Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Kirby Air Riders

Quantaur

Metro gave Age of Imprisonment and Kirby the equivalent of a 4 out of 10.... but gave the mortal kombat collection and VAMPIRE: THE MASQUERADE - BLOODLINES 2 AN 8 out of 10!
That's really all anyone needs to know of their terrible review system, lol

Re: Chances Are You've Never Heard Of Nightdive Studio's Latest Switch Rerelease

Quantaur

This is an amazing short story and game! For those who haven't, please read the original short story! It is quintessential sci-fi, the original author even voices AM, the evil AI, in the game (maybe a little too well, lol) as well as contributing to the writing and script.

It is incredibly dark though, as AM exploits each character by exposing them to their biggest fatal flaws and fears for its own entertainment (one characters reason for fearing the color yellow and enclosed spaces for example). But it is the kind of hard writing, ideas and thinking that feels like we rarely see in media now.

Re: Feature: Nintendo Life eShop Selects (February 2025)

Guns of Fury!

Basically Metal Slug as a Metroidvania. It doesn't revolutionize the genre or do anything special, but I've been having a lot of fun with it and it's got a good price!

and Urban Myth Dissolution Center!

A fun adventure game similar to Phoenix Wright with a great pixel art style, though might be a little slow paced for some.

These two were up there with Momodora for me this month. Surprised these two weren't given a mention, lol

Re: Opinion: Nightdive Studios Had Its Best, Most Prolific Year Yet In 2024

Quantaur

All excellent remasters by them, especially Doom 1&2, Dark Forces and Killing Time.

I really need to give a shout out to Killing Time, not sure how it played originally (the death sound of the bats I swear is the same monkey shriek used for the squirrels in Deadly Premonition!) but I had an amazing time with it! Very much an adventure FPS with some System Shock vibe to the exploring, though obviously not as complex otherwise. Definitely recommend people check it out!

Re: Prince Of Persia: The Lost Crown Dev Team Reportedly Disbanded By Ubisoft

@N8tiveT3ch
Don't blame yourself too much. I happened upon a physical copy for only 20$ soon after its release, so they discounted it pretty deep rather quickly. I haven't played through the entire game yet, but I can safely say I believe it's the one shining moment for Ubisoft this year as far as games go. Right now I would say it would make it on a list of the best games I've played released this year, as far as gameplay and fun go. It's a shame it didn't do better, it deserved more attention than ubi's other games

Re: Zelda: TOTK And Mario Wonder Land GOTY Nominations At The Game Awards 2023

Quantaur

@nessisonett
Really? Not saying that sarcastically, just honestly surprised. I would expect it to be between TOTK and BG3 as they were the highest rated and most talked about from what I've seen. I've heard next to nothing about Alan Wake 2 beyond seeing it getting a good score (87 I think? Last I checked?) on metacritic. You think it's one of those that critics hype up more than the communities?

Re: It's "More Difficult Than Ever" To Collaborate With Nintendo, Claims Picross Developer Jupiter

Quantaur

@AtlanteanMan
The seal of quality argument is so ridiculous. Nintendo Life themselves did an article on it back in 2019 that pointed out that the 'seal of quality' meant "Basically, the seal is simply an assurance that the item you're looking at won't destroy your console, rather than an indication that the game itself is of high enough quality."

Anytime someone wants to argue that the "Seal of Quality days are long gone", I just look back and think of all the LJN games that carried that 'seal of quality'

Re: Poll: Final Fantasy IV - Do You Prefer The Original Or The DS Remake?

Quantaur

This is one of those polls that I feel should have the option of liking both equally. I grew up with the SNES original, and it definitely left an impression on me even after all these years, especially the translations, music, story, and gameplay. Experiencing the remake on DS with the fully animated intro, the voice acting, and redone graphics was an absolute treat, and I recommend it highly to anyone who enjoyed the original. Each has its strengths and weaknesses, and everyone will prefer one over the other, but I personally love each experience equally.

Re: Miyamoto Thinks Mario Movie's Critical Reception Contributed To The "Buzz"

Quantaur

Given how ridiculous some of the bad criticisms I've seen have been, such as calling the movie offensive, having too many jumpscares or the drybones too scary for kids, is it any wonder people are no longer put much stock into critic reviews?
If anyone wants a laugh, check out out the videos on youtube going over some of the worst takes on the Mario movie, they're really rather funny

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Prince Of Persia

Quantaur

I remember renting this as a little kid, and even at that very young age, thinking how.... off the box art looked.
I wondered if it was showing him falling to his death on those red triangled spikes!

Re: Site News: So, Where's Our Sonic Frontiers Review?

Quantaur

Looks like it's trending around 7/10, which is about what I was predicting. I have too many other games I want to get through first to worry about picking it up now, but maybe sometime down the line. If anything, maybe sonic team is finally heading in a good, or at least better, direction. (which given some of their history, shouldn't be too hard)

Re: Nintendo Rules Out Any Price Increase On The Switch In Japan... For Now

Quantaur

I was surprised to see talk of increased prices on the ps5 the other day, I guess it's only logical that Nintendo and Microsoft have those questions raised as well.
The place where I work depends on certain chips for our product to work, and the skyrocketing cost of those parts has forced us to increase the price quite a bit just to break even, so it's not unrealistic to wonder about price increases

Re: Lord Of The Rings: Gollum Has Been Delayed On All Platforms

Quantaur

I think this is why we're starting to see several games not get announced until just a few months before their release (depending on how big the legacy for the game is of course). Anticipation can help build the hype for a game, but too many delays can easily kill it as well. And if the game isn't phenomenal at that point, interest seems to quickly fade, even if the game is good.
I can't say I have much interest in this title as it is. A linear, stealth focused game playing as Gollum doesn't really appeal to me, and from my experience, it takes a talented team to keep these type of games from quickly becoming tedious. But as always, I definitely hope it pays off for the developers putting in all the hard work!

Re: Round Up: Here's What Critics And Fans Think Of The Resident Evil Netflix Series

Quantaur

A comment I saw on one of the youtube videos about this series probably sums it up best: "My theory is they wrote an entirely new show but then realized that nobody would watch it so they called it Resident Evil and called a few characters and places names from the games, but didn’t change anything to make it look or feel closer to the games. They clearly were not making a Resident Evil TV show."

Also, are we surprised ign gave it a good review? They seem to be the go to place when bad entertainment needs someone to schill for them

Re: Video: Bandai Namco Releases New Commercial For Digimon Survive

@HenHiro
I'm curious where you got the 20+ million copies of Elden Ring sold. I absolutely loved the game, one of my favorites of the year so far, but the last report I saw had it at 13.4 million copies sold and that was 2 or 3 weeks ago. I hope it goes strong for awhile to come, and possibly surpasses that 20 million copies mark, but I do feel it hurts it to inflate the numbers, even on a simple message board.
