As E3 enters its last day in LA it's time to go back to some old routines, with the North American Nintendo Download Update being one of them. This week seems to be a strong offering, with notable releases across Wii U and 3DS, along with some high-quality Virtual Console offerings on the home console and New Nintendo 3DS. Let's get to it.
Missed the European Nintendo Download Update details earlier in the week? Don't worry, they're waiting for you right here.
Wii U eShop
Twin Robots (Ratalaika Games, $4.99) - Visually this one certainly has vibes similar to Chibi-Robo!: Zip Lash, with 2.5D visuals and plenty of platforming and simple puzzles. It also features local multiplayer co-op, as an extra bonus, so it'll be interesting to see whether this one has all of the required parts to be a good game; we'll get cracking on a review.
Run Run and Die (EnjoyUp Games, $3.99) - A simple runner designed to make you rage. There are 24 levels in total, some riffing on old consoles, and you simply press a button or tap the GamePad screen to make the auto-running penguin jump. Levels switch angle and you're expected to die a lot, as we did when we gave this an 'average' rating in our Run Run and Die review.
Wii U Virtual Console
Super Paper Mario (Nintendo, $19.99) - Following the showcase of its Wii U successor at E3, the rather clever Wii title makes its bow on the eShop. Unique in its adoption of both 2D and 3D perspectives, it also has an entertaining story and a fairly lengthy campaign. We were big fans in our original Super Paper Mario review.
Drill Dozer (Nintendo, $7.99) - A bit of a treat, with this Game Boy Advance title arriving on the Virtual Console in North America a while after its European equivalent. Developed by Game Freak, this is a colourful platformer in which you drill your way through levels in the quest to retrieve a stolen diamond. We enjoyed it in our Drill Dozer review.
Wii U Retail Download
Terraria (505 Games, $29.99) - Available on the 3DS for a while, this finally makes its way to Nintendo's home console, with bigger environments one of the expected pay-offs. The GamePad touch screen will be supported, while multiple online multiplayer features have been touted. We'll dig into this for a review.

3DS eShop
Rhythm Heaven Megamix (Nintendo, $29.99) - A surprise arrival during day two of E3, this includes remixed rhythm games from previous entries along with all-new challenges. With StreetPass exchanges including challenges there should be plenty to enjoy in this one.
Gunslugs (Engine Software, $1.99) - With the sequel previously delivering frantic run and gun action to the portable's store, we now have the original to look forward to; we can expect more mayhem, procedurally generated levels and characters to unlock. We'll work on a review, and in the meantime you can learn how you made it happen in our interview with the developers.
New Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console
Mega Man 7 (Capcom, $7.99) - The latest SNES arrival on the New 3DS is a third-party effort, bringing us the first numbered entry in this series that followed the 'classic' NES titles. It adopts big, chunky visuals which somewhat dictate stage design, but we gave this a hearty recommendation in our Wii U Virtual Console Mega Man 7 review.

I think I'll snag Mega Man 7. Then I'll have the first 7 all on one system! Too bad I can't grab 8 though- that's the only one I'm missing at this point.
Pass.
THANK YOU! Drill Dozer will be an immediate buy FOR SURE!
getting Splatoon and Hatsune Miku this week, well on Monday. I can't wait to play them
I'm extremely saddened and baffled that Rhythm Heaven Megamix has anything less than 100%. The first three games are pretty much the best things ever, so... Come on people!
Cool, I'll eventually get Super Paper Mario and I might snatch-up The Legend of Kay: Anniversary if the sale price is reasonable, but Monster Hunter 4: Ultimate comes first.
Rhythm Heaven Megamix fo-sho!
Loved Gunslugs 2 and I'll buy Gunslugs because the dev was cool enough to listen to the community and port the game, but I won't get to play it for a while because my 3DS is purely a Planet Robobot console at the moment.
im holding out for a Rhythm Heaven Megamix retail release
Awesome week! Holding off on MegaMix (for now, backlog is...slightly out of control )...but I'll probably get Gunslugs and maybe add some funds for the E3 sale too. Wait...that isn't helping the out of control backlog...at all!
Umm what about the europe update this week?
I'm going to get Mother 3 and the new Mario Kart DLC. Oh, it's not up there, I guess there is going to be some disappointed people.
@Pokefanmum82 enjoy!
Is Terraria also going to be retail/physical release?
I want to get Super Paper Mario, but at that price, I rather buy it physical. I liked how the first downloadable Wii games were US$10 for the first week.
Super Paper Mario is really good. I really enjoyed the game back on the Wii. It took some potentially awkward ideas and implemented them cleverly and stylishly. Nintendo should revisit the idea of an RPG/Platformer mashup, even if it's not through this series.
I think it would actually benefit from an HD coat of paint, because the pixellated style would look great if it were a little sharper. It wasn't a big enough release to ever get that treatment, but I would snap that up.
@big_bad_bob So what you're saying is you're into it?
And with that my wildest dreams for something special for E3 have been thwarted by the evilness that is reality.......time to start dreaming up crazy scenarios for the next Nintendo Direct.
I probably will download Legend of Kay if the price is right.
Already downloaded Rhythm Heaven Megamix last night. Real happy I didn't spend my eshop credits in the past few weeks.
The look on my face when they say it's "live now" during the Treehouse, priceless
@Pokefanmum82 Splatoon is amazing and you'll probably get addicted
Good. The Legend of Dark Witch 2 demo is up. Hopefully people will be influenced to try out the game.
As for this week, I guess...maybe one of the sale games? I already have SPM and as great as it is, it is my least favorite in the series (though I loved all four games released thus far, but yet to see how Color Splash does in my book). I may get Mega Man VII.
@Barbiegurl777 rhythm heaven features quirky musical levels with really simple controls, they're easy to play but hard to master.
The music ranges from quick silly to fully voiced and anime-like.
If you're good at keeping up with rhythm, you'll love it.
Why don't you try the demo?
@Gerbwmu Only 2 choices for the next ND, LoZ:BotW to emphasize the story or NX. Though if they unviel NX in a ND rather than a big show they truly are mad. 3rd choice is a combo of the 2, after a big NX event, the next ND could be Zelda on NX. Depends on mow many NX games they show off at the hardware unveil.
Though I think ND may be done. Wii U literally has 3 games left - Paper Mario, Olympics, Zelda sometime next year; 3DS can't have many more than we already knew about and saw at E3.
What do you think @Grumblevolcano new ND or no?
As for the eShop update -
Why is Terraira a $30 DL? It's $20 ON DISC for PS3, PS4, Vita, X360, X1. 3DS is $30, they should at least make it cross-buy for that price.
Nothing from today. Box Boy from yesterday though I think.
In the words of Brentalfloss... "BUT SEEEEVEN SUCKS BIG DINOSAUR BAWLS"
Nice Super Paper Mario! I love that game
@rjejr You forgot about TMS#FE though that does come out same day as Mario & Sonic Olympics. As for Direct or not? I'm not sure. Nintendo of Canada confirmed that NX is being revealed in the fall and according to wiki, fall starts on the 22nd September this year.
https://www.nintendolife.com/forums/nintendo-nx/what_do_you_think_the_nx_is_poll?start=1560#reply-1573
Judging from this we're probably seeing NX revealed a few weeks after Color Splash release. That's a long time without any type of Direct from Nintendo, maybe a Federation Force Direct in July?
@rjejr - Maybe my crazy dream is that ND still exist then..........Wii U will still give me Tokyo Mirage Sessions and Zelda. My son wants Mario Maker and Pokken Tournament which maybe xmas gifts and depending on what Nordic's final game is.....I will probably purchase 4 more retail games for it and a handful of eshop games. It will be the most games I've ever purchased for a system.....but the boys account for a lot of them. Still as I mourn its death I hope I can pick up a new Wii U cheap so I can pack it up and play all the games again when I kick my kids out into the cold streets of reality.
Hopefully Super Paper Mario does well, and more people are starting to appreciate it. Its partners (the Pixls, I mean) weren't as loveable as Goombella and the rest of the crew from TTYD, but the story surpasses its predecessor, in my opinion.
Will grab Paper Mario 64 for the upgrade price, but that's it for me this week. Still good to see Mega Man 7 on the new 3DS.
@Gerbwmu My kids got Pokken Day 1, played about a week then brought it back to Gamestop to trade in. They din't like the 427 trade-in offer for a 1 week old $60 game so they kept it, but I don't think they'll go back to it very often. They are still playing XCX tough, that game is an addictive time eater, which may have hurt Pokken time. Mario Maker is an occasional thing here and there.
I didn't mention TMS#FE b/c that's really soon, so it really isn't something out there still.
Maybe you should wait to see if NX is BC w/ Wii U games before buying a new Wii U? Could happen.
@Grumblevolcano "Federation Force Direct in July"
Oh, that would go over well.
I think NX reveal in Fall was a given once Ntineod announced it would launch in March and not be at E3 in June. Fall was kind of the defacto reveal time frame, though I suppose some may have been hopeful for summer. But if "Summer", then why not just do it at E3? And if Nitnedo had said "summer", I'd still expect it in fall, nobody at Nintedo HQ can read a calendar.
No ND at E3 meant to me, why ever do one ever again? And I left out TMS#Fe b/c I thought it was in a few weeks, M&S Olympics in late July or early August around the time of the actual Olympics. Wow, both those games in June means the last half of the year, 6 whole months, only has Paper Mario on Wii U. And it got a whole whopping 15 minutes at E3. Not even Devils Third or Fatal Frame? OK, maybe we do need a Wii U ND, but if they have more games, E3 would have been the time, no?
Poor poor Wii U, R.I.P.
oh look everyones downloading their fresh copy of mother 3!!!
go ahead and hit that little heart icon
I'm only getting nothing here because I still want to get Kirby: Planet Robobot, plus the Zelda Oracle duo while they're on sale. Then I'll shift to Rhythm Heaven Megamix... probably.
It's been a while since I had this many 3DS games on my "Buy ASAP" list.
@ogo79 I don't even like the Mother series, and I gotta download it! Who knew they'd release it for free, with a demo of Metroid Prime 4 and F-Zero NX (naming scheme checks out) with it?
Downloaded the Rhythm Heaven demo last night, was enough to convince me to get the game when I have spare funds which is not right now.
@World
dont tell anyone else
@rjejr Yep, Color Splash is the rest of Wii U for 2016 after next week.
Super Paper Meh-rio. Like seriously!
I bought SSB for the 3DS on the E3 sale, nothing more for me.
Was really hoping we'd see a suprise VC release, but looks like it aien't happening. Mega man 7 could be an interesting pick up since I've never fully played through that one. Then again I have too much stuff to play as it is, just recently started playing FE: Birthright and really loving it.
I remember reading Japan had Mega Man 7 on 3DS VC a while back and got really excited and was wondering when it would come here. This was an awesome surprise today since I thought it would still be quite a while!
And Rhythm Heaven was an awesome surprised yesterday! I thought that game was still a month or two away.
Awesome surprises all around and I haven't felt that way for a Eshop update in a long time.
Yay, Drill Dozer!
Emily Rogers, you said we will get Mother 3 and we didn't.
@LegendOfPokemon I can't help but wonder if the Wii U will feature the game's use of rumble
@Don
what game do you think will be officially released (in the west) first?
Mother 3
Half Life 3
Kingdom Hearts 3
Already bought and downloaded Megamix. owo
@DarthNocturnal Well, whaddya know?! Super Paper Mario! 😆
Also, for those of you who know the previous Rhythm Heaven games, don't be fooled by the shortened versions of your favorite rhythm games. The originals are still in there. (most of them anyway)
@Megumi_Sagano Brilliant. I need that game in my life.
Did Built to Scale make it in? Please say it did...
@Vee_Flames I think Fever's and GBA's are in, no clue about DS's version, though.
What an amazing week for the eShop, with the big sale, solid DL Update, and multiple demos. Thank you, E3.
I grabbed RH Megamix last night and am grabbing Drill Dozer and Super Paper Mario today!
Nothing this week, but I may consider grabbing Super Paper Mario at a later date if I'm unsuccessful in finding the $19.99 Nintendo Selects copy near where I live.
Legend of Kay Anniversary for me. That $6.49 price tag is too good to pass up.
Glad to see Mega Man 7 on the eShop, but for my money, Mega Man X would have been far more welcome.
Where are the NES and Gameboy VC titles? SNES VC is so obviously a cash grab at this point that they don't even bother to give older models some VC too.
Pass.
I love SPM, but I still have my physical copy of it, so I have no reason to buy it again. I'm not a fan of Rhythm Heaven or Mega Man, and Terraria looks better on PC. I might consider getting Drill Dozer at some point, though.
Rhythm Heaven and Drilldozer.
I would also jump on the Project Mirai discount but I already have it.
Demo of Dark Witch 2 is interesting too.
Rhythm Heaven? I can never pass up another one of those! Been hooked since the GBA one.
Also that Legend of Kay price is a steal! I already have the Wii U one on disc and digital on PS3, though. I think I'm good. (Speaking of that, the Wii U one was patched recently. Wonder what it was for.)
Everyone should at least try the Rhythm Heaven demo!
I bought Rhythm Heaven, and I LOVE the beefed up presentation, but so far the games themselves have just been shortened versions of games from other entries in the franchise. I was particularly disappointed in the flying badminton game pulled from Rhythm Heaven Fever, because this version was half as long and didn't include the musical cues that made the original hilarious. Also, it's insanely easy; I've gotten "superb" on 30-some games on my first try. :/
@TeslaChippie
The shortened versions are for newcomers. The original version of all of these shortened minigames are included later on.
The way it goes is each section has four games - one of each from GBA, DS, Wii and then a new one. So yes, most of them are from previous games.
I bought Poke'mon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire. I played that game to death on the GBA and will also on the Wii U.
@TeslaChippie Megamix contains three large "segments" plotwise, and you are still in segment 1. You'll find your original uncut "ba-bam-bam-bam" in segment 2 or 3, which one I forgot.
@Grumblevolcano "Yep, Color Splash is the rest of Wii U for 2016 after next week."
I'm secretly hoping you are mocking my forgetfulness, there's a whole list of games you know about that I can't remember, and you just left off the at the end of your sentence.
I mean its' still $299, must be a bunch of holiday titles coming to support that price.
@rjejr Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE comes out next week, so... it has four games "coming up."
@IronMan28 E3 is over, so June is over, so the two June 24th games have already released.
Now what I would really like is for somebody to correct me on the July - Dec 6 month time frame. 6 months, 1 game, does not compute.
@rjejr indies exist
MM7 on 3DS for me. Do I can finally finish it instead of hooking up my Xbox plus now I have MM 1-7 on my handheld
@EarthboundBenjy @HADAA Thanks guys I got there eventually. I'm all for making the game more accessible, but that was a LOT of tutorial. It's kinda jarring coming from the hard-as-nails Rhythm Heaven Fever. Nice that it gets better! ^-^ And it's also fun having some of my favorite minigames from the Wii on the go!
I picked up Kirby and the Rainbow Curse for the Wii U and Majoras Mask for the 3DS. I'm thinking about getting Legend of Kay too as it's cheap. Next week I'll be getting Tokyo Mirage Sessions, so that'll really be me set for the summer.
I wish that they'd had all the Zelda games on sale, as Phantom Hourglass, ALBW and Twilight Princess weren't included.
I didn't even know Rhythm Heaven was out yet. As soon as I saw this article I did a double take and grabbed my 3DS to download. I also didn't realize that Drill Dozer got brought over here... Dang it I loved that game on GBA now I'mma have to hook my Wii U back up to buy itl
Just wonder. Why still there is no Gamecube Virtual Console ?
Some Gamecube games are really good. Let's say Paper Mario TTYD, Harvest Moon Magical melody, Kao the Kangaroo Round 2, etc. Give one more chance for Nintendo gamers to play Gamecube games on Wii U by Virtual Console, not by illegal hacking like some people did.
@Anti-Matter I think it's because of the GameCube's L and R triggers - the Wii U controllers don't have the analogue function that the GameCube's controller had.
I know that there exists the Wii U GameCube Adapter, but I think Nintendo wants to avoid a situation where it's required to own the adapter in order to play a game.
I also know there's many games that don't utilise the analogue triggers too, but I think they wouldn't want to introduce GameCube games to the Wii U without the ability to sell Mario Sunshine and other games that do utilise it.
@World I'm Crazy into it!
Get Terraria, if you like that kind of game! I got it on the EU eShop earlier. The Wii U implementation is really great. Fantastic Gamepad support and very good multiplayer support.
Why still there is no Gamecube Virtual Console ?
Probably because the Game Pad wouldn't function as a Gamecube controller. In particular the L and R trigger buttons are completely different to Gamecube. For games like F-Zero GX, the harder you hold it down, the faster you accelerate.
DRILLDOSE~$RAS#%TGRESGDFSF345%$^ZDG!
SHUTUPANDTAKEMYMONEY!
that is all
Super Paper Mario for me! Maybe Rhythm Heaven Megamix someday also. Never actually heard of Rhythm Heaven until just recently when it was announced. I'm hearing that the other games in the series are great so I'm pretty interested, especially since I like this genre pretty well!
@rjejr, Oh, you!
