Re: Random: Tell Us Who You Love In This Official Pokémon Poll For Valentine's Day

RadioShadow

So in Japan, females give the males chocolate. Although a month later, they have to return the favor. https://favy-jp.com/topics/1706

I guess from the female selection, Flannery. She's pretty hot for a fire trainer!
My actual pick would be Olivia, because insert a joke about rocks and making me hard. XD
Or maybe Mallow, because she can spice up my life!

I'm board of the puns now. Back to playing Pokémon Sun.

Re: Piranha Plant Was Silently Nerfed In Day One Smash Ultimate Update

RadioShadow

@Charlie_Girl
You need to stop presuming plants are female. They are hermaphrodite (each flower of each individual has both male and female structures).

In cases when something has both genders/unknown, the following can be used (well in English anyway):

** Their actual name, in this case Piranha Plant
** He/His
** It/Its
** They/Their
I'm curious what the the game uses, but the Smash Ultimate wiki uses "It". https://www.ssbwiki.com/Piranha_Plant_(SSBU)

He is also acceptable if the gender is unknown/has both. The gender for Nights from the Sega series is unknown, but Sonic Riders does refer to the character as "he".

The point is, using "he" isn't used to discriminate any females, and I'm sure that is not what the author was trying to do.

Now can we please just go back to talking about how amazing Piranha Plant is in Smash?

EDIT: SSBU does use They/Their/It when talking about the Piranha Plant.

Re: Dead Or Alive Xtreme 3: Scarlet Won’t Be Released In Europe Or North America

RadioShadow

@SegaBlueSky
That is true, they most likely felt this game won't sell (which I find hard to believe). Even if the publisher does agree to sell it in the USA/Europe/Oceania, they still have to go through the required Video Game Rating companies where they can prevent the game from being sold.

There have been cases where ACB (Australia) refresed to rate Mortal Kombat X, and USK (Germany) refresued to rate Gal*Gun 2, let PEGI (UK / Europe) had no problem at all with the sexual themes. Germany should just use PEGI.

Re: Dead Or Alive Xtreme 3: Scarlet Won’t Be Released In Europe Or North America

RadioShadow

So just to confirm, Mortal Kombat, a game where you get ro ripe someone's spine out is perfectly fine, but a game where women get to wear swimwear and play volleyball is not? What the heck?

It's not like the ESRB / PEGI Ratings don't have a icon that mentions if a game has sexual themes, so if that's not your cup of tea, then don't buy the game.

Oh well, there's always the import option. Although the Dead or Alive Xtreme Series have never been that great to beging with.

Re: Gain Ground And Puyo Puyo Join The Sega AGES Line-Up On Switch Next Month

RadioShadow

Some people may not realise that Puyo Puyo is a very popular series in Japan, so it's not that surprising that Sega would get M2 to release the Arcade versions of Puyo 1 & 2.

The first release is interesting since the sequel (as you expect) is the better version. One reason to maybe get this one is the "Exercise Mod" which just allows you to practice on your own (think how the original Tetris did it). For some reason the sequel admits this. [EDIT: This sentence is incorrect, Puyo Puyo for the Aracde only had VS Modes].

The Arcade version also only used to rotate the beans... I mean puyos to the right. Ports of the game modified this to rotate left or right, and it does look like this version is going to have this option.

The cut-scenes for the 1st one are much better. The characters are animated and have speech bubbles. The second removes this with standard text (although some ports like the SNES version go back to using the first style). Interestingly there is an English release of Puyo Puyo, so I am hoping they will include that as an option.

There is a bug in the first version where if the other controller holds right or left while a CPU is in play, the CPU can't move/rotate the puyos. This bug still exists in the Mega Drive Port and Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, but a V1.1 version of the arcade version fixes this bug. Hopefully this is fixed in Puyo 1.

Of course, playing online is going to be interesting, providing you can easily find people (although the Japanese love this series, so that might not be an issue). Puyo Puyo Tetris / Puyo Puyo eSports make you use the counter "Tsu" system, so it will be fun to play without that rule.

Looking forward to buying both!

Re: Feature: Reader's Choice Game Of The Year 2018 Results

RadioShadow

No love for Sushi Striker? It was better than the 3DS port of Luigi's Mansion. When playing Lugi's Mansion on the 3DS, I just had the urge to play the GameCube version (and they didn't include the PAL Hidden Mansion, lazy bums...).

Don't get me wrong, Smash Bros. Ultimate is amazing, but I feel there are other games that truly shine.

@sketchturner
Now I want to play some Comix Zone! I will have to download "Marble It Up!". Sounds like a classic.

@zocker-hias
I'm waiting for a discount on "Bloodstained Curse of the Moon", but I have heard good things about it. Maybe one to play in October.

Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct Announced For 1st November

RadioShadow

Let the predictions begin!

The Rumor List:

Shadow the Hedgehog - Yes: Same with Isabelle, assist trophy has gone and she became playable. Very obvious choice.

Banjo-Kazooie - No: I doubt Microsoft would allow this (I don't care what Rare have said, that is false).

Isaac - Yes: An interesting choice. Golden Sun was a great game.

Ken Masters - No: He would be better as a model & voice swap (like Wii Fit).

Mach Rider - No: Seems very obscure to be playable. Maybe an Assist Trophy.

Geno - No: The developers are aware people want him in. I think he'll just be an assist trophy.

The Chorus Kids: Maybe: Not what I would have gone with, but their have been stranger characters like Game & Watch and Duck Hunt.

Grinch: I have a better chance of meeting Jesus in a bar. This won't happen. WHY IS HE ON THE RUMOR LIST?

My Picks:

Blaze the Cat (Sonic Rush): She would be the perfect echo character. Plays like Sonic but with fire elements (kind of like Roy).

Lip (Panel De Pon): Her flower wand is a weapon in the game. Just make her playable!

Rayman: The relationship Ubisoft have with Nintendo and a trophy being in the Wii U/3DS version, Rayman being playable would be amazing!

Shantae: Like Shovel Knight, she'll most likely just be an assist trophy. Same as the whipping action like Earthworm Jim and has the ability to transform would be cool.

Crash Bandicoot and Spyro: I don't think Activision would allow this. Maybe as assist trophies. These two would be awesome to play as!

Waluigi (Mario Tennis): Wah is he not playable? WAH!

Andy (Advance Wars): There are too many Fire Emblem characters. Andy can easily fix that situation!

Mallow (Super Mario RPG): He's a fricking cloud! He maybe puffy, but he will blow you away.

Jody Summer (F-ZERO X): This would be a stretch and F-ZERO is as dead in the waters, but another F-ZERO character couldn't hurt. I hear her slaps are painful!

Re: The Sega Mega Drive Turns 30 Today

RadioShadow

Such an awesome console! Being like 1 month older than the console, I didn't get round to playing on the Mega Drive until 1995/1996. I did own a Model 1 and the games I had were pretty good, playing on a good old CRT. I may have been late, but it meant I got to play the good later releases (the early releases were more arcade ports).

Games I do remember playing:

** Comix Zone
** Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
** Sonic 1, 2, 3
** Sonic & Knuckles (lock-on technology was awesome)
** Quackshot starting Donald Duck
** Sonic 3D: Flickies' Island
** Micro Machines 2 (4 player due to using 2 controller ports on the cartridge)
** Zombies Ate My Neighbors
** Castlevania staring Mickey Mouse
** TMNT: Hyperstone Heist

Sorry SNES, but the Mega Drive will always be number 1 to me.

Re: Soapbox: Why I'm Not Excited About Playing NES Games On The Nintendo Switch

RadioShadow

I just wish they would give us SNES or Mega Drive games instead. Heck, the Master System would have been a better choice.

From the launch list, this is how I feel:

** Soccer (no)
** Tennis (Mario Tennis spits on this)
** Donkey Kong (alright, but just play the Arcade release)
** Mario Bros. (nothing that great)
** Super Mario Bros. (classic, can't really complain)
** Balloon Fight (this game is awesome)
** Ice Climber (terrible controls)
** Dr. Mario (where's Puyo Puyo?)
** The Legend of Zelda (never liked this game)
** Super Mario Bros. 3 (one of the greatest NES games)
** Pro Wrestling (...)
** Excitebike (decent enough racer)
** Yoshi's Cookies (Yoshi!)
** Ice Hockey (sports game, go away)
** Baseball (come on...)
** Double Dragon (no 2 player mode)
** River City Ransom (this game was fun)
** Ghosts’n Goblins (good port, but tough as nails)
** Tecmo Bowl (AAAARRRRRRGGGGGGGGG!)
** Gradius (there are better shooters)

Also, where is Super Mario Bros. 2? That's like the best one!
