Animal Crossing: New Horizons had its long awaited Direct today, which delivered a lot of details on possibly the biggest update yet for the game. A key new addition, and one that's sure to keep a lot of us busy, was cooking and a new range of growable crops.
Spotted by dataminers back in 2020, it seems this has been planned for some time, and the broadcast showed various ways it'll shake up the game. Primarily we have the cooking aspect, which follows a similar approach to the recipes we have for various items and furniture; you'll gradually learn how to make various meals.
Crops are also being added, with the ability to plant varied vegetables; we've seen this already with pumpkins, but now it's expanding a great deal.

Kate deserves a medal for predicting all of this!
Harvest Moon: sweating intensely
Yay...!! 😃
ACNH Story of Seasons !
Fantastic game.
Unexpected, that was a lot of content for an update. Wow. The NSO price doubling is intense, but if it comes with paid DLC? That’s an interesting strategy
I knew we'd get a decent update. But that was almost overwhelming to watch. And I mean that in a good way.
I'm gonna really have fun with the Happy Home DLC.
I wonder if the food decorations, like the cakes mom sends you, will be edible.
@Zochmenos it did they gotta show more than that to make the upgrade worth it. Having all Paid DLC bundled into it sounds Good though
@Zochmenos Pretty sure it's $50, mate. Which is still really steep 😓
@Irfann
You can eat the food and get some energy point (not 1 point) according from the Direct.
Is most of it from New Leaf? Yes
Did they turn a spin-off into DLC? Also yes
....but am I buying it? Probably, I want more cute furniture. Nintendo knows what they are doing
Turkey boi is now irrelevant
@Zochmenos The $79.99 was for the 12 month family plan. It's $49.99 for the individual plan.
This is an awesome addition. Can’t believe this was added.
Too little too late in my opinion. Game has been out for over a year and a half.
@nessisonett In terms of growing vegetables, they were datamined even before pumpkins were a thing.
@Broosh Individual memberships are $50 and family memberships are $80
@UmbreonsPapa As we wait for the it's already late NSO pricing article, you think that price is total or in addition to? I feel like it has to be total to seem fair, if that in addition to, that's asking a lot.
OK this entire thread is off topic, they should have put up the NSO pricing article first. 😂
@Zochmenos @Kirbo100 Goodness me I didn't even look at the family rate! Wow 😳
@SeantheDon29 @Anti-Matter looks like Nintendo watched the competition... @nessisonett That kate... predicting and all... @kategray @Kimyonaakuma they might...
@rjejr You mean an additional $49.99 or $79.99 in to the current $19.99 or $34.99?
From what it sounds like, those are the total prices of the plans. You can opt into those plans if your already on one of the current plans and then get a prorated rate for whatever time is left on your current membership.
The family plan is still cheaper than PSN. Although it kind of scares me for what the exchange rate will be for Canadians. I think I will just buy the DLC since I don’t really use NSO as it is.
@UmbreonsPapa Thanks for the reply, I've caught up now. Still seems like a big ask, $30 in addition to a $20 service, or $45 extra for my $35 family, which actually only my family is using, nobody else chips in, I'm a dad of 2 teens. That's not what expansion tends to mean. Guess only Nintendo would bring "free-to-start" to an online rental service. 😜
Wow, the direct was amazing. I am still farming pumpkins almost every day, because hey, a farming sim is a farming sim. But with all these options, i look forward to making a farm space.
Welp time to level my Island…
My island is getting a community garden!!!!
I'm going need to renovate my town to make room for a farm.
No modern blockbuster is complete without cooking it seems.....
can't wait to cook a pizza/chocolate cake.
