NPD video game industry analyst Mat Piscatella, who regularly provides data about US gaming habits, has this week been taking questions from his followers on Twitter. Earlier on in the week, he revealed the best-selling third-party games on Nintendo platforms in the US and now he's been asked by Nintendo Life user Jaded_Alyx to provide details about the top-selling fighters on each major platform in the region (in terms of dollar sales rankings, as of October 2019).
While Super Smash Bros. Ultimate might not be what everyone describes as a traditional head-to-head fighter, according to the NPD it's the top dog. Pokkén Tournament DX, which doesn't quite always get the respect it deserves outside of the competitive scene, comes in at second and ARMS is in third place.
On the third party front, Mortal Kombat 11 places forth in its homeland and Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, which is arguably more comparable to an RPG with MMO elements, is in fifth. Mortal Kombat and Dragon Ball also dominate on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Keep in mind, some of the games listed do not include digital sales:
Twitter user @Jaded_Alyx asked about the top selling H2H Fighting games per platform. Mortal Kombat X tops both the PS4 and Xbox One lists, while Super Smash Bros. Ultimate leads on Switch.
Did you expect to see any other games on the Switch list? Any surprises? Share your thoughts below.

Wait, so digital sales were included for the 3rd Party Games? I'm guessing they report their numbers to NPD which makes me wonder why Nintendo doesn't.
You're welcome!
Other then Smash that list is disappointing to me. But I can still find matches in SFII so I cannot complain too much.
Based on >dollar sales, right. Absolutely skewed.
This is like when Guitar Hero World Tour topped the dollar charts because in addition to the guitar it came with a mic and digital drum set - sporting a price to match.
MK11 Premium Edition at launch? Same price.
I wish Dragon Ball FighterZ was in the top 5, at #2 imo . It's so quality and fun as hell.
Eesh. Just the same three IPs on both other console lists?
I hope we get to see a digital list, if just to see an indie fighter or something show up.
BuT SMasH IsnT A REaL FigHTIng GaME!!!!!!!!
I love Mortal Kombat, but the fact it outsells stuff like Street fighter or Blazeblue is kinda disappointing.
Disappointed there isn't any street fighter games there. I always felt like mortal Kombat was an inferior game
Pokken's bigger than I thought despite the minuscule competitive scene.
It's too bad Mortal Kombat X isn't on Switch otherwise it would had sold better than Mortal Kombat 11. So much for Street Fighter V being a PS4 exclusive. Not a lot of those people care enough to buy that crap since they know how big a ripoff it really was.
@AxeltheCorvikni Street Fighter V would had being there if it wasn't glued to Sony's behind this entire generation. Even the PC crowd weren't enough to make the game mainstream. Those who wanted to try the game but don't want to buy a freaking PS4 or don't play games on PC just ignore it entirely and those who do game on PC or had a PS4 don't often care about Street Fighter V due to its pathetic lackluster launch release and truckload of mediocre DLCs and micro transactions.
The collapse of Street Fighter and Tekken is quite apparent.
Poor Arc System Works!
Mortal Kombat 11 is a better game than Street Fighter V. It launched complete and it plays well
@westman98 tbh I was expecting see at least Tekken 7 in the PS4 list, but oh well.
I would be excited for Mortal Kombat but after watching SugarPunch’s video on MK11, I’m disappointed.
Here’s the video in question: https://youtu.be/2MjM1X7FbZ4
@Edu23XWiiU At least Street Fighter didn’t give anyone PTSD.
Sucks to see no SFV in top 5 for PS4. Not surprising though really, game had a terrible start with a paltry roster and like two game modes? 🙄
Smash Ultimate is the complete opposite and the sheer amount of content even without DLC is crazy. Obviously that strategy paid off in spades.
This list shows how badly Capcom screwed up with Street Fighter in recent days. Street Fighter V was very disappointing at launch and Ultra Street Fighter II was way too much money for what was essentially a port of a 10-year-old game.
I'm surprised no Tekken.
Not surprised in no Soulcalibur.
@tobsesta99 hahahaha that’s a good ones Arnie!
