Glad we've got someone new in there, compared to Reggie it was a stepdown. Felt like he was too serious and not flexible enough with gamers owning multiple Switch consoles and owning digital games. I think Devon will bring a lot of positive energy and good vibes moving forward.
It's insane how they run the company. You need to really educate yourself on Nintendo. Once they stop supporting online in the future like the old eShop, this will be useless. $100 for the virtual boy with games on a cart or permanent download would be welcomed
GameFreak needs to hire Atlus to make a Pokemon game that plays like the freaking anime series with full voice acting and cutscenes and a better graphical style. I'm thinking like DragonBall Fighters style look but not 2D. This is the biggest media franchise in the world with 28+ years of experience as a studio. Let's gooo guys!
@Theghostofkeithmoon yeah it's exactly this. MicroSD Express cards are insanely expensive and it's dependent on us to ensure we can fit games we play which means having multiple or shelling out more for a bigger card. I enjoy the physical product and being able to revisit it without the internet. I also really miss having game manuals, like many people under the age of 25 would have had limited exposure to even 360 and PS3 games which had manuals and maps and all sorts of cool stuff in them. Now it's maybe a QR code to a soulless manual. I was in GameStop recently and going through their older game boxes was awesome because they still have the originals in some of these. It's cost cutting galore first the manuals, then the game data next the plastic and case.
I mean Metroid and Silk Song are the real games to wanna play here, that guy can play all those games on literally any other console or PC. His opinion though, gotta respect the man's hype and not spoil his fun
I really like kart racers, I hope this one has a little bit more speed and agility than the last Sonic racing game that came out. It was a lot of fun and a I played it a lot but couldn't come back to it since it felt kind of "heavy"
I actually love this. Really reminds me of games without patches from my early days of gaming and just trying to exploit all boundaries and get out of the map.
Poor Xbox, Switch 2 sold more in a day than 5 years on the market. Games and a fun time are THE MOST important part of a console succeeding in the market
4th Game Key Card!!! I literally looked for games on carts. I have the money and am willing to pay for physical carts with full games on them! If I want to download I'll do it on Xbox
Nintendo really needs to stop being a bunch of dumb dumbs and let us cloud save ALL of our games and save files. If it's to stop cheaters or duplication of items who gives a rat's! I lost all of my data for Scarlet too when backing up my Lite and moving the data to my primary OG Switch. 150 hours gone in a (pokemon) snap! I don't get why they do what they do.
I was able to just walk in and buy one at my local game shop during my lunch break on launch day, no stress. I did have to drive somewhere else to get the Pro Controller but ample stock of things around the city. The Switch 2 cases are oddly hard to find though. I wanted to buy it now before the costs go up on it like PS5 and Xbox have had, inflation might force them to raise it or bundle something to justify a higher price 🥲
Is it just me or do other people think Doug Bowser is too corporate? It's impossible to replace Reggie Fils-Aime too so not quite sure. I certainly felt like Reggie pushed more for the gamer than just listening to HQ. Happy virtual cards FINALLY came out having owned a Lite and standard Switch only to find out on my vacation I needed an Internet connection to play my games which I didn't have 😭
Physical for life, if they're charging a $10-20 premium on top of last gen pricing they should at least include SOME physical copies. I'd pay in advance with a publisher for that so they can print close to the right amount of copies for their games
I remember returning my ROG Ally Z1 Extreme because the battery literally ticked down to zero like a slow clock. Hoping the battery life here can average 3-4 hours for flights and things like that. I can always plug in but sometimes the charge is not enough to compete with the drain on planes.
This game really looked bad on launch. Lots of slowdown and just not the same level of fidelity as other Nintendo releases. Feels like Gamefreak has their devs from 2004. I completed two Pokedex so not unplayable but expected more. Hope Switch 2 looks better but it's prob a minor upgrade
The Switch was really one of the greatest consoles of all time. I own a few of them but even since getting the Series X and ability to game on a proper TV it has been seeing far less usage. I poured hundreds of hours into so many good games. I even nearly cleared a backlog during COVID. Animal Crossing was amazing and I have several characters at the Smash Elite level but pretty sure the ergonomics also led me to have many times with sore hands after some minor gaming sessions. Pro Controller for the win on comfort! Will miss the Switch but given it's massive install base I think we will see games coming for another 3-4 years pretty easily. In no rush for the Switch 2 given the price point and many caveats to owning it. Eventually, some day might get it. I do love owning Nintendo consoles.
Tbh I might wait for a Pro version or Switch 3. The specs are pretty disappointing as it's just fishing out 2 Teraflops at most compared to 10-12 for consoles Sony and Microsoft dropped 5 years ago. Nintendo now has a niche were they're releasing previous gen games during the next gen for it's competitors. For most gamers around the world the output is excellent for a handheld device but I guess I'm just wanting more given how many PC handhelds are out there. I love the convenience of the Switch and how everything is optimized so I'll get a Switch 2 Pro someday
This launch will be remembered for being poor due to messaging and global trade. Maybe it is a controversial opinion but I think they should outright delay the launch of the console, see what tariffs have in store and change some of their decisions on the caveats people have to deal with. We will still buy it. This feels so old school and rule specific ,it's not very Nintendo friendly for casuals
Nintendo knows how to actually make games and design them well for people on the go or sitting at home. They'll be fine with this especially since they will be one the last-men-standing when it comes to console exclusives. I will buy this Day 1 if bots don't beat me to it.
The LOTR The Two Towers and Return of the King on the original Xbox (think it's the same on GCN and PS2) were the best LOTR action games on consoles in terms of book and movie tie ins. Shadow of Morder and it's sequel are the better overall action games but man, the combos and fun of playing as the full cast was amazing. Best tie ins for a video game and you even unlocked DVD commentary just for the games as you progressed. Games just don't do this anymore.
Absolutely crazy but seems like the norm for Pokemon goods now.
Related topic: Can we use "resellers" or "price gougers" instead of "scalpers"? It's like saying Redskins or other indigenous slang terms. I don't like resellers as much as the next person for the record.
Never really enjoyed Thumper, it always gets good recs here on the sales but I really dislike the game. Have made it through a good handful of levels but it's never hooked me.
Agree with a lot of comments above, I own so many of these! Good marketing from NLife haha, I always purchase because of the good coverage but also agree my backlog should not be a point of pride. Haven't bought anything for Switch in a long time but I have well over 100 titles and a lot of boxed games, Starfield will not help with any of this 😂
I picked up 4 of these, they just stocked them at a local store. I'm talking nearly EVERY Zelda amiibo. 8 Bit, OoT, Windwaker, Toon Link, BotW, Skyward Sword, Twilight Princess. I'm tempted to get more but can't fit them in my suitcase as I'm traveling :') have wanted a lot of them but they're always so expensive or sold out . I'd attach a picture if I could, will probably not see that again haha
Fix the game first, performance is appalling. It's frustrating at times, good in some areas. Like give us consistency that we pay for. Maybe they should switch back to 16-bit graphics while their dev team upskills and takes advantage of the Switch's capabilities like so many other great devs do on the Switch. I'll wait on the DLC, if the game is running smooth I'll pick it up, I thought Sword and Shield ran great.
Enjoyed the first game a lot, banter between party members and their stories was there but a bit hidden. I think this is similar to stories in real life, we don't always participate in our friend's lives every step of the way and help them achieve their goals in totality. But we are there in some way for key elements. My personal take which is why I love the series so much. Will definitely pick this up. Hope it comes to GamePass too!
You must not have 81 of anything lol I own over 100 games on Switch, probably 12-15 are "must have". That's an insane amount of cash to get 81 games in one sale! Sorry for getting caught up on the #. Some good games in there anyway
Such lazy collector's editions. I've got so many pins. $39 for all the dev work & production and the $39 more for a bunch of $1-3 items. Pass on the collectors edition. Might get the base game. I know it's industry standard for the collector's piece btw to include all of those types of items, massive profit and they're a business, blah blah blah.
Worked at a GameStop years ago, they only keep a handful of those items for first come, first serve people that pre-order. Lots of people cancel & not everyone remembers and it takes up storage space. Lame practice but not always a guarantee to get the free goodie. They probably have like 70-90% of the items depending on release & availability
@SwitchForce yeah weird, that's why I upgraded to the Family Membership. It's typically not an issue for my physical carts so I've been purchasing digital a lot less often. Support hasn't really been able to resolve but I'd like it to work all of the time lol
@SwitchForce did you know this can affect your total play time being captured? Example: I have 180 hours of Super Smash play time, 60 hours into my playtime I added my Lite & the system reset the count to 0 and then synced that across to the other console (as if I never played it). So fast forward 120 hours, it still says 120 hours despite it being 180. Super annoying (although it doesn't affect gameplay or my gaming experience), I raised a ticket with Nintendo support and sent screenshots but they could never rectify this or replicate the issue. Same happened for Hollow Knight and some other titles so I stopped playing the bigger games across both systems that I wanted to track total playtime on. Small issue tbh but annoying.
@Gamecuber THIS! Totally agree with this! I'd be getting more editions of the Lite if the account system wasn't so backwards. And I love the Split Pad Pro, everytime I switch back to regular joycons, my hands cramp after 20 minutes.
I've had a Switch Lite for a couple of years now & have had a different experience over time than the above for a couple of reasons, keep in mind this is because I also have a main OG Switch too as my primary.
First, when taking it traveling, it needs to constantly check for internet connections and if you forget to do this so it can verify your games before you leave your house, then you won't be playing any of your digital titles. Do this before you leave so you can play NSO NES & SNES games.
Second, if there is another person in your life and you don't make it your primary console, they won't be playing anything on their profile on your trip (this may also resolve problem #1). Even with a family membership, sometimes their cloud saves and ability to play certain titles didn't always work. So I cancelled the family membership shortly after testing.
Third, every year I've had the Lite the battery gets worse and worse. It can maybe last 2.5-4 hours tops instead of 6-9. I mostly have puzzlers, arcade titles, indies and a few small RPGs, so nothing pushing the boundaries which I keep on my OG Switch. So everytime I boot it up, I have to charge it for an hour. May as well dock it then and play on the TV right? Wrong, the Lite can't do that. So I just start playing my OG Switch.
So fast forward to today, my Switch Lite sits there in its case and I actually prefer to cram my bigger Switch or my Evercade (which doesn't ever need WiFi) with me on the go. I also use roll-up bags (Ziploc sells them) that push the air out of clothes on travel trips & really save a TON of room whilst keeping my clothes waterproof. The way those bags roll allows a small pocket of air for a Switch in a case too hehe. So those are my preferences for travel and I travel quite a bit every year. I'm on a trip right now when writing this and my OG Switch is right next to me.
I think buying a Switch OLED to play on your 55 inch TV doesn't make much sense? Maybe missing a "not" when saying " in the market for a Zelda OLED TO to play on a mahoosive telly"?
Last thing & I'll shut up, really wish Doug Bowser and friends at Nintendo HQ really made it simpler to access digital titles across multiple Switches for those of us travelling.
Anyway, really love that you shared your travel stories, which we saw more of these adventures NLife has been on with their Switches!
I always thought & felt from the marketing (plus Engage in the title) meant the focus was on combat & was not as big an effort or mainline game as Three Houses was. So don't really see that as a negative. Great to mention it in the review for those that haven't followed but thought the FE product team did a good job distinguishing this title.
@Fizza I think this is partially a joke? Pokemon launched in a terrible state compared to Elden Ring. I'd take janky Elden Ring graphics any day over Pokemon Scarlet / Violet, even in us most updated form today. I spent 50 hours in Scarlet and while the gameplay loop is great, the production values are just so low: voice acting, graphics, performance and story. Can't say the same for Elden Ring, had very few issues during my 200+ hours with the game (anecdotal evidence).
I wish Game Freak would really let Bandai Namco be responsible for development of their next mainline game, they did a good job with Snap & know how to make fantastic games with good graphics and high production values. We deserve a lot better as a gaming community <3

Anyway, really love that you shared your travel stories, which we saw more of these adventures NLife has been on with their Switches!
Re: Review: Fire Emblem Engage - Relationships Get Sidelined By A Thrilling Combat-First Focus
Re: Random: Elden Ring Mod Brings Pokémon Scarlet And Violet To The Lands Between
@Fizza I think this is partially a joke?
Re: Best Of 2022: How's Your Switch Holding Up After 5 Years?
@WanzerAce I swear I gave myself arthritis with the joycons, took me too long to make the change to the Split Pad Pro
