If you took a look at the headline and wondered, “What on Earth is Virtuos?”, you’d be forgiven for not recognizing the studio, but it turns out that it actually has a significant amount of pedigree behind it. Virtuos is a studio that works primarily with porting popular games to new consoles, and has Batman: Return to Arkham, Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Collection, Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, and several other high-profile games to its name. And now, it seems that the studio is busy at work on a game for the Switch
An eagle-eyed member of NeoGAF spotted a developer profile on LinkedIn for Xiaoyu Yang—the team’s senior programmer—and a portion of it refers to a Switch project that is being labelled a work in progress. That’s all that we know for now, and it’s anybody’s guess as to what it could be, but perhaps one of the projects mentioned above is being worked on for the Switch. Yang only joined the studio in March, although it’s not known if this project had been in the works prior to his arrival or after. Regardless, we’re sure to find out what this is soon enough.
What do you think? What could the project be? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

My money's on Batman. We already got Arkham City last gen, and that would probably be a quick and simple job. Plus, who the heck wouldn't want two Arkham games on the go?
Port FF XII The Zodiac Age to Switch and I will Gleefully jump from ps4 to Switch !
Hehehe....
@SwitchVogel I think it's going to be the ezio trilogy due to Ubisofts comments and their love for quick ports.
FF12 wouldn't be bad, the game ran on a freaking ps2 for cripes sake!
Batman Return to Arkham would be great to have on Switch but I've read both games are inferior to the last gen versions . Improved graphics that ruin the dark atmosphere and a dodgy framerate and graphical glitches.
Like Faint said above, my money is on the Ezio Trilogy . I've never played an Assassins Creed game so that would interest me more than Batman.
Of all the Wii U games I wanted but didn't get Both Batman's and Deus Ex were the only 3 I missed. I will gladly buy Batman if this is true this time around.
I will double dip on Batman or would love Final Fantasy 12
I want to know what game this is so we know if it meets @gatorboi352 's standard for being AAA.
I'd take new versions of all of those, honestly! Batman, FF12, an AC collection, or anything else they can dream up! The Switch and its portability make ports a much more intriguing prospect to me than they normally would be when they're just a minor facelift.
Desert Bus
If it's any of the above mentioned games it will be a nice addition to the Switch library. As I've been saying all along great games are great games regardless of whether it's 30 years old or a port from another system- whatever it may be. Bring it on- Switch needs games and needs variety
@faint Would buy, but I still wish the first game was accessible outside 7th gen. I already have two AC titles gathering dust because of my whimsical hope to binge the series properly... XD
Right... about... now.
We're gonna start seeing a mad dash of developers rushing to cash in on the Switch's unexpected (at least partially) rise to glory.
Thanks to Wii U there was a hesitation, but I think that's all but worn thin at this point.
Dark Souls collection perhaps? There have been rumours in the past.
@Nolan420 The Wii U had 2 AC games. It launched with a dodgy port of 3 and then received a decent port of 4 the next year.
@PanurgeJr you should know by now that every AAA game coming to Switch will stop qualifying as AAA. Switch has no games, after all. Woe betide those who forget this.
Please be Dark Souls Trilogy!
Final Fantasy XII on Switch would be the most amazing hypothetical option based on the portfolio examples in this article. Set to grab it almost day one on PS4, I ultimately held out in wait and hope because the sheer amount of stuff to do in the game frankly felt a bit intimidating for a playthrough tied to 4G signal and mobile data plan - and unlike a bunch of modern action-adventure games, I doubt it necessarily offers a quick save option.
But I won't bother guessing for now. Keep in mind that we may not know all the staff involved with the announced ports - maybe Virtuos are the very guys currently working on Steep or something like that?
God i hope it's not the batman collection. That HD version they did was just awful.
@VoodooTrumpet splitscreen multiplayer at long last.
@Nin10outof10 now that you mention it... the developers did talk about successfully getting DS3 to run on Switch and considering a trilogy re-release a while ago...
Please be The Zodiac Age. That would be awesome on the Switch.
I'm curious, what exactly defines a AAA title? Is it just budget and graphics alone, even if the game is crap or is it more than that? How can something like Dark Souls be classed as AAA but not Splatoon? Or Mortal Kombat but not ARMS. I would bet as much work ,if not more went into both Nintendo titles.
Betting on a HD Remaster that hasnt been announced yet.
Yet the Switch is easy to port to but I think it might be a little late for those Arkham and AC collections. FFXII maybe but we've yet to see Square's FF Switch plans so we'll see.
Think a new collection that comes to all systems at once sounds more likely. Just a question of what could it be....
It's obviously Knack 2 guys
@PanurgeJr I'm just flattered to be on your mind <3
(Ironically it's probably going to be a game that fits my definition of what a AAA game is)
Oh my... more games. With school, I won't be able to play all of them!
Mario + Rabbids
Rayman legends
Lego worlds
Mario odyssey
FE Warrior
Xenoblade 2
Resident evil
Not to mention games I still want to play that are already out.
Hope this is true though, Batman and FF12 would be a warm welcome!
@SwitchVogel Yes, the Arkham games are one of my top requested games. That and: Metal Gear Saga, Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, and Platinum Games (TMNT and Transformers). I know that TMNT did not do well but we can't just be content with Turtles in Time.
Schrodinger's Switch: when a console both has "third party AAA support" and "no third party AAA support"
I hope this news leads to success for Virtuos, and convinces other companies to bring their games to the Switch!
@SomeWriter13 Funny, I just learned about Schrodingers Cat the other day.
It'll be something good like batman or bio shock or something poo like Sonic. No middle ground.
Gimme le Batman or le Final Fantasy. Any is ok. I'd love the complete Arkham series on the go though
@Rika_Yoshitake It did, but they would have to increase resolution / texture res significantly.
FF X/X2 remake would be my favourite.
<chants> Injustice 2, Injustice 2, Injustice 2
@Aaron09 School? What grade are you in? (I won't obviously ask the age but just wanna know your grade).
@Timppis
FF X/X-2 HD Remaster , World of Final Fantasy & FF XII The Zodiac Age are Wonderful Combo to be ported.
PACMAN DELUXE EDITION
Seriously, i dont expect too much now in term of thrid party AAA games ...
Heck, I'll even take a port of Arkham Asylum or an older Assassin's Creed game that didn't hit the Wii U. The possibilities are wide.
Has to be either Batman or Final Fantasy imo
Literally anything is possible lol
If I could have anything it would be Metal Gear Solid 5
But it's not that, there's no way in heck it's that. So I guess Witcher 3?
Oh? It's also not that? I don't care, surprise me I guess
@nhSnork
FFXII The Zodiac Age has an autosave take place everytime you enter an area, so you can use that as a sort of quick save. Not sure what your mobile data has to do with the game though.
Not entirely excited, as Return to Arkham on the PS4 had sub 30 fps graphics.
Flicker flicker flicker BATMAN!!!
@OorWullie I think when people say AAA, they usually refer to third party AAA games, as most "big" first party titles (read: Splatoon and Arms but not Box Box Boy) for any console are implied to be AAA as well.
@PLATINUM7
Eh ?! Really ??
FF XII The Zodiac Age has Auto Save feature ?
Great !
So, The Blue or Orange Crystal for saving are optional now.
If it's the Ezio Collection I'm buying it in a heartbeat.
@PanurgeJr Oh your so bad
AC Black flag would be a fantastic port , i would buy that to play on my commute fo sho.
Oh no, not Virtuos. They're rubbish, all their ports have been rushed and look much worse than the originals in many ways. Not to mention the terrible frame rates.
While I'd love to get the first two Arkham games on the Switch, I can easily see Virtuos turning in something that runs terribly and still runs at 720p when docked.
Banking on Batman, but to be honest I'd be happy re-buying a lot of games as ports on this thing. The Switch has kind of changed how I get through games now anyways, and fits better into my lifestyle. I've got time to play and re-play the titles I missed.
How about the Bioshock Collection? That'd be cool on Switch!
Hmm, I don't know.
The old AAA games that were interesting to me i have already played.
Not sure, if i would buy a switch port.
Maybe, if they could port some old exclusives to the new console the way platinum games does atm. That would excite me more i think.
Come on Assassins Creed!
My bet is for GTA V.
Xenoblade Chronicles HD?...............................please?
Batman: Return to Arkham please
I still just want an eventual Switch port for Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy.
Adding Crash to the already expansive list this year of Super Mario Odyssey, Rayman, Sonic Forces and Mania, Yooka-Laylee, and eventually Kirby and Yoshi, the Switch could be the definitive platforming experience! That's not even counting all the indie platformers on the console.
Ff for switch please!
I would double dip on Batman. Arkham Asylum is a ton of fun.
I played their Batman collection on the PS4 Pro so unlike some have said they ran perfectly well for me and were a marked improvement over the originals visually. If it were to be an Assassins Creed game the only one I'd want is Black Flag 😃
Hopefully something good.
@OorWullie "I'm curious, what exactly defines a AAA title? Is it just budget and graphics alone, even if the game is crap or is it more than that?"
Budget, the size of the development team, part of the team developing the script and the cinematics.
That's why it's hard to define the last Zelda as a AAA. It's been developed by a team of 300 people and it sure qualifies for a AAA but it has very few narration, I doubt they had a team developing it. It's a game of pure game design and level design. I think that's why it got so much high score. It feels like an outlier compared to other AAA.
Everyone is so happy about ports... we've got used to the idea of getting old games on Switch, we don't even care paying full price for it. Pay premium so you can play everywhere... I think I am going to save up for a Max-Q laptop.
Cool. I loved the Batman games, the Final Fantasy remake I heard was pretty good, and I'm one of the few out there who doesn't hate Assassin's Creed. Let's hope it's something good!
@Yasaal college
Wouldn't surprise me if it's the Ezio Collection, but I'm crossing my fingers for Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, which would be perfect for the Switch!
A BioShock Collection is something I've been asking for since the Switch launched. It'd just be perfect.
I still love Batman too but I don't know if I'm as keen on replaying those, though I haven't played Arkham Knight yet.
Anything Final Fantasy is basically an instabuy.
FFXII Zodiac, please. Haha
Return to Arkham is 47gb on PS4, if they are porting that to Switch I hope everyone has enough storage.
@Reignmaker The Bioshock Collection on PS4 is on two Blu-ray discs. We're talking upwards three digit GB storage here. I find it very unlikely that we'll be getting those on a single cart, or even as a download only considering the space restrictions on the Switch.
I'd love to be proven wrong, but I just don't see it happening.
@NicolausCamp Yeah, you could be right. But I figure if they were able to get the first Bioshock game on the iPad at one point, I'm sure with a little motivation they could optimize the collection for the Switch.
@OorWullie I would classify Splatoon as AAA. To me, its far more than realistic graphics or even spending hundreds of millions on development. I feel like depth and passion play just as much an important role as graphics. Probably more so. And name recognition play into it as well. I would consider Splatoon to be fairly known in the community at this point, regardless of whether you played or own a Nintendo console. Movies would be a prime example. Ant Man was made for considerably less than The Avengers, but is still considered just as much a summer blockbuster as the latter
@bitleman I don't think there is any debate. BoTW is a AAA game. Its a main title Zelda game (an iconic, AAA franchise). Its extremely well made and huge both in scale and in its coverage. Its even helped to move a new console.
OMG a portable FFXII would be HEAVEN!!
@nhSnork I think you nailed it! It's got to be Steep. That makes perfect sense and I didn't think about that possibility until you posted it. Like the others, I was thinking of Batman or Assassin's Creed.
@Reignmaker I think Bioshock would sell on the system because of the lack of presence on past Nintendo systems. The original Bioshock is one of my favorite games of all time. I personally wouldn't buy it again though. There are too many games to play and not enough time.
I agree that any Final Fantasy game would sell crazy amounts on Nintendo systems. I can't understand why Square doesn't get it.
I'd love the Enzo collection on the switch.
@Aaron09 Oh ok. Pardon me for asking
@Yasaal No big deal
Teasers has caused me to have to up my anxiety medications. Batman, AC, FFVII and other ports are all welcome.
@Nolan420 WiiU had two Assassins Creed games. ACIII and then Black Flag i believe. Never really liked the AC games personally so not really interested if it is the collection
@Ichiban I would buy those games again no problem. From Software games on the Switch would be fantastic. Just as much as anything by Platinum Games for me
I hope this isn't most of the games being listed. It needs to be very recent or people will already own it. Part of the reason publishers stopped porting to Wii u is that consumers already had the game on another console.
Think about it. 60m ps4s have been sold. Plus about 20-30m Xbox one's. The Switch is a second console for people. If they wanted to play Batman, most people would have bought it already. Yes there will be some new users and some double dippers but it's just going to flop.
FF12 might be slightly different because it's still very early on in the games life and people might be waiting for a price reduction or to finish another game maybe.
The Arkham Collection would be nice if they get it running properly. The PS4 version is dreadful but I'm putting that down to an extreme rush job of a conversion. There's no reason Switch can't run them.
However, one that would make total sense-Assassin's Creed Rogue.
I'm guessing Batman. I'd love to get it but I just finished Arkham City ... I'll have to see how it stacks up to the other versions I suppose.
I reckon it's Dragon Quest XI.
FFXII HD would be amazing on Switch. Especially given that its sequels, FFTA2: Grimoires of the Rift and FFIX: Revenant Wings, are exclusive to Nintendo.
@OorWullie cosmic trigger trilogy by Robert Anton Wilson......be careful
@PLATINUM7 mobile data has a lot to do with my ability to play PS4 games with relative consistency since my routines and schedules leave no time for PC or home console games. I only invested in a PS4 due to Vita's Remote Play function, but since my city's wifi hotspots are relatively sparse and unfitting (in most cases, you can't even connect a console to them - identification procedures are forced through specific browser pages alone), tethering my phone's 4G is the only way to go. And with RP syphoning up to 1.5 Gb/hour, that's an extra expense I need to keep in mind.
Mobile signal is another factor, of course - for instance, I can't use RP on a subway ride. In fact, since the system can't reconnect by itself (and establishing a connection is the most tedious part), I can't treat an RP PS4 game in the same reliable play-interrupt-resume fashion as portable games proper, and if I don't save at once, the progress will hang there back at home at the mercy of possible power outages and whatever other incidents. Bless the titles like Dishonored which allow saving almost anywhere in a couple seconds, but not everything's as cooperative.
At least I can thank you for good news about FFXII - location change autosave isn't the most reliable solution, but it's much better than nothing.
