We've seen multiple Adventure Time titles over recent years on Nintendo hardware, and now the Switch will get in on the act with the next main release - Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridion.
Due in Spring 2018, it kicks off in a 'flooded Land of Ooo', so Finn and Jack naturally hop in a boat and set off on an adventure. It's targeting a visual style to match the cartoons, and the following feature list gives you an idea of what it'll be all about.
- Open-world exploration
- 3D visuals that match the art-style of the show
- Playable fan-favourite characters: Finn, Jake, BMO, and Marceline
- An original Adventure Time story
- Tactical combat
- Hero progression
- Pirates – “Shiver me timbers!”
Are you excited about this one being confirmed for the Switch?

Oh snap cant wait to play this on the go!!!!!!
Though I like "more games" and "adventure time, I do not get very excited by ports. Switch simultaneous, first, or exclusive. That I like.
Rrrrrrrighty then, I'll get to this one eventually
@okeribok It looks like a simulatenous release on all home consoles though.
@okeribok It’s not a port of a previous game. It’s a simultaneous release. I get what you’re saying, but “Switch first or exclusive” is kind of ridiculous...
Other than the first 3DS Adventure Time game, I’ve been routinely disappointed by all the video game adaptations of the series. I’ll wait for a review.
Oh, gosh....
Not interested.
Will definitely get it if it turns out well.
If that is a screenshot of the actual game, consider me VERY interested.
Hmm... We'll see.
Color me intrigued. Gonna wait for reviews, though.
Please CN, bring us Steven Universe: Save the Light!
The last few AT games have been......disappointing. This one sounds promising but I'm hesitant to get too excited. So far the best AT game was the first 3DS one, the platformer. Short, easy, but good.
@anti-matter I would have thought this would be good news for you...it's bright, colorful, cheery, and humorous. Sometimes it's potty humor, but what cartoon isn't? It's a little "weird" but it's still a playful world that is self referential of retro gaming.
Earl of Lemongrab as a playable character or I riot! lol
I have always been interested in this series but I have never make a purchase of any of its games. Are these games any good?
@JJ286 Play "Hey Ice King Why'd You Steal Our Garbage". It is made by Wayforward and has some Shantae/Zelda II elements to it. I don't recommend the others as well, but the third and fourth titles have at least some decent qualities.
Looks good
I totally agree with the people saying the first AT game was by far the best. Yes, It was short, yes, it was easy, but most importantly to me it was fun. I remember playing through it twice and thoroughly enjoying both playthroughs.
Then the second game, Explore the Dungeon, just... it bored me so much I never really got much of anywhere in it. And that was trying to play through with a friend. I can’t even imagine how much more boring it would be attempting to play through it alone.
The third game, Nameless Kingdom, though still not nearly as good as the first game was a big step up from the second game. There was definitely some fun to be had but it felt consistently glitchy and slow. I beat it but I felt like I was forcing myself to beat it at points. That’s still a lot more than I could say for the second game.
I can’t speak for the fourth game (investigations) since after feeling like I outright wasted my money with the second game and feeling let down by the third game, I didn’t rush out and purchase this. I was considering getting it on sale but by he time some sales hit I was finding myself much more interested in other games.
All things considered, I still would love a great AT game again and will keep an eye on this to see how it turns out.
For those in the comments asking about the other AT games though, the only one I would truly recommend is the 1st.
(Edit: I didn’t think this would be nearly as long as it ended up being but hopefully it helps someone. I’ve just always been a big AT fan and big Nintendo fan so I have a lot of thoughts on the game series.)
@ricklongo pretty sure it is! The AT games have been shooting to get closer and closer to looking like the show
@NEStalgia
Ugh....
I don't like the art style, storyline, everything from Adventure Time.
That's why i never watch Cartoon Network anymore.
The cartoons that i saw were soooo.... ugly in graphic & very lame storyline.
Very contrary with 2000's era, the last generation that i still found good looking cartoons.
I've been thinking an open world Adventure Time game would be amazing. Please don't screw this up.
Something I didn't like about past games was that I felt like they were sampled from the first two seasons of the show. Seeing Finn's recent robotic arm has colored me very excited.
I literally just now emailed this to NL as a news tip after just seeing it on Facebook. HOW HAVE I MISSED THIS ARTICLE ON THE SITE FOR THE PAST TWELVE HOURS!?
Anyways, a cel-shaded open world game where the land is flooded sounds extremely Wind Waker esque. There's so much potential in exploring an open world version of the Land of Ooo, but I'll remain cautiously optimistic.
@RyanSilberman hmmm, that doesn't speak well of the quality of the franchise. Anyway, do u think that if I jump into this game I'll be confuse story wise?
@Anti-Matter It is indeed ugly but I think that "hand doodled" art is part of the intended charm. I think they also try to keep it limited to in-house artists in small studios, when you compare to most Disney films and things like the Simpsons they usually source HUGE animation studios, often in S. Korea with hundreds or thousands of animators rather than a small studio.....so there's a limit to the output too.
But yea...it's kinda ugly...
@JJ286 Every succeeding game just tries being something else with mixed results. The second game was a poor man's Gauntlet. The third was more Zelda 1/ALTTP like except more cryptic, and the fourth (not by Wayforward) is a point n click with crappy combat shoehorned in.
Anyway, there are plenty of characters from the show that make appearances here but the game acts as an episode of its own; it is not directly connected to any episodes in the show, and I think people can get the gist of what the characters are like in-game. Ignore the beginning scene, though - It is such a poor start to a game I got extremely confused by it, myself, until it turned out it was a dream shortly after and the game goes from there and begins its real tone.
@RyanSilberman thanks man but I think I'll just start with this new one if it gets at least a 7.
