I like being a part of no closed ecosystem, able to buy and sell games in the future to various people. Nintendo games often retain their value, and it's nice buying a game and knowing that I can resell it for about the same I bought it for. Or at least I like having that option so I'd always go physical.
part 2 is kinda ridiculous. I never look at my screen as it is, why would I want to pay extra for a nicer looking screen? It would be like adding a monitor to my graphics card that sits inside my pc case that I can't see from my chair. I try not to just throw my money away if I can.
Nope. I'm going to record thousands of levels, but I stick to expert mostly, I'd get burnt out playing just Super Experts. Much rather record way more levels than just these impossible things that drive me mad with frustration and thumb pain while taking a lot longer to win, if I ever do.
Anyways, I run the largest (?) archive of uncut, no commentary Mario Maker 1 & 2 courses (over 50,000 videos so far) on Youtube and If anyone wants to see their Mario Maker 1 levels on there, I'm taking requests if anyone has a level or creator code, so long as it's no lower than 1% clear rate.
Looks like something for fans of portables. I can't imagine I'd get much use out of it as I already have some controllers and this looks awkward compared to the wired Hori controllers and I never play portable. And I don't really get the kickstand, like why put it in there if you have to set the controllers down? If you're playing in table top mode, you need controllers in your hands, not on a table.
@Rykdrew Mario World is a terrible game compared to any of the New series. You can beat the whole game in just a few hours and then unless you're a speedrunner, there isn't any good replay value. New Supes have 3 star coins in each level, that makes those games far better (this game has Wonder Seeds). I love the levels in Super Mario World, but there's no reason to revisit any of them, there's no bigger challenge besides passing the level, so it's more of a game you beat and then play something else.
Passing the levels in modern games isn't so hard, it's collecting all the Star coins. Just because you get the credits doesn't mean anything, the real challenge is in 100 percenting the game and they all have their tough coins to get. Besides that, the stuff in the badge system like invisibility or can't stop running look like their made for people looking for a challenge. As challenging as Dark Souls? Could be.
@Cashews How did you get $0.02? A quick search says it's $0.2 per install. 20 cents (i.e. $0.2) multiplied by the number of copies which is 500 million. That's .2 x 500,000,000.00 = 100,000,000.00 which are dollars, so that's 100 million dollars. If I'm wrong I'd be happy to learn where I messed up, but I'm not seeing it.
[edit: which at that point it's cheaper to file a lawsuit than to pay up.]
I don't get it, it looks exactly how I remember. I like Nintendo's games but I don't see the big appeal that everyone else does. But maybe that's just because I've had access to the game for the last 20 years if I wanted to play it. I'm not complaining that it's releasing it's still a good game just it's old and gamecube games don't need polishing like SNES games do. I kind of think the game was just fine as is, if nobody told me watching that I would have just assumed it was a Gamecube game or someone upped the resolution with an emulator. Still hoping they have something to surprise us with, I'm open to wanting it, but they have to add some significant new features before I'd consider picking it up.
@sanderev Speaking of the free game Pokemon Go, apparently it has been downloaded 500 million times. That means Niantic owes Unity 100 million dollars. I can sense some lawsuits in the future.
Weird answers on there, I didn't want to answer because I don't care about Thousand Year Door, I already played it years ago. F-Zero 99 was awesome, Peach looks cool, so does Warioware, Mario Vs. Donkey Kong, etc. there were a lot of games coming out to look forward to.
They're always interesting to watch but I'm not really looking forward to it. They already sold me on Mario Wonder, Wario Ware, Mario RPG, Princess Peach, and Luigi's Mansion. I'm not made of money here.
Well no loss here, I could never figure out the controls for that game. It looked nice but it was completely unplayable for me. Even when I won it felt like I was all over the road. I would have kept playing if it had a controller option.
The company is over a hundred years old, doing entertainment the whole time. Recently noobs and gaijin have seen the company only for games, but they've done a lot, and if video games ever go out of favor, they'll just move on to something else like they always have probably just as successful as ever, maybe more so. Whatever that is, it will be based on the century long data they've built working in the entertainment industry, a metric that few companies can boast which I feel has always given them a leg up on the competition.
I'm really looking forward to the Direct, though I kind of don't want to watch it. This was a day 1 buy for me, ever since I played Super Mario World (Super Mario Bros. 4). We always need more Super Mario Bros. games. New Super Mario Bros. series was fun, but the Super Mario Bros. games are what really made Mario a household name. Been waiting forever for Mario 5, no Direct is necessary.
[edit: I just noticed there hasn't been a new New Super Mario Bros. game since before Super Mario Maker 1. Wonder if they'll incorporate that level creation and sharing here.]
@gabrigoes Exactly, it is your fault. If people didn't hack their consoles and pirate games none of this would be necessary. These game companies aren't running a charity, sequels only get made when companies sell enough product to justify the development. Of course you're free to feel however you like about it, acting all innocent, shifting blame to the ones making the entertainment that you enjoy so much, but this is entirely the fault of pirates such as yourself. If there was no trending data indicating mass amounts of piracy on the platform, there would be no need for this software.
The Western one looks off model, like fan art almost. The Japanese one looks how I think Megaman and gang are supposed to look. And since it's Megaman, it makes a lot of sense showing all those bosses on the cover.
@AstroTheGamosian I doubt it's related to video games, more of a scheme that lots of music companies do where they claim to own the rights to music that they don't own the rights to. Many Youtubers don't know their rights or aren't big enough to be monetized, so they just let anyone get away with anything. Then the actual artists, that grant rights to record their product they don't have any way to report this or do anything about it, so all anyone can do is dispute. These companies should all be sued for copyright infringement, but since they won't, they'll just carry on stealing from anyone they can.
@AstroTheGamosian Nintendo hasn't done that in years, as long as you follow the terms of service (and you will if you value your channel). For instance, since 2015 I've recorded and uploaded 49,739 monetized Nintendo 1st party gameplay videos to my channel and I've never heard a single peep from Nintendo regarding any of that. The only people making claims on my videos are from scam artists at music companies, such as Sony, who claim to own the rights to Super Mario Bros. music, but they're always easy to dispute and win.
@johnedwin It's nothing like that, Robotron was a twin stick shooter. Here all you do is walk around and occasionally choose a new powerup, weapon, or upgrade. It's really more about upgrade management than reflexes; when you have a really good build, you can just sit there killing and getting stronger without even touching the controller.
I'll bet they'll show off an action adventure game where you play as a character, probably with lots of projectile and melee weapons that you must use to defeat the enemies along your way, going from one locale to the next while fully voiced cutscenes interrupt the gameplay every few minutes. This currently unannounced game will win GOTY. And a similar game will win it the year after. And a similar game will win it the year after that, etc.
Still no City Pop music I'd guess. The game looks fun, but I'm with Anti on this. Modern music really detracts from the experience for me. Even if it weren't City Pop, it seems like there already is great music for a samba game, and it's definitely not rap, pop, or whatever modern thing the kids listen to these days.
Seems weird that they're releasing nba 2k24 on the Switch 2, and PS6. Guess they must know something the rest of us don't. Probably a good time to start saving up.
I don't have the patience to play games without rollback netcode these days. Practically every online multiplayer action game should have it unless it's trying to be different and unusual thematically.
I like these old school fps games a lot, blasting baddies is always fun, however, I hate getting lost, backtracking, and hoping to find a way to continue. I've given up on so many of these games over the years because I didn't know where to go, it would be really great if they'd add some kind of navigation arrow like what Forza or Crazy Taxi have.
@johnedwin why is that? If you've never played it before, what is the difference between this and a new game selling for full price? The graphical difference looked much better on Switch compared to PS3 in the side-by-side video, it's hardly any different than when Katamari Damacy (a game with no extra content) came out on Switch and I don't remember anyone complaining about the price for that. It was older than RDR and a much shorter game and the same price it was when it was new, nearly 2 decades ago.
I just don't understand how being 13 years old is a problem. If you've already played it, don't buy it. If you've never played it before, it's well worth the $50 (assuming it's a decent port).
@Dragnoran I haven't went a day without playing since it launched, so, clearly the flaws aren't really as bad as people say. For sure I played a lot of Wii Sports, Resort and Club, but nothing like this, the rollback netcode online and unlockables and pro ratings make it a whole other thing. I guess it could use some more games but when I'm enjoying game after game of Soccer, how Badminton or Bowling or whatever plays is really none of my concern. [edit: what would be really nice is if they just did what they did with Boxing/ARMS and make each of the good ones into individual full priced AAA games, but it's probably not necessary as Switch Sports is already pretty great as is.]
Wii Sports has been absent since the console arrived and it's selling like hotcakes now because it would have sold like hotcakes on release but Nintendo left everyone waiting starved for a release (also doesn't hurt that it's easily the best game in the franchise and the IP gets both me, the hardcore gamer and the non-gamer crowd).
I also think Mario Maker would have been a great day one game included with the console. People without games would make levels, and get used to Mario and the world's greatest creators, and it would be great. Possibly create more game devs in the future like what happened to Celeste.
@NCChris Yeah I think so. People love to hate Nintendo on online forums like this, especially if it's a well established series that sells good. F-Zero (one of the worst selling IPs) here is one of the greatest games ever according to the commenters and Nintendo is stupid for not making more, meanwhile Switch Sports (one of the best selling games on the system) which got a 6 out of 10 rating on here, had people saying they shouldn't have released it at all.
Which is to say that normal people don't come here, and I wouldn't take anyone's opinion seriously at all, we're all a bunch of fanatics really outside the norm. Some people might have some points but I don't think it's anything to extrapolate data from. Here a lot of people will judge a game without ever playing it, or play the bare minimum to say that they played it just so they can enjoy the thrill of complaining, while people like the general populace having never played a game won't have an opinion at all; or at least not enough to go complain about it online in a website devoted to that topic. I'd assume most people have something better to do, like just playing the games.
I've been waiting for decades for something like this. We got Butterflies but this looks a lot better. Hope there's a demo to shut up all the naysayers, because those first 2 games (especially 1) were completely incredible and if it's anything like that it's sure to be an amazing and unforgettable experience full of cool art, cool music, and fun gameplay and physics that make a noob feel like a pro. There's really nothing like it, and if Sega refuses to make one, this looks like the next best thing.
I was all in for buying the first 2 waves when the game wasn't even out yet since I loved 4, but now that I've played it there's just no amount of characters they could add that would make me want to play it. Adding extra characters doesn't fix the problems with the game, so I never even bothered with the new characters even though I paid for them.
Yeah sure, when you've got like 5 games (and enormous backlogs didn't exist yet) you tended to play even though you won, even when games back then didn't have replay value. This was one of the cool things I had heard about and had to try, back before the Game Genie came out and really opened things up. Some of those codes required you to walk through walls just to progress normally, so this minus world trick did become useful there.
@ModdedInkling If any of that was true don't you think Splatoon 2 & 3 players would be complaining about the game getting worse in the sequels compared to the Wii Us which have sensor bars? I'm here pretty often, and the only thing I've noticed anyone complain about is that the Switch doesn't have a second screen to look at the map.
@ModdedInkling Wait a sec, you must not have played these, or not lately. I play Switch Sports every day, it doesn't desync maybe once every few weeks. I used to play Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort, and Wii Sports Club about every day as well, and I know for a fact that those games needed you to push the direction button to reset it, and it needed to be done several times throughout a match, in addition to the calibration it already does at the beginning of the match. Seems pretty obvious that they got rid of the sensor bar because it's no longer needed. Same thing with ARMS, you start playing that and calibration is never an issure, it just works.
@ModdedInkling That makes a lot of sense however, in practice it's completely different. Wii Sports, Resort, and Club take Tennis for example (or table tennis), your racket would fall out of sync within a couple minutes, so you'd have to hit up (or was it down?) on the wiimote to reset it constantly. Switch Sports it's more like once every few weeks that it might need recalibrated. Which the old Wii Sports games required calibration at the beginning of the match by pointing at a spot on the tv.

Re: "We Have To Do This Now" - Sonic Mania Devs On Creating Chaotic Yo-Yo Platformer Penny's Big Breakaway
I'm pretty excited for this, it reminds me of Sonic Adventure.
Re: Rumour: Nintendo Is Targeting A 2024 Release For The Switch Successor
Good choice on the OLED. I hate to spend a lot on a screen I'm never going to look at.
Re: Talking Point: Would A Third Wave Of Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC Have Been Too Much?
I was all in for buying the first 2 waves when the game wasn't even out yet since I loved 4, but now that I've played it there's just no amount of characters they could add that would make me want to play it. Adding extra characters doesn't fix the problems with the game, so I never even bothered with the new characters even though I paid for them.
Re: Poll: How Many Of You Have Actually Visited 'Minus World' In Super Mario Bros.?
Yeah sure, when you've got like 5 games (and enormous backlogs didn't exist yet) you tended to play even though you won, even when games back then didn't have replay value. This was one of the cool things I had heard about and had to try, back before the Game Genie came out and really opened things up. Some of those codes required you to walk through walls just to progress normally, so this minus world trick did become useful there.
Re: Feature: The One Thing Wii Did Much Better Than Switch
@ModdedInkling If any of that was true don't you think Splatoon 2 & 3 players would be complaining about the game getting worse in the sequels compared to the Wii Us which have sensor bars? I'm here pretty often, and the only thing I've noticed anyone complain about is that the Switch doesn't have a second screen to look at the map.
Re: Feature: The One Thing Wii Did Much Better Than Switch
Re: Feature: The One Thing Wii Did Much Better Than Switch
@ModdedInkling That makes a lot of sense however, in practice it's completely different. Wii Sports, Resort, and Club take Tennis for example (or table tennis), your racket would fall out of sync within a couple minutes, so you'd have to hit up (or was it down?) on the wiimote to reset it constantly. Switch Sports it's more like once every few weeks that it might need recalibrated. Which the old Wii Sports games required calibration at the beginning of the match by pointing at a spot on the tv.
