I thought we're into this? Games like Stardew Valley, Undertale, Fez, etc. are all games inspired by other popular games by mainstreams devs and everyone licks their ballz. Why is this different all of a sudden?
Edit: LOL, rewatched the trailer. Maybe they still stole some of Nintendo's programming with this one. I DEFINITELY saw Ganondorfs spike, Fox's Up Smash, Marth's F and D airs, and Shiek's F-air. Like, frame for frame.
These kind of butthurt rants always baffle me. It would be awesome to see Nintendo open up more and provide robust developer tools and support (no region lock is a good first step), but what does that have to do with Iwata's passing? Or his success? Does this guy just completely forget the Wii, DS, and 3DS? You know, those things that printed money.
I get it, Nintendo does need to get with the times in a lot of respects, but everyone seems to constantly ignore the amazing games (better than any Oddworld, imo) that they are STILL making, and the fact that Nintendo inspired a vast majority of the super hip indie and smaller developer titles.
I understand why some devs can be distressed because it makes it harder to port games to a system with less power. On that same note though, PS4 and Xbox One are holding PC development back because they are "gimped" by comparison.

Well, if you have a high-end PC it actually outclasses anything PS4 will ever achieve in terms of graphics.
I've been a fan of all brands over the years: owned a PS1/2, Xbox 360, etc. And they all have their good exlusives, but nothing seems quite as efficient as PC+Nintendo for my personal tastes.
I love that Devs are realizing PC's potential as well. I got rid of my PS1 because all the games I was keeping it for have since been released on Steam where you can use mods and don't have to use the PS controller (which I can't stand).

And I can't stop laughing at people who want fewer characters because of balance. Around a 1/4 of the melee cast if viable in top 8 at tournaments and usually you see less than that. Smash 4 isn't much better...but with 3X the characters. So if devs can't figure balance out, I'd rather have more characters than fewer.

Sure, some people will be disappointed with this game, but others will love it (not everyone loves the grindy options of Awakening of and Sacred Stones for example, but others love it because they can get all the interactions and use any character with ease). Sure, playing games in 4K is great and you could always buy the game and system so the devs don't lose any money...but this is the internet, people will take things for free every chance they can get. Splatoon was creative and complex in a sense (turning into a squid brought a lot of tactics/fun) but it really boiled down to 80%+ of people online choosing a fast-firing gun and camping...so yeah...tons of complexity there.
I'm more hopeful for ARMS after playing the Splatoon 2 Testfire. Splatoon will be more of the same (not a bad thing), but I was getting tired of the gold/zapper/etc. camping that dominated Splatoon in it's later years (and in the early moments of the new game). I'm going to enjoy the early days of ARMS before everyone figures out the cheeziest characters and tactics that people already have down in Splatoon.
Don't get me wrong. Cheeze isn't cheating or anything (it's fair game), I just always lose interest when everyone starts using the same characters/weapons/tactics in a game.

eye roll Of course. When Nintendo said they were going to charge for online I should have known this would happen. Though, to be fair, not every game with a season pass has solely money-grabbing DLC. Both Witcher 3 and Mario Kart 8 had great DLC add-ons. That said, pack 3 sounds very promising for BotW...unfortunately the first two packs sound like blatant cash grabs and stuff that should be added for free.
I'm kind of the opposite. I don't think it's THAT expensive. Especially considering the tech that goes into it (HD Rumble, etc.). I HATE having to pay for online though. I know it won't be that expensive, but I hated it for Xbox Live and PSN and love that PC gaming is still free. At least it's region free now though, which is actually pretty cool.
Disgaea games are always littered with easter eggs and references to old games but the actual story of each game is stand-alone so you can easily jump in at any point (Only the original Disgaea and Disgaea D2 actually continue with the same characters/story).
I still prefer Fire Emblem to Disgaea due to the latter relying more on grinding than strategy, but both are great SRPG series.
Most people probably missed out. I didn't play them until after Xenoblade Chronicles (found out what other games the devs made after likeing Gears, Saga, and Blade) and had to pay a bit extra for origins, which I could see deterring even more people. Here's hoping they show up on the Switcth VC and get another chance at fame. Besides some unfortunate anime cliches these games are fantastic.
I'm actually disappointed they aren't killing the 3DS. I figured it was a good opportunity to get all the great games on one device. I understand why they don't want to kill it, but I think it might end up killing the Switch in the long run if they keep going the cheap-development route like they did this gen and leaving far to many dry spells for their home console.

No thanks. I love the idea of gaming communities gaming for fun (whether competetive or not) but esports are trying way too hard to become bloated and entitled like regular sports, which just ruins the fun for me.

And most people volunteer in lieu of giving money (most of which just goes to pay employees of non-profit companies anyway. They act like it's altruistic, but watch them get angry when you offer something besides money like food, or time, etc. or get even angrier when you ask how the money actually being allocated).

Yeah, I've always thought that. Certain games achieve a hipster following that bloats the importance and quality all while flaming and shaming anyone who thinks differently. (Earthbound, Undertale, Majora's Mask, Five Nights at Freddy's, and most recently Stardew Valley just to name a few).
I'll admit I enjoyed Earthbound and I understand everyone has different opinions, but 10/10? With an extremely vanilla turn-based battle system, lackluster character development, and awful menus and customization? It's like people shut of their critical mind because they're drunk on nostaglia and community hype.
Geno is like Shadow the Hedgehog and Pinnochio had a baby...not something I was into. I'm glad Sakurai didn't get his wish on this one...though to be fair I'd rather have an original character like Geno then clones like Dark Pit or annoyingly overused franchise fan fodder like Ryu or Cloud.

It's a great series if you like pseudo on-rails shooters like Star Fox or Kid Icarus: Uprising. The Wii sequel "Star Successor" is one of the best on-rails shooters I've ever played.

I'm a Nintendo fanboy and I agree Nintendo's sales are usually pretty bad compared to stuff like Steam. I don't count PSN or Xbox Live much higher on my list though because they hold you hostage first with subscription fees.
I thought it was a fair choice. I know it's ficiton/animation so the originals didn't bother me, but I can understand the idea that hyper conservative parents seeing a 13-year old in a bikini and immediately make a media frenzy out of it that's put Nintendo (with their label plastered all over the game) in hot water. They were trying to avoid a fire storm and made a choice based on the numbers. There are way more people who'd be extremely upset by having it in, rather than those who were upset that it got censored. And seeing that the gameplay and story don't change at all because of it...I'm OK with that. Bust size censorship was dumb though. I know you'll get a bunch of immature wankers, but what about female gamers trying to get an avatar that looks like them?
Some of Lin's censorships were just hilarious though. Like they were trying SOOOOOO hard to cover any skin below the neck. I was surprised when one set of armor showed her belly button

GameXplain did a good Q&A series (like an hour of answering questions!) about this game and a lot the questions from fans had similar concerns about the complexity of the game. Apparently a lot of it is easier to learn in game (though watching this videos and reading the manual helps) and some aspects can be somewhat overlooked for people who are overwhelmed at first (such as armor skill slots, etc.).
It's also possible this game is too overwhelming for people who'd rather just have a more casual experience. Customizaiton in JRPGs have dropped off significantly in order to streamline the process for more relaxed fans and Xenoblade Chronicles X is making no notions of hand holding like Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, etc. Even the survival vids are insulting our intelligence! Haha.

eye roll Of course. When Nintendo said they were going to charge for online I should have known this would happen. Though, to be fair, not every game with a season pass has solely money-grabbing DLC. Both Witcher 3 and Mario Kart 8 had great DLC add-ons. That said, pack 3 sounds very promising for BotW...unfortunately the first two packs sound like blatant cash grabs and stuff that should be added for free.

I'm kind of the opposite. I don't think it's THAT expensive. Especially considering the tech that goes into it (HD Rumble, etc.). I HATE having to pay for online though. I know it won't be that expensive, but I hated it for Xbox Live and PSN and love that PC gaming is still free. At least it's region free now though, which is actually pretty cool.

Disgaea games are always littered with easter eggs and references to old games but the actual story of each game is stand-alone so you can easily jump in at any point (Only the original Disgaea and Disgaea D2 actually continue with the same characters/story).
I still prefer Fire Emblem to Disgaea due to the latter relying more on grinding than strategy, but both are great SRPG series.

Most people probably missed out. I didn't play them until after Xenoblade Chronicles (found out what other games the devs made after likeing Gears, Saga, and Blade) and had to pay a bit extra for origins, which I could see deterring even more people. Here's hoping they show up on the Switcth VC and get another chance at fame. Besides some unfortunate anime cliches these games are fantastic.

I'm actually disappointed they aren't killing the 3DS. I figured it was a good opportunity to get all the great games on one device. I understand why they don't want to kill it, but I think it might end up killing the Switch in the long run if they keep going the cheap-development route like they did this gen and leaving far to many dry spells for their home console.

That kind of thinking is silly. It'd be like saying a corrupt person is good as long as they give to charity every once and a while.
And most people volunteer in lieu of giving money (most of which just goes to pay employees of non-profit companies anyway. They act like it's altruistic, but watch them get angry when you offer something besides money like food, or time, etc. or get even angrier when you ask how the money actually being allocated).
I agree Nintendo comes down a little too hard on some of these people, but I really don't feel THAT sympathetic to people who whine and cry about getting paid to play video games and scream into a microphone.

Yeah, I've always thought that. Certain games achieve a hipster following that bloats the importance and quality all while flaming and shaming anyone who thinks differently. (Earthbound, Undertale, Majora's Mask, Five Nights at Freddy's, and most recently Stardew Valley just to name a few).
I'll admit I enjoyed Earthbound and I understand everyone has different opinions, but 10/10? With an extremely vanilla turn-based battle system, lackluster character development, and awful menus and customization? It's like people shut of their critical mind because they're drunk on nostaglia and community hype.

Surprised how much butthurt piracy apologists I'm seeing here. I highly doubt 99% of people supporting dolphin dumped their own bios into the emulator, which is the ONLY way it's legal (along with a legal copy of the game...which usually does not include fan based mods--though it can with dev support...which is not Nintendo) I'm tired of people who are like: fan project was better I'm cool because I can steal when I don't like a product I'm smarter than people who actually support IPs they like My tongue went numb trolling people online so it's just hanging out now .

It's a great series if you like pseudo on-rails shooters like Star Fox or Kid Icarus: Uprising. The Wii sequel "Star Successor" is one of the best on-rails shooters I've ever played.

I thought it was a fair choice. I know it's ficiton/animation so the originals didn't bother me, but I can understand the idea that hyper conservative parents seeing a 13-year old in a bikini and immediately make a media frenzy out of it that's put Nintendo (with their label plastered all over the game) in hot water. They were trying to avoid a fire storm and made a choice based on the numbers. There are way more people who'd be extremely upset by having it in, rather than those who were upset that it got censored. And seeing that the gameplay and story don't change at all because of it...I'm OK with that. Bust size censorship was dumb though. I know you'll get a bunch of immature wankers, but what about female gamers trying to get an avatar that looks like them?
Some of Lin's censorships were just hilarious though. Like they were trying SOOOOOO hard to cover any skin below the neck. I was surprised when one set of armor showed her belly button

GameXplain did a good Q&A series (like an hour of answering questions!) about this game and a lot the questions from fans had similar concerns about the complexity of the game. Apparently a lot of it is easier to learn in game (though watching this videos and reading the manual helps) and some aspects can be somewhat overlooked for people who are overwhelmed at first (such as armor skill slots, etc.).
It's also possible this game is too overwhelming for people who'd rather just have a more casual experience. Customizaiton in JRPGs have dropped off significantly in order to streamline the process for more relaxed fans and Xenoblade Chronicles X is making no notions of hand holding like Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, etc. Even the survival vids are insulting our intelligence! Haha.
