@SillyG Nintendo isn't doing this for no reason; DLSS at 4k is an objective increase in fidelity compared to native 1080p, and in the 540p case this will almost certainly be necessary to deliver a 1080p presentation in titles that need it. This isn't at the expense of native 1080p; it is a meaningful step beyond that, and will massively benefit games where that was never going to be possible on Switch 2.
@AnnoyingFrenzy It is based on the data requirements of the modern day. As our cultures have become more bandwidth hungry, engineers have been forced to continuously innovate in delivering data at usable distances at higher frequencies. This is a practical challenge as a fundamental law of physics dictates that wavelength, the value that controls a WiFi signal's ability to bypass obstacles, is inversely related to the frequency (how many waves reach a point in a second). As we cannot change the speed in the equation V=fλ (V being speed, f being frequency, and lambda λ being wavelength) we need newer technologies to pick up and receive data in higher bands with greater sensitivity, hence WiFI 2-7.
@Serpenterror I don't think any of their recent games that skipped Switch, except possibly Persona 3 Reload, would actually be able to run on the console. I am confident most will come over to Switch 2 in due course but the fact is that those games would not be playable on the original Switch, otherwise it would have released on the console. You are correct with their older titles though - they should certainly come over.
@Bondi_Surfer That is interesting, but I am fairly sure that was a joke. 😄 What is the situation with patenting toilet paper? I am not informed enough on that area of commerce to know which features warrant patenting.
@Kingchin Digital Foundry shwocased that on PS4/Xbox One, the load speeds do naturally improve with a faster storage solution, same as PC (the Switch also already loads at different speeds depending on the storage device used). If a game is taking a while to load, faster data streaming will improve things without intervention from the developers. The difference in efficiency for the modern machines more comes down to the hardware decompression engines in both the Series S|X and PS5 (rumoured and leaked to be in Switch 2 also) that would not be available to older software.
When I ask for better loading, I don't mean a patch to take advantage of the hardware, I just don't want my SD card loading slower than it has to buy using UHS-1 speeds like it would if I put it into an OG switch, rather than the full Express speeds it is capable of; I am not expecting any software related improvements on games without patches.
@UltimateOtaku91 Keep the vouchers; TOTK is valid for them despite being the most expensive game in their library and I suspect MK9/the Next 3D Mario game and the like will be priced similarly.
@RupeeClock I suspect they will just have to explain clearly that the "EX" tag means it works for Switch 2 games, and that everything else will be Switch 1 only, but you are right in that this will be an issue. I do hope that NS1 games don't revert to UHS-1 speeds for back compat as is supported by SD Express since it would be sad to be speed bottlenecked on older games unnecessarily.
@GrailUK I heard a suggestion that they could also put mirrors in the attachable grips for the Joy cons to reflect light onto the sensor for Wii Mote functionality, which sounds incredibly useful and fun if the hypothesis is true.
@8bit-Man It is definitely real. As other people have said, the warranty number is accepted by Nintendo's support site, and it is annotated with the rumoured 'BEE' product ID and an X at the beginning of it's warranty number, corroborating multiple other leaks and proving that it is part of a new product line, thus being as trustworthy as any leak can possibly be.
@sunspotty @SilvercatMoonpaw With Nintendo's recent patent of connecting phones as controllers and extra screens to the console, I would love for Nintendo to sell a DS style second screen peripheral, and let us use the aforementioned second screen, switch 1, and even our phones for Wii U style gameplay that can be easily shared with friends.
@Not_Soos Completely agree; the precise idea you described is something I have been dreaming of for years. That being said, with the potential extra costs I feel Nintendo's best move for DS virtual console is Tate Mode/side by side support with the second screen available as a peripheral for the mad men like ourselves who miss the true Dual Screen days.
I was super excited about the Nintendo Music announcement, but the fairly narrow list of titles at launch and confirmed for release concerned me as to the rate of output. If we get new games added every day or two though, then soon I may find myself using it as much as Spotify!
Edit: It really just is a case of them adding composer credits and the app will already by exactly how I want it.
@Euler @Chibi_Manny @FishyS That is likely to be incorrect; Nintendo tends to announce consoles officially about 5/6 months before release, so while it could be then it is highly improbable.
@LadyCharlie adding to @Poco_Lypso's point, I would guess both are true. It is likely case that the positions that are being cut are not the same ones where growth is occurring; while I suspect the folk at Evening Star won't struggle to get rehired, the severe concentration of layoffs in QA means that it is completely conceivable that some sections of the industry are growing while others are reneging.
@Mana_Knight Very likely to be ILCA; while Alpha dream has not been resuscitated for the project, they took in the most Devs from the studio of any company and they have a history of successfully straddling RPG projects.
Edit: I forgot to mention Nintendo has confirmed that ex Alphadream Devs are involved in the creation of the game, providing credence to this theory; there is more detail on the topic from Nintendo Forecast, the channel I pulled this suggestion from.
I don't know if Krafton are the best people to do this (I know very little about them as a company) but the survival of Tango Gameworks is a massive victory against the tide of closed studios. Hopefully the news was established early enough internally that most, if not all, of the team are still in their positions if they want to be.

Re: Nintendo Direct April 2025: Time, Where To Watch, What To Expect On Switch 2
It is not 2pm BST, but 3pm; that is the GMT conversion, so it is actually an hour later. Hopefully that doesn't force to change the whole article.

*many listings, not "many listing" - just thought I would point out the small typo.
