I love picross, but for the Switch I think I'll wait for something special. Either with a decent community for a level editor, or first-party Nintendo stuff, just something that places it above the free mobile game versions.
Honestly, the support this game has received is a big part of why I like it. I wish more devs would do this. Don't just publish and move on, publish and give it little bonuses every now and then to keep us coming back. Playing this game as Gunvolt feels like a whole different experience, and I love it for that. He was actually the reason I bought it in the first place.
May just be me, but ten bucks canadian for an old arcade game that was usually either a three buck impulse buy on 3DS or a free bonus with Mario GBA games is just pushing it. Bonus stuff or no, this is a pass for me. Bring on the N64 and Gamecube ports.
@Dreamcaster-X It is good for relaxing, yeah. I find the problem is that golden bricks are often chores to collect. If it gave you the option to create a world from the start it'd probably be a better game.
@Metroplex360 I picked it up on launch. I figured for thirty bucks I was willing to gamble, as I'm a fan of the premise and reviews were mostly decent. The real product however, while not actively bad feels very incomplete.
I've heard it's great, though I'll admit I'm reluctant to drop that much on a mobile game port. I dunno, I guess I've come to see mobile games as more budget games...
Don't see a reason to lie about it. It's not like console leaks or smash characters, not much exciting about a netflix app. I wouldn't be too surprised if it's true. Probably waiting for a slow release day to launch it so it doesn't distract from a big release.
@NintenNinja16 I'm always bugged by how the console versions refuse to crank up the texture resolution. If the system can run it, why not? Especially for texture packs like the ancient greece one that actually try to make interesting pictures out of the textures.
@Phantom79 It's far from rubbish, more just unfinished. I like it quite a bit, but I can't really say that the 100 golden brick quests have exactly been varied or interesting... Half of them have been either too bugged to do, or so stupidly easy that I could solve them with one use of a flatten tool.
Good God. I love the 3DS, but this really feels like too little too late. The Switch is just such a killer, it's made me totally abandon the PS Vita, 3 and 4 versions of Minecraft. Probably gonna pass on this one, or maybe pick up a demo just to see how they got it to run on the system.
Been playing this one lately. While I do generally like it as a relaxing collect-a-thon and exploration game I will say that it really feels unfinished. I know it was in open-beta for awhile, but it just needed another year in the oven.
@In_Ex_Fan Huh. Yeah, that's not normal for the system. If it acts up from regular use like that, no dropping, humidity damage, none of that, then that's a job for their support team. The machine is built to rest, if it can't do its job it'll be replaced.
@In_Ex_Fan "Not working properly"? How so? A system designed to be perpetually "on" even in rest mode shouldn't have issues arise when the user leaves it resting. If you're experiencing issues like that, I would definitely contact support. Besides, their support is amazing anyways. You could tell them your Switch broke while you were using it to hammer in a fence post and they'd probably still replace it free of charge.
@In_Ex_Fan Makes me a little curious just how much power rest mode actually consumes. I mean, my N3DS can go in sleep mode for what feels like forever, and my phone promises in rest mode it could go just short of a week.
@In_Ex_Fan I'm guessing you're going for a full power-down, not rest mode? You can enter rest mode anytime by holding down home and then hitting it in the quick-menu, but full power downs seem to be something Nintendo doesn't count on. It's like your smartphone, it's never really off.
Hardly "themed", more just slapped on the box. The card itself is just a Switch logo which I'll admit I wouldn't mind on my card, but I'm not exactly eager to swap out my super-affordable 200gb Sandisk card for a 128gb with a logo.
Really wanna get to Mario + Rabbids, but the combination of moving, college and a massive game backlog are making it hard to justify. Maybe in a few months.
I'm torn. On the one hand, I'm glad that they're letting us choose and would like this sort of thing to become more regular on Switch. On the other hand, right off the bat they're saying to pick either frame rate or graphics and run one at a sub-par level. It kind of makes it feel like the game wasn't originally developed for the Switch or something, y'know? Like it's a port of something for another system.
May be no switch tax, but it's still 55 bucks here in Canada. That's a lot for two old 3DS games, especially 3DS games that sell for about fifteen on their own. I was gonna buy this on launch, but now I think I'll wait for a sale.
Effectively captures what I like about Nintendo in the first place. Rather than directly competing they always side-step a direct graphics race and find some new reason to choose them. They're the light whipit in a pit of bull mastiffs.
Ooh, that's pushing it. The two products look vaguely similar. Well, to the Wii U. The mere idea of grafting a controller onto a system isn't anything that new. It's basically what the circle pad pro did.
Cleared all of the hero brella stages for this. Kind of dissapointing completionists couldn't get an early brella for multiplayer but I suppose it makes sense.
Gotta say, I hate having japanese news in my feed. Actually nuked the settings to be rid of it.
Generally, we shouldn't have all of the users meshed together anyways. You should turn it on, pick a user and then get that user's news, their eshop, their games, etc. This stupid system only makes things more difficult for the user in the end.
That's what's weird about the Switch. It's one of the coolest systems I've ever owned, but struggles with basic stuff like a browser, bluetooth headphones and a user system. It's like having a perfect golden retriever who poops gold and breathes minty fresh air, but also can't climb stairs, play fetch or eat dry food. Like, why?
This looks really interesting. I am curious though as to if it's procedurally generated, or has any sort of story involved. Personally I find the idea of a destructible pre-designed open world with regenerating features (As in, trees and stuff growing back over time but things the player builds staying) to be really interesting, especially if there were some sort of campaign to pursue within it.
Damn, that's a pretty effective trailer. Still though, I'm iffy on this kind of game. I really like roguelikes where I can slowly go for trophies or collect stuff, kinda like Rogue Legacy's constant castle building. If I can't bring something with me to my later runs though, I often find myself less invested in completing a solid run. Gonna wait on the review here and see if they mention any of that.
It's an interesting idea, but third party controllers, well... When you buy a dualshock, you know exactly what you're getting. Third party, not so much. I sometimes buy third party, but I rarely spend over thirty bucks on them (though to be fair, I actually prefer Rock Candy Xbox controllers to the official ones by a lot). It's a lot of money to drop on something that might just be a gimmicky laggard, or might have poor construction. You'd basically need to try one out before you know if you want it or not.
@NEStalgia I'll agree with you there, games as is don't seem supremely capable of handling sexual content. I'm currently playing through fate extella, and the occasional awkward steamy segmants have been thus far kind of, well.. Uncomfortable. That said, I feel like pushing XXX content into these back-alley industries like we've been doing is both silly, and unhelpful. Were a company to tank the stigma long enough for it to blow over, kind of like with itch.io there could be great rewards to be reaped (like the radiator games which while sexual are mostly meant to be comedic). It's happened on a smaller scale, and I'm always going to be bugged thinking that games are art, but art that isn't allowed to feature certain things these platform holders decide go too far. With my DVD player, it plays whatever I put into it be that Toy Story or A Serbian Film, and yet my consoles can be awfully nosy.
Banking on Batman, but to be honest I'd be happy re-buying a lot of games as ports on this thing. The Switch has kind of changed how I get through games now anyways, and fits better into my lifestyle. I've got time to play and re-play the titles I missed.
@Whimsy_Bomb There's a cooking-music one on the vita actually that's so absurd, it's actually kind of fun. It's not terribly long (One story mode run is like, a half hour) but I feel like it probably worked better than any of this. That said, it was still kind of horrible to watch.
@NEStalgia Oh I'm aware of that. Even then, they've been slowly loosening up with Binding of Isaac, Fate Extella, etc. Personally I think it's weird that none of these platforms make way for totally restricted games.
Like, why can people buy all sorts of violent or extremely sexual games on steam, but nothing straight-up pornographic? With film, we'd just keep adult videos behind a curtain (which makes sense) but with games, that whole market is kind of left out to dry. I don't think the switch would be a good platform for that kind of game anyways, given that it's portable and all but it's still weird to me to think that so many games could just completely fly past the ESRB just on the merits of showing a set of genitals.
@NEStalgia I more just meant non-family-friendly content. Personally I'd rather live in a world where we could just buy and sell 18+ games on the ehsop without any sort of issue, sort of like we do with movies. Watch Dogs 2 comes to mind, where a patch had to be released to hide a possible shot at a set of genitals. Ideally, a game should be allowed to feature whatever it likes and the eshop should simply not show it to kids in the eshop (which would be easy enough as it already knows their ages).
I find it hard to imagine anything resembling Splatoon 2's stable frame rate and presentation running on a phone without tremendous issues. Mobile devices lack dedicated power, they're constantly running background tasks. Not trying to console-war it, but I'm simply not looking at my phone and my Switch as equal gaming contenders.
This is pathetic. It's weird too, considering how awesome MIghty Gunvolt Burst was. Surprised they even wanted Beck in the game, he feels cursed now...
They certainly look cool, but I feel like they could use a small buff. The added range doesn't really help much when they cover so little, I find myself missing huge blotches of turf whenever I use them.
I'll probably pick it up, but I'll wait for a sale. I've gotten this one for about three bucks on PC, three on PS vita and four on PS4. I'm happy to double dip, it's a fun little sandbox to mess around in. That said, I won't be going for full price. I can be patient.
@shani No, they're just for fun. To unlock the weapons for online you need to beat each level once with them. It sounds nuts, but it's actually kinda fun because some of the levels adjust for your weapon choice (such as the 4th boss fight). It might be a chore for some people, but I'm enjoying it.
