After a year of back to back jrpgs I'm taking a break from Ni No Kuni to avoid burnout (such a great game deserves it being a pleasure not a chore).
For a change of pace I'm trying my first visual novel (hybrid) - Dangdanronpa on my Vita. I'm utterly addicted. After 3 days I'm about half way through I think. It's so compelling.
I'll be wanting to try the Zero Escape and Ace Attorney series now too.
As s big Ghibli fan I've always wanted to play it, but for some reason I've been intimidated by the more active battle system, and it's length. It's like a mountain to climb. I'm 15 hours in and I died a lot a first, but doing the side quests is helping. Not sure if I'll reach the summit but I'll give it my best.
It'll be good preparation for Xenoblade Chronicles Switch remaster when that lands too (also long and more active battle system).
I beat Tokyo Mirage Sessions last night and I'm keen to finally start on Ni No Kuni which has been in my backlog since it came to Switch. I'm a huge Ghibli fan but I've been on a bit of an Atlus kick.
Talking of which I might give the Japanese demo of P5S another spin. It's rare a demo makes me want to do that. It'll be an agonising wait for the localisation given it's not even announced yet.
Altus are why I still play my 3DS. Probably more than my Switch in the last year.
It's been a frustratingly very slow start on Switch, but once they have the engine up & running for a few games, they usually start reusing it for future entries. So I'll probably be playing a library of Atlus games on Switch when the successor comes out.
When SMTV finally comes, I hope they use the engine for a Nocturne remaster.
I'm about 25 hours into Tokyo Mirage Sessions but progress has pretty much halted on the story whilst I do the side missions and keep my team levelled. The side missions seem important rather than optional for this game.
I'm away this weekend and I've taken my 3DS to chip away at Etrian Odyssey Nexus.
I really would like to try this as my introduction to the series, but my backlog is over 30 JRPGs deep. If I see a reasonably priced physical copy in the wild I might add it to the collection.
I finished up SMT IV this week (chaos route) which I really enjoyed, and I'm still processing the experience now.
I also tried the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon demo, which led me to purchasing Etrian Mystery Dungeon for my backlog for a tenner, which in turn led to me picking up where I left off on Etrian Odyssey Nexus last year. I'm just over half way through and it's really good. Hopefully I can make more progress before Tokyo Mirage Sessions arrives in the post later this week.
An Atlus game finally on Switch will tear me away from exploring their 3DS library. It shouldn't matter but the Etrian Odyssey and SMT demonica costumes helped increase my hype and seal the deal.
Wow. I hope all this attention translates into sales.
I understand why the game was censored, and that perhaps it could have been handled in a way that is more in line with the overall themes/message in chapter 2.
It won't stop me buying the game. Any big media release with management and economics involved will have a series of compromises from the original vision. Almost all of which we will never hear about.
I've cancelled my pre order for now because looking at my backlog this probably wouldn't be high up my list for a few months anyway. But I'll definitely be picking it up at some point.
Maybe it'll get discounted like Xenoblade Chronicles 2 did at retail.
The game is nearing the top of my backlog now, but part of the appeal is Ghibli's involvement. If they're not involved in the film then my interest wanes.
I was playing Pokemon Sword and although I really liked collecting Pokemon I wasn't really motivated to push through the story and gym battles.
So instead I'm now about 10 hours into Shin Megami Tensei IV and I'm having MUCH more fun.
I'd heard a lot about how tough the first boss was so I probably over prepared for it. I'm managing to hold my own so far.
I'm busy prepping for Christmas so I haven't started another epic rpg. I'm playing Link's Awakening (Switch) which is lovely. I've just got passed the 3rd dungeon, which was where I think I put the GBC 3DS game down a couple of years ago.
I have a bad habit of not finishing Zelda games, so I'd like to see this one through.
I'm not sure what I'll be playing this weekend. I'm a bit shell shocked after experiencing the ending of Persona 3 last night (and the election result).
The busy run up to Christmas probably isn't the time to get invested in another long jrpg, even though there are a dozen in my backlog.
Maybe Link's Awakening would be a lighter choice. Or I might pick Persona Q2 back up. I stopped once the P3 characters joined, I realised I wanted to experience them properly first.
There are so many more Switch games for this to compete for my time with that when I first picked up Treasure Trove, but I'm still looking forward to giving it a try.
@Krull enjoy Astral Chain. I need to get back into it after playing a couple of hours when it came out. It'll be a nice change of pace from the loooong jrpgs.
I'm still playing Persona 3 portable, a great and very long game. It's November in the game so I'm guessing I'll be finishing it up around next weekend.
I also picked up Pokemon Soul Silver this week as being an 80s kid I've never played a game in the franchise, whereas other SMT fans have often graduated from it from what I hear sometimes.
I stayed up into the wee hours last weekend and beat EarthBound, an absolute classic I'll never forget.
I've now started Persona 3 Portable over. I played until the first boss earlier in the year, but I was just discovering the SMT series and dabbled with a few games. Now I'm keen to finish them all. Fuuka has just joined my party and I might be enjoying it more than Persona 4 and 5 so far.
On Switch I'll be trying out the V2.0 characters Elizabeth and Adachi in BlazBlue CTB.

Re: Japanese Charts: Persona 5 Scramble Dominates As The Coronavirus Sinks Switch Sales
I hope the Switch numbers are enough for Atlus to keep bringing games to Switch.
Re: The Wonderful 101: Remastered Secures May Release On Nintendo Switch
As this is my first Kickstarter does anyone know who has backed a few when am I likely to get my account debited for my .... preorder?
Re: PlatinumGames Announces Project GG, A Brand New Game From Hideki Kamiya
It’s hard to get too excited without a bit more info.
The positive confirmation is that Kamiya is still making games. I’m glad I live in a world where that’s the case, but it’s not much of a surprise.
Re: Visual Novel Aokana - Four Rhythms Across The Blue Secures Western Switch Release
Great track, not sure if it’s my thing but I hope it does well so more niche Japanese games keep getting localised.
Re: Review: Samurai Shodown - This Blade Is Still As Sharp As Ever
I really want this, but I might have to hold of a little while for it
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (February 22nd)
@VenomousAlbino thanks, they're all on the list.
Steins Gate original or Elite?

Nier or Bayo 3 please!
Re: Atlus Understands The Desire For A Persona 5 Switch Port, Tells Fans To Remain Hopeful
Jeez, every time I make peace that this game ain't coming (and go back to my PS3 copy) it all gets dragged up again.
Some certainty either way would be nice.
Re: Catherine: Full Body And XCOM 2 Collection Rated For The Nintendo Switch In South Korea
Catherine would be day 1 for me. Atlus focussing on Switch makes so much sense once their teams get used to devolving and porting for it.

Re: Guide: Best Cheap Nintendo Switch Games - Switch eShop Deals (Europe)
I bought most of these full price back when there were fewer titles, now I can afford to be more choosy and await sales.
Re: Atlus Says Its Survey Asking About Switch Ports Exceeded Expectations
Given their history I expect Atlus to have games ready for Switch just as Switch 2 comes out.

Re: Video: Persona 5 Scramble Treated To Flashy New Trailer, Demo Arrives Next Month
I can't wait to try the demo.
I know P5 plays well on PS3 as that was the original platform it was being developed for (and where I own it).
I hope P5S looks and plays just/almost as good on Switch as it does on PS4, given its developed for PS4 too from the start this time.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (January 25th)
@JissuWolfe yeah, I've made peace with judging TMS on its own terms and not on what could have been.
But even then I found the setting and characters a bit bland and cutesy compared to the SMT, Persona & Fire Emblem series I love.
I'm getting over it as the game progresses!
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (January 25th)
Tokyo Mirage Sessions, I've just started the 3rd chapter.
As an SMT fan the characters and setting didn't leave a great first impression, but the gameplay has me hooked so now I'm along for the ride.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (January 18th)
@Guitar_bard I've just finished it myself. Enjoy, it's so good.

Ok I'll bite. I love all those games!
I might have to trade some games or an organ to get get it though. January is a lean month.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (January 11th)
I'm about 30 hours into Shin Megami Tensei IV.
I'm not sure how far I'm into the story as I've been having so much fun fusing demons that I've been taking my time with it. I've just got to Shibuya.

Persona 3 portable for me.
Bosses are starting to need a bit of strategy and Shinjiro has just joined the SEES.
I've also been playing a little Taiko No Tatsujin on Switch.

Very jealous of this sale! I'd probably buy all the Etrian Odyssey games I don't have yet.

Re: Famitsu Reveals New Details About Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore
I'm having to put aside disappointment at new content being added but not including the option for the censorered and uncensored versions.
And also stop thinking about what a cross over of 2 of my favourite series could have been.
So, based on what the game is not what it isn't I pre ordered yesterday.
At least it's my first Atlus game finally on Switch.

Cadence of Hyrule is at the right price for me now I think. Lawd knows when I'll have time to play it.
