You've dominated as the Piranha Plant in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, now take to the court as Fire Piranha Plant in Mario Tennis Aces. Yes, that's right - the pesky Mario enemy that shoots fireballs in multiple directions will join Camelot's tennis game next month.
As you can see in the video above, Fire Piranha Plant is a complete natural on the court, holding a racquet in its mouth and returning shots with relative ease. Its special shot is also the perfect way to finish an opponent. Interestingly, this is the second playable Piranha Plant to be added to the game, right behind Petey Piranha.
If you want to play as Fire Piranha Plant, all you have to do is participate in next month's tournament. Otherwise you'll have to wait until July to unlock the character.
Are you looking forward to trying out Fire Piranha Plant in Mario Tennis Aces? Tell us below.

These plants are getting around! Perhaps it is the potting soil used?
It's a fire piranha plant since his sister is in Smash.
Can I play online with friends in this game or is this a no go like MM2?
I wish we can use Mii with their proper outfits rather than any Random Mario game characters.
Well at the same time i got Bomberman Battles PS2 with Tennis game inside and proper rules to play, so......
I enjoy Tennis from Bomberman Battles than from Mario Tennis Aces. 😉
Nice! I can’t wait to try them out!
When you try your best to be smash ultimate, but still wanna be unique. I wonder if Fire Joker will be the next character.
Awesome! Game is so much fun. More characters the better.
Still waiting for a discount.
Return of the Plant Gang
I think we just found the next fighterpass character.
I can’t tell if this is a stroke of creative genius or just scraping the bottom of the barrel.
Awesome. I really love that is a different Piranha Plant and not just the same one from SSBU.
I love that this game wont die!
@nessisonett We’ve haven’t reached the bottom of this barrel until after Funky Kong becomes a playable character, after that this game’s roster will be perfect.
Did anyone expect any more DLC for this game? I thought we were done.
@Galarian_Lassie we won't really be scraping the bottom of the barrel until we have Metal Baby Dry Funky Kong as a playable character. When we can play tennis as a metal skeletal baby version of a sunglasses wearing gorilla, then abrasive force will in truth have been applied to the surface of the round wooden storage device located closest to the surface of the planet.
@link3710
I expect Mii at least become playable characters like on 3DS version.
@Anti-Matter I think it's too late for Mii characters, which is kindof sad. It was fun with games using the Mii characters on the WiiU. But for some odd reason Nintendo just put less of a focus on them on the Switch. They are just around in WiiU ports there were in like Mario Kart 8, and they are only in new games if they are sequles to WiiU games like Ultimate and Mario Maker 2. Miis are such a fun concept and idk why Nintendo just shoved them away on the Switch.
Nintendo are literally on fire with these free character updates!
I know Nintendo has done some odd choices for playable enemies but this is certainly something. As if a normal Piranha Plant in Smash wasn't enough, now we have a different variant of it in Mario Tennis. I have no problem with this whatsoever (just no Pink Gold Peach though)
@Dodger oh my god, I never knew I wanted a Metal Baby Dry Funky Kong but now I don’t know how I could ever live without him.
No wait, Pink Metal Baby Dry Funky KongETTE...
They should add non-Mario characters to this like what they did with MarioKart 8.
I wish they put this much effort in Mario Party
@sixrings
You can not play ANY game online with friends on the Switch. Not even ONE SINGLE GAME! That's why everyone is so upset.☹️
This game is still an unplayable mess with next to no content, isn't it? So why bother and still add new things to it?
@Franklin thought it was just me. Played the demo, left me with a strong feeling "meh + shoulder shrug".
@MrBlacky It has never been an "unplayable mess" just light on content. The game recieved many updates adding plenty of characters and even game modes. It's in a good state right now
It's a brilliant game.. Colours of koopa troopa coming too.. I really think yellow & blue Toad's would be better choices
That's all well an good except the hanger is still£50 on eshop , needs to be£30
In my opinion, at this point in time, this game should be about $20...It's nice enough to play but like Tetris 99, not exactly worth paying a lot of money for. And the price tag just means that so many people who would've given this a go will not, and so there aren't many people online which (mostly) defeats the whole point of the added characters. I tried out the demo which came out recently and the length of time it took to find people to play online made it clear to me that i would regret it if I bought it for $60. A common sense thing to do would've been to at least have a huge sale right after that demo to get a lot of people to pick it up but Nintendo often has other ideas.
@MrBlacky No, it has NOTHING to do with what it used to be when it was released... Now it an AWESOME game, a nearly perfect tennis arcade everyone should try.
@the_beaver
I was just messing around.😉
I didn't buy the game when it was released but I decided to give it a try after they started including more content and I don't regret it. I'm still having a lot of fun with it!
They should include Glydon from Mario Odyssey.
@gaga64
What about CAT pink metal dry baby funky kongette?!
Vicious circle at the moment. Tried the demo and couldn't find anyone online, decided not to buy the game, so that's one less potential player online.
I would if it were cheaper, but Nintendo is being bloody minded.
@link3710 A year of support so it looks like this and Dry Bowser is the end.
My guess is they keep working on characters which they are going to reuse for soccer or golf.
I’m sad to say I traded this in the end. I love earlier entries in the series but something felt off and I couldn’t bring myself back to it. Even with the free updates.
My family is still liking the game. It is a good switch from Mario Kart. I'll admit I was disappointed with the single player campaign, but as a multiplayer in our house--the game has longevity.
I've gone back to this game again recently and ot's a lot of fun. I wasn't sure if they were still going to be releasing more free DLC characters after this month, but there are still some slots empty on the Character Select screen.
As someone mentioned, it does sometimes take a while to find an online game which is disappointing. But overall it's a satisfying arcade tennis game!
Gotta make way for dry bowser!
This game needs:
What's next, Ice Piranha Plant for Mario Kart? Might as well, right?
Dry bowser is the last dlc in July. Was hoping for cat bowser
I can’t do these tournaments anymore. It seems like every match is against someone spamming drops and lobs. It’s just not fun, nor is it tennis. I can wait until July.
@bimmy-lee I just log on and then sit there while someone beats my motionless character. It's really rather pointless that they put these characters behind these silly walls.
@sixrings - I just want a good tennis match, which is why I almost always play local multiplayer. In my experience, online has been chock full of cheesy players. I don’t care about wins and losses, just playing good, competitive tennis matches. Everyone who owns the game gets new characters regardless of tournament participation. If you’re going to do it, why not try?
