@Jester676 I never suggested otherwise. I only stated Palworld wasn't some brilliant and original idea.
It just took several existing ideals and combined them competently while using the popularity of Pokemon to launch itself.
I'm not saying that's exactly wrong. I mean the fact they actually copied other games well shows a fair bit of skill compared to devs that copy other games and completely fail.
I'm more ... Neutral in terms of my opinion. I find them a bit shameless in how they blatantly leveraged Pokemon but try to act like they didn't ... But I also think they did a good job in making a game people enjoyed. The game may not have original elements, but it still made a fun copy which is more than most copies do.
So I don't curse Palworld's existence, but I don't praise it either.
Again what turns me off from Palworld is more it's community that I just overall find annoying. Not that Pokemon fans are all saints mind you. But I just dislike the overall Palworld fan base so I just have no interest in the game.
@Jester676 here is the thing. Palworld doesn't have a "why didn't we think of that" element.
When you break it down Palworld's entire appeal is that it's basically Pokemon but with guns, slave labor, and is unapologetically dark with a cute art style.
That is not something Pokemon could do without making it's brand not family friendly.

@JohnnyMind although either way dr.mario was far from the first Tetris clone anyway and it wasn't anything significant. It was just a minor Tetris clone with a mild spin on it.
The thing is Tetris itself is so basic that anything at all in the same idea looks like a copy.
At the very least I mostly see it as different from copying a distinct look and feel of a game when you absolutely didn't have to in order to make the desired game.
Any falling block puzzle will look like Tetris. But every creature capture.RPG doesn't need to look like Pokemon. In fact plenty don't, like Tem Tem.
@OwenOtter dude calm the heck down. It wasn't even that it was a political quote ... More just Nazi related quotes are so aggressively overdone they are generally the cheap ones.

In fact the reason I don't like Palworld has less to do with the game and more how toxically defensive it's fan base is.

They point to a bat monster and go "that's Zubat" even when said bat monster looks completely different. Or they point to a tree monster and claim that's trevenent ... @OwenOtter oh do NOT try to use the damn Nazi quote as if that applies.
Look you already mentioned the Nemesis system issue yourself. Can we stop always trying to act like Nintendo is some kind of Vanguard of the gaming apocalypse?
Nintendo may be big but they aren't the definitive authority on all things gaming. Things will happen with or without them.
Like people trying to crucify Nintendo over Mario kart world. No Nintendo is not "opening the flood gate". If you actually payed attention, games have been edging $80 for a while and most AAA games have skirted around it with day 1 payed dlc and deluxe edition with game changing bonuses.
So the reality is most gamers have been paying $80 or more for major AAA games for a while now. But everyone wants to act Like Nintendo is some kind of Vanguard of game prices.
Again same things here. People have sued over game mechanics for ages. Luckily a lot don't succeed but plenty do for one reason or another. Nintendo succeeding won't change anything major.
@Glasso are you serious with that? Non of those designs look stolen from dragon quest beyond a concept level. Like some sort of purple bat thing. Or some type of blue dragon.
It's entirely possible Pokemon devs got some ideas from monster quest. But you can't seriously call those stolen designs.
Meanwhile Palworld has things like Egyptian Lucario and everyone can see it at a glance. It's not just a similar concept of a bipedal dog, it's basically Lucario.
Now I won't completely hate on Palworld. They do have some designs that don't feel like Pokemon that are decent. But a lot of their most popular designs feel plucked straight from Pokemon.
Besides you can't pretend like literally everyone calling it "pokemon with guns" at a glance was only because Pokemon is well known.
Again I'm fine with Palworld existing and I don't think they did quite enough to get sued. But I also don't feel a ton of sympathy for them when they blatantly tried to piggy back off pokemon. They didn't steal from other series like Digimon or dragon quest.
THe only way I could see this make sense would be if the new "Virtual card" system is meant to take over save storage and it's not TECHNICALLY cloud saving or at least not cloud saving tied to NSO.
That being said I hope they didn't do something dumb like forget to let people transfer their existing cloud saved to the new system if that's the case.
@StewdaMegaManNerd It makes me laugh when people talk about the vaguely announced hand held Xbox like it's going to be a Switch killer.
Even if you put terrible Xbox sales aside ... What games does Xbox even have left that can't be played on steam?
Because if you want to take Xbox games on the go you can really just get a steam deck. Barely any Xbox games don't have a steam port.
But people want to act like a wannabe steam deck made by Microsoft is going to move that needle in their favor.
P.S. I don't hate Xbox ... But Microsoft really just turned it into a gaming PC and gave up their exclusives. So as a console Xbox is kinda dead. Because it's company doesn't even really need it.
@commentlife given the number of free repairs they did for a long time I can say they almost certainly didn't sell enough additional joy cons to be worth making that issue on purpose.
especially given people just buy extra joy cons when they break them some other way or when new colors they want come out.
I know people don't trust a lot of companies these days for good reason ... but that doesn't mean EVERYTHING is a lie and conspiracy.
There is no way they risked the entire Switch just to try to boost joycon sales. THere are so many less risky and more promising ways to profit and get money from Nintendo customers that aggresive planned obselesence.
IMO it really was just a design flaw that wasn't noticed until it was too late and Nintendo just refuses to address it properly for legal reasons.
But honestly Joy con drift did become less common as time went on so they defininitely did some tinkering behind the scenes and with the Switch 2's joycons completely rebuilt from the ground up, supossedly, they probably accounted for that issue this time.
@Oldstalk Exactly. Everyone just started worshiping "hall Effect" and acted like it's an absolute requirement.
People also acting like it's somehow guaranteed Drift will be a problem without it.
Did everyone get amnesia and forget drafit wasn't a massive issue BEFORE the Switch? And those past consoles didn't have drift issues.
Why is it so utterly impossible to imagine that they just fixed the design flaw without hall effect? I swear my opinion of a good chunk of the gaming community has gone down a lot with how absolutely rabbid some have been acting like it's their life's purpose to spread as much negativity as possible.
I know there have already been people like that, but it just feels especially aggresive this time.
@Baker1000 I'm sure Lakitu will still exist in cases you actually do get out of bounds for.
But they needed to do something for the open world format where you get off track. Since off track isn't always out of bounds for the race anymore but you could still be screwed.
So I don't think it's outright replacing Lakitu, it's just a clean and efficient way to deal with the issue of trying to do Mario Kart with an open map format like this.
Sure they could have had you summon your own Lakitu, but that would take more time to let the animtion play. Nintendo probably figured players reseting their own mistakes would prefer to get into the race as fast as possible. and honestly they were probably right.
@bleeflooflah the direct may have not given much purely new info.but it did confirm quite a few things. 1. It's confirmed you can race classicaly and choose tracks freely instead of being bound to cups. Some people thought everything would be tied to the open world so being able to just pick tracks and race is good. 2. Unlocked outfits are just added to the select screen. A bit disappointing as that's going to be a pain to navigate. 3. The lack of kart customization is part of the game and not a limitation of the demo. 4.battle modes are still a thing. 5. We got an indepth look into free roam mode including stuff we didn't know before
Overall there was maybe .... 5 minutes of actual new info. But making a direct for just one game was already a bit extra.
@BANJO I'd less thank EA themselves and more thank Hazelight for creating such a robust game sharing system that it can easily just make use of Switch 2's gameshare.
But seriously this is neat and I'd love to see more Switch 2 games make use of the switch as a second screen.
In fact an idea this game me is a stripped down Switch that is just the screen and wifi components. Meaning cheaper than a switch but able to receive screen share.
Most people should already have a switch they can use. But just in case they don't this would help use the function without buying two consoles.
@Diaclone_Dad fair ... But do keep in mind. Developers have said the regular Steam sales are sometimes a problem. Because people just wait for sales so no one buys it full price.
I mean I love a good steam sale ... But it's not really realistic to expect the same with Nintendo ... Although it wouldn't kill them to offer a few more sales and improve their store front.
Anyway good luck. If you want the Switch 2 now though you could just buy it as a hardware upgrade for Switch and try getting games at resell discounts later. Until then just play Switch 1 games better.
Or wait. Up to you but thought I'd suggest the option.
@Chlocean IMO there just wasn't much to innovate on that fans wanted. Switch 1 sales are not only going strong but Sony and Microsoft are trying to copy it.
It would be downright stupid to give up the switch concept right now. Meaning any innovation has to fit in the switch.
They added a mouse and game chat. Adding much else like a second screen or a new controller would have raised the cost even higher or made or not able to play switch 1 games.
So I wouldn't say innovation is dead. Just there wasn't much room to do so this generation. Maybe if VR gets a bit better they'll release a VR headset... I mean a real one not Labo.
@Diaclone_Dad keep in mind the average game will probably be more like $70 physical and $60 digital.
So if you either stay away from big games or just splurge only on a couple of big ones or go full digital then your overall spending shouldn't be much more than before.
Even if $80 is the actual norm, which I doubt, getting it for $70 digital won't be that bad. It's not a perfect situation but everything is more expensive so sadly I have to accept this was just going to happen.
Let me translate "Nintendo didn't do any wildly creative and innovative new concepts for us to steal and we really need something to convince players to not just get a steam deck or PC since we barely have any exclusives."
Seriously I can't take criticism of innovation seriously from Sony of all people. Even Xbox innovated more than them ... Their innovations just weren't worth stealing so Sony didn't care.
But really Nintendo had little choice this generation. The switch already has motion control support. The switch is already portable. They tried 3d and no one cared. VR still isn't really ready to be a main feature.
What innovation could Nintendo realistically do? Best they could do would be a completely reworked controller but that would make playing Switch 1 games harder.
It's not bad to iterate on hardware instead of completely reinventing it. It's a solid upgrade in every sense of the word and they made an effort to add a chat service and mouse controls.
If you want Nintendo innovation there it is. Every one else added a track pad to their controller ... Nintendo said "nah we making a mouse instead". It's a subtle innovation but it's still there.
I think it will be fine. Stick drift was less common as time went on anyway. So if they improved them further then they'll.probably be fine.
Like a few others have said they might simply not be saying the words hall effect for liability reasons or just wanting to use their own variant that they gave their own name and treating it as secret tech.
It's also possible the magnetic connectors made them unable to also use hall effect and they chose improved connection over hall effect.
However I've heard at least one leaker claims to have seen inside one and seen what looked like hall effect so unless they lied that is supposedly confirmed.
We'll have to wait and see but I doubt it will be a notable issue.
I'm sad but not entirely surprised Kirby air riders isn't listed. People are probaygoing to compare it to Mario Kart and sleep on it. But it's an entirely different kind of game with the best mode on the OG game being a kind of battle Royal like game.
@Quarbit the problem is that it's gotten worse to the point of it becoming near impossible to get things even 6+ months in some cases. Because the scalpers just just buy up the stick every time there is a restock.
Plus we simply shouldn't have to wait or pay extra. Which is why people need to stop ***** paying the scalpers already.
@eltomo the physical switch 2 editions are just upgraded to optimize the switch 1 game for switch 2. To use the new tech properly. It's essentially a rerelease of the base game without charging for the full game again.
So it actually makes sense to not include the dlc. This isn't a definitive edition, it's just an upgrade. Some even come with their own dlc like Kirby getting an entire post game.
People complaining about this aren't thinking about it properly. They're looking at switch 2 editions like definitive editions. Those typically include the dlc for free in order to encourage people to get the game again or encourage new customers. You don't have to buy the entire game again.
@N00BiSH This is a comment complaining about comments complaining about the price of Mario Kart World.
Jokes aside I only started to care about Mario Kart due to a few streamers playing it regularly with viewer. But as a result I did start to enjoy the game a bit and the wall riding and rail grinding look like they'll add a lot. Plus now I can just drive around and not exclusively race against others.
@Narrator1 I like the steam deck because I love the switch but there are Non Nintendo games I very much want to play.
So I got the steam deck, not to replace the switch, but to play all of the other games I wanted on a handheld like the switch. Plus I needed to replace my old gaming PC anyway... So getting a steam deck instead just made more sense.
@BrokenCiv exactly. Switch 2 is no slouch and if a game is available on both I might have to think about which is prefer ... Although the fact steam made it clear we don't own ***** ... Kinda leaning switch 2.
But aside from that, you get a switch to play switch games and steam deck to play PC
There are a lot of games that will never be on the switch. And a lot of games that will never legally be on steam deck.
So neither is going to kill the other because no one's going to abandon the games they like for hardware.
Doesn't matter which is objectively better if it doesn't have the games you want to play.
@Alpha008 same. Switch 2 comes with decent memory to hold a good few games. With the "virual card" system to better manage digital downloads I can just "Slot in" as much as the system will allow and remove what's not needed.
I can easily get by without more storage for a while.
Okay people don't panic YET. Is Donkey Kong Bonanza. A 3D platform launch title with one of the oldest mascots is $70 then $80 may not be normal and might even just be for Mario kart.
Possibly other large scale games as well but we don't have to assume that will be the price of all games since we already know of one not that price.
@RupeeClock it's say less "cut out" since it's not like that stuff will go away even if they wanted it to.
I see it as more them not wanting to be dependent on other companies.
Think about it, if Google one day said "Nintendo. Do what we say or well block all Nintendo content ... They'd be in a rough spot. We've already seen that happen with some credit card companies making demands or cutting off payments to site and services they"won't support".
So this could be Nintendo just making sure they have a news pipeline they control.
@ArcadeSixties It's not cherry picking there is a difference. Although the divide is a bit grey so it's a bit of nuace.
The simplest way to put if something is a "copycat/ripoff" or "inspired by" is one simple question "How similar is the game if you remove genera norms?".
I specify genera norms because obviously every fighting game will have certain elements that are similar given they're all fighting games.
But anyone pretending Multiverse wasn't like ... 70% smash bros is coping. Why? Because no one, NOT A SINGLE PERSON. Looked at Multiverse and thought of any other game but Smash Bros. They didn't think of street fighter, or Tekken, or any other fighting based game. That proves how heavily similar the game was to Smash Bros specifically.
and really this new revelation only proves they were doing it intentionally. You can try to pretend they were just "heavily inspired" by Smash Bros and just wanted to make their own platform fighter that played almost identically .... but you can't seriously believe they just happened to only be inspired by mario Kart at the EXACT SAME TIME AND MADE THE GAMES IN PARALLEL!!!
Seriously for anyone that ever tried to play defense for Multiverse and claim it was just innocent inspiration ... this just definitely proved them wrong.
Now that's not to say Multiverse wasn't fun. it was a competent copycat unlike most like Sony's attempt with "All star Crawl" or that barely okay Nickelodeon knock off.
So to give the devs credit they were absolutely competent at copying Nintendo's homework. But they were still ABSOLUTELY and without question ... copying Nintendo's homework specifically. As for TUNIC, aside from some visual elements it's a completely different game from Zelda witch a heavy focus on cryptic puzzles that even requires a bit of metagaming to solve. So that is very much in the realm of "inspired by" because they didn't take anything from Zelda but a bit of art inspiration and even that isn't a 1 to 1 copy.
Nintendo needs to either settle with them or pull out a serious smoking gun to better validate the lawsuit.
I mean they aren't even going after then over blatantly ripped off designs and at this point the PR over the situation isn't great.
Plus ... If I'm being totally honest. Palworld does have some interesting designs. I mean aside from the lazy rip offs.
Although I guess Nintendo could always reverse rip Palworld off and watch the haters lose their minds trying to use the same arguments they dismissed before.
I'm glad they removed blade levels. Too much crap to manage was annoying. But I wish they'd given each division a buff so it wasn't entirely reduced to meaningless visual flair. Like maybe interceptors get bonus exp from battles while Pathfinder's get bonuses from exploration.
Removing all value from divisions was a bad call IMO. But I guess it's hard to complain when they already remade this huge ass game and improved so much of it.
@StewdaMegaManNerd I heard he did. In his defense Inafune pushed for embracing the west mostly at a time where Western game development was flourishing far better than Japan which has fallen into a bit of a rut.
Big companies like Sega were collapsing. Companies were moving to silicon valley.
Really there was a point you could argue Inafune had a point. But then ... Stuff happened... And now game development is moving out of the west.
@RareFan well comics used to be more varied. But DC and Marvel dominated the field much that it largely fell under them. Other comics do exist but they aren't given public attention.
But we do have plenty more than action flicks. Although the MCU has caused action to dominate more than ever. Horror and comedy still have decent followings.
Overall it's not that our tastes are limited. It's the monopoly of companies like Disney has caused most high budget productions to fall under them and they care about profit over entertainment so they just make the same stuff over and over.
That's why anime and such is so popular. We want that stuff but the big companies here won't give it to us.
@BenAV Xenoblade on the 3ds isn't a 10. They did their best but it's frankly way too crunched. Plus it lacks the definitive versions improvements so in comparison it's even worse.
Xenoblade is great but the 3ds version is easily the worst one.
@Ultimapunch I feel the only people surprised are those that don't realize Nintendo still makes at half a dozen or so new amiibos every year. Their demand isn't like it was at launch but it's still pretty big. When Xenoblade 3 amiibos of Noah and Mio were released the Nintendo store was crashing from the traffic.
So Amiibos are still big profits for Nintendo. They just focus on particular figures rather than mass producing as many as possible.
@Pillowpants they can't stop it but if you don't at least try to deal with it it only gets worse.
Like you can't stop the drug trade, but that doesn't mean you just let people sell meth on public street corners. You want to at least suppress it so it's not easily available.

Re: Uh Oh, It Looks Like Select Switch 2 Games Won't Support Cloud Saves
@WiltonRoots Interesting. I was a somewhat late adopter of the Switch.
I had largely drifted away from mario games and RPG franchises like Xenoblade were still niche and not even on the system at launch.
Plus the failure of the Wii U made me take more of a "wait and see" approach.
But seeing people fuss over the price then is definitely telling.
Re: Uh Oh, It Looks Like Select Switch 2 Games Won't Support Cloud Saves
THe only way I could see this make sense would be if the new "Virtual card" system is meant to take over save storage and it's not TECHNICALLY cloud saving or at least not cloud saving tied to NSO.
That being said I hope they didn't do something dumb like forget to let people transfer their existing cloud saved to the new system if that's the case.

Re: Japanese Charts: Mario Party Jamboree Rolls Its Way To Another Victory
Re: Feature: The Switch 2 Sticks Might Not Be Hall Effect, But They Feel Fantastic
Re: Feature: The Switch 2 Sticks Might Not Be Hall Effect, But They Feel Fantastic
Re: You'll Want To Learn These New Mario Kart World Tricks If You Hope To Win
Re: You'll Want To Learn These New Mario Kart World Tricks If You Hope To Win
@Baker1000 the rewind is basically your own personal lakitu that you activate on command.
Because everything is drivable now there are less clearly defined "off track" points.
Rewind is probably mostly to save yourself if you drive off track.
Re: Mario Kart World Brings Back Another Fan-Favourite Mode
@DanijoEX-The-Kumiho I'm sure they will. They made a giant canvas of a game. Unless the game failed to find players they wouldn't abandon it.
Re: Mario Kart World's 'Free Roam' Is Much More Than Mindless Open World Driving
Re: Switch 2 Split Fiction Owners Can Apparently Use GameShare To Invite Nintendo Switch Players
Re: Sony Vet Shuhei Yoshida Says Nintendo Is "Losing Their Identity" With Switch 2
Re: Mario Kart World "Paid DLC" Would Be A Big No-No, According To Ex-Nintendo Duo
@astrogamer but mario kart 8 deluxe itself was a port. So you could say the dlc was where the bulk of the switch original content was.
I don't expect notable Mario kart expansions for a year minimum... Probably two. They got other stuff to make. Mario kart isn't all they do.
Re: Sony Vet Shuhei Yoshida Says Nintendo Is "Losing Their Identity" With Switch 2
Re: Sony Vet Shuhei Yoshida Says Nintendo Is "Losing Their Identity" With Switch 2
Re: Sony Vet Shuhei Yoshida Says Nintendo Is "Losing Their Identity" With Switch 2
Re: The End Of Joy-Con Stick Drift? The Switch 2's Controllers Have Been Redesigned From The Ground Up
I think it will be fine.
Re: Community: The Results Are In - These Are Your Most (And Least) Wanted Switch 2 Games
I'm sad but not entirely surprised Kirby air riders isn't listed. People are probaygoing to compare it to Mario Kart and sleep on it. But it's an entirely different kind of game with the best mode on the OG game being a kind of battle Royal like game.
I hope people warm up to it later.
Re: Fans Fight Back Against Nintendo Switch 2 Scalpers
@Quarbit the problem is that it's gotten worse to the point of it becoming near impossible to get things even 6+ months in some cases. Because the scalpers just just buy up the stick every time there is a restock.
Plus we simply shouldn't have to wait or pay extra. Which is why people need to stop ***** paying the scalpers already.
Re: Zelda: BOTW Switch 2 Edition Won't Include The DLC, Nintendo Confirms
Re: Round Up: The First Impressions Of Mario Kart World Are In
@N00BiSH This is a comment complaining about comments complaining about the price of Mario Kart World.
Jokes aside I only started to care about Mario Kart due to a few streamers playing it regularly with viewer. But as a result I did start to enjoy the game a bit and the wall riding and rail grinding look like they'll add a lot. Plus now I can just drive around and not exclusively race against others.
Re: Yep, Metroid Prime 4's Box Art For Switch 2 Is... Corrupted
@Paper_Yoshi yes ....yes people make mistakes like that constantly.
Re: Is The Switch 2 A Steam Deck Killer? Digital Foundry Dives Deep
Re: Is The Switch 2 A Steam Deck Killer? Digital Foundry Dives Deep
Re: Best Nintendo Switch 2 MicroSD Express Cards - Cheapest Memory Cards In 2025
@Alpha008 same. Switch 2 comes with decent memory to hold a good few games. With the "virual card" system to better manage digital downloads I can just "Slot in" as much as the system will allow and remove what's not needed.
I can easily get by without more storage for a while.
Re: Switch 2 Games Cost A Bit More Than You're Probably Expecting
Okay people don't panic YET. Is Donkey Kong Bonanza. A 3D platform launch title with one of the oldest mascots is $70 then $80 may not be normal and might even just be for Mario kart.
Possibly other large scale games as well but we don't have to assume that will be the price of all games since we already know of one not that price.
Re: Switch 2 Pre-Orders Expected To Sell Out "Day One" Due To Limited Unit Allocation
@DylanMcGrann they did that with the Alarmo. So it's quite possible.
Re: 'Nintendo Today', A New Mobile App, Will Deliver Fresh Switch 2 News Every Day
@RupeeClock it's say less "cut out" since it's not like that stuff will go away even if they wanted it to.

Re: After Copying Smash's Homework, MultiVersus Publisher Was Apparently Turning To Mario Kart Next
Re: Forget The Lawsuit, Pocketpair Says Palworld On Switch 2 Is "100% Worth Considering"
Honestly do wish this nonsense would end.
Re: Xenoblade Chronicles X: What's The Best Division?
I'm glad they removed blade levels. Too much crap to manage was annoying. But I wish they'd given each division a buff so it wasn't entirely reduced to meaningless visual flair.
Like maybe interceptors get bonus exp from battles while Pathfinder's get bonuses from exploration.
Removing all value from divisions was a bad call IMO. But I guess it's hard to complain when they already remade this huge ass game and improved so much of it.
It's still worth calling out though.
Re: Sakurai Says Japanese Developers Should Avoid Trying To Appeal To Western Tastes
Re: Sakurai Says Japanese Developers Should Avoid Trying To Appeal To Western Tastes
Re: Poll: What's The Best Xenoblade Game? Rate Your Favourite For Our Upcoming Ranking
@BenAV Xenoblade on the 3ds isn't a 10. They did their best but it's frankly way too crunched. Plus it lacks the definitive versions improvements so in comparison it's even worse.
Xenoblade is great but the 3ds version is easily the worst one.
Re: Switch 2 Will Support NFC, According To New FCC Filings
@Ultimapunch I feel the only people surprised are those that don't realize Nintendo still makes at half a dozen or so new amiibos every year.
Their demand isn't like it was at launch but it's still pretty big. When Xenoblade 3 amiibos of Noah and Mio were released the Nintendo store was crashing from the traffic.
So Amiibos are still big profits for Nintendo. They just focus on particular figures rather than mass producing as many as possible.
Re: Nintendo's Lawsuit Win Against Major French Sharehoster Is Now Final
@Pillowpants they can't stop it but if you don't at least try to deal with it it only gets worse.
Like you can't stop the drug trade, but that doesn't mean you just let people sell meth on public street corners. You want to at least suppress it so it's not easily available.
