Re: Poll: With One Week To Go, What Are Your Switch 2 Launch-Day Plans?

Markiemania95

@LavaTwilight Because it’s not 30% of people answering the poll, it’s 30% of the total games listed above being bought. Even if everybody here is buying Mario Kart, that number would not be 100%, as people will also be buying other games, too.

EDIT: I guess I was hanging around on this page too long. @MetaRyan ‘s comment only loaded after I posted my own.

Anyhow, I’m getting Mario Kart World, in addition to the BotW and TotK upgrades with Switch Online. Already received my 512GB Micro SD Express, and expecting my Pro Controller, GameCube Controller, and ordinary carry case to arrive with the console.

Re: Nintendo Files New Trademark For A DS Cult Classic

Markiemania95

@JimNorman It’s still incorrect though. The article still reads -

“Another Code: Recollection, a remastered bundle that appeared in Japan under its Western title for the first time.”

Which, again, is not true. The Japanese DS and Wii versions were called Another Code. The Japanese Switch version is called Another Code. It never had its name changed to a ‘Western title’, so the passage above is just completely erroneous. It was always called ‘Another Code’ in Japan. The whole paragraph was, and is, just not worth including in the article.

EDIT: Untitled Untitled Untitled

Even if you can’t read katakana, you can see that the main text is the same.

Re: Nintendo Files New Trademark For A DS Cult Classic

@JimNorman “You see, as pointed out on Reddit by BreafingBread, Nintendo took out a new trademark on the Western title for Trace Memory — Cing's other adventure series — back in 2018, and what came to Switch five years later? Another Code: Recollection, a remastered bundle that appeared in Japan under its Western title for the first time.”

This is incorrect for a couple of reasons.

First, neither ‘Trace Memory’ or ‘Another Code’ are the Western titles of the games. Trace Memory is the title in North America and Another Code is the title in Japan and Europe. The West ≠ North America.

Second, the games were always called “アナザーコード” (literally ‘Another Code’) in Japan - on the DS, the Wii, AND the Switch. Its title never changed at all. BreafingBread also didn’t claim that the Switch release “appeared in Japan under its Western title for the first time”, so it seems as if you’ve misunderstood the difference between English/Japanese and Romaji/Katakana in the Reddit post you’ve linked to.

Re: Nintendo Warns Of Phishing Email For Switch 2 Lottery In Japan

Markiemania95

Got a push notification from the My Nintendo app saying that I’d won, but that’s the only indication I’ve had of such a result so far. Nothing on the app itself, no e-mail, and no change on the website either. Fortunately I took a screenshot of the notification, so I have proof that I didn’t imagine it lol, but now just waiting on further confirmation to hopefully come soon.

EDIT: There is now a notification within the app clarifying that I’m a winner. They’ve decided to move the purchase window to between the 1st of May and the 12th of May, possibly in part due to the phishing e-mails in question.

Re: There's A New Way To Add Friends On Nintendo Switch 2

Markiemania95

@Kyloctopus Yeah, it is already a thing. I’ve had the QR code of my FC saved onto my phone for years now. Just to check if I was going insane and imagining it, I just went onto the app, and yeah - the option is already there. I have no idea what Polygon are talking about

EDIT: After re-reading, I think the only new feature is the ability to actually scan from the app, rather than just produce a QR code from it. Not really much of a difference as most people can already simply use their standard camera app to scan QR codes, but still.

Re: Nintendo Apologises As Japanese Store & eShop Malfunction For Five Days

Markiemania95

@PJOReilly “There's no choice on which Switch 2 or bundle you'll get, with either a standard console, Mario Kart World Bundle or "region-free" model randomly assigned to those who meet the terms and are then chosen in the lottery. Lottery winners earn the right to pre-order the console or bundle they've been assigned.”

??? Where did you and @SapphireBlaze get this information? Afaik, this is totally untrue. I applied, specifically, for the Multi-Language edition on the website, and the e-mail I got after doing so also specified that it was the Multi-Language version that I had selected.

Re: Opinion: A Few Too Many Questions & Unwelcome Surprises Are Taking The Shine Off The Switch 2 Reveal

@dartmonkey “I don't like the idea of going backwards and arbitrarily stopping people from playing imported games”

This line confuses me a bit. What does the decision to make a Japanese-language edition and a Multi-language edition have to do with imported games? 99% of Japanese gamers are not importing games from other countries, so they have no issue with a region-locked console. Meanwhile, the problem with those who decide to import the Japanese-language system is that they wouldn’t be able to play games from their own country - not imported games.

“Japanese families being able to afford the new Nintendo system is something no reasonable person should begrudge, despite the frustrating impact on expats living in the country.”

To be honest, the only frustrating aspect of it is that to get any Switch 2 here, you have to enter a very popular lottery, on a website that keeps crashing - but, so do the Japanese populace. The other potential frustration is that the Multi-language version will be exclusive to the My Nintendo Store here, so if we don’t win that lottery, then we don’t really have many other choices. But we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it…

In terms of price, Japanese-language is ¥50k, Multi-language is ¥70k; still cheaper than the UK, the US, and probably many other countries. So even then, still better off than I would have been back home.
