Re: Switch Hardware Sales Now Over 125 Million, PS2, Nintendo DS Target Still A Way Off

Nintendo_Thumb

@Jalex__64 Definitely, Nintendo portables always dominate. Combining their home and portable consoles and franchises on one device it was really obvious to me what was going to happen. Then youve got kids each having one unlike a home only console, and the controllers snapping off for instant 2 player games anywhere is a fantastic advertisement for the product. You could have 2 people play Mario Kart at the bar, an airport, school, etc, a PS4 doesn't get so much exposure sitting attached to the tv at home.

Re: Every First-Party Nintendo Switch Game That Has Sold Over One Million Copies

Nintendo_Thumb

@_fatto_katto_ It's part of a huge franchise, it's a Fit game, like Wii Fit, Wii Fit Plus, and Wii Fit U. It plays a little different, but it's clearly part of the same franchise. I'd almost call it a spinoff, but since they're unlikely to put out another balance board, I think it can be safe to assume that the series will always have to change to adapt to newer consoles with newer peripherals rather than being the same formula each time.

Re: Poll: One Year On, What Other Events Should Be Added To Nintendo Switch Sports?

Nintendo_Thumb

Yeah I guess I'm not a very social gamer, I just play with randos generally so never noticed the issue.

But as for ARMS, I love it, I think it's great and was surprised I only played 15 hours but well worth it in my opinion. However, I got it at launch and the game was a lot more active then, and now it's a lot harder to get into random matchmaking so maybe wait for a sale. The single player is fun if you're into fighting games and like getting a little exercise (there's standard controller mode but I never used it), but it's really missing a lot when you don't have human opponents to psyche out and trick and try to mind read. Though if you never played it like that, maybe you wouldn't miss it. Then again, if you have people to play with offline, the split-screen multiplayer is pretty fun, and there's also tons of badges to collect, story pages and art to unlock, and a lot of weird modes and lots of difficulty options and arms to collect, muscles to build, and calories to burn, so it's still a fun game as is.

Re: Poll: One Year On, What Other Events Should Be Added To Nintendo Switch Sports?

Nintendo_Thumb

I'm always up for some Switch Sports, though I'm not interested in convincing anyone, I just like having an excuse to play. Sounds like you haven't actually played it enough to know about Bowling. Resort had 100 pin bowling, Switch Sports has Novice, Medium, and Expert Special bowling in addition to the traditional taking turns, or simultaneous bowling which is also new and makes it much better, faster not boring games waiting for your opponent. You'll get the Beginner Special games if you play a few matches, and then when you get good, they'll give you Intermediate lanes, and if you're really good you can play on Advanced.

As for the random matchmaking not being practical, it's perfectly practical for me. I don't care for voice chat or whatever, so none of that discord stuff bothers me at all. When the game starts it takes like 2 seconds to get into a game looking for random players, maybe a minute to find players and that's it, none of that complicated stuff you said, you just set the controller down and wait for players to join. The game has tons of unlockable emojis, of which you can use 4 per game with L or R + a,b,x or y, and everyone has different ones (you may not have earned any, unless it starts you off with some default ones, I forget now), so it keeps things interesting; people can communicate they just have to be a little creative.

Re: Poll: One Year On, What Other Events Should Be Added To Nintendo Switch Sports?

Nintendo_Thumb

@Rykdrew Yeah probably, you've barely scratched the surface. I played 190 hours of it because shockingly it has over 190 hours worth of content. You played it for a few hours expecting it to be something else and then gave up before getting anywhere. You've got $6000 worth of games per year, that's $500 for games per month, that's wild, no wonder you don't play the games you buy, the fomo must be insane. But what I don't get is you can easily spend $500 per month on games, but the $20 a year for Switch online is too much for you and you complain about a $40 game being too expensive, despite it containing hundreds of hours worth of content. Do you usually buy online games with the sole purpose to play them offline? And then, here you are talking about a game you don't like when you've got more games to play than anyone, that should give you more fomo than playing a game you paid for.

The game is not called Wii Sports Resort Remastered, they never mentioned it was a follow up game to that spinoff, it doesn't even take place on Wuhu Island (as in the Resort). None of the games in Resort were online, there no titles to earn, emojis to earn, clothes to earn, Sharks, Astronauts, etc. No competition except for the a.i., and the a.i. wasn't that good. Were you playing Soccer against the CPU? That's an 8 player game, you're supposed to be relying on team work and reading your opponents, without the internet you're missing the whole point of the game.

With $500 per month, you get 8 AAA games per month (that's 2 AAAs per week), you're just spending too much money, you can't even play that many games it's a complete waste. If you only have time to buy and not play, that's not the games fault, it's your fault for wasting money when you clearly don't have time to devote to a single game.

The game is easy to play, it's not easy to win. You likely don't know any strategies, have no practice, know no tricks. Just being able to play something doesn't mean you know anything about how deep the gameplay gets. I play for a challenge, I'm A rank on Tennis, Bowling, Soccer, and Volleyball, you're most likely not even ranked yet and still in the random matchmaking. I feel like this will be rather one-sided but who knows, maybe I'm being overconfident. If you're up for a game my code is in my profile.

Re: Poll: One Year On, What Other Events Should Be Added To Nintendo Switch Sports?

Nintendo_Thumb

You just said you played it 5 hours, how would you know how good or bad soccer is? That's like 45 minutes per game. You wouldn't even know how to play the games at that point, that's not enough time to even figure out if you prefer kicking or swinging your arms. You're not even going to be ranked at that point. Why in the world did you spend money on a game you had no intention of playing? It says 7 games there, did you not read the box? Or do you just like buying whatever because money is just so useless for you that you buy games you don't even plan to play? And then you're so invested in the topic, you come here to complain about a game you don't play. When you bought it what exactly were you expecting? Are you going to try to act like Tennis and Bowling are anything but as good as they've always been? Sorry, I just don't understand your logic at all. If I didn't like a game, I wouldn't have bought it, and sure wouldn't go on a rant about a game I don't like endlessly. You don't see me in the Call of Duty (a game I have no interest in) forums complaining about Call of Duty. Isn't that a tremendous waste of time?

[edit: 190 hours here]

Re: Poll: One Year On, What Other Events Should Be Added To Nintendo Switch Sports?

Nintendo_Thumb

So what? They never said they were releasing more content to the game. They've never released more content for a Wii Sports game before (aside from Golf which they say is coming soon right on the box), this isn't the norm, people are just being entitled expecting more than what was promised. They never said here's 7 games, more on the way. If you don't like Tennis, Bowling, etc. don't buy the game. Vampire Survivors didn't need more content all of the time, people weren't complaining on launch day that there's wasn't enough there, a year after launch people weren't expecting more content without the dev specifically saying there's more DLC we're working on. If you want to buy a sequel with baseball (so boring), basketball, frisbee dog, etc buy that game if it releases. Expecting more content for a game that nobody said there would be more to, is again, setting yourself up for disappointment. People just use it as an excuse to hate on the game, as if what's there is anything but great. Like it's terrible, and we'll wait to buy it until it's complete, well if it's not good enough now, why do you think it will be so much better later. These 7 games are the ones that made it through, that weren't cut, that playtested good. We don't need games that even badminton was preferred over. Adding Tetherball or whatever isn't going to make the online 4v4 Soccer matches any better.

Re: Poll: One Year On, What Other Events Should Be Added To Nintendo Switch Sports?

Nintendo_Thumb

I didn't vote. This is stupid. The box says 7 games, we got 7 games. People expecting anything more are just setting themselves up for disappointment. It was a $40 game, I don't understand why people expect so much. When people buy Forza or God of War or Zelda are they expecting there to be more games on the cart? I guess Yakuza and Shenmue have a lot of games, but a year later do people still expect more games to be added? Did they get this whining for the Genesis collections? It's just so weird. Like this is the only game ever released where people expect more than what's on the box, more than what was claimed to be sold. Or at least I can think of no other game where this is such an issue. If you don't like what's there, you could just not buy it and play something else instead.

Re: Nintendo Switch Is Not "Technically Capable" Of Running Call Of Duty Games, Says CMA

Nintendo_Thumb

Of course, Nintendo always makes the most creative games. If you're going to say they're not creative the least you could do is play the games, if you don't even know what games they make how can you say how creative or uncreative their games are? This is a 1st party Switch game btw. This is just more proof that Nintendo makes weird games, but if it's not Zelda or Mario people just ignore it, and act like it doesn't exist.

[If you haven't figured it out, I was talking about Labo 02: Robot Kit. You build from flat sheets of cardboard a series of weights and pulleys and straps and infra-red tape, etc. a wearable robot exoskeleton with interactive visor that reacts in game 1 to 1 with your movements (counts your calories burned as well). And as amazing as it is, that might be the least interesting Labo kit (edit: of which the Switch has 5 including Game Builder Garage).]

Re: Nintendo Switch Is Not "Technically Capable" Of Running Call Of Duty Games, Says CMA

Nintendo_Thumb

This reads like it's never happened before, this organization sounds like they've been payed off, or are just incredibly out of touch. They're acting like Atari 2600 didn't get Pac Man even though it wasn't capable of running the arcade game. Gameboy got Killer Instinct and Mortal Kombat, GBA got Super Monkey Ball Jr, Space Channel 5, Jet Set Radio, they put Dragon's Lair on the NES. Those games weren't as good as on their original hardware, but this much weaker hardware is perfectly capable of running anything you make for it, it just has to be made specifically for that system in mind.

Re: UK Charts: Minecraft Legends Sells Gangbusters On Switch

Nintendo_Thumb

@Kiz3000 It's weird, it should be higher. I haven't been able to stop playing since it came out, it's a great game. Honestly I'm always surprised to see Fifa up there, when Switch Sports has a far better soccer game. Kicking with your foot and running in place is fantastic, I couldn't even imagine wanting to play anything else after that.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp

Nintendo_Thumb

@CharlieGirl You can get an emulator and pick up the games off ebay and run them through that, but they're charging more for those 2 games used than it would be for a new copy of the Switch game. And if you're just talking about piracy, well who cares? If you were just going to steal the games, you're not really a consumer anyways and there's no reason to market to people like that. You can't compete with free.

Re: Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Multiplayer Mod YouTube Videos Are Getting Copyright Strikes

Nintendo_Thumb

I deleted 1000 videos from my secondary channel voluntarily pre-emptively just because of a Youtube change I thought might cause problems possibly, I wish I could muster some sympathy. Otherwise, of the 47,000 Nintendo videos I've recorded, once in a while I get fake claims from Sony, BMG, DJ's abusing copyright, etc (which I always fight and always win), but Nintendo themselves has never been a problem because I follow the terms of service that clearly state what's allowed and what isn't. I'm thankful that I get to monetize games that they made, without their content I'd have nothing to record so I don't see a problem following their terms. Maybe if I was some amateur just goofing around it's one thing, but if you take your channel seriously you can't just do whatever.

Re: UK Charts: PS5 And Sports Titles Rule Top Ten In Quiet Week For Nintendo

Nintendo_Thumb

@Vyacheslav333 It's good, people can like it but it's just another adventure game. A quick 5 or 10 minute arcade racer is a lot easier to get into than a sprawling multi-hour long adventure. And aside from Balloon World it's not a very competitive game, it barely has multiplayer, Mario Kart however is a party. If you had a kid, either game would make sense, but if you had 2 or more kids and only 1 Switch, Mario Kart is an obvious choice as it will keep up to 4 players entertained at once.

People should get both as they're both great games, but I don't think it should be surprising that Mario Kart did better. Besides Mario racer fans get Mario Kart, Mario platform fans will get Odyssey or 3D World or New SMB U or Super Mario Maker 2 so unless they can afford them all they have ~25% chance of choosing Odyssey wheras Kart has no competition in the Mario racers niche (excluding Nintendo Online), so it's an obvious pick up.

Re: Japanese Charts: Kirby Reclaims First Place As Horse Racing Sim Gallops Into Top Ten

Nintendo_Thumb

@Wheatly It's a tablet so, the PS6 and Xbox whatever are always going to have Resident Evil 9, 10, etc that won't work on Switch 2. They'll bump up the specs to an extent but it still needs to hold a good battery charge without burning up your hands and a fan that's not so loud it's distracting. It also has to be much smaller than a Steam machine, since the current Switch is barely a portable as it is.

Meanwhile, Sony and MS are going to keep making more powerful hardware that doesn't need to worry about all that, so people expecting parity between the 3 are foolish as that's never going to happen. Maybe you'll get Resident Evil 12 on launch date for Switch 2 or 3, but then you'll complain that the graphics aren't as good as on Playstation. Unless Nintendo wants to turn this into a home console only or run everything through the cloud, that will never go away.

Re: Nintendo Announces Super Mario Sale, Wave One Starts This Week (Europe)

Nintendo_Thumb

@Thenewguy Hard to say for sure, but you can play levels that are Easy, Normal, Expert, or Super Expert (all time, within the last 90 days, 1 year, 30 days sorted by Popularity so every level is well made). Easy and Normal levels are levels that anyone could do. Expert aren't even that hard but a fun challenge. You can also choose a category (puzzle, speedrun, automatic, music, traditional, etc.), there's story mode which is great on it's own, new levels are usually pretty easy but not usually as good as By Popularity in Detailed Search or Hot tab or Popular Courses tab, online VS. mode is usually pretty challenging, but online Co-op isn't.

If you like someone's levels, you can favorite them and/or play all of their levels if you want, or play their Super World (a full game). You can decide to only play levels from Super Mario World if you want, or SMB3, or New Super Mario Bros., etc., or you can choose to only list Underwater levels, or Castle levels, or Sky levels, etc. And it shows a red flag on the corner of each level you passed, so you don't ever accidentally play repeats, plus there's over 32 million levels so no one is going to get bored or see it all.

There's also the Endless Challenge, which comes in Easy, Normal, Expert, or Super Expert and is fun to try for a personal high score. You can look at and draw pictures and read and leave messages for players in the Miiverse like comments in the levels that you can turn on optionally. The game keeps track of certain conditions, so the more World Records, 1st Clears, levels you pass or play, etc., gives you various achievements in the form of new clothes for your in-game mii. There's also the Ninji Speedruns which are fun to see how you measure up against other players from around the world to get fastest times. I've been playing since it came out, and still having a blast, seeing weird new never before seen things every day. It's the best game ever if you like 2d Mario.

I guess you can make your own levels if you want to, some people enjoy it, however to me it's just an incredible platforming game that never ends.

Re: Nintendo Announces Super Mario Sale, Wave One Starts This Week (Europe)

Nintendo_Thumb

@ATHFjman18 Why don't you just get it physically? Like you said, they don't undervalue their games soon after release like some companies so when you finish that game it will still be worth basically what you paid for it. You can get it used, play through the whole game, and then sell it back on ebay and it doesn't cost a cent. Even if you bought it new (why?), and sold it used, you'd only be down a few bucks.

Re: Random: Wait, Is Big Man’s Real Name ‘Ian’ In Splatoon 3?

Nintendo_Thumb

I don't get it. I had to see that a few times and read the article a couple times but still nothing. What evidence is there to suggest Big Man is Ian? He doesn't hang out with the Squid Sisters (he hangs out with Deep Cut). He only says one word in the game, and he's a manta ray, not a squid kid so he doesn't have any reason to sound like a squid. Just going off the evidence in the tweet, it's just as likely to be Sheldon, Judd, Jelonzo, or K.K. Slider.

Re: Video: Everything That Could Go Wrong With The Switch's Successor

Nintendo_Thumb

I'll buy it no matter what, but I really hope it's not just a copy of what I already have with better graphics. People don't buy Nintendo's for the graphics, at least I sure don't. I don't care if it only does 8 bit, as long as it's something interesting that hasn't been done before and with software that's made for it's unique architecture. There's still lots of room for growth, we're nowhere near seeing the height of advancement with this stuff. I already got a Playstation and a PC, gimme a crank, VR or something. I need a reason to want it, the Switch backlog is enormous, if it just plays the same old games in higher def with better fps, I think I'd rather just keep playing my Switch.

Re: Bowser Defends $70 Zelda Pricing, Nintendo Still "Very Bullish" About Switch

Nintendo_Thumb

Obviously they're going to do something different with their new console. People seem to think this is it every console generation, and every time they put out some strange new thing that usually becomes standard. It's a cool system, but it doesn't have a crank like a Playdate, nor built in VR like a Quest (the fps is too low to play comfortably currently), it's also only got 1 screen, whereas a wireless dongle connected to a TV as a second screen could be great.

Or how about those controllers that had the game and graphics showing on every part of the controller not just a rectangle. People are always complaining here about joycon drift, seems like a new controller should be cheered on, I don't personally have a problem with drift, but those controllers are really small and hurt my hands for some kinds of games. Also Nintendo has tons of R&D into 3d displays, that would be a nice addition to a hybrid device.

They have to offer something new, because better graphics isn't good enough to get everyone to want to upgrade especially when the Switch backlog is so enormous, and for many people it's a perfectly capable system with pretty good graphics as is.

Re: Every Yoshi Game Ranked

Nintendo_Thumb

I always feel like Super Mario Bros 2 should be mentioned with this since Yoshi's Island is basically the sequel, and Yoshi behaves like a cross between Luigi's extra jump height thing and Princess's float since they must have just wanted to get rid of the 4 player character select, and it's more streamlined having just one really good character.

Re: Rumour: New Switch Bundle Featuring Mario Movie Bonus Supposedly Launching "Soon"

Nintendo_Thumb

@AstroTheGamosian

I had the same thing happen to my launch model. I'd be playing some very non-taxing games like Mario Maker 2 and the fan would get real loud, didn't seem to matter what I played. Anyways, I kept playing like that trying to ignore it, and after a few weeks or so, the noise stopped. However, this was not good. I thought the problem had fixed itself somehow and was enjoying the silence but while recording Mario 3D World, and error popped up telling me that the system was overheating and going into sleep mode.

So everything was fine, it shut off before any damage could occur. Then I took it to a local game store and they fixed the fan for pretty cheap, and the thing seems to run like new.
