During the most recent Nintendo Direct there was the surprise announcement of Mario Party: The Top 100 for the 3DS; the portable entry will combine a whole lot of classic minigames from throughout the IP's history, also giving the system a useful Holiday release to tempt families.
The reveal didn't get into too many details, but there's now an overview trailer to outline more of the modes and the amiibo functionality. Using amiibo characters is always optional, of course, and in this case they offer assistance during rounds and even quicker minigame unlocks; here's hoping standard unlocks without the amiibo aren't too onerous.
Check it out below.

It's out soon - on 10th November - and at least has the neat selling point of download play, so families should only need to buy one copy. Do you think you'll pick this up?

Sounds like fun. Glad you only need one copy of the game. Might get one of my kids the game so we can play together
Inb4 “This should be on Switch.”
But this should be on Switch (too).
Again, just wish this was on Switch. The 3DS already had 2 Mario Partys and the system's entering its twilight years....
Wow, I was literally just thinking "Man, Top 100 is so close, new info could drop any moment."
I wish they went into more depth on the board mode. Now we know it's similar to Star Rush's Balloon Bash, I just hope they've fixed that modes flaws. I'm already seeing the item spaces everywhere which is a shame, I'd much rather they just bring item shops back.
This comes out in January for PAL territories, not November!
"Ever partied with Mario?" XD if only this was a 90's commercial.
So I guess that's what they meant by "board play".
@SM4SHshorts Yeah, kinda disappointed by that. Still look fun though.
@hylian-pudding Yep, as an avid MP goer, it'd be an insult if I didn't pick this up!
One of the games they showed earlier was the fishing one where you pick poles and it is just random who wins. I will still buy the game, but how can the random/luck mini games be included in the top 100? The good news is that Gomba Bowling is included.
I was dismissive of this game at first, as it seems like the epitome of all the phoned-in schedule-filler titles that Nintendo is using to stretch out the 3DS's life for as long as they possibly can (I'm sure we've probably got like 5 more middling Kirby games to come... the poor guy), but actually I think it's a fairly neat idea. I'm vaguely interested.
Love the tag line Thomas 👍
My God... What were they thinking not putting this on Switch?
No online though correct? If so it's a hard pass for me.
def buy for me!
I just LOVE Mario Party! Star Rush is so brilliant and really tried hard to please the folks that complsined about previous entries...shame most gamers ignored it as it is so good
Looks good, but my questions are still unanswered.
Where is DK at? Nobody wants Rosalina in this game. She wasn't even inn the originals. Give us the Monkey back.
I bought Star Rush two weeks ago for 20€ (got Yokai Watch 2 for the same price and Color Splash for 30€ while I was at it). I'd already played it few times thanks to the free app thingy which lets you play with someone who owns a copy (or just play via download play). It's an ok game so I thought why not buy it for myself. I didn't grow up with Mario Party so I don't have the nostalgia for all the minigames. I've only played 2-4. 4 is the only one I own. I'll pick it up once I can get it for 20€ too.
Yes. Me and my wife will play this.
@justin233 Lol, nice call and not a second too late!
I thought this was coming to the Switch when I saw the article. Sigh.
I'm buying.
This should have been a switch and 3ds double release.
If this was coming out on the Switch then I'd buy it. It would be great to play 4-player in front of the TV.
Hopefully we'll have a different Mario Party for Switch. I mean with the Joy Cons they've opened more possibilities I guess.
Am just wondering if playing Mario Party games on the 3DS might cause me to damage it. You know if it's one of those games where you hammer the A button for example, it does worry me a little.
Switch would of made more sense, this game started on home consoles now the 3ds gets what we all wanted for decades.
So lemme guess, no classic board mode yet again. :/
I'm glad they decided to commemorate the ten installments of a celebrated local-multiplayer home console party series by putting this game on a dying handheld which requires multiple consoles to play effectively. Genius work, Nintendo.
This looks like a much better version of MP Star Rush. Definitely interesting in buying this!
Mario Party Switch better support 8 players since we're missing out on the awesome asynchronous 5 player multiplayer of Mario Party 10. They'd better find some use for that IR camera as well.
Man, they're not even trying anymore with the amiibo support. :/
@Banjos_Backpack https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fm4lNObkgL0&feature=youtu.be&t=9m14s No confusion necessary when they downright said so in the PAL Nintendo Direct that announced the game.
So... only classic mini games and not maps? I may have lost a little bit of interest but I still plan on picking this one up.
@Banjos_Backpack It's all good. NintendoLife staff got it wrong too. It got me confused too, so no worries.
Does it have online?
Sad no classic boards...but still going to buy this unlike the last four Mario Party's(I almost bought star rush though)
Such a waste not bringing Mario Party to the Switch.
No Normal board mode? Is that what I'm seeing?
Stinks. I don't know anybody else with a 3DS to play. This looks like it could be a lot of fun.
I'll maybe buy it, but not this year. Besides, who did chose those mini-games (I suspect Nintendo themselves)? Same with Rhythm paradise megamix: I loved it, but Nintendo probably should make the public choose their favorites!
Tug-of-war won't be in it that's for sure, lol!
Oh and no special maps from the looks of it, just one map. That's bad.
@Henmii Tug o' War is in it...
I just got mario party star rush 3ds about a month ago. So i'll be playing that for a good while before i pick the new mario party 3ds game up! 😆
Happy Gaming! 😊
@mystman12,
Oh dear, there goes the circle-pads!
