@Steel76 I fully agree. The show this year feels like it's becoming much too similar to their movie awards counterparts: Celebrities very few really care about, long stretches of boredom while we wait for the stuff we want to see, and something VERY few people actually liked or cared about winning big
Strange. Never noticed anything different for the virtual console games on Wii U, though to be fair I mainly play them on tv (yes, I still have a Wii U, lol)
@LEGEND_MARIOID To be fair, Commandos 2 HD and Empire of Sin aren't exactly scoring well on any system from what I'm seeing so far. The PS4 version of Commandos 2 has 3 scores so far that I could find, two 5 out of 10's and a 3.5 out of 10, also stating its a poor console port there as well. The PC version on metacritic is slightly better with an average score of 60 out of 100 right now, though the user reviews currently rank it at 2.3 out of 10 with a lot of complaints about how buggy it is. I honestly feel this and Empire of Sin were pushed out way too early and needed more polishing and QA testing, but I'm guessing they wanted to have it out for the holiday season.
"Let's remaster this game, but do it poorly, and change the unique, cel-shaded comic book style of the original so that it looks more like Fortnite! Because that's popular right now, and it will TOTALLY attract younger gamers!" - some executive, probably
I honestly keep forgetting they're launching new systems right away. Just a few other things happening this year that keep taking my attention away from such things I guess, lol
I must have tried the Control cloud version just before everyone else did, I was able to start a session right away and didn't have to wait.
I noticed a couple frame drops while playing, but the responsiveness was top notch for me. This was on wifi at home with a 25 Mbps speed. If it performs as well as it did for me, and improves, I think it will be a viable option for those with no other way of playing.
I currently have Control on PC, so I won't be doing the Cloud option with it. But if they provided any sort of rental option for other games (5-10$ for a week, something like that) I'd definitely look into it.
Wow! I own an original copy of this game and have the newer release from Nightdive on Steam, but for that price I think I'll pick it up on Switch as well. For anyone wondering, this game is Doom with a full story and rpg elements. It CAN be confusing at times on where to go and what you need to do (sort of Metroidvania in that sense, you need an item to proceed one place, but also plenty of dead ends) I've always looked at it as a hidden gem from the time. Much like the original System Shock.
I don't know if this makes sense, but for me, 9 is probably the "best" of the series in terms of polish, but 6 is my all time favorite, mainly because of great characters, story, villains, music and gameplay.
It's really interesting to see people defend this streamers blatant thievery of someone else's licensed IP's for her own personal profit in these comments.
@FragRed I don't know how long it's been since you've seen one, but I would highly, HIGHLY recommend his Earthbound review. It's a long one, about 40 minutes, but you can tell the game left an impact on him, and it has some great callbacks to his previous episodes. He does knock it down a couple notches with fair criticism of some of the mechanics, but when he ends a review gushing over the game he's reviewing and not drowning himself in Rolling Rock, you know it's something special.
Honestly? I think these are both pretty good covers for the game. If there was an option to vote for a tie on covers I would have chosen that, but since there isn't, I went with the NA/EU version
@Kalmaro Honestly? After playing it for... (checks Switch) just over 10 hours; The first few runs were fun and I felt confident in the purchase, but the more I play, the more abilities, weapons, etc. I unlock, the more I get addicted to it. I highly recommend it, gameplay is great and the story and characters are a lot of fun as well, especially if you know Greek mythology.
I will say I did run into one problem; I put my switch in sleep mode to do something else real quick and the system downloaded the update for it. I chose to continue playing and everything was fine until I cleared the next room and the game crashed, then automatically applied the update.
Fortunately, the game saves progress each time you enter a new room, so I was able to pick up right where I left off, and I attribute the crash to the strange circumstances surrounding when the update came.
Other than that, it's performed absolutely flawlessly.
@carlos82 The sales award confused me too, as Animal Crossing has outsold Pokemon Sword and Shield. I went to their website and found this:
"The "Best Sales Award" will be presented for the best-selling title sold in Japan during the specified period."
I couldn't find what specific period they were referring to, but Animal Crossing must have surpassed Pokemon after the cut off date. At least that's most logical conclusion I can come up with.
@nessisonett I would say that's a pretty good assessment. Though I kind of hate to admit I did enjoy 2 somewhat in the "so bad it's... sorta good?" kind of way. It's a divisive game to be sure. Interestingly, Running With Scissors has pretty much completely disowned 3, even going so far as to making a DLC expansion for Postal 2 saying 3 was nothing more than a bad fever dream or something. There's a video here that goes into more detail for anyone interested https://youtu.be/WJnivzm-WjA
I find it weird not to like a game everyone harps on as being so good like tlou2. I found the first game insufferably boring to play, and the sequel hasn't done anything to change my mind on it. I'm more in agreement with Moistcr1tikal/penguinz0 take on it.
This isn't saying I hope the game fails, I just never found the gameplay interesting or fun and that's the most important factor in any game for me. It was the same boring encounter from room to room.
@TheFullAndy
I know I may be in the minority, but for me, the last of us was a massive disappointment.
Just be sure, I really liked the story, the characters, the idea that you may be the biggest villain in the end, they did a fantastic job on the graphics, and it was awesome to see my hometown as one of the levels in the game.
That being said, the gameplay is the most important part of gaming for me, and I grew insanely bored with it very fast. I won't go into detail about my issues with it, suffice to say I played through about 2 chapters, returned it, and watched the rest of the story on youtube.
That being said, I know for a fact there are certain games I adore that are not as good or even terrible (I LOVE Deadly Premonition! I don't care what anyone says! In fact I... will probably agree with most of the criticism!), but no matter how good everything else in a game is, if I don't enjoy playing it I'm not going to waste time on it.
Ugh, there's several here that I want, but I need to save up for jULY TO GET Paper Mario and, what will 𝓞𝓑𝓥𝓘𝓞𝓤𝓢𝓛𝓨 be the true 'Game of the Year', Deadly Premonition 2!
@BlackKnight93 Honestly? Let those fanboys run their mouths, it's all they can do. They're desperate for attention and validation for some reason. It's a great time to be a Nintendo fan. They can try and convince me Tlou and death stranding are amazing games, but for me they quickly bored me to tears and made me realize why I appreciate the effort and polish Nintendo puts in their gameplay.
Sadly, Those games are all about the presentation and graphics, any gameplay feels like an afterthought. Not saying it's terrible, I will gladly say Tlou had a great story with good characters and graphics, but the same repetitive gameplay in the game quickly lost me.
It's interesting to hear they fanboy over death stranding, that has to be the most divisive game I've ever seen. I don't think I've seen a game get so many 'game of the year' nominations while also appearing on as many 'worst games of the year' lists. Also, didn't it fall dramatically from sales charts in it's first few weeks?
Regardless, it shouldn't be about the systems, it should be about the games. If we can't recognize great games that push gameplay forward, no matter where they're available to play, we're holding back the progress of the industry for stupid, selfish reasons. I absolutely love Persona 5 and will no matter where it's available to play. Just as I love Xenoblade or Zelda.
@IanC14 Huh.... I played this years ago when it released on ps3. Don't remember anything transphobic about it. Then again, I don't search for things to be offended by. What exactly is this referring to ingame? Anyone know?
"ranked countries by how many achievements residents of each had scored, divided by population size" Well this skews things. Unfortunately, this to me is just another statistic that says what the creators of the study want it to say by looking at selective data.
I don't fully understand the hype of the film. It's ok at best, some nostalgia for those who like the character, but it would be a better fit coming out back in the 90's. It is funny to see people hyping it as doing 'better' than Detective Pikachu, despite it grossing less worldwide. It does help me understand how Sonic still manages to be a thing despite having some of the worst games ever though, lol
@mesome713 I was thinking of getting Resident Evil 3 myself, but everyone I've talked to has told me they finished it in only around 5 hours. They've also said there's a lot of content cut from the original release. They don't hate it, in fact they would still recommend it, but even they say it feels more like really good, if overpriced, DLC rather than a whole new game. So for me, I'll personally wait until it goes on sale. I just bring it up because I can't help but feel that may have affected sales.
I remember this. Their advertisement for Nintendo Power with it started my subscription to it. Started with Volume 16 and ended with Vol 264. Still have all but a few of them
