Not long after December release of Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom, publisher FDG Entertainment said the number of copies sold on Switch was eight times the amount of combined sales on other platforms.
In an attempt to boost sales on Nintendo's hybrid device even more, it appears the publisher is releasing a demo for the game in the near future. This information stems from an FDG tweet, asking fans to fill in the blanks in the below image:
Some responses hoped the Monster Boy figurine was an amiibo tease, but according to the publisher, it's handmade and only one exists. If you haven't already played this recent release, take a look at the trailer below:
Would you be interested in a demo for this game or did you pick it up on release? Tell us down below.

I would've certainly liked a demo. I bough the game, for a very inflated price too, and hated it.
Looks fun, would like to play the demo once released. Definitely my kind of game to play after a long day.
Good for those who haven't bought it yet but trust my words when I say this game is just that damn good.
Could be dino? 😛
Waiting for the eventual $19 sale.
@Agramonte IMO that's about what it's worth. It's a lot of fun but doesn't have enough content to be worth the current price.
I’d recommend that any platformer/metroidvania fan at least tried out the demo. I 100% completed it over Christmas (with a tiny bit of help from wikis) and it was amazing. Some of the puzzles and platforming challenges around 70% of the way in can be very difficult, but it’s a really fun game, with great music and animation.
@EvrgrnCmln I guess it’s different for everyone. I paid at least $45 (can’t remember the exact number) and I definitely found it to be worth the money. After collecting everything I got about 35 hours out of it, which is about how long I got out of Odyssey, and it was a ton of fun.
@Mr_Mythtery I paid $60 since I'm in Australia and got a similar 30 hours, but as I largely game to kill time, anything $2 for an hour of play isn't really a worthwhile trade off.
I'll try a demo!
I've heard so many wonderful things about this game that I'll be happy to try it out, especially since the pricetag seems a bit excessive on face value. Maybe that will change when I actually go hands-on with the game!
@EvrgrnCmln Oh, I’m from Australia too, I just converted it roughly to U.S. currency because that seems to be the most common currency to use when talking price.
Yeah, that’s fair I guess, it does sound pretty expensive when you put it like that haha. Did you get it digitally or physically? I collect physical games (I don’t collect whole console libraries or anything, just the ones that interest me - I’ve got around 35 physical Switch games currently) and the awesome looking case, with the interior artwork and instruction booklet made it feel more worth the price, and I can understand why it would seem a bit expensive for people who bought it physically or just don’t place as much importance on that stuff.
@Mr_Mythtery I bought it digitally but wish I'd waited - ended up having to have a trip to Canada two weeks later and kept seeing it physically in stores for less than what I paid!
I accidently preordered the game on PS4. I now sold my PS4 copy and have ordered a Switch copy. Looking forward to jumping back in and playing handheld!
@EvrgrnCmln Yeah, it’s weird how often the physical copies seem to drop in price much faster and get sales more often than the digital ones. The only games I ever download digitally are eshop exclusives, I don’t take the Switch on the go enough for switching cartridges to be a hassle.
That’s awesome that you got to go to Canada though, it looks like it’s got a lot of great scenery. That’s a country I’d like to visit someday, partially to see where Schitt’s Creek and Heartland are filmed.
It’s a great game and to anybody scoffing at the price, it’s about twice as long as the similar games that cost half as much
Edit: Although I hear there’s quite a bit of content in Hollow Knight, maybe that one spoiled us
Hopefully they don’t put the Pig segments in the demo as they had me hating the game originally once I got away from the Pig I highly enjoyed the game.
My GOTY (tied with Dead Cells). But I’m not sure the first hour or so would make that point across via a demo.
@Mr_Mythtery I actually lived in the city where Heartland was filmed for 10 years - nearly everyone I met had been an extra on the show.
I will try it. I enjoyed the remaster (but have not been amazed by it) but the price of this one is way too steep (in comparison with Celeste and hollow knight that are by far better games than this and for less than half the price)
I think it should be obligatory for eshop game's with no physical release to have a demo.
@EvrgrnCmln That’s awesome! Could you see many horses around there? Did you see any of the main cast?
@zool This does have a physical though?
Let's release a demo AFTER the game gets released. Bravo!
Now that I've finished the Spyro Reignited Trilogy, I can play this game this week! YAY!
@Mr_Mythtery
The US-NTSC version got a physical Switch / PS4: https://www.365games.co.uk/nintendo-switch-games/monster-boy-and-the-cursed-kingdom-launch-edition-nintendo-switch-game--
It's cool to see more games getting demos on the Switch, and dumb that this wasn't a thing for a long time, mainly because Nintendo decided demos weren't a good idea at some point for some stupid reason. Thank God that view has changed in recent times.
It’s good, but Wonderboy in Monster World for the Mega Drive is still the best game in the series... That’s the one with the ocarina, FYI.
@Weezy Monster Boy has an ocarina too Have you played it?
@Balta666 I'm looking forward to hear back about your opinion regarding the price when you actually played it .
It's not a demo it needs - least in PAL regions. It's either either a physical copy or price reduction. Im almost entirely digital on Switch except when game size is (roughly) bigger than 2gb OR physical and digital pricing is same.
@Future777 Haven’t gotten that far, i’m currently doing the frog bit. But I still think
Monster World has more charm
A price cut would help me better !
@RadioShadow Haha thanks, I actually meant that as a confused “but it does have a physical release” but I probably worded it confusingly.
@Weezy Keep playing, you're not even half-way through. ^^
Cool. Haven't bought it, but I'd love to see how playing the game feels.
Really excited when this game was announced and released but at $40 I'm not pulling the trigger. Anything $30 or below I'm ok with and really can't wait to play it.
I missed the whole boat on Wonder/Monster Boy when they were in their primes (despite me being an Adventure Island type of guy lol), so I never really got to love them. But who knows? That could change with a demo, and I look forward to it.
@Future777 I will but I have to say the gameplay has to be way better than the remaster and 2-3 as long to justify that price...
@Balta666 You'd be surprised. Monster Boy is 5 times longer..^^
Oh, I definitely need to check this out.
I love the game. Great game. But after I beat it I had no desire to replay it.
Great! I've really wanted a demo for this since I've been on the fence about buying it.
Also that picture of Amiibo like figure make that and sales will follow along as well too.
Got a physical copy from the US.
One of my favourite games on Switch.
Looking forward to playing the game eventually.
I've just got too many good games already waiting.
I loved the other Monster Boy on Switch.
@Balta666 Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap is a graphics and music overhaul of a Master System game, with the basic gameplay kept the same as it was in 1989. Monster Boy is a brand new game built from scratch by a completely different studio. It may be a spiritual sequel, or tribute, to the old Wonder Boy games, but it is still a modern game with 20ish hours of content (compared to the 5 or so hours it takes to complete Dragon's Trap).
Nice! Been on the fence about this game. Always wondered why more games don’t have demos
@BionicDodo that is something I was not aware. I though both were done by the same studio
Just buy the game. Its so darn good!
@Balta666
I don’t blame you for the confusion. Annnd they’re both French.
I prefer the art style and instumentation of the score on Lizard Cube’s remake. Cursed Kingdom, meanwhile, is Dragon’s Trap on steroids. It’s easily a 30 hr game, if that matters.
It’s basically the much friendlier Hollow Knight. They’re both “metroidvania” action oriented exploration/adventure/rpg games that require back tracking via powerups. They both require about 30 hours to beat. Monster Boy doesn’t have the neverending amount of mega-difficult bosses, additional 40-50+ hours of non-mandatory content, Dark Souls death/re-spawn mechanism, nor the limited checkpoints.
It would be reasonable to sell Hollow Knight for $60, so I don’t think it’s quite fair to make price comparisons. And while I’m selling Monster Boy as less difficult, it is difficult in it’s own way.
