Nintendo's given us our first proper look at The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel, and while we loved every second of it, one thing we would like to know is the game's name.
As fun as it is calling it the sequel to BOTW and Breath of the Wild 2, we really would like a name. Sadly, it appears that won't be happening anytime soon. During an interview with IGN, Nintendo's Bill Trinen explained how the company was holding off on a title reveal in fear it might give too much away.
“As for why we’re holding back on the name, you’ll just have to stay tuned because, obviously, Zelda names are kind of important... Those subtitles… they start to give little bits of hints about maybe what’s going to happen.”
As noted by Bill, fans will just have to "stay tuned". Past titles in the series have had some pretty obvious connections to major parts of the storytelling, so it's understandable Nintendo might not want to give away any key information right now.
The sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is currently targeting a 2022 launch date. Any ideas on what it could or should be called based on the footage we've seen so far? Leave a comment down below.

Imagine if after all this hype over the name, the final name is just:
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2
or
The Sequel to the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
or even
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild: The Squeakquel
So they have a name, but they're gonna wait until later to reveal it, since it's connected to something they've yet to reveal.. huh.
It's probably story related or at least is indicative of the story beats so they don't want to have it out there too early for the sake of keeping surprises
It'll probably be revealed when the game is fully unveiled sometime next year if it does end up making 2022
"The legend of Zelda and that time Ganon was resurrected, but not on purpose, and floating rocks returned to the sky like before of the Wild"
The Legend of Zelda: Fart in the Wind
@HotGoomba Or The Game Formerly Known As Breath of the Wild 2.
@Tyranexx
Zelda BOTW : Loose Hair Link
I just don’t hope next year’s E3/equivalent event isn’t a shrine to this one game. I wasn’t a huge fan of that for Breath of the Wild. I don’t mind the wait into as far as next holiday, but it does leave me curious as to when the big info drop of title + extensive gameplay will happen.
There's been speculation that the game doesn't have a subtitle because it is still too early in development.
It's clear that doesn't seem to be the case.
Legend of Zelda: Oops, Someone Lost the Master Sword
Breath of the Sky.
Well that’s interesting
The Wild of Legend: Breath of the Zelda
Breath of the wild 2: Skyrim Sword!
It's something "of Time" or something related, link's new hand can reverse objects in time, the reverse sounding music', etc there is time travel in this game
I keep seeing Genshin Impact comparisons everywhere I go and it's hilarious that that's the game it's supposed to be competing against, even though they're two completely different gaming experiences.
I think they'll call it The Legend of Zelda: Caves and Skies - A Breath of the Wild Story.
Anyone notice that we never really saw Link's face with the long hair...?
Jus sayin...
@dux
Ocarina of Time! No, wait
@Bizzyb Just pretend that the face on this Link's body, is the one from Twilight Princess.
You know from Ordon Village.
...
At Least that's how I see him.
The clothes he wears suggest strongly from that Legend of Zelda Timeline.
After seeing the trailer, my thought would be the game will be called something along the lines of The Legend of Zelda: Skies of the Wild.
The Legend of Zelda: [REDACTED]
@Tyranexx for posterity sake though, they refer to the game with an unpronounceable symbol that looks like Prince’s O(+> symbol, only with a tri-force on the bottom of it
@HotGoomba New Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Skyward Sword 2. Do it Nintendo! Make them put some respect on that name!
The Legend Of Zelda: Hyrule Rising
or
The Legend Of Zelda: Arm Of Gerudo
or
The Legend Of Zelda: It's Morphin' Time
Jokes aside, I think LOZ: Chasm Of Malice has a nice ring to it.
“Breath of the Wild” was not particularly revealing as a sub-title. It could have been Wind Waker’s subtitle actually. So I guess this one will be more artefact- or story-oriented.
Breath of the Wild: CHAOS!
I thought Twilight Princess refered to Zelda, since Midna jokingly called her "The princess of twilight". I felt a little dumb a dozen hours later.
Link looks like he's getting possessed... TloZ: progressive possession
Legend of Zelda: Sky High Kingdom
Maybe Triforce related?
This sounds like what Marvel did with the sequel to Infinity War - said they didn't want to reveal the name because spoilers and then ended up calling it End Game, which didn't reveal much at all. Probably all a big ploy to build hype.
TLoZ: Link to the Sky?
so it will not be Breath of the Wild 2 then ...interesting
The Legend of Zelda: Zelda Dies And Link Joins The Circus… Of Time.
The Legend of Zelda: Tingle's Tango
the legend of zelda: the reckoning
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pi-MRZBP91I&t=7s – it's clearly (if only for a tiny fraction of time) Link who's cursed by Ganondorfs remains (based on the red snake-smoke)… His hair grows long because of lack of hairdressers. Zelda is seen falling into a dark abyss moments later. Guessing divine intervention will sort that out though. The player has long blonde hair, it's pretty clear that it is Link due to the cursed arm. What I find interesting are the patterns on the arm, it's clearly related to the robots of old … LINK GOES CYBORG! And of course, time will play its role. But think of the Sheikah slate, clearly a tablet with camera etc, and the way you transferred maps onto it from the towers? Drops of data. His new arm allows him to "drip upwards" to floating rocks. Clearly the game will be called The Legend of Zelda: Cyberpunk of the Wild. Or something-something god of time (like Chronos) that'll reverse Zelda falling and them spelunking to find Ganons corpse so they can just live out their days in peace (instead of doing stupid stuff like waking mummies). People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect but actually from a non-linear, non subjective viewpoint, it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff. The game ends in new game+. Ooh… what if it's called: The Legend of Zelda: Wibbly wobbly ? Great name!
I am sure it will use either the word Breath or Wild to show continuity. so:
The Legend of Zelda: Into The Wild
Or
The Legend of Zelda: Minty Fresh Breath
The Legend of Zelda: Cash Grab
Maybe they will give some time for people to play Skyward Sword and understand why going to the clouds and the castle rising up is SUCH A FREAKING BIG DEAL in the lore.
Then the title will make a lot of sense.
I predict the word "Time" will be in the title.
I predict it's a sequel with the same story of saving Zelda. It doesn't make sense. I hope to change the story.
The Legend of Zelda: A Breath of Fresh Air
The Legend of Zelda: Untitled Elf Game
@Kieroni we all did, that was the point of that misdirection
The Legend of Zelda: Resurrection of Ganondorf
The Legend of Zelda: Take to the Skies
The Legend of Zelda: Calamity Unleashes New Terror or TLOZ:....
This trailer made me say, “Damn it, I might have to actually play Skyward again to prepare for this.”
@HotGoomba Legend Of Zelda Breath Of The Wild + Tingles Fury
Nintendo posted this on Twitter:
"Return to Hyrule - and the skies above - in this first look at gameplay for the Sequel to the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, planned for release on #NintendoSwitch in 2022."
And it got me thinking: "and the Skies Above" rolls nicely off the tongue, and it fits the theme of the sequel.
"The Legend of Zelda and the Skies Above"
"Breath of the Wild and the Skies Above"
What if Breath of the Wild 2 is the conclusion of the whole Ganon/Link/Zelda story arc? There seem to be pretty obvious Skyward Sword connections and Nintendo seems very intent on people playing that game to see where the origin story starts. We already know the original BoTW is the last game in the timeline, so naturally BoTW2 will at least partially take place after that. Maybe they tie back to the beginning and actually give a conclusion similar to what they're aiming to do with Metroid Dread? They could always slot games in between if they still want to revisit the characters and story.
@NicheAbou Nier Replicant ver.1.22474487139...'s weird title crown needs dethroned, so I'd definitely love to see that.
LOZ-Demise of Ganon!
Lost Zelda Forever?
Skywalkers give Link a Hand?
Legend of Hylia- the Knight's final journey.
“The Legend of Zelda: A Hand in Time”
seems like a good one to me.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2: The Game Mechanic We Don't Want You to Copy First
Skyward Sword, Ocarina of Time, A Link to the Past...
Do you think they will reuse any words from previous titles? I don't think they will use "...of Time" for this reason.
The Triforce will probably be featured in the game. Triangular architecture, the triangles on Link's shield...
The Legend of Zelda: Sky Fall 007 music
The transition, itself, from one title to the other clearly reveals that Link is finally getting that SRS she’s been saving up for
This seems to hint the title will be greatly connected to the story this time.
Breath of the Wild's main meaning was connected to the open-world mechanics and Hyrule itself.
The Legend of Zelda: Myriad of Summers
@HotGoomba Super Breath of the Wild
@flawse The Legend of Zelda: Timey of Whimey
I'm betting on TLoZ: Hand of Fate.
