Re: Feature: What We Can Expect From The Future Of Pokémon GO

MasterWario

@Megumi_Sagano @Alshain01 If you live anywhere near a cluster of like 4 or more Pokestops (like a city or park), all you need to do is take one trip there and your bag will fill up quickly.

It's definitely a problem that there are so little Pokestops in rural areas, but I was surprised at how fast I was able to fill up my bag with one trip into a nearby town.

@rjejr I can definitely see my interest waning fast, but I really like Pokemon gen(eration) 3 (although gen 4 has my favorites) so once that comes out I'm playing this game until I catch 'em all!

The thing this game really needs to keep going is something fun to do that actually involves player-player interaction. Right now you can't do anything to defend your gym other than make it buff. You have to just watch it being taken and then take it back...

Re: Weirdness: It's Crazy To Think That Pokémon GO Wouldn't Exist Without Google's April Fool's Prank

MasterWario

@PlywoodStick I'm on Android, and in fact, Google Maps has permission to view my contacts and Pokemon GO does not. What it has is the ability to view device accounts, which is probably your Google Account if you choose to log in with it (Google Maps has the same permission but can also delete or add accounts!). In fact, the Google Maps app has way more permissions required, but I see you use the browser version instead.

Funny thing is, many of the default Android apps require a mountain of permissions; just look at the default Clock app which I thought would require no permissions.

Also I think USB storage is the same as SD card storage.

Thanks for the article though; I usually skim the privacy policies since 90% is the same thing in every privacy policy. I wish there was a place I could go to get privacy policy summaries.

Re: Nintendo Share Value Continues Rapid Ascent Amid Bold Estimates of Pokémon GO Revenues

MasterWario

I'm upset I didn't buy stocks...I think I'm too late now.

Since everyone here keeps talking about SLIGEACH_EIRE, I would like to inform you of his strategy for getting to be a first-ish comment:

He types in a word, hits reply, thus ensuring his place in the comment section, and then edits the comment with the full response. I can't decide if it's a neat trick or an objectionable method.

Re: Feature: What Are Your Thoughts, So Far, on Pokémon GO?

MasterWario

A bit frustrating I don't have any stops or gyms in walk-able distance, but otherwise this game is way too fun.

Like actually; I keep telling myself this is way more fun than it should be!

But it does need more Pokemon, and trading. Two biggest weakness right now. Oh and maybe a gym/pokestop map.

Re: Video: Here's What Pokémon GO Looks Like in the Real World

MasterWario

@Kirk I see. I just watched the video again and I agree that AR section should be better. Do note however, that Image Processing has some of most difficult computer science problems in existence. It's part of the reason I say it will take a while for Nintendo to get mobile apps down. There is a whole new sub-set of problems with mobile that Nintendo is probably not used to.

Re: Video: Here's What Pokémon GO Looks Like in the Real World

MasterWario

@Kirk I honestly believe it will be at least 2 or 3 more years until Nintendo comes out with an actual good, quality phone app. Nintendo has this weird idea that a phone game should not be like their console releases, and on top of that phones are a completely different ball game; from experience, you really need to minimize visual update calls to the phone because one misstep can lag the phone a ton. A phone is decently powerful, but it's not optimized for gaming, and actually, this app follows android's visual guidelines pretty well.

In addition...do you expect Niantic to make high quality maps for everywhere in the world? I don't believe that's entirely realistic.

It may look cheap...but I'm not sure what you'd want instead? I will agree the gameplay is lacking (which doesn't matter to me for a phone app), but I don't understand what you expect from the visuals.

Re: Seven New Pokémon Revealed for Pokémon Sun and Moon

MasterWario

You know I wasn't pleased at first, but give it several minutes and they're all starting to grow on me.

I will be worried Togedemaru doesn't evolve until I see it though. Like Dedenne is a useless Pokemon and I don't want this little guy to be in the same spot.

@Octane And that's why I'm upset. An evolution for that thing would be awesome.

Re: 'Makers of Mario' Website Aims to Show Nintendo's Bookmark Functionality The Way Forward

MasterWario

I just saw this. It's a great idea, but the problem I've noticed with Mario Maker in general is the game is saturated with so many user levels that I have a difficult time finding the levels that I genuinely enjoy. We'll see if this service can address that issue.

I am actually working on a world myself, so I'm planning on at least trying it out.

Finally, the extra features, like the personal record, seem promising, but I'm not sure how they will be verified.

Re: Nintendo Share Price Falls to Lowest Point in Over a Year as Global Markets React to 'Brexit'

MasterWario

@abe_hikura Well dang, that is bad; no wonder so many are upset. Thank you for sharing, I appreciate it.

And unfortunately data is always a hard thing when it comes to voting; I say that from experience. Like, where do you go to get data that isn't biased? Is that even possible? What do I do if a site claiming to be neutral only shares information about a hypothetical "green" party and not a "yellow" party? How will I know this "yellow" party ever even has news?

@WinterWarm Thanks as well!

Re: Hardware Classics: Nintendo 64

MasterWario

@Project_Dolphin I didn't mean SNES in general, just Yoshi's Island's graphics in particular.

And I do agree, Nintendo does go with cartoony art styles because their hardware is weaker; however, I prefer that art style over realism in a lot of cases, which is probably why I'm a Nintendo gamer in the first place. And it's also a great skill to have: Nintendo knows how to make astounding worlds without resorting to realism, and Nintendo doesn't have to pour millions of dollars into photo-realism just to have a hollow shell of gameplay leftover.

It's clear to me that you prefer graphical prowess when it comes to your video games, and that's all good. But, there are a lot of people out there who would rather have an innovative and exciting gameplay experience at 480p over a boring or broken game running at 4k resoultion, myself included. Like I don't care if it's 1600k, I'm not playing Knack.

Re: Hardware Classics: Nintendo 64

MasterWario

@Project_Dolphin Whoa whoa whoa! Yoshi's Island's graphics are a stroke of genius. It's adorable, crisp, colorful, and most importantly, pleasant to look at. I'll take Yoshi's Island graphics over Dark Soul's 50 shades of grey any day. (Dark Souls is a great game, just talking about graphics here.)

Yoshi's Island is one of those few games I can go back to and say "wow this game hasn't aged a day." It's a masterpiece.

Bash on Nintendo 64 games all you want, but if you say Yoshi's Island graphics are "bad", you're just ignoring the elephant in the room.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Nintendo's E3 2016?

MasterWario

I really hope Mario Party: Star Rush turns out ok. I've been missing Mario Party for quite a while.

Zelda is great of course, but I don't care for games not releasing the current year.

And then Pokemon is fun as usual, but I really hope they put in either some difficulty or some end game content that isn't just "Battle Location". I still think an endless dungeon would be the best thing. They always mess up something with PMD, but the main series has always (imo) been perfect for it.

This may sound strange but I'm upset at no Mario Maker announcements. The game needs like 2 out of these 3 additions: vertical levels, place-able water/lava, and some kind of world editor; then I'd be satisfied.

But I think Super Mario Maker has died down too much. The hype for the game is over and Nintendo is moving on. I just wanted one or two more updates, but alas.

At least we have key coins and keys; I wouldn't be playing the game still if it wasn't for that.

Re: Meet The Edgy And Mature Fan-Made Pokémon Game That Aims To "Fix" The Series

MasterWario

@WireWare The case will probably be they're using Pokemon Essentials in RPG Maker XP, meaning the framework is already up and running. There's a lot of Pokemon Essential fan projects out there because the fact that it uses RPG Maker means it can only play on Windows, which apparently means Nintendo doesn't care as much about it; on top of that you start off with a running game engine, you just need to tweak things around.
