It's about damn time. I still wish Nintendo would just let people buy these games and own them, but it's still nice for more people to have access to the original Pokemon Snap.
@Aurumonado USUM kinda feels like the final game in the mainline series. It's the last game to include a complete Pokemon experience. I personally prefer Legends Arceus, but I'll admit it still feels like a very low budget experience.
@Royalblues In the older games, the inclusion of the natdex was a post-game reward. Some of us like having more content to do after we knock out the Champion.
It also devalues your collection when you know your shiny mons might not be compatible with future entries. Part of the fun of older Pokemon is knowing that if you choose to, you can bring your pokemon from one gen to the next.
@Ravenmaster I still prefer the Pro controller in most cases, but I'll admit I really like the NSO SNES controller for delivering that otherworldly retro feel without sacrificing my hands. I never owned a SNES so I have no nostalgia for it, but it makes it easier to imagine what it must have been like to play these games when they were new.
At this point the bar is so low that I don't feel comfortable looking forward to this one anymore. I love Pokemon to absolute bits but it feels like they still haven't evolved past the 3DS era.
It seems like these refunds are easier said than done. I'm trying to go through Humble for mine, but as of now there's no easy way to get them done if it's been more than sixty days since the purchase.
@Caryslan I wouldn't be surprised if they took the opportunity to bump it off, unfortunately. Usually, they keep the multiplayer up for a few extra years, but this would make a good excuse to kill those servers all at once.
I'm a little surprised it wasn't already on there, given that it's on wii U, as well as pretty much any other platform. TWA is a classic, and everyone should play it.
Cloud gaming is a good idea for subscription stuff, but I don't like the idea of investing in a game that will effectively disappear as soon as copies stop selling and the servers are turned off.
I know the sequel is out and they want to push fans onto it, but these server shutdowns are a little early for a big publisher like Nintendo. It always sucks to be reminded that the games we love now like Splatoon 2 or SMM will be nuked as soon as they stop selling copies.
Looking forward to the complaints next year when people see All-Stars online, realize it's unavailable, and learn how to run emulators. Not sure how we can blame them at that point.
I'm enjoying these dream islands, though I think they really could have gone just a little farther with them. Being able to keep bugs or fish you catch, and invite friends to travel with you, would give us much more reason to explore other islands. I don't usually feel like I'm "playing" in dreams so much as just browsing the layout.
That's great and all, but I won't have company over any time soon so it makes more sense to buy on the platforms with built-in streaming or screen sharing support. I'll probably snag it on PC if one of my friends doesn't.
Misleadingly written. I know you want clicks, but Hyrule Warriors is as much a new Zelda as Mario Kart Tour is a new Mario. It's a fun little spin-off, but these games are Warriors wearing the skin of whatever franchise they cross over with.
@Wilforce Pretty much the only freemium games I ever spend cash on are Fortnite, Tf2, games I expect to be still around a decently long while from now. Nintendo's crappy track record with pulling the plug on any game that doesn't print money does not inspire me to be an early adopter of anything they put out.
Even with crap games like this one, shutting them down so quickly shakes my faith in IAPs for future Nintendo games. I'd be peeved if I were one of the whales who tried to collect those Pokemon.
@NookMiler Typically it's up to the companies selling the product to deal with scalpers, lest their core audience be unable to buy from them and lose interest. Often people forget that while "supply and demand" does apply, scalping and especially price gouging are abuses of the system and generally not allowed. If every product is being scalped, the system is not working as intended.
This game's "controversy" was entirely orchestrated by the publisher back in 2015 and it's annoying to see it cluttering up my news feed five years later. By no means should their crappy, edgy little game be censored. Hatred brings nothing new to any table.
We've had this option for ages. I dunno why they feel the need to treat a 7 day free trial like a reward. The service itself is barely worth it at 25 a year, equal to about fifty cents a week give or take.
@ijulesvel This isn't about the diversity of the audience, it's about the story being the lack of a comment. I generally like Nintendolife, but on slow news days, this site tends to just turn anything, be it tweets with a dozen likes or angry amazon reviews into stories and all they really do is clutter up the feed for the readers. If Nintendo had commented on this story, or if there was anything to be contributed in general, it would serve a purpose. As is, it's clutter.
Trying this out now, just for funsies. It's a cool theory, but it doesn't work quite as well as the article implies. You get a decent amount of tarantulas, but many more wharf roaches and unfortunately, tiger beetles can spawn without any parent objects so long as there's land.
Spider Island is a different beast from this, to be clear. Using a Nook miles ticket at night gives you a random chance of going to specific special islands, one of which features a moat with a smaller clump of land littered with ore boulders and guarded by tons of tarantulas. It's very deliberate, not randomized, and has been recorded by tons of different players by now.
This glitch is cool to go for, but the time it takes to pull off doesn't reward you with much. Wandering around trying to get them to spawn takes a good while. You could be up pretty late if you tried to fill your inventory this way.
Hopefully they can do some work from home, but I'd certainly hate for people to be rushed into work during a pandemic over something as non-essential as Animal Crossing. I hope there isn't too much pressure to work through it. We're really seeing the worst of many companies right now.
@zool The issue with buying physical is interacting with others. Deliveries are generally safe because they aren't exposed to crowds, and usually the virus won't survive transit. Ordering a game on Amazon is way safer than waiting in line. Ordering digital, while probably not your preference, is safer than going out and infects fewer people. I implore you to stay at home and flatten the curve.
Getting real tired of every dying business trying to justify staying open during a global pandemic cuz' they don't want to miss sales. I know plenty of you like physical games. There's a pandemic going on. Either buy it on Amazon or get a digital copy. This is not worth spreading a potentially lethal illness.
I know that most big fans playing on day 1 had to deal with this, but frankly I wasn't too bothered by it. It's tacky on the island, sure, but it makes more sense than starting with the museum and for most regular, non-obsessive players, it won't be a problem. It would have been nice to have a way to hand stuff off to the museum before he got there, but the little inconveniences are a part of what makes Animal Crossing feel alive.
@nab1 Oh yeah, Doom would be super fun with Splatoon-quality motion controls. I dunno if they could make it that good, but if they did it would definitely be a selling point. It just wouldn't be enough to cancel out the 30fps framerate for me. Doom is a game that really needs to feel as smooth as possible to work the way it does, at least for me.
I'm glad they're taking the port seriously, but I don't imagine it'll be a full 60FPS given that Doom 4 ran at 30. That's not bad, in fact it's super understandable, but if this is anything like Doom 4 then that frame rate is going to make a pretty huge difference. I'll probably be waiting a few months for a sale on PS4. I love playing games on my Switch, but I'm not sure portability beats frames in this case.
@johnvboy I've done the same, and the dialogue actually has them be surprised, then say "Oh... Well, I guess it's OK to be a bit more adventurous sometimes. That item's X bells. Sound good?" She acknowledges that it's unusual, but she's certainly not cruel. Mabel isn't used to it, but she's cool.
@mesome713 It's not really anti-science so much as a social thing, but I would like to see it become standard for games with avatar designs. It's fine if the protagonist is a relatively defined character, but if they're a blank slate make-your-own-hero type then I don't see much of an excuse to restrict stuff like hairstyles, especially if they're meant to resemble the players themselves.
@sanderev Well yeah, it's a two-way street. That said, you have to look at the "community" as individuals. You don't want to be carrying a grudge against the loudest members and then attributing that to just anyone LGBT.
@mesome713 This isn't even much of a statement. They've had genderless outfits in Animal Crossing for awhile now, and hairstyles needn't be gendered in the first place. It'd be nice for them to update a few existing games like Splatoon and un-restrict the cosmetics there too.
I don't think they had any gender locked stuff in New Leaf that I can recall, but I still wish this was more common. Gender-locking outfits and hairstyles in games feels really arbitrary.
@Euler New Leaf had that as an option, hopefully this one does too. They're nice, though they don't fit the aesthetic quite as well as traditional villagers.
I've actually really enjoyed their licensed picross games on the switch. They're really polished, and the IP doesn't distract from the puzzles at all. I'd love to see them do a One Piece Picross game in the same style as the Overlord one.
Kinda surprised it took this long to implement something like this, seems like it should be standard for most review sites.
I'm still baffled by how hard it is to find out how a game runs on Switch. If I want to buy say, Assassin's Creed, it should be super fast to find the frame rate, resolution and some notes on the general stability. That would be a great tidbit to have visible in each review.
@LUIGITORNADO I would assume the reason is that it's a visual novel without a whole lot going for it, rather than a game with anime designs. This is hardly the first time this site has shared pictures of anime, nor the most explicit. Plenty worse than this gets pushed out and covered on Nintendolife year after year, albeit generally aimed towards a male, teenage audience. It's kinda telling that this is where you draw the line.

I think these make more sense for retro titles and collections purchased from the eshop than the rinky-dink game dump that is NSO.
