I didn't think I'd like this kind of game but I actually enjoyed it a lot. The biggest problem is it is a bit repetitive. A good game to have on the switch, but since it's single-player I'm not sure I have enough of an incentive to double-dip.
@thesilverbrick I've been thinking about this movie and I really did enjoy it while watching it. However, after it was over and thinking about it, there are so many things that don't make sense or are frustrating as a Star Wars fan.
So it's this weird thing where if you don't care about those rough spots the movie will be great, but if you do, you've got a lot to say in the negative.
Not to mention that whole kamikaze light speed deal may completely destroy the Star Wars universe, ho boy!
I will also say that I can't stand Ultra-Beasts; the designs annoy me, but it's really the high stats that drive me nuts...
I still think the game needs some sort of "endless dungeon" as a side thing. Something to raise the stakes and make you actually use the items you stockpile. It's not fun wandering the same patch of grass for 2 years waiting for the Pokemon you're looking for to pop up. (Yeah yeah I know mystery dungeon exists, but let's be real they never nail MD on the head and I'm talking about using the turn based battle style.)
The game has lost it's challenge, is the real meat of it. Yeah, grinding for hours can get tedious, but at the same time playing through an entire game that's too easy is frustrating. Trainers should always have 4 to 6 Pokemon, at the very least gym leaders. Perhaps go the Colosseum route and make everything double battles? I remember that game being tough but engaging because it wasn't just who's Pokemon was stronger...not to mention you had to beat stronger Pokemon at several points in your journey. Plus you had one shot to catch each Pokemon...Colosseum is not a perfect game by any means, but it has a lot of good ideas going for it.
Another minor thing that annoys me is how limited your Pokemon selection is starting out, but that's just something I noticed recently while playing Ultra Sun.
Disorder or not, playing too many video games is detrimental. I would know. What too much is can be quite subjective, but I believe everyone should agree with my first statement.
Geez some of you people. No benefit of the doubt. It's a mom, perhaps who doesn't use amazon too much, who didn't know to check the packaging. In fact I've never made sure to check the packaging myself, but I would probably notice it if it was tampered with. I would be heartbroken if my Switch was stolen before I even got it.
If I were amazon I would replace it, but see then I put her on a list, and if it happens again then I get fishy.
I for one found Super Mario Odyssey to be a bit easy, so I'll be busy over at the [SPOILERS] Super Mario Odyssey Challenge Thread. However other than that and some Splatoon 2, I'll mostly be on the PC this weekend. Just picked up Tooth and Tail (and others) on the Steam sale and it's been surprisingly fun!
Never understood the hype with Zelda games... I've played almost all of the mainline 3D ones at this point, and I quite enjoyed most of them, but it never seems to beat out Mario (except for maybe 3D world, but definitely not by an HD remake).
The issue with all these arguments is that people on both sides of the coin have valid statements.
I think this issue would be more clear cut if all Youtubers put a lot of time into their videos and all Youtubers were professional. Yeah, it's never going to happen, but the reason this is all so problematic is because any person can enter Youtube and try to make money, even if their videos are absolutely terrible. And what company would want a terrible Youtuber to advertise or be linked in any way to their games? Not Nintendo at least, I can understand that.
The problem I have with the 10 is the review doesn't tell me enough to justify a 10. Everything stated in the review is exactly what we already know. What about the difficulty? What about the national pokedex? What about mega evolution? What about post-game? Can I encounter high level Pokemon in the game? Did they flesh out the areas in Alola? Can I go on the golf course? Is Pokemon calling for help still there and annoying? Is there still an hour of tutorials? Is the game still super linear? Can we get more than one of each Johto ball? I mean come on; I know we're trying to stay away from spoilers here, but you didn't answer any of these questions to a degree I'm happy with. I guess I need to read some more reviews.
Cool...like it matters... I could see you passing on Odyssey if you don't have a Switch, but otherwise you should be playing that game! (Realistically, I know, kids have to wait for their parents to buy them the game so that also makes sense)
Yeah boi! Best Mario game? I haven't played it yet, but considering my favorite has been Sunshine, despite its many flaws...Odyssey probably will be mine. Feels like release day should be today, ha ha. So many people are already playing.
Makes sense why Nintendo made these, even if the supply runs thin. I'd try and pick one up myself if I didn't own 90% of my favorites on the SNES mini already.
@Ralek85 For sure, I'm not saying this is all doom and gloom, and like you just mentioned there are good things about it. I would like to add that the Mercy play-rate was not as high as last "meta update", so those are not all just "I enjoy Mercy" players. But again, like you mentioned, Blizzard will probably fix the issues in a few patches (I sure hope so!).
The thing is many of these positive sides are not positive to me, personally. I don't like Mercy, both playing as her and against her. Yeah, it's great that new players to the genre can pick up Overwatch with Mercy and have a very positive impact on the game. However, I see Mercy way too often, I don't play Mercy so I put my team at a disadvantage when i'm support. Roadhog was op, so they nerfed him. Rightly so, but I was never that good with Roadhog so now I can't seem to play him well at all. I could go on, but there's not much a point. Because at the end of the day it's really just not my kind of game. I must admit Blizzard did a great job making first-person shooter enjoyable, but the holes that come from the genre alone become all too apparent after playing for a while, and the way they decide to patch these holes is not the way I'd like them too.
EDIT: Widow and Hanzo have to charge, but not as long as I'd like. I actually think Hanzo is fine, but the headshot is still upsetting. It still is a charge though, you're right.
@Ralek85 It's not rigid in the sense that you can change your class whenever you want, but it is rigid in that you can be pigeon-holed into a position or character that you don't want because: A) your team needs it, or B) someone switched to a character that counters your character. In that sense it's too rigid. On top of that, if one character is OP while the other is UP...e.g. Mercy vs. any other healer, you're forced to play the op thing or put yourself at a disadvantage. And on top of that, Widow or Hanzo one-shot is probably one of the worst feelings in gaming. I <3 that you actually have to charge with the charger in Splatoon.
Now perhaps these things don't bother you, or you know ways around it. But for me, Overwatch is a fun game marred by the fact that you can't always play the hero you want, you have to play the hero you need, and also the enemy team sometimes doesn't allow me to play the game. I won't try and say Splatoon 2 is better; they are different games after all (first-person vs third) with their own problems. But, I notice some holes in your arguments.
@Yorumi Yes, of course! You disliked the joycons, but I feel like, at least a few people in your sample size of 30 wouldn't be complaining about them if you didn't also have that luxurious pro controller as a comparison. It's just a thought.
"how can a controller realistically have a spectrum of 30 or so people absolute hate everything about it, to people praising it as the best controller ever?" @Yorumi I'd say because you have pro controllers. I imagine, comparing the two controllers side-by-side, everyone is going to want a pro controller. I don't have a pro controller, and not one person has complained about the controller size in my sample of around 8. At least, if the size annoyed them, they wouldn't speak up and tell me, ha ha.
And well...some people just don't like negativity you know already
Plus, I don't see any problems besides the size...it's a big one for sure, but past that it's only one, besides the "control pad" thing.
When the review is out, I'd really like to know how the difficulty is with end-game items. I really enjoyed this game, but going back to do the challenges was too easy, but doing them right after finishing the world, some were too hard or impossible. It kind of prevented me from finishing the game. The co-op challenges are also annoying, since you have to play normal before you unlock hard...
I've actually put my Switch on a small hiatus due to Odyssey coming out soon...but you know what I'm doing in two weeks, ha ha. I do have plans to get Golf Story and others, I just want to wait for Odyssey for some reason...
@Snaplocket Yeah I took her out of the party as soon as possible. The other two party members weren't as bad, but I do remember straight up not using certain gear.
I've been wanting to mention on an article that there are already too many games on the switch to spend my time and money on. It's wild. Wasn't even thinking about buying more games until I finished Odyssey, but by the time I finish that game there'll be too many to count! Sheesh.
@cyrus_zuo Oh well would you look at that, ha ha. I've only played Rune Factory 4 and I haven't gotten though the entirety of Stardew, but my thoughts are:
The characters in SV feel "normal" compared to RF4. Actually, the whole game has a dash of "modern day" feel that is completely absent from RF4, despite both games having fantasy elements.
RF4 has more in-depth combat and way more areas, unless there's a huge set of dungeons in SV I don't know about.
I will give SV a win in the fishing department. Albeit it stresses my hand, but a controller would probably fix that (among other things).
I would also say SV is slower (gameplay-wise) and has less visual flair than RF4, but the pixel art is well done (mostly) and visuals are sharper than RF4.
Farming was fun in both, no thoughts come to mind.
I would think SV plays different enough from RF4 that you could enjoy both, even when liking one over the other. I just don't like the SV characters as much as RF4, is perhaps my biggest complaint.
That's all that comes to my head, having not played either game in a while. Hope it helps!
