@Nalverus @LazyDaisy It still happens in the UI though (Persona 3 Reload is the worst offender, since the UI is so stylised that it couldn't adapt to the Nintendo layout on Steam.)
@Nep-Nep-Freak On PC, you don't really need to specialise; obviously, your libraries will be split, but you can easily choose a shop to buy games in on a case by case basis.
@romanista Nintendo's teams aren't small, they are probably just busy. Personally, hearing this work is being done by a talented porting team is primarily good news, as it means the developers of these games are focused on their next projects, not background work for the console launch. (As I highlighted in my other comment though, the implications for other games developed internally getting future patches isn't very positive though.)
@B3RTAY I think the most reasonable interpretation is that Panic Button is done updating games, but that the updates won't necessarily stop here; while it might be pure cope, I don't think it is unrealistic to assume that if the Xenoblade games are getting updated for example that they would be enhanced by Monolith in house and thus be on a completely different schedule. The wording (and the recent discounts) both make me nervous for TTYD and Mario and Luigi Brothership getting patches or Switch 2 Editions though.
Edit: I do realise the fact that Paper Mario and Brothership are made by external teams actually puts them in a similar situation to Xenoblade, but Monolith has a much better track record with optimisation and pushing hardware than Acquire or Intelligent Systems so I am still more optimistic there.
TOTK and BOTW actually don't run with 4k visuals (it is a dynamic 1440p, which is still excellent but represents about 50% of the pixel count of a full native 2160p resolve). (I don't really have an opinion on Gaten loving these games, so I just thought I would combat slight misinformation while I am here.)
@JohnnyMind No one is saying the developers shouldn't be paid for this work, we are saying that charging the consumer for it is unreasonable. Keeping a game in the public eye with more content generates sales; that is a much more reasonable way to subsidise the work than charging that much for it. Bananza's DLC should not be price matching Silksong, that is just crazy.
@Anti-Matter You won't need to rebuy the DLC; if it is attached to your account you still have it. You only need to pay the $5/£4 upgrade to get the new features (obviously I know you prefer physical games so it is up to you whether you want the Switch 2 cartridge or not, but nonetheless you have no reason to buy Happy Home Paradise again.)
@TheExile285 I am convinced we are getting a Switch Edition, since it would make literally 0 sense to release an update with no resolution and FPS upgrade if they didn't have something else planned.
@Angelic_Lapras_King If the second screen had the chipset for Wii U like streaming and GameShare, it could be a relatively compelling device if Nintendo made it affordable and supported it in as many games as possible.
(The service would also be a lot cooler if we could also use our Switch 1s as the second screen; it could be a bit cumbersome, but as an alternative solution for docked play it could be nice.)
@FrenchVaniIIuxe Generally, you are correct in that worse games tend to do worse, but we can see from wonderful indie titles that fly under the radar and Scarlet and Violet selling over 20 million units that being good or bad isn't enough to dictate sales. Although it is hardly an indie game, anyone trying to tell me that Metaphor Refantazio is a worse RPG than modern Pokémon despite selling less than pokemon is crazy.
@FrenchVaniIIuxe Arceus was the best Pokémon game in ages, it sold badly because it released in January and was usurped by gen 9 only 10 months later. Sales are probably the worst measure of quality in a game I can think of.
@SillyG I agree it is terrible, but these optimisations were obviously made around the Switch 1; the fact that it leads to very good Switch 2 performance is fairly irrelevant, since most of the version differences are lighting related and so not appear to be rooted in the artstyle and map design choices.
I will have to look into this; my NSO family membership is due to lapse as we never upgraded to the expansion pack, and since I turned off repeat billing I will make sure this is a deal worth claiming. (That said, I wouldn't be surprised if the price per month is still better elsewhere.)
@NinjaWaddleDee No, your complaint is totally fair; I so think it would be fine though if @KidSparta's claim is accurate, since that would actually be an example of them working to make their actual games better.
@Lizuka I wouldn't recommend Bayo 2 or Tennis Aces, since Tennis Aces has very little content, and Bayo 2, while allegedly great (I haven't played it) seems to be available for a low enough price elsewhere that it would be a waste of a voucher. XCX is probably the best value in terms of high quality content, but ARMS is also meant to be great.
Seems unfortunate, but in a game like Splatoon 3, a perfect 60fps should have been the number one priority anyway. I can't say I am happy about it, but I do not know anyone who will care, as I think we can safely say that any Nintendo fan who is willing to nitpick graphics like that probably got the Switch 2 at launch. I am sorry to anyone who feels affected and hasn't purchased Switch 2 yet though.
@TrogdorTheBurninator @Yosher This allows Switch 2 users to use a primary mechanic in any situation. It is fundamental to Splatoon 3's gameplay, as are it's limitations. This will decimate the balance of online play until it's fixed.
@HingryHuppo I disagree completely. The point of repairability is to be future proof; for a device to stand the test of time, it should remain useful and valuable to a consumer far into the future. Your comparison stretches much further than the Switch's life, and ignores the fact that it is fully within Nintendo's power to make the Switch more repairable, but they have eschewed this; iFixit explicitly state that improved documentation would propel it to a 6/10. Adding QoL to an NES game is far less feasible, so I don't feel their criticism isn't apt.
Hopefully the Switch 2 is much better, though the reliance on UFS 3.1 storage doesn't make me optimistic due to it's limited consumer availability.
It is a frustrating reality of Nintendo's desire to retain the purity of their end user experience that they dismiss the user's ownership and agency. Their belief that their way is the right way - and the way that view has shaped their business sense - has begun to feel very backwards and agonising in the modern day.
@N00BiSH The game is a perfect candidated for DLC, it is a late in life release, and it is ideal to showcase 120 fps. I strongly disagree, and I believe Wonder is actually the most probable Switch 2 Edition.
@Max_the_German The correct solution would be to blacklist, because they can literally put a button prompt on the system menu to Switch from "simulated handheld mode" to "simulated docked mode" in supported titles, as every Switch game is programmed to have its mode switch on the fly so it wouldn't break anything in the software to have it change from believing it was in docked mode to handheld mode during run time. (I really think this would be the perfect solution for unpatched games, so I hope they have thought of it.)
@JohnnyMind Yes, although I don't have the hardware right now to pick it up for myself, Clair Obscur looks straight up my alley, and so it is really lovely to see a game doing so well on a mandate of quality alone.
@Anti-Matter You do know that some PS5 games do not have the whole of the game data on the disk, and also require an internet connection? I am not defending this, but there is no actual guarantee when games like Doom: The Dark Ages are launching with the same set up on other platforms that a disk means ownership anymore sadly. They may end up having it be effectively a Game Key Card on all platforms.
@timp29 It is at 155 now though, so it doesn't have much more than the 4.5 million to sell to usurp the PS2. It only needs to sell 6, maybe 7 million units to defeat PS2, 10 million more if Sony keeps rounding up. Considering current levels of momentum with a new console announced, it won't be difficult for Nintendo to break the barrier with the next two years of life support; if they give the console an official price cut, it will reach it in no time.
@pikachupikachup It is because Mario always grows significantly with each generation, and Animal Crossing and Zelda are both almost certainly a ways out. It is simply the most overdue triple A Nintendo release.
Edit: Excluding Mario Kart, but we already know everything about that game.
I feel a bit boring saying that I am most excited for the franchises mentioned, but it is for good reason. Luigi's Mansion, Pikmin and Xenoblade all stand out as franchises that are outstandingly positioned to exploit Switch 2 hardware. Be it Mouse Mode enhancing Pikmin, and Xenoblade benefitting from more power due to it's scope or Luigi's Mansion using Ray Tracing for better gameplay, all are enticing. I would say however that I am most excited by Splatoon, in large part because the series has never been subject to a generational leap; the gap between Wii U and Switch was too small for anything grandiose, and so seeing the Splatoon team expanding the series to fill bigger boots is truly novel in a way that seeing other Nintendo franchises leaping to new frontiers isn't.
@N00BiSH True, but this article also refers to a Nintendo Direct narrator not getting one, which feels a little poor. I can't see why I got my Switch 2 order in before someone who literally sold the console to me gets one.
I am really surprised Nintendo doesn't have any kind of allocation for their own staff; obviously, there is a limit, but I really would have thought that the people helming it's launch titles, marketing and hardware design would at least have been able to buy one from the company. Perhaps not before release date, but surely they could put aside a few to give to their teams come June 5th?
This is a really painful reveal for me, as it almost guarantees two things; first of all, Persona 5 Royal will probably charge full price again for a Switch 2 enhancement, and also that the inevitable Metaphor Refantazio and Persona 3 Reload ports will be game key cards. That is very disappointing, as I was hoping that I would be able to play P5R enhanced on Switch 2 without overpaying.
Add one more game to that list; RAIDOU Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army is a timed exclusive on Switch 2, releasing on launch day where other platforms get it two weeks later on June 19th. It doesn't change the discussion in any way other than to enhance an already strong launch lineup.

Re: AI Upscaling On Nintendo Switch 2 Is Basically Real Thanks To Updated Patent
@StewdaMegaManNerd It can reduce file sizes, but it shouldn't. DLSS (the tech Nintendo is modifying) does not improve texture quality, the feature of the game that affects file sizes. Re: AI Upscaling On Nintendo Switch 2 Is Basically Real Thanks To Updated Patent
@SillyG Nintendo isn't doing this for no reason; DLSS at 4k is an objective increase in fidelity compared to native 1080p, and in the 540p case this will almost certainly be necessary to deliver a 1080p presentation in titles that need it. This isn't at the expense of native 1080p; it is a meaningful step beyond that, and will massively benefit games where that was never going to be possible on Switch 2.

@AnnoyingFrenzy It is based on the data requirements of the modern day.
