Update (Wed 26th Feb, 2020 15:15 GMT): PlatinumGames has now shared a tremendously epic looking trailer for Project GG (see above), which calls the game "the powerful climax to the Hideki Kamiya superhero trilogy".
The man himself has also shared a message to fans, which you can read in full on the PlatinumGames website.
Original Article: PlatinumGames has lifted the lid on a brand new game currently known as 'Project GG', a title set to be directed by Bayonetta and The Wonderful 101 director, Hideki Kamiya
The news comes from the latest issue of Japanese magazine Famitsu (thanks, Siliconera), where it has been revealed that Project GG is a brand new PlatinumGames IP that the company will self-publish. Reportedly, the studio's new partner Tencent offered to publish the title, but Platinum turned the offer down in favour of having full control and ownership of the game.
In an interview with Famitsu, Kamiya says that the game is "Platinum challenging what [the company] hasn’t challenged before”, adding that “If Viewtiful Joe is like a Kamen Rider transformation, [and] if Wonderful 101 is a squadron, Project G.G. is like a huge hero.”
In other PlatinumGames news, the same issue of Famitsu reveals that the company's executive director, Atsushi Inaba, wants to open a new hundred-person studio in Tokyo. Project GG currently has 'about 15' people working on it, but Inaba would like this new studio to also work on the game.
It certainly sounds like Project GG is an ambitious effort, but Inaba confirms that he wants to launch the game on 'all available platforms at this time'. That sounds like Switch will be included to us, but we'll have to wait for more on this one as it develops.
Excited to see what Project GG brings to the table? It's a good time to be a PlatinumGames fan, that's for sure.

Ninja Gaiden GG
I was hoping they'd self-publish an original title.. Hopefully Platinum's interpretation of all available platforms doesn't exclude the Switch like it does for some.
A game so good it's literally named Good Game.
An announcement of a name, thanks for nothing.
@ReWane Untitled Good Game
"...Project G.G. is like a huge hero"
Project Giant Robot Returns!
They are really diluting my interest by announcing an announcement of nothing concrete at all.
Reveal the game with a trailer, or don't reveal anything at all. This is super childish.
I hope their next projects become just as successful or even more than Astral Chain
Is this really part of Platinum4? Because for me the website still displays today's date on the second star.
@Lugazz It certainly seems to be today's Platinum4 announcement, but we've got the news a little earlier than expected thanks to Famitsu magazine.
I imagine there might also be an online announcement for the game later today when the west has properly woken up.
This is like Capcom in the GameCube day’s admittedly they were all good games but it kinda has a negative effect on me
Anyway just get bayonetta 3 released
@ryancraddock Well, the only way to find out for sure is to wait. In the japanese site it displays February 27th, so we have a little more than 3 hours to wait.
Maybe they will drop more info in the website besides the announcement of a project! Or a totally different thing, who knows what is inside Kamyia's head.
Either way, Platinum news is good news.
Ok, now I want to know more. Now I want to see something!
as if you'd announce a game without even showing a graphic of the title as a bare minimum
@dew12333 @scottwood101 My thoughts exactly... this is a very silly “announcement” I’m kind of surprised news outlets took the bait
Trailer or GTFO. A codename is almost nothing. Hyped that Kamiya is involved I guess, but it's hard to get excited about what is essentially an announcement of an actual announcement at some undefined point in the future.
Boooooo!
Wow! Another announcement with absolutely zero information bar a title.
No doubt fanboys everywhere will wetting themselves and ign doing a 10 minute breakdown of what this announcement means but at the end of the day as it’s stands it’s just ‘The Emperors New Clothes’ so to speak
This is Such a anti climax.... Boooooo!
It’s hard to get too excited without a bit more info.
The positive confirmation is that Kamiya is still making games. I’m glad I live in a world where that’s the case, but it’s not much of a surprise.
I want mayo 3 now or am done!
Video game development studio is developing a video game. Not much there to get excited about yet. Time to completely forget about it until they actually show the game off.
I might be biased towards things with two G's, but I'm ALWAYS down for what these guys are up to.
GG, as in Game Gear?
Anyone saying this announcement is 'just a name' needs to take a minute and look up the games Kamiya has directed.
It doesn't happen often, but when it does, bars are raised.
Add to that no publisher interference and this is guaranteed to be the best game of whatever year it is released in.
If you don't think that's newsworthy you need to check yourself.
OK so if:
Viewtiful Joe =/= Kamen Rider
Wonderful 101 =/= superhero squad
GG =/= 'a huge hero'
Could this be Platinum's take on a Kaiju-style game, perhaps? Or mecha? Intriguing! Can't wait to find out more.
M
Best advice for Kamiya would be - maybe finish the games you’re currently working on before announcing new stuff. People want Bayonetta 3 or at least some concrete information on it.
Bracing for complaints from people who know absolutely nothing about development
#3 - Platinum has an idea for another game they might make. Expect a logo reveal in early 2021 with more details next year!
#4 - Platinum developers are are currently brainstorming to come up ideas for another other game they might make. More details sometime in the next 3 years!
Great it is a new IP!
Was concern it would be another port. hopefully get more news soon. That said, this could have been a press release. At least have a trailer
Would love an update on Bayo3 and Babylon's Fall
UPATE... got the trailer!... ANT MAN!!!!!! SOLD!
@Patendo if it's something you want, you'll definitely be back
So is that it? All that hype to reveal a name with no other information? Very odd stuff
There is a subtext here if you stop and think before internet reacting
An untitled becomes GG. Goose?
The siliconera translation seems to be a bit muddled.
While it's not quoted here, the twitter bit was the worst, completely misunderstood on siliconera.
Gematsu properly translated the full excerpt: https://www.gematsu.com/2020/02/platinum-games-announces-hideki-kamiya-directed-hero-game-project-gg
"The magazine shows a boy posing, body covered in a pale light, and transforming into a giant to fight against a kaiju."
So yep, kaiju battles. We might see that pic when the site updates?
@Crockin bracing myself from comments from people like you who pretend to know about game development yet post on here as some sort of gaslighting episode trying to make people feel belittled about posting.
@Fazermint it may not be particularly interesting. But how's it childish?
@Rodan2000 I’m an animator For a marketing company and have worked on a handful of games, including a DS game. I may not be in game development per se, but I do have an insiders perspective on how and why announcements like this drop when they do. Am I kind of a jerk about here? Sure
They were running low on ideas and just went for "good game". Subtitle will be "(we hope)".
@Crockin ‘insiders perspective’ Nobody cares! People on here want concrete information.
Project GG - a new futuristic horse racing game
The gang in Jet Set Radio are called the GGs so I’m hoping this is a new JSR game. 😉
Still waiting on official pics.
That reminds me, I want a new Ganbare Goemon game.
@Rodan2000 lol I’m saying there’s a reason they announce stuff like this without any concrete details. Be mad about it if you want, but it won’t stop the usual cycle of announcement, 1-4 years for release
Sounds like some mentioned above this might be something a kin to Ultraman from the comparison. It does seem really pointless to just announce a project name with no firm information about it. Hopefully there is more info today or this was a wasted announcement.
So yeah, it now reads "PRJ G.G" under the second star on Platinum4 website. They were waiting for February 27th in Japan.
But the star is not white neither is it clickable, so I think eventually they will release more info than just "so we are now working on a new game".
Not much to get excited about for now.
This is literally like Ultraman, which i'm so excited about. And i hope i'm wrong but i do have my doubts of it releasing on Switch though...
It sounds ambitious to be sure, and I think it's cool that they're working on a new IP. New blood in the gaming pool is always welcome. I just wish we had more details on the game itself outside of the code name. Time will tell.
So now we're getting the Ultraman to VJ's Kamen Rider and 101's Sentai? Sounds good by me.
@Rodan2000 There's a video trailer now if that helps? Looks like the Famitsu part just was a few hours ahead of the actual reveal.
I'm so confused reading all these comments after just watching that trailer. Sure, there's no game play in it, but it's way more than we've seen of Metroid Prime 4, Pikmin 4 or Bayonetta 3.
@ryancraddock How long ago did that trailer get added? Now that I see it's an updated I'm thinking a lot of these comments must be from before the vid was added.
Edit: As for the trailer, Pacific Rim works for me. Though I'm not a huge fan of 2D fighting games if this goes that route. I am a big fan of War of the Monsters on PS2, and the earlier Godzilla games - PS3/4 Godzilla sucks - so I'm really curious as to what this is. I thought it might be Scalebound at first but then he went all Jet Jaguar and that was that.
@Rodan2000 Asking people to stop and think isn't gaslighting, and if pointing out that a knee-jerk reaction is a knee-jerk reaction is belittling to the knee-jerker, let them be belittled; trying to rationally convince someone of their irrationality doesn't work, so might as well let shame at least curb the behavior.
"LET'S A GO GO!"
-something more to say
@rjejr all the comments to 50 were before the trailer was added
@rjejr Just a few moments ago. Most comments were from before, yep.
Cloverfield with Robots, the game.
@ryancraddock @AnnoyingFrenzy Thank you gentlemen. Sleeping in late has it's perks.
First people are exciting over standard functions being implemented into Animal Crossing, now people are excited for pre-announcements for announcements? Eye-roll Like we've taken a huge leap backwards in terms of expectations.
Getting slight Viewtiful Joe vibes... could it be?
Full on cheesy Kaiju goodness?
Yeah, I could get in to that!
@Fazermint
I completely agree!!
HOLY SH*T!! As someone who lives and breathes Tokusatsu, THIS is what I needed in my life. All aboard the hype train!!
Now dont get me wrong. An ultraman type game being made by kamiya has me inhumanely hype, but this is a super early announcement. They're still recruiting for the game for goodness sake. What's up with bayo 3 which was announced almost 3 years ago with nothing since? They should have kept this hidden while bayo 3 gets the spotlight
Project GG will involve horse as horses are called gi gees this I can confirm lol. This is just a joke of course I think it be like a space opera or something.
Looks great, yet all I care about is that the dog's ok!
I’m getting Cloverfield/ Godzilla/ Pacific Rim vibes from this.
Hope the Switch version doesn’t hold the others back in terms of graphic performance.
Steel Clad Ultraman expy? Sold. Put it on Switch Kamiya.
My phone won’t let me see the trailer above, but if Project GG will be an Ultraman or kaijuu-inspired game then I am on board with that!
UPDATE 2/27: Saw the trailer and ok, it is literally Ultraman, with a dash of Pacific Rim. Count me in! I hope it does make it's way to Switch or the Switch successor some day.
I'll be the pessimistic one and say I'm a little concerned at how gung-ho Platinum suddenly is. Bayonetta 3 was announced in 2017 and has nothing concrete. Babylon's Fall is a Square-Enix game by Platinum that, again, has nothing shown after years. They just announced The Wonderful 101 (although this one is apparently done already), they just announced yet another project that has nothing but a concept trailer, and then they say the next two announcements are also new things.
Can they finishing something before announcing a bunch of new concept projects? I feel like Platinum's getting a little too big for their britches after getting an investment from Tencent.
All this pr posturing is getting a bit tiresome. It also seems like just the kind of nonsense Kamiya wouldn't tolerate. I love Platinum and their games, but can they just get back to making and releasing quality titles please. They're announcing all this new stuff yet have other projects that were announced way too early and are still yet to be released.
I thought the industry had realised that announcing games too early just means that people are fed up of them by the time they come out.
Looks like Ultrman Gaia to me and I am interested.
Hmm, they keep announcing all those games. But do they have the workforce to bring them all to a good conclusion. I mean, Bayonetta 3 and Babylon's fall aren't finished yet, and they also have the Wonderful 101 port. Maybe a bit to much on their plate?
Sounds like Viewtiful Joe might be making a comeback!!! Henshin a Go-Go baby!!!
