Ubisoft is a successful company, and like all money-spinning corporations is always looking out for potential opportunities to produce hit games. There are irrepressible rumours / leaks of Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle for Nintendo Switch, so it's only natural to wonder about past attempts to bring the franchises together.
Liam Robertson, well known for his work with Unseen64 and other ventures, has shared a video and some concept art from a crossover adventure game that never got past the early stages for Wii. It seems Ubisoft was keen but, at the time, Nintendo wasn't particularly interested.
There's a certain inevitability that we'll see the brands collide either today in the Ubisoft conference or in Nintendo's Spotlight / Treehouse broadcasts. We'll be live streaming and blogging on them all as they happen here on Nintendo Life.

Aaaaaaand now it's gonna happen.
Why is this happening? I get more games is good and all but... Why?
Give it a chance
I'll try give it a chance, but the simply idea is disgusting to me. I'll try to be proven wrong.
This will definitely be announced tomorrow at the Spotlight. Nintendo seldom, if ever announces games with their main characters in it at another Dev/publisher's conference. Although I suppose they could announce it today and show more of it tomorrow.
GOTY
I'm optimistic. If u don't like it don't buy/play it.
@Kalmaro Insert joke about Rabbids multiplying like actual rabbits
@Angelic_Lapras_King /facepalms
I get the whole "Dont buy it if you don't want it" by it Nintendo is a business. I'd imagine they wouldn't support games that don't look like they would sell. Then again, people said the same thing about Smash...
@Kalmaro Considering Nintendo doesnt always slaps Mario's face on any game by someone else these days, I'm at least hopeful this is a game they have confidence in. If it were a horrible game, that could damage the Mario brand....
With the rut that mario rpgs seem to be in, I really don't think that adding what essentially boils down to the "Minions" of video games to the mix is gonna help. Personal vendetta about rabbids being extremely annoying and a cancer that nearly single-handedly killed Rayman aside, I don't see how using these particular characters will improve the game, or why they wouldn't use more fitting and iconic characters, such as Rayman and Globox.
So excited to hear about this game. Hoping it'll be in Ubisoft's conference though.
(Also, off topic, but I'm praying for a new Splinter Cell)
I'll have to watch the video later when I have sound but I'm already a little confused how apparently Nintendo turned Ubisoft down on something like this back in the Wii days when the Rabbids were at the height of their popularity but now are on board for the idea when the Rabbids are pretty irrelevant overall.
They could've gone with Rabbids vs. Minions or something, leave Mario out of this! It's bad enough the Mushrom Kingdom is being overrun with Toads recently.
I hope it's announced tonight. I'd rather not waste any of the precious time in tomorrow's presentation on this game. With that said, I'm reserving judgement for now. I've never played a Rabbids game as they haven't really interested me in the past, but the art for this is... interesting at worst, and intriguing at best. I'll be watching closely, but won't trash the game until we've seen more of it and/or something definitive.
Honestly I kind of find the concept pretty decent. Give it a chance, it might actually be good.
If it looks good, I'll consider buying it. If it doesn't interest me, I won't.
What is completely counter productive is taking time out to hit message boards and news story comments, dispairing that it shouldn't exist, or using expert judgement to decide it'll be rubbish, despite having not really ever seen any gameplay images.
@Angelic_Lapras_King I hope this game does well, just for Mario's sake.
I think the problem is that pretty much everyone likes Mario but the rabbids are hated and by pairing them up there's a worry it could devalue Mario/Nintendo
I really hate the idea, however I'm sure Nintendo will have some sort of quality assurance in place to prevent this from being awful. So there is a chance (and I can't believe I'm saying this about a rabbids game) that it could be quite good
Interesting.
