During the Japan Expo in Paris, Junichi Masuda has revealed another new Pocket Monster for Pokémon Sun and Moon. It's a Poison/Fire-type and has a clear lizard-like design; a new trailer shows it in action.
The official website has also been updated with details, as seen below.
Salandit emits toxic gas, together with flames, from the base of its tail. This poisonous gas has a sweet smell, and anyone who unknowingly breathes it in will become dizzy. Salandit is not a very powerful Pokémon, but its cunning nature allows it to battle fiercely by throwing its opponents off balance.
Salandit females not only release toxic gases, they can also emit pheromones that attract males of all species, including Pokémon and humans. Inhaling these pheromones may cause opponents to be controlled by Salandit's will.
Salandit has the Corrosion Ability, a new Ability that no other Pokémon has possessed before. With the Corrosion Ability, it becomes possible to inflict the Poisoned status condition even on Steel- and Poison-type Pokémon.
What do you think of this new arrival? Let us know in the comments.

Hmm.... A lot of these Pokemon don't seem very.... Inspired. Their designs say to me that Game Freak are running out of ideas.
@Miles_Edgeworth I agree, it seems like they are indeed running out of ideas for new Pokemons, this one for my taste doesn't look like a "Pokemon" at all.
Hm... Komodo + Frog stance + Iori Yagami poison flame = Salandit ?
I dunno, something about the design I find quite appealing but then it also looks kinda basic. I have serious mixed feelings about all the currently announced poke on but at least the region and presentation is looking great.
love this one. the color scheme, the expression it has on its face, the typing.
The design of this one looks a little more basic to me than some of the other new ones they've been revealing.
It's to where I could almost see this one fitting right in Gen 1.
I'm not sure totally if I like it or not.
This one actually looks decent. It strikes a good balance between under-designed and gaudy.
@Tsurii I agree there have always been basic ones, but largely they were inspired and complex. However, out of the new Pokemon we've been shown, not that many have that complexity, and are just simple and basic, like this one here.
@OneEss_ are you forgetting ditto and muk? lapras and nidoqueen? rhydon and kanghaskan?aerodactyl and charizard?all these pokemon had obvious similarities to each other and were a part of the same generation. this is the same generation with a red and white ball with eyes. the same gen with a fire duck with a butt on its head. the same gen with a bunch of eggs...one could argue they ran out of ideas before finishing the first 150.
A mutant rat. How appropriate. Now where have I seen that before?
At the end of the day, they have over 700+ pokemon. Of course they are going to run out of ideas! Can you honestly expect anyone to make up so many species and keep them all as original as possible??
Gen 1 had simple designs, and really, I wish they would go back to that. I liked this little guy.
This Pokemon is almost as ugly as Drampa...
This design I like. At least more than the previous ones anyway.
One of the few new Pokemon designs I actually like. A poison/ fire lizard is pretty cool. I want one!
@GrandpaPixel
Hm... Maybe they should take a look some Heartless or Nobodies design from Kingdom Hearts series. There are some unique monster design. Just only for reference.
Looks really cool and has a nice unique type. I hope they aren't going to reveal almost every new pokemon like they did with x and y though
@Anti-Matter Yeh but there are only at most 100 of them in total. That is a much easier accomplishment
@Miles_Edgeworth It looks really cool in game.
There was a technicality in Gold and Silver that allowed you to inflict poison on Poison and Steel types.
The Bug type move Twineedle can inflict poison, which neither poison or steel types were immune to.
In any case this corrosion ability is very interested and if Salandit's line is OU material, could shake up the meta a bit.
I like this one. It looks cool, and the fire and poison typing is interesting.
For those complaining that this is too basic, remember that we had Seel, Ekans and Ratatta. Plus, people complain when designs are too complex.
Personally, I favour the simpler designs that look like creatures that could exist in the real world.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE where have you a rat from?
Can't wait for NL to take a dump on Sun&Moon pokemons like they did with B&W
Already earned a spot on my team, what a cute little lizard fellow! I'm pretty excited for Sun and Moon, and I hope tha--
"they can also emit pheromones that attract males of all species, including Pokémon and humans. Inhaling these pheromones may cause opponents to be controlled by Salandit's will."
wait what lol
@Miles_Edgeworth The classic "running out of ideas" phrase :') I missed that! Jk.
@Vegaphil Its head looks more like a rat than a lizard.
Those type weaknesses though. Water, psychic, ground, rock... Yikes.
I think it is meant to be a salamander lizard so they have the shape right. I like the little guy!
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I think you perhaps need your eyes checked.
Also it's name is literally Salamander Bandit
Wow, this could be a monster provided it gets an evolution with a nice stat distribution. And I like the design - a salamander/lizard. It's surprising this is the first one with this type combination, fire and poison fumes go well together thematically.
Kinda figured it would be a Dark, but whatever...new type combos are always awesome. Still waiting for a Bug/Dragon Poke. lol
@SLIGEACH_EIRE riiiight. You know those aren't ears, there meant to look like a bandana.
@SpykeKat Yep 😜
Poison-Fire and this sneaky eyes? Perfect for me, I hope it will be available early in the game.
@Detriment-hip-ho Yeh I'm sure it will, that was the case with some of the Pokemon from X and Y
Easily my favorite new pokemon yet! Love the look, typing, and ability. Really awesome, I can't wait to have one on my team!
Ooh! I like it! Perhaps it'll turn into a monitor lizard?
Aaaahhh SPOILERS!!! Please leave images in the article and off the main page.
Love the look of this one and I don't care if it looks basic. Definitely will be a part of my team. This seems like the Team of this generation might have these as Pokes. I think it looks amazing.
Watch what happens when a magic bounce Pokemon is used against it.
Love the design and the concept. I like how they are trying to to really come up with some cool new abilities to shake things up.
Dammit, what's up with spoiling the entire game, Nlife? Stop throwing new Pokemon in our faces. Use a question mark image so we can decide if we want the game to be ruined for ourselves or not.
@Yasume the only thing they won't spoil is "analyst" name in the title.
And the fart jokes just write themselves.
Except the farts themselves "smell good" and make you feel dizzy... which, again, is a result of a gas leak.
@Marakuto much like your gif, it will be hee-hee-larious
Salandit females seem potentially a bit... questionably coercive. I wonder if it would make sense to pick the female avatar to minimise risks of your player becoming mindwashed from the pheromones of a scrawny, poisonous rat-lizard...
YES YES YES! I don't care if it's ugly, the world needs more poison types!!!!
but... the weaknesess , oh my god D=.
"Salandit is not a very powerful Pokémon"... is this talking about its stats? D=
I like it! I generally don't use many poison pokemon, but I could definitely see this one getting some time on my team.
Everyone here talking about the design, but good gracious, I'm scared in my boots about this ability!
It looks like it should be something from Kojima's Death Stranding, with it's own finger/pad print on itself
Guys, come on. Every generation has a point where they run out of ideas and make some weird 'mon, ESPECIALLY gen 1; Voltorb, Eggxecute, Muk, Dugtrio, and Magneton are examples. There's also Ditto, Cascoon, Burmy, Vanillite, and Klefki in subsequent generations. Every gen has bad Pokemon. Salandit, on the other hand, looks amazing. Give me that thing now!
I like it, looks like it got its head stuck inside a Trubbish.
Whoa, Corrosion? I'm liking this.
I like it so I don't know what people are complaining about :/. Honestly most of the designs in my opinion are great so far and these new abilities that all these pokemon have are showing that Game Freak is really trying this generation it seems.
EDIT- Then again I may be a little biased on this one since a fire salamander is already my favorite Pokemon so having another may have gotten me excited .
Wow, a new design that I like! Definitely better design-wise than most of the last batch that was revealed. I'm interested in seeing how this one evolves.
Hi. The salamander bandit Pokemon. And salamanders are known for apparently being able to control fire, and making a salamander, often a poisonous animal in nature, Poison type also seems pretty good. The ability doesn't seem like a whole lot to me. Otherwise a new dual typing combination, a new ability, and design doesn't seem that bad to me honestly.
I actually quite liked most of their designs. And I don't expect to like all of the Pokemon.
Please tell me if evolves into something stronger. This sounds like the perfect Pokemon for people like me who despise fairy and would love to annihilate them all.
I like it!
A relatively simple design (salamander with some alligator bits), something that people often crave from Pokemon, but with the correct color scheme and coloration for a Pokemon meant to be a tricky Poison type. Corrosion looks like a Usero ability that isn't OP. And I think a Poison/Fire type has a niche. You can bypass Poison's uselessness against Steel, devastate Fairy, Bug, and Grass types, and resist a few more, at the expense of a quadruple Ground weakness and a few others.
Sure there have been other Pokemon with vaguely similar designs, but there is room for more than one group of lizards.
Oh Arceus that's terrifying
Definitely a way in the right direction, it feels natural, kinda like Rockruff and Komala.
YESSSSSS This one's awesome and AMAZING! It's got to be my favorite pokemon thus far next to Vikavolt - and it's typing combination is just plain awesome. I really can't wait for more!
Salandit = Salamander + Bandit anyone?
@Dave24 Michael Pachter is the Pokemon Champion in Sun/Moon
I think the design is awesome. Everyone is saying this doesn't look like a true Pokemon and that the design is lackluster but if anything, this design reminds of a first generation Pokemon. It's simple yet distinct from anything in the real world.
I find the type intriguing. I also like the ability, never heard of it before but, I think I'll enjoy using it. I can also see this evolving into something I might like the look of better.
Ahhhh I get it-
Sal- salamander
andit- bandit
Salandit= Salamander Bandit (hence the mask on his face)
I'm probably just slow.
@Miles_Edgeworth
I agree, it seems like the new Pokémon were rushed.
I tell you what I really don't like- the design of the new Pokedex.
Looks ridiculous. Like a bath toy for under 3's.
Oh wow, I love this one. Poison-Fire sounds neat and I love it's face.
("Running out of ideas"? I know, a Fire-type salamander is not very creative, huh? What were they thinking.)
This pokemon is fantastic, in my opinion. A bit weird, but I think it's the best from the bunch.
Alright, we finally got a Pokémon directly based on the mythical salamander! Sure, there was Charmander, but that was just a quirk of the localized name with the line more closely related to fire-breathing dragons (despite only recently gaining a method to become a Dragon type).
@SLIGEACH_EIRE SALAndit as in SALAmandra as in not a rat.
I see this argument a lot, that it 'doesn't look like a Pokemon'. What criteria is it missing? Let's say that people who use that argument are comparing it to Gen 1 Pokemon. Is it because it's based off of a real animal? No, most Gen 1 Pokemon are. Is it because it looks like it's wearing an article of clothing? I can see the bandit bandana. But that can't be either since multiple Gen 1 Pokemon do as well (Machoke, Machamp, Hitmonchan, Jynx). Is it the lines of lava on its tail? Pokemon can't be able to produce lava. But.. oh, wait, Magmar's a thing.
Dang. I just can't think of what the criteria could be that magically excludes it from looking like a Pokemon.
I don't see how it doesn't look like a Pokemon. Sure, not a Pokemon we're used to. But that's because it's brand new. It hasn't had a chance to be played with or experienced so of course it doesn't feel like a Pokemon yet because we don't have the context.
As for Game Freak running out of ideas, I challenge you to gather some friends and family and come up with 800 or so completely unique monsters and have them all be completely different. Hell, despite all of the variety in the actual, real animal kingdom, I bet you couldn't list 800 real animals that are all completely 100% unique.
He seems pretty unique to me. His ability sure is. I don't recall seeing a salamander Pokemon that looks like it's wearing a bandana before. It also has a unique typing! That's a new idea. Granted? Magmar and Magmortar should have had that typing.. But they don't.
This is for everyone who uses the empty 'it doesn't look like a Pokemon' argument. If that's the case, then everyone should pitch in and give a list of criteria that's required for it to look like a Pokemon. Maybe Game Freak will listen.
As for my opinion on this Pokemon, he looks like he'd be pivotal in the competitive scene because of his ability, and I think that the Gen 7 meta is gonna be unlike anything we've seen before, that it'll come down not necessarily to type match ups, but to what abilities can be utilized at clutch moments against unsuspecting opponents. I love the design of Salandit and I hope it evolves and if it does, I can't wait to see the designs.
Love it. I wonder if the people claiming this doesn't look much like a Pokemon are the same ones who like the 5th generation games. Those are the designs that don't look like Pokemon to me.
I'm assuming the name is a combination of salamander and bandit. It certainly looks like it based on the design.
Hello 4x Earthquake.
@Gridatttack Hello wasting a turn thanks to the floating balloon.
@Miles_Edgeworth Lets be honest, a lot of pokemon in all the different generations are not that 'inspired'
