Re: Koei Tecmo Is Bringing Atelier's Ryza To 'Warriors: Abyss'

Princess_Lilly

@KaijuCouture I am not saying that they are not, but I have to say that while I know the meme about Ryza having thick thighs, I also know that the writers did an amazing job in bringing out her personality and that as a character, she is so much more than her outside features. I mean there is a reason this game was such a massive success.

You're probably right and I should have shut up because all in all it's not the end of the world, but I have terrible hindsight, it only works for the past

Re: Opinion: We'll Never Get A Final Boss As Good As Pokémon Legends: Arceus Again

@Anachronism most lore is hearsay though. It is said to be powerful and incredibly potent but then you meet it and it's just a big monster. His mom, Mew, is at least incredibly intelligent for a pokemon. Not to say that according to lore Magcargo is the most powerful mon as his body temperature would literally ignite the atmosphere. And about the gameplay not mattering - if it's a wimp in a game, it is a wimp in lore, I really dislike this "lore over gameplay" thing that some games try to push. There are ways to make your opponent feel super powerful, and if they don't do it, it simply isn't meant to be depicted as such.

Man I just realized I love hating on Arceus. Mew is best and I am willing to defend this hill

Re: Anniversary: No, There's Absolutely No Way In Hell Animal Crossing: New Horizons Is Five Today

Time is speeding up and everyone sees this. It is a phenomenon that was widely regarded as something to do with perception and old age, but nowadays even young people feel it. I feel it. There are theories that it's because of "doomscrolling" and getting information faster than being able to remember them, but I call red bull.

Conspiracy theories start

@SlamDunk22 well, it was an import operation from our good neighbors. Or did you mean how was it so long ago and not how it happened

Re: Chances Are You've Never Heard Of Nightdive Studio's Latest Switch Rerelease

@Manah Yeah, we had a lot of related stuff in HS too. It's good that the topics are being mentioned, but I really feel like most of the public knowledge about it is being derived from the movies and video games. As in, it works for imagination better than books which are too complicated for many and the message just fly over their heads. And it's a powerful propaganda tool.

For instance, everyone "knows" the Turing Machine as the first computer because of the movie "Beautiful Mind". Nobody knows that it was actually a Polish invention called "Cryptologic Bomb" only slightly altered. The "Dunkirk" movie only showed heroic British forces, even though the whole operation was one big mess and it was literally just a retreat in panic, and they were covered by Polish and Canadian forces which did all the fighting. Again, nothing like that was even mentioned. There are countless examples like that.

Pushing fake history isn't new. Everyone will say that Columbus discovered America, even though it was not true even for his own expedition. The first ones to actually see the land were the Pinzon brothers, and they were the first who came back and reported the find to the king. They just didn't make it a big deal. Columbus gathered some specimen plants and animals and made a huge parade when he came back much later, and this is why everyone's history book will still say it's Columbus who discovered America.

What I'm getting at is that entertainment avenue works better in educating the public than actual education and scholar resources. And if you censor one of two ultranationalistic ideologies' symbols, you just make a clear distinction - swastica symbolizes something so bad you shouldnt even look into it. Red star is ok.

This is what ticks me off with censoring history in vgs and movies.

And yeah, with US getting super polarized between communists on far left and everyone else on the right, and China + Russia being literally dystopian nazistates ruled by unhinged space cases, it looks like nobody cares about "not repeating history" anymore.

Re: Pocketpair Recalls "Depressing Day" Nintendo Announced Its Palworld Lawsuit

@Mesozoic_Masquerade sorry for the late reply. Well, stealing assets is a huge no go, it is a plagiarism to some extent. I assume the other game was craftopia? Yeah it did look like a combination of very weird things, I remember watching the trailer and being more and more weirded out and then a panzer IV tank appeared on the screen o_O.

The thing is, to me Palworld was enjoyable. In terms of gameplay it was really nice. The base building was meh but most pals looked really cute.

As for Cassette Beasts - I hope it was the cause, but I fear that it was simply that Palworld gained so much traction and became a threat. Don't get me wrong, CB looks like a great game (in my backlog for quite some time) but it's way too ambitious to become very popular. What I also don't like is that Nintendo tried patent trolling them, getting themselves into a nearly unwinnable fight. Big players often do that for various reasons

Re: Sakurai Says Japanese Developers Should Avoid Trying To Appeal To Western Tastes

Princess_Lilly

You don't jump on the sinking ship

While western gaming had its moments (Morrowind, Disciples, Sacred, Pirates! and many more), it can't even compete with Japanese games. No amount of budget can fix the wrong attitude at the blueprint level. 50% on marketing 49% on graphics, 0.1% on music and 0.9% on partying (story is 0.0%, it is written on the last day on a lap in a tram by a guy who was late to work most times). It just doesn't work, paraphrasing the well known saying.

Re: Pocketpair Recalls "Depressing Day" Nintendo Announced Its Palworld Lawsuit

Princess_Lilly

While I kinda understand people who say Palworld "stole" something from Pokemon (although I do not agree with it, there were games that "borrowed" much more, like Genshin took literally 95% of BotW [I still love both]), I have to point out that gameplay mechanics being patented is VERY dangerous to the industry. Especially when companies with money/connections for winning patent wars are not always the ones that actually came up with the idea, and people who actually made the games are not always the ones who profit from them.

Re: Chances Are You've Never Heard Of Nightdive Studio's Latest Switch Rerelease

@Manah yeah, I know. German versions are always heavily modified. IHNMAIMS depicts the concentration camps in a very graphic way (although not even close to what really transpired there) so I assume this falls under this trend.

What I struggle to comprehend is that this kind of censorship is actually counterproductive. Why would anyone erase such things from the public? Why not show the atrocities committed in the name of a completely lunatic vison that essentially devolved 2 nations to animals in a manner of years? It won't magically make the underlying cause go away. It just rewrites the history for the next generation so that they won't know what happened.

As George Santanaya said "Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it". And acting like nothing happened is not a good way to learn. Funny thing is, the quote was in a Call of Duty trailer, which showed, among other things, the photos from the massacre at tiananmen square. The CCP "government" said to remove it and Acti instantly cut it from the trailer. Peak irony.

Re: Atelier Yumia Scores Free Demo Next Week, While New Trailer Dives Into Gameplay

Princess_Lilly

Great, fantastic! I'll definitely check it out!

I am so glad that Atelier series is now full mainstream, earning its place among the best of the best and most popular RPGs. It is a series about putting an effort first and slowly building skill to make something wonderful, after all.

I can't wait to hear the music, Atelier music is always brilliant, it is on par with Nobuo Uematsu, and I know the weight of this statement

Re: "I Couldn’t Allow Myself To Kill My Soul" - Kamiya Dives Deeper On Why He Left PlatinumGames

Princess_Lilly

@Samalik I was referring to this sentence: "gradually shifting towards a modern model of game development that doesn’t place importance on the creators’ individuality,"

The phrase "Modern model of game development" reeks of stunts Actiblizz, EA and Ubi try to pull off and fail time and time again. And if platinum shifts towards low quality, it's gonna be the next ubi.

Individuality of creators is paramount for a game to succeed. Nobody wants a bland mix, video games are art pieces, a medium through which creators communicate with the players.

Re: Feature: But The Future Can Change - Chrono Trigger And Learning To Love The World

Princess_Lilly

Great piece. I would add that the bad ending is impactful because we, as the player, get to see how everything turns to dust, how people are starving (the healing machine that heals you but says "but the hunger remains"), how you see the world devoid of life and have to actually get through a portion of it, this experience leaves a lasting impression. It has been done in some other games, but Chrono Trigger did it perfectly
