Rémi Gazel, the composer for Ubisoft's original Rayman game, has passed away after an ongoing battle with cancer. His wife shared this information on social media and said the funeral would take place at the end of this month.
Gazel was described on his website as a "self-taught musician" who was "passionate about digital technologies and the endless opportunities" they could offer. He was "ever-evolving" as an artist and his own "personal journey" allowed him to experiment in multiple creative fields ranging from music, digital art, video making to web design.
From everyone here at Nintendo Life, we extend our deepest sympathies to Mr Gazel's family, friends, and co-workers.

That's really a shame, my condolences to the family
Cancer is horrifying in how it can strike anyone.
Cancer is the illness of the century. My condolences to his wife.
Thank you for your music. RIP
The original rayman had one of the best soundtracks ever, incredibly sad news, rip Remi Gazel.
Aww I had the music world theme stuck in my head for hours last week..
RIP hard.
Band Land (High Notes) is one of my "calm songs" so to speak, so this guy's work has impacted me in a lot of positive ways. I hope the best for his friends and family
It is my displeasure to say I have little experience with the original Rayman game and, by extension, his work. While I didn't know of him, I am nonetheless saddened by his family's loss, and I have every intention of finally listening to his soundtrack now, if it may serve as even the smallest honor to his legacy.
Cancer is often such a horrible way to die. I watched it take my father and it was a truly horrible thing. It's a slow, insidious creeping death... Condolences to his family.
Sorry to hear that. condolences to his family and friends.
@Wavey84 Once you are at the point honestly I don't think a little sugar makes much of a difference... I remember my father struggling even more because they wouldn't let him eat many of his favorite foods anymore. It's like throwing salt in the wound...
What I found most messed up was the cocktail of medicine he was on at the end. They'd give him a medicine which caused side effects, for which they gave him different medicines which caused more side effects, just different ones. Then they would give him more... Once he passed and we had to clean out the medicine cabinet we had something like 2 boxes of medications to take to the pharmacy and dispose of. And those were just the medicines from before the hospital, lord knows how much poison he was taking at the end. I've always blamed that for his final passing, rather than the cancer itself.
@Wavey84 Im really so sorry for your loss.
And Im also sorry the world we live in is ignorant enough to belive that the government and all they own is good.
Their health system is a lie created for profits and dumbing us down. Same for wars, educational system, media...
But history repeats. We learn nothing. Its really sad. Especially this generation of fools.
R.I.P. a legend that will not be forgotten.
@Wavey84 selfhealing is the key when you deal stuff like this. Learn to take reiki and other healing power that you do have. Just be aware of it and your body needs a huge boost. A chemo isn't really the key for this. The body needs also to be strong and a chemo weakens your body. You have many many alternative ways. So don't be depended only on doctors mouth. They tell you what they've been taught in their school. For people who can think for themself will do their research. Such a pitty that many companies mute the people who do have the cure. They want people to be completely depended on them and get their money. That's how it people. I have a message for you... WAKE UP!
What a great composer. You will be missed Mr. Gazel, thank you for the music.
@Heavyarms55 I am sorry to hear that. I can't imagine to see a loved one in that much pain. My condolences to you, and I wish you strength, friend.

Rest In Peace Remi
I remember his work on OG Rayman, sure. Better than the annoying trash used to soundtrack the newer games to say the very least of it. RIP
Rest in piece, Mr. Gazel.
I was diagnosed B-cell lymphomas which are types of lymphoma affecting B cells. Lymphomas are blood cancers" in the lymph nodes. They develop more frequently in older adults and in immunocompromised individuals. I remember being on my knees praying, “God, I will fight as hard as I can if you just let me get through this chemo stuff.” When I went in, Dr. Noy said, “I have something that’s going to help. I’m going to give you Procrit after you get your chemo.” Once I got the Procrit, I never felt again like I had after that first chemo treatment. I got tired and I didn’t feel 100 percent, but I was really okay. My cancer became very real to me once I lost my hair. But by then the mystery, the uncertainty, was sort of gone. Not gone, but it just wasn’t at the forefront. There were things that I started looking forward to doing, like going out and not just staying in the house. By then, the weather had started getting really nice, and I decided I needed to get out. I would go for a long walk or take the subway into the city and look in the store windows. It’s funny, people I didn’t know would chat with me on the bus, on the train. We would talk about anything. That made me feel a lot better. It come a day when i was told by a lady to try and do some research on the internet for help maybe there will be a cure to my Cancer. I google for treatment for cancer and I saw some testimony about the herbal specialist called Dr. SANI and the great work of his Herbal Medicines. With the hope I have in God I believe this to be the end of my problem for I have prayed for a solution from God. I contact Dr. SANI with the giving email and also click on his website to see his work. I finally believed in him and told him about my problem. He prepared some Herbal medicines and which I was advice to take for three weeks, There are lot to say about Dr. Sani, I Thank God that this man was used to end my sorrows. All my pains and sorrows turn to joy and history from the day I came in contact with Dr. SANI, Who really help with his herbal medicines, I WAS TOLD HE IS A HERBAL SPECIALIST AND HE CAN BE OF HELP, I gave him a try and it really work out for me, today here I'm cured of B-cell lymphomas. If you need any help from him, you can contact him via: ([email protected] ) OR Call/WhatsApp: +2348118184266
Rest well brother Rémi, May your energy live on through your music
As long as I live, I won't forget your wonderful melodies. Band Land theme has been one of my favourites since I was 6 years old.
The original Rayman soundtrack in like the best soundtrack in a video game ever.
