Back when I played the 1st, 2nd and Super; I thought the world's would grow in size, with optional backtracking and branching exploration. The exact opposite happened. As much as I like Metroid, I think I'll pass on this one.
Why, do we have hardware that's 100x more powerful from what we had back in the day, yet the game world's feel smaller than ever?
I'm really getting tired of these remakes/remasters, when I've already played the originals.
I'd much rather see a brand new game.
That being said...I would more than likely purchase both Links Awakening & Chrono Trigger, if they were to release them with QoL improvements. (They're two of my favorite games from the SNES era).
25 years ago, when I didn't have anything better to do with my time, I probably would have dug in and beat the game, just for bragging rights (even though no one cares and it's not like it's going on your resume); I may have thought the difficulty was 'cool'.
But now a days? I'll pass. Memorizing patterns accompanied with precision input & timing sounds more like a job, than it does a game. Not my definition of fun.
I was going to purchase this game, but luckily I was able to play it on gamepass for free.
After having a good time exploring and beating the first few bosses; I quickly realized; the developers think memorizing lengthy patterns and dodging attacks for 10 minutes is their definition of 'fun'...I realized have better things I can do with my time.
In my opinion, this could be a great game, but it isn't. With all of the hype, what I think we have, is a case of people jumping on the bandwagon, cause they think it's cool.
I'd be willing to bet, not one person here owns or plans to buy this game...which is why it's being delisted.
And oh, if you own a physical game and your house burns down, guess what, the game is gone. Same goes for books and all other types of mediums. At least digital copies can easily be replicated.
@TheDragonDAFan For starters, you know what you're paying for before you buy it. No one's forcing you to buy video games. Second, if you don't like it, develop your own game to your own exact specifications.
And don't get me wrong, I agree with your logic, I just don't think it's very realistic.
This has to be the most pretentious movement in video gaming history.
If I were a video game developer and the consumer had more rights over what I do with my time and efforts, than I do? I wouldn't want to develop video games, I'd say, screw these kids and their childish entitlement.
This may have been right up my alley as a child; especially if there was nothing else like it. But now that I'm much older, beating an extremely difficult game, just for bragging rights sounds like a chore, which is opposite of fun.
While I've bought'n played every DooM game ever made, all of their most recent games (over the last decade or so) have been lacking traditional death match; which is where the magic was at. Not sure why they would exclude a part of the game that had everything to do with its popularity in the first place.
I've noticed this trend amoungst all of my favorite old school IP's that are being developed by people that have nothing to do with the originals. Games such as Diablo and Metroid, two of my other all time favorites, change up the formula and then wonder, why their new games aren't as popular.
@slytherin_real
I don't know where you got 'people weren't allowed to discuss the pros and cons because I OWN a switch', when all I said was I was going to throw my switch out, because it's not perfect in the eyes of others.
Hideki Kamiya's comment just about sums up my thoughts on video game culture, social media and what it has become. A bunch of whiny know it all's that can't help themselves, having to voice every s****y opinion and personal analysis that floats through their head. Like they're some sort of gift from God.
It's like a addiction to being pretentious ...where they just can't help themselves.
"It's like they enjoy the smell of their own brand"
No offense, but I'm not sure I can appreciate this new gaming culture. It's like going to a video game convention, being surrounded by thousands of self absorbed people giving their own 'critical analysis'. It's like comparing a open a bag of vinegar potato chips to a dutch oven.
It's really annoying, I come to these forums in hopes to read something interesting and new. What do I get? A bunch of self proclaimed fortune tellers that want to play CEO.
Hats off to those that have something to say other than their take on the what the 'market' wants.
I used to work in video game retail (24 years ago) and to the best of my knowledge...the retailer doesn't send back unsold copies...they're marked down in price and eventually end up in a bargain bin.
@Edu23XWiiU Right, first time in human history, a company goes under and who do you blame; wokeness? The great depression, that was because of wokeness too, huh? 🙄
The childish drama that seems to gravitate towards video games now a days...is it because of social media, the fact that all ages participate, advertising disguised as journalism?
@Anti-Matter Yeah, I agree...when it's unique and original. But if you're an older gamer like myself, you get to a point, where you've been there, done that.
Initially, I took the time to follow the story in this latest addition to the Zelda series...but after a while, the story began a generic filler to the fetch quests. Don't get me wrong though, outside of the story and fetch quests, the puzzles and combat are where it's at...which has always been a staple to the Zelda series.
My example of an exceptional game, with a great story and great gameplay would be Red Dead Redemption 2. But those sorta games are few and far between.
Not a fan of adults adopting childish trends, but heck, if kids like to abuse the phrase 'grab a bag of pop corn' and laugh themselves to sleep over an image with a caption...god bless their tiny brains and little hearts! *sarcasm
I can appreciate the video, where the voice first calls it a shooter, but then starts formulating the jumbled name it has evolved into...which was never a thing...until children had a say.
As much as I love handheld consoles, I don't see the next Nintendo console having much of an improvement over the current hardware. So it better be backwards compatible, or I won't be spending a half a grand, just to play a remake of a game I played 25+ years ago..
Nintendo could however, bring back accurate motion controls, light guns and other interactive controllers...something the other console makers don't really excel at. And the developers of the interactive games could make them online for the purpose of competition...I can see the future...
I don't view gaming as a chore, so a soon as a game becomes predictable, I sit it down and pick another one up. If the game was good enough, I'll return to it after an extended period of time.
Example, Diablo 4. Grinding for materials. It's the biggest waste of time, in my opinion. I'll level to about 80..but as soon as the game turns into 'days of grinding' for a slight power increase, I'm out.
I just picked up Tears of the Kingdom again and I'm having fun with it...but as soon as it becomes a chore, meaning I've replaced my sense of exploration with a systematic grind of finding and completing shrines...I'm going to have to sit down the controller again.
@Oracles_fanboi "Didn't Nintendo basically already confirm that the timeline is whatever they want it to be when it's convenient for them, and that having a continuity isn't really a priority of theirs?"
My thoughts exactly. When I was a child, I thought the only 'way' was picking up the story where the previous entry left off. As an adult, I could care less...seeing as it IS fiction afterall.
Whether it's for fixing bugs or optimization, I always look forward to updates. It usually means that there's an overall improvement to the game....or stability of the hardware.
@KBuckley27 "nobody is buying a $400 to $500 console for backwards compatability"
That's not true at all. Why should I have to buy my favorite games over and over again, each time a new console is released? And this is coming from a guy that's owned ever single console and has absolutely no desire to dedicate an entire room in my house, for my "physical collection". I went digital a long time ago and have zero plans to start a physical collection again.
'When you get older, surrounding yourself with a collection that you started when you were a child...is childish.'
@KidSparta Yeah, I'm not a fan of negativity, but it's true. Most game developers lack originality and so they milk the original ip to death and sometimes cheapen the overall experience with predictability (I'm looking at you Dread, with all of your color coded doors). The only upgrade or advancements they can come up with, are better graphics and new level design.
How about giving you all of the old power ups at the beginning...and get this...coming up with new ones to discover! No, that would require original ideas, which most developers are in capable of.
If that's what you're looking for, check out Secrets of Grindea for the PC. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, that they'll eventually port it to consoles.
Two of my favorites, which aren't on the list are Final Fantasy Adventure (Zelda clone) and Crystalis (NES remake / Zelda clone). Elevator Action was also fun, for its time. Same goes for Final Fantasy Legends II (jrpg).

Final Fantasy Adventure. That's what this game is like. But I guess most of you wouldn't know that, because you're too young.
Also, I don't think I want to a associate with the new video gamer culture any more. What some of you say and think...it's embarrassing.
