crates to freeze the time, and getting all them takes 10 seconds off your time.

@SMW
The awards that you earn by getting Nitro Fuel during the Grand Prix (like Tawna, Motor-racer Crunch, etc.) will be available to purchase in the Pit Stop at a later date.

As for the Pit Stop GP Items (like Megumi, Isabella, Flag Stickers, Twilight Tyres etc.), these should still be available when it shows up.

The Championship Kart and the Theme Decals I presume can only be unlocked by being in the 5% during a GP.

Re: Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD Launches On Switch In October

RadioShadow

The only issue I see is the Wii version of Super Monkey Ball (2006) is very cheap to pick up (like under £5 second hand). Can't really see myself paying full price.

I actually liked this Wii game. The Motion Controls work really well, the Boss Battles were an interesting idea, and the music was fantastic. It's by Cash Cash, who did the music for Jet Set Radio and Sonic Rush 1 & 2.

I wonder if the Switch version will have the option to use Motion Controls?

Re: Feature: The Legacy Of Nintendo 64's Transfer Pak

RadioShadow

The Transfer Pak was such an amazing device. It's just a shame it didn't get used much.

I got mine when I bought Pokémon Stadium 1, and later on Pokémon Stadium 2. Seeing the Pokémon that I have raised on the Gameboy in 3D was amazing! Plus playing the Gameboy game on the TV was mind blowing (although the loading times were slow).

Does anyone remember Mystery Gift for Gold, Silver and Crystal? Using the Infrareds on the GameBoy, you both recieve a random gift (done once per day, per person). Pokémon Stadium 2 had the option to Mystey Gift with a girl, which was a great way to try and get some good gifts.

@TenEighty
I didn't think about using a S-Video to VGA. Thanks for the tip.

Re: Feature: The 50 Best Game Boy Games - Zelda, Pokémon, Metroid, Mario And More

RadioShadow

I think people only voted DuckTales because they like the NES version. They most likely have never played the GB version, because when I played it, it had slowdown and some terrible sound effects.

Now Solar Striker is a good space shooter on the Gameboy. It was made by Nintendo themselves.

Donkey Kong on the Gameboy was also brilliant. Put so many hours into the puzzle type game.

Re: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy Switch eShop Listing Reveals April Release

RadioShadow

@Kiz3000
That is odd. It was there when I was looking to pre-order the Final Fantasy game. I would advise you contact Play-Asia.

I would say just go with the "Economy Registered Airmail" option (£7). Just beware it will take around 20 days. There maybe a chance you will get taxed, but this didn't happen when I ordered Puyo Puyo Tetris. Usually ordering 1 small item, you should be fine.
