@SoIDecidedTo That's really impressive man! I've partaken in a lot, but missed many too. Wish I'd joined the final Splatfest in Splatoon 2 where Pearl and Marina had exclusive outfits 😑 I've been with the series since the beginning as well and put 700 hours into the original and over 1000 into the series in total. Maybe we've battled a few times in the past without knowing haha Splatoon is life so I'd say you made the right choice 😂
He should have more faith haha The industry is always growing and games are increasing in scale all the time. They could definitely make a much bigger Smash Bros, it's just that the quality will take a hit if they don't spend many, many years creating it.
I usually pick Frye since she has the best design and almost always gets the best Splatfest theme. Saying that, I went with Big Man this time because ghosts seem like they would make the friendliest companion. Glad I reached splatfest ruler so I'll get the maximum payout 😁
@Croctopus At the end of the day Splatfest is just a silly, fun feature in the game and not something to be treated with such importance. You shouldn't gloat about Shiver's past success in comments, or feel bad for losing this one. I think if you hate what some people are posting and you're saying they're whiney, maybe it's better to be less invested in the results and enjoy other parts of the game instead 🤷♂️
@Poodlestargenerica Idk the response to that game at launch seemed pretty rough from fans and I heard it only gets good after around 12 hours which wouldn't be great praise for any game
GOTY
Baldur's Gate 3 (They'll want to keep it's surprise success story going with this award. It'll be the perfect story for the media and in turn give the Game Awards more coverage)
GOTY nominations
Tears of the Kingdom (BotW won in 2017, so they won't choose TotK to avoid making themselves look predictable)
Mario Wonder
Spiderman 2
Final Fantasy 16
Pikmin 4 (the real GOTY 2023) will win best strategy game, or best family game to tick a box, but won't be nominated for GOTY as it isn't deep, serious, story-based "oscar bait", or as well known and beloved as Mario.
@Nool The impossible pack is the hardest set of standard Mario stages and it's a real shame they're no longer available from the eShop as of this year. You had to beat all three as regular Mario (with no power ups hidden anywhere) and if you died at any point, you go back to the beginning of level 1. The obstacles & strict timer were brutal. I think it's harder to complete than any single challenge in NSMBU, but probably in the same ballpark as going for gold medals in the latter's hardest challenges.
'Don't. Touch. Anything' still gives me nightmares. I think I only reached bronze because I was just happy to have made it to the end lol You have true dedication and I hope you manage gold.
I had a lot of difficulty with Champion's Road on Wii U, as I was too lazy to go get power ups from a different level each time I failed. So I ended up completing it as regular Mario which was tough. On Switch I completed it with all 5 characters, so either I got better, or the tweaked character speed and added air dive move helped haha
Luigi U had that horrendous fire bar level in the special world where you need to keep regular Mario to be able to ground pound for a star coin right at the end and I refuse to ever complete that level again 😂
NSMB2's impossible pack dlc and NSMBU's challenge mode are easily the most difficult Mario content ever created. Anyone who went with a different choice simply hasn't completed those two games in their entirety.
Love the look of this and I've always supported the game since the beginning, but I have a very cramped gaming set up which wouldn't accommodate for this kind of experience. Hoping to play it in future though!
I've reached world 6 and done all but two of the special world levels. Nothing in this game comes close to the difficulty of NSMB2's hardest dlc levels, or the challenge stages from NSMBU, such as the "don't touch any coins" ones. I'm totally fine with that since there are more brand new mechanics in this game, so they've played it safe with the difficulty in the same way they did with Super Mario Odyssey.
Also, the drum sound when doing a ground pound originated in NSMB DS
@Vil The time between the release of the original versions and remakes seems to increase with each gen. BD/SP released 15 years after their DS originals, so I'm guessing Black and White remakes will be releasing 2026 at the earliest. There's no way they would dedicate that much time to one set of games sadly.
@samuelvictor It's really insightful to hear your knowledge on the way the film industry works and how it compares to the gaming industry too. I love a well put together film trailer and they can definitely be more entertaining than the film itself on occasion. I think there's an art to how they're made and people who edit and compose for trailers don't get enough credit. On another note, it's really cool that you're in Rogue One. I've watched my bluray of that film countless times and was lucky enough to see Gareth Edwards on Stage at Star Wars Celebration 2016
Does this mean any badges I have displayed on my 3DS home screen will be stuck there forever once Nintendo Badge Arcade presents the error screen? Not an issue, just curious.
I won one of only 25 Star Fox Zero certificates, which was signed by Shigeru Miyamoto. It's the rarest item I own (I will always be grateful for nintendolife bringing that competition to my attention)
My rarest games are:
Ocarina of time Collector's Edition N64
Pokemon Stadium 2
Banjo Tooie
Fire Emblem Sacred Stones
Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness
Fire Emblem path of Radiance
Zelda Four swords Adventures
Zelda Twilight Princess (Gamecube)
Warioworld
Star Fox Assault
Pikmin 2 (Gamecube)
Freshly Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland
Okamiden
Metroid prime Pinball
The Last Story limited edition
Pandora's Tower
Metroid Prime Trilogy with card sleeve
Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn
Fragile Dreams Farewell ruins of the Moon
Twilight Princess HD
Project Zero Maiden of Black Water Wii U Limited Edition
Super Mario 3D All-Stars
(All in their original boxes except Pokemon stadium 2 and Banjo Tooie)
I beat The Ultimate Cup Z in Forgotten Land on my first try on wild mode, which even Kirby veterans like Antdude couldn't acheive. Yet I can't seem to beat the extra mode in Kirby's Adventure Wii, or the True Arena in Triple Deluxe.
So Forgotten Land was definitely easier, but more fun because of that I think.
How come Serebii always seems to post Pokemon news before any other source these days? I remember a time when Gamefreak was trying to have their site taken down lol
"confusion and angst" sounds more like what Unity must be feeling after realising they can't just stick their hands in people's wallet's and take their money without a fight
I think the Switch will continue for a few more years without a successor, as it was only last year that the President of Nintendo said the console was around the half way point of it's life. Everyone is complaining about how weak it's specs are now but Nintendo has always been about the gameplay and artstyle over graphics and the console is still really popular.
One somewhat lesser direct doesn't mean the console is winding down to me, as they've always had consistently strong and weak showings. It's more down to how many bigger games they have nearing completion whenever a Direct is put out.
@RainbowGazelle The new features I noticed were voice acting, redesigned environments, new puzzles and likely reworked puzzles too since they relied so heavily on DS/Wii control gimmicks, clothing redesigns and camera perspective/control changes. I hope they wrap up a storyline that was left dangling in Another Code R, so there may be extra story too.
Looks great so far! I wonder what they're doing with it to entice people to play through it multiple times? I kinda hope that's optional and that it can be 100% completed in a single playthrough
For me, this was the best announcement of the day. I'm not sure who's developing it but I'm just happy because I never thought this would happen after Cing's closure. They look great so far and I'm glad both games are included with voice acting too!
I just hope there's a physical version so I can display it with the original Another Code games and that they add closure for a certain character's storyline in the 2nd game.
@Dragonite89 nobody is denying the Switch 2 exists, we only say the endless rumours are false. Also the current power of the Switch clearly has been enough, based on the sales and popularity of the system.
Imagine making perfect control sticks since Gamecube, only to completely screw things up with joycon drift, do nothing in six years to solve it except deny the issue and offer a free repair service in some countries and then patent a solution for the next console instead of the current gen...
Considering Pikmin 4 has been out nearly 2 months, it's doing well to be in 18th place. The series used to be so niche and it's great to see it grow from leaf to flower in popularity.
@DAHstroy He spoke a lot of English when he unveiled Twilight Princess at E3 2004. You should check it out, it's definitely their most epic game reveal!
The transphobic comments she received back then were deplorable, but some of her actions since have been even worse and she doesn't deserve this movie. Especially since it's going to paint her in a perfect light and everybody else as the evil of the Internet, when it's really not that black and white.
@OldManHermit Tears of the Kingdom's Ganondorf is the third in the timeline. There was the one from OOT who was resurrected many times. However there was also a second Ganondorf born in the adult timeline in Four Swords Adventures, after the original Ganondorf died in Twilight Princess.
I'm one of less than 1 mil players who bought Four Swords Adventures when it released, so I don't blame you for thinking Ganondorf is just one guy
I'm glad he's said this as it aligns with the theory which makes the most sense involving Hyrule's destruction and rebirth. It's what I like to think happened and his statement definitely seems to confirm that in a roundabout way
@Spider-Kev Even when the Zelda amiibo got a restock post TotK release, the new Link amiibo wasn't restocked. That one has been getting scalped since it sold out in May so you might have quite a wait on yours hands. I'm starting to feel more appreciative than ever that I managed to get Pyra and Mythra myself
I think the backgrounds in Kirby's 2D games on Switch look more impressive but the game still looks really great visually. I'm disappointed that you can't interact with other players in co-op though as it's that help, or harm gameplay that made it so hectic and fun
@tjhiphop Exactly, if it wasn't for Miyamoto's influence on the industry we would be living in a very different world and wouldn't be commenting on this website
I just want to see other people's inkling/octoling holograms in the lobby when waiting for X rank battles to start. My Squid has been lonely in there without that feature
@EarthboundBenjy That happened to me too but I could never figure out the reason why. If it was the Gameboy Player that caused it, that would be a strange reason since it was supposed to enhance the game haha I have a good eye for cartridge legitimacy and mine definitely is, so I don't think that's the cause
This is still the best pinball game I've ever played. The only thing I wish it had was a way of showing which Pokédex entries were new, rather than having to remember all the Pokémon you caught in your last session.

My predictions for this year's Game Awards:
