Last week, as you might have heard, Atlus – responsible for series like Persona and Etrian Odyssey – rolled out an online survey in Japan. One question that stood out for Nintendo fans was focused strongly on the Switch – asking users about the possibility of ports for the hybrid system. Here's the exact question, as translated by Persona Central:
If previous Atlus games (games which can be played on other hardware, without adding additional elements) were ported to the Nintendo Switch, would you want to play them? Select all of the titles below that you would like to play on the Nintendo Switch.
Some of the games and series included were Catherine: Full Body, Persona, Shin Megami Tensei, Devil Summoner and Etrian Odyssey.
According to a message published on the official Japanese Atlus Twitter account, as highlighted by a user on Reddit, this is the most feedback the company has ever received on one of its surveys. The post on Reddit also noted it "makes sense" as a lot of big video game news outlets reported it.
We can only hope this survey is acknowledged by the higher-ups at Atlus and it leads to more of the company's games being released on the Switch. Persona 5 would be a nice start considering Joker has been available in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a DLC fighter since April last year.
What Atlus games would you like to see released on the Switch? Share your thoughts below, or have your say in our poll.

With how arogant the Nintendo community is at large, they don't really deserve any Atlus games. These are the same people who would b**** if SMT 5 was multiplatform, yet demand Persona 5 be on the Switch.
This is real exciting; we might not get P5 but Persona is Persona! Etrian Odyssey would pretty much annihilate my free time as well.
@QueenKittenWrite While that’ll be hard to hear for a lot of folks, it is rather true. It’s all well and good port begging for games like Persona 5 but people shouldn’t be allowed Bayonetta 2 and 3 on other consoles?
@QueenKittenWrite Although I would prefer the games multiplatform, in their defense the reason they want to have SMT edclusive is because Sony already has Persona. Of course you could still argue in that space. Just sayin'
Come on Atlus, bring it on already!
That's all well and good. But can we please get new information regarding Shin Megami Tensei V? The game was announced three years ago and was confirmed to have been in development since two years ago. In that same amount of time, Persona Q2 released on 3DS, Joker entered Smash with Persona 3/4/5 music, costumes, and a stage, Persona 5 Royal released, and Persona 5 Scramble (a canon sequel to the original that's coming to Switch despite the Switch not getting the original) is about to release.
Meanwhile, what does Switch get? Tokyo Mirage Sessions port which was okay but did not serve the masses very well and said P5 sequel which we won't understand. I'm just saying, that Switch owners deserve some attention too. I hope they deliver on that promise of news because SMT V has no gameplay, art, characters, or story revealed. Nothing. So ridiculous.
@QueenKittenWrite @nessisonett
Ohohoho no. On the contrary. I'd rather have SMT on PS and Nintendo AND Persona on PS and Nintendo. There has been nothing publicly stated that suggests Sony owns the rights to the games meanwhile Nintendo has openly stated they have the publishing rights to Bayo 2 and 3. It's different and nothing should be stopping Persona's main games from appearing on other systems, just like there's nothing stopping SMT because SMT 3 Nocturne was a PS2 game. But if more SMT were on PS then the Persona fans would respect it more because without SMT, Persona wouldn't even exist. More people to play it. And if Persona were on Nintendo, then people who know Joker from Smash won't have to buy an entirely new system just to play this one game to understand this one character. It's a win-win and Atlus gets more money. But I guess common sense is uncommon for big publishers. A console divide like this is foolish and serves nobody but the publishers. Everyone should be able to play everything.
@nessisonett Cuz Sony nor Atlus never confirmed any deals with the mainline Persona games. They just silently made it exclusive to the platform. That's the reason for the port beg because they think there's still a chance the games might get ported. And I'm sure we already know why Bayo 1 & 2 won't be multiplat. If Sony fans are port begging that then that's the time you can call them arogant for already knowing the fact that they're Nintendo-funded and still beg.
@nessisonett Just asking because I really don't know, but did Sony paid for Persona? Is there a contract that says is restricted to PlayStation only?
If not, then there's no sense in comparing it with Bayonetta because Bayonetta 2 and 3 only exist in the first place because Nintendo paid for it...
@QueenKittenWrite I wouldn't mind if SMTV became multiplatform, I never understood that exclusivity anyway. But we have Joker in Smash, and we'll have Persona 5 Scramble, the sequel of P5. Why the heck don't we have the original P5 on Switch already?? It's just nonsense!
@maruse
No. There is nothing that publicly states that Sony pays for main Persona titles. They have said they consider it an important exclusive, yes. But that doesn't mean they pay for it like how Nintendo paid for Astral Chain. We just don't know. As far as we know, Atlus could just be making poor management decisions (which wouldn't surprise me).
@nessisonett - But why only stop at Bayonetta when HAL can also publish Kirby?
@QueenKittenWrite - Pardon my completely wrong, totally self entitled and outright bullish arrogance, but...
... I don't see Sony's name on any publishing/developing deal with Persona.
@the_beaver
Exactly. These are just random exclusives "just because." It's not like Mario or Kratos or Master Chief. Everything Megami Tensei should be on everything I say. More people to play both franchises and understand them better.
@maruse Yes it really doesn't make sense to compare since it was never publicly confirmed if they had a deal or not. Whereas with the Bayo sequels P* was pretty open about it.
@nessisonett
As others have stated, Persona 5 and Bayonetta 2/3 are two different situations. Also, I’ve never begged for a Persona 5 Switch port, but Atlus conducting a survey to see if fans want these games on Switch has certainly opened the doors.
IMO requesting for P5 for Switch is already too long in the tooth. I'd rather they make P6 instead, on all platforms.
@JR150 Segwaying a bit but I do hope SMT5 revamps their Battle System in a way it can rival Persona's but not necessarily do a copy. Like having your character actually appear in battle and other stuff.
Hoping for more info this year.
@Zyph
I hope the protagonist is a defined character rather than a self-insert. I don't hate silent MCs but after playing Three Houses and Astral Chain (and what knowledge I have of Yu and Joker), I'd like to see something different.
Demi-fiend from Nocturne, Flynn from SMT 4, and Itsuki from Tokyo Mirage Sessions were all their own defined characters so it gives me hope that the narrative is carried by everyone this time around.
This is the rare time I go with the defense of no one is entitled to a game on a console because they want it.
Atlus doesn't have to publicize it's business deals either. Whatever the reason Persona's mainline games have stayed exclusive to Sony and if I remember rightly this survey doesn't even give it as an option.
@lordzand
But it’s a survey gauging interest in Switch ports. I see little sense in Atlus wasting time with this if they aren’t open to porting these games. It isn’t about being entitled. Atlus is literally asking their fans if they want these Switch ports.
Eh I’d take Switch ports as none of the games listed would tax the hardware and I’d have them on the go. With Sega’s less than amazing financial report a few weeks back I could see this as a good boost to revenue.
I don't understand Atlus; they know damn well the Switch crowd is practically begging for more ports of their games or a port of Persona 5. Yet? They don't do anything, they keep Persona 5 an exclusive, why? Who knows? Why is SMT 5 a Switch exclusive? I don't know either, idiots run Atlus, it seems.
I'd like Persona 4, 5 and Catherine Full Body
Atlus: “Wow! People really want Switch ports of our games! Who knew?”
Goes back to making PS games and ignoring SMTV
At this rate I will be playing Golden Sun 4 before SMTV.
Fanboys gonna be so mad when Switch gets Persona 5. I can't wait for the tears.
So
Catherine: Full Body?
Persona 4 platinum?
Persona 5 R?
Shin Megami Tensei?
Etrian Odyssey?
YES
This is making me want to revisit PERSONA 4: GOLDEN...
For a system that has nothing to play but boring AAA and shooters... I sure seem to have played tons of games on PS4 people want on Switch 🙄🙃🤔
Waiting for the "What NEW game you want on Switch" survey... any minute now.
I have P5 in my closet. Hopefully everyone here gets to play it sooner or later - great jRPG.
They never saw it coming
Dragon's Crown Pro please! Oh please do it Atlus! I'll pay the Nintendo tax, promise.
@nessisonett Did they delete their comment?
Well I broke down and bought a used copy of Persona 5, took my old PS3 out of storage, and started playing this past weekend.
What little I’ve seen of P5 so far makes me think it’d be a great fit on the Switch!
As I’ve stated before, now that I bought used, Atlus is sure to port P5 to the Switch to spite me.
Everyone can thank me later!
Sega say nope.
Zero reason for mainline Persona to remain PS exclusive anymore. It's a shame that Sega/Atlus will probably make nothing of this and continue business as usual. 🙄
Most people: Persona 5 on Switch just makes sense because of Joker in smash and PQ and P5S and whatever other reasons.
Me: Persona 5 on Switch makes sense because Sony dipped from the handheld market (i still love you Vita) and every mainline Persona game has gotten a handheld version.
@TechaNinja Oh right lol, didn’t notice. They basically said something mean about Nintendo fans and then said the same ones that want Persona 5 on Switch complain when Switch exclusives are talked about going onto other platforms.
Catherine on Switch would be pretty damn cool
the only good reason for exclusives is if the game is either owned by the console company or if they funded it. since atlus hasnt said abt why p5 isnt on non-sony platforms, its p reasonable for people to ask for ports.
smt isnt exempt, btw. smtv should absolutely be on ps and pc. maybe even xbox.
@Averagewriter
And SMT 3 was on PS2. So it's kinda ridiculous at this point.
I was gonna reply, but they closed it several days early cause of the volume...
“Can we have
Persona 5Trauma Center now?”Fixed the subheading for you 😜
The port begging for this is crazy.
They clearly don't want to bring it for whatever reason and I'd rather support devs who are willingly bringing their mainline games to Switch.
If Atlus can't see the writing on the wall for what a successful platform Switch is, that's their loss, IMO.
@Agramonte In this entire generation I've never once ever heard anyone other than you say that about the PS4. It's far and away well known the PS4 (like the Switch) is for a gamer of refined tastes. What you described was the Xbox One, as it's commonly known to cater to pew pew crowd of lower intelligence.
I’m honestly shocked it took a survey for them to realize how much demand here is for Atlus games on the Switch! The Persona series would be amazing on this system!!!!
Just port them all over already.
After Persona 5 Royal fell off a cliff in Japan, I would imagine Atlus is looking at revenue options. Makes me wonder for Shin Megami Tensei fans where the new entry is... 😑
Atlus Says Its Survey Asking About Switch Ports Exceeded Expectations
What else would they say? 'Our survey got very little attention'.
Yes please I’d love all the personas but 5 is probably the best.
@TYRANACLES
As far as story, P3 is still the best IMO.
Still want a P3 remake.. there really needs to be a definitive version of that game, that puts both FES and P3P into one package.
@nessisonett whay is that logic "if you want that one game to become multiplatform, then all of your exclusives must be ported everywhere as well"? There are many games that were switch exclusive, and now their continuations come to ps4 (and sometimes xo) like Inazuma 11, just like otherwise (Ni no Kuni).
@ObsidianEleven I’d love to play thru 3. I never have. I was kindve late to get on board with these games. I loved 5 and also know a lot of people loved 4. These games have a lot of character I can tell.
@Crono1973
"What else would they say? 'Our survey got very little attention'."
As far as I can find Atlus has never previously responded to the results of one of its surveys before.
And that's not the most notable part of the article anyway as the article mentions:
"this is the most feedback the company has ever received on one of its surveys"
@Averagewriter The only 'problem' with P3P was the travel system.. I mean, it was quick to navigate, but I prefer actually walking, to moving a cursor. Still, got to forgive it though, considering it's a PSP game. And you got the extra protagonist.
No surprise, honestly. Now to see if they actually follow up on it.
@Averagewriter I really do hate there's not a definitive version that takes the best parts from both FES and P3P. I would buy the crap out of it in a second.
Wait... so... the same Atlus that did all those GBA games back in the day, mostly remakes of, or sequels to licensed properties like Double Dragon Advance and River City Ransom EX is surprised that they have a lot of fans that want their games on a Nintendo???
if you go to their website it's pretty clear that by comparison NINTENDO DEVICES support the majority of their games!! to put this into perspective, Atlus has been supporting the Playstation brand quite a bit while not so much Nintendo yet the 3DS ALONE supports 24 of their games not including gameboy << compatible games. PS Vita only supports 14...
Sega said Persona 5 Royal sold poorly. No wonder Atlus did the survey, Sega is mad and most likely wants to release on Switch also. They need Nintendo fans to save Persona.
@GAMER1984dude2 Not that nobody cared, rather didn't expect anything from Atlus at all. it seems coincident but it isn't really. If you look at the recent trend, JRPGS have been finding their home on Sony machines with Nintendo being largely ignored, specifically by Atlus. We wanted their games. We just didn' think they would bother. (I personally haven't played Smash since Brawl let alone play Joker in Ult)
@mesome713 huh... Makes a lot of sense now...
@Borngis It's a profit vs risk formula. the 2 main reasons for certain exclusives are either a specific company paid for exclusive control/distribution of the licensed property (less common) or because the game devs feel they may lose more money going multiplat because of the time, labor, resources, and general manufacturing costs (more common) so they have their financial guys look at numbers to determine which choice will yield the most profit and minimize the most risk.
Basically, if they feel that one of their games won't be profitable enough by marketing to Nintendo users (typical excuse) they will instead cut out what they feel would be an unnecessary loss and stick with the platform they feel will bring in the most money. it's all based on platform sales (not really, it's actually based on narrow and general assumptions based on platform sales)
Weird, surely they knew people wanted the persona games on switch. I thought it was Sony stopping them from bringing the series to a Nintendo platform.
If they can bring a persona collection to switch it seems like a no brainer to me. I guess they'd try to sell each one individually though. Can't blame them really, but that's where the endeavour might fall flat. If I was them I'd release all of them digitally then have a special physical release with the whole series for £80-100. I'd pay £80 for the whole persona series on one cart.
@Old-Red
That'd make the most sense considering everything prior to Persona 5 was released on a handheld (Devil Survivor, Strange Journey, SMT4/Apocalypse) or the PS2 (SMT 3, Persona 3, Persona 4) meaning that they're better off just throwing the games onto the eShop tomorrow. Simple.
Portable Persona 5 ?Yes please.I haven't played it yet.I loved Persona 4 on my Vita.
top selling console in Japan even though Ps4 came out years before. hey guys would you want our popular games on the Switch that is also playable on the go??? duhhhh???😜
@PizzaCat Nope, do not want. SMT V instead pls.
Atlus: "Hey guys, do you want our games on Switch?"
Everyone: "YES! We've been asking for the last three years!"
Atlus: "Wow, really?
… you guys sure?"
Persona 5 and Catherine please
I bet they won't gonna do a single thing about it. This is just a survey collecting interest, they still had Shin Megami Tensei V they need to finish first. The Etrian Odyssey games may had a chance but the Persona games may likely just wishful thinking.
Well, they probably wouldn't ask us if we wanted these Persona games if they really had a contract with Sony for exclusivity (unless the contract was time limited).
But it would be plain stupid if they didn't react to such a massive response to the survey, especially since they made the survey themselves... I know some say that it's just a survey, but I can guarantee that companies don't make surveys just for fun. There's always a reason behind it
@GAMER1984dude2 wow what a empty zoomer non life kid
I think P5 just makes sooo much sense on switch,
Pleeeeeease give us Persona 5 now? Surely we’ve finally proved how much we want the game on Switch??!! I wouldn’t be surprised if it even outsold PS4, eventually.
Oh and if Atlus would give us P4G, Catherine, Dragon’s Crown and Odin Sphere as well, that would be dandy 😊
And a little update on SMTV wouldn’t go amiss either!
@ctc78 except for the limited places where you can save in the game... It's not that on-the-go friendly -_- (I hope they make a solution if it gets ported)
Now watch as Atlus does nothing after looking at the results of the poll.
@BarefootBowser
But doing that doesn't support the developers who made the great game in the first place. We want to actually give them our money here.
@BarefootBowser
Then you just wait to see if it gets ported or just let it go. Excuse me if it offends anybody, but buying a new console for just one game is not good money management
Persona is just watered down SMT for teenagers anyway. Ports of older SMT titles and other series would be nice, but first deliver SMTV.
a record number of participants I WONDER WHY 😑
@QueenKittenWrite You are right but that can be said for fanboys of any console. Do you not remember the pure nerd rage when Bayonetta 2 was announced as exclusive?
Can I be greedy and say all
Cool this and Yakuza is what Sega does best now. Its gonna be announced im sure.
@KBuckley27
So many that they closed the polls early. It was originally meant to go until the 12th but they stopped it lmao
@JR150 a Japanese only survey taken up by their western audience not surprising they take it down early, people need to realise nothing will come from this survey
@QueenKittenWrite well as I don't own any other current consoles I would love to see some of these come to the switch. As to people complaining about games being multiplatform or not, they might need to think about what makes them like a game to begin with. That reasoning is so absurd to me.
@KBuckley27
Eh, even so a Japanese survey taken by Americans/Brits/Aussies/etc shouldn't just be ignored. That's pure proof that everyone on the planet wants these games on Switch because I saw loads of comments in Japanese asking for the same things as well. But what do I know?
@GAMER1984dude2
You’re not mainly any sense. It doesn’t matter why anyone wants it and P5 is not the same as Mario Kart. Stop with the nonsense please.
@nessisonett
Persona 5 is a third-party game. It isn’t funded by Sony. Bayonetta 2 and 3 are funded by Nintendo. Different.
Given their history I expect Atlus to have games ready for Switch just as Switch 2 comes out.
It’s almost as if the Switch is gasp popular! Especially in Japan!
I bet Atlus would love to get another bite at the apple for Persona 4: Golden. Since it was a Vita exclusive it suffered as a result. Not horribly, mind you, it was one of, if not THE MOST, successful game on Vita, but not many people had one. I'd be very happy with a Switch port, and hopefully we could also see Persona 3 (portable probably, not likely FES) and P5.
@QueenKittenWrite Sony don't fund 3rd party exclusives. They just bribe the developers to not release it on other systems they target. They are the most cancerous company of the industry.
@glaemay
Yeah. I mean they locked off the Survival Mode of Modern Warfare 2019 to PS4 FOR A YEAR. By the time Xbox and PC get the mode, the next Call of Duty will have already released alongside the next gen systems. Whether you like CoD or not isn't the point. The fact that Sony (and Activision) would agree to knock Xbox and PC users out of an entire mode is egregious when you consider that all previous versions of CoD games had survival included. Even the Wii version of MW3! Just imagine a version of the game missing the renowned Zombies mode. Everyone would lose their minds. Not to mention how this is the first CoD game in the series that actually has crossplay enabled. Buuuuut if a PS4 dude wants to play Survival with his Xbox friends he can't.
This is just one of many examples. Sony is a greedy business suit first and a software developer second. Meanwhile Microsoft gave Switch Cuphead, Ori, Lucky's Tale, and Banjo in Smash. They've actually been consumer friendly for all gamers, not just their own. But not Sony. Nope.
This EXCEEDED THEIR EXPECTATIONS? Atlus single handedly made the 3DS a better console. Of course they have many fans at Nintendo community who would love to play all the other games
@BarefootBowser Personally I couldn't care less for the other ps4 titles, and the ones that exists on the system and that I actually care about is already ported to the Switch From what I have seen so far, there's a good portion of those who want the game who has the same perspective.
Besides, my wife would kill me if I bought another system and a game / games for it... we have a family to support
Might be in the minority but don't care what consoles they get ported to as long as they are on latest gen and I can play them without messing around with old consoles
@BarefootBowser
Well, I know what's on ps4, and I haven't had a moment where I got excited for a game (beside Persona 5, but I've already played that one on psnow)... mind you, I'm not saying that ps4 games are bad, I just have certain criteria for games which the platform fail to offer me. That's just how life is.
Because life is more than food and light. It's necessities in a modern society, but there are other aspects of life that needs to be taken care of as well. In our case, we need to use quite an amount to see my side of the family now and then who live in another country and also her side of the family who live in a city quite far away, which also costs in gas. That's just one thing we spend some money on, but I would rather raise my social capital rather than playing a game. Not everyone can afford to burn money, but it also depends on how you prioritize your life. My top priority is not games, that's for sure
@Bobb 3DS has the best collection of Atlus exclusives ever. It wouldn't be my favorite handheld if it didn't have games like Etrian Odyssey IV, Persona Q, SMT IV, Devil Survivor Overclocked, etc. on it. For me, their support was at least as important as Nintendo's own first-party support.
Also worth mentioning that a lot of people only really care about PS Vita because of Persona 4 Golden.
Atlus is one of the best third party developers out there.
@nessisonett Nintendo helped to fund Bayo 2 + 3 after other big companies wouldn't, which is why people think the series shouldn't go to other consoles. Did Sony fund development of Persona 5?
@lordzand The survey question was: "If previous Atlus games (games which can be played on other hardware, without adding additional elements) were ported to the Nintendo Switch, would you want to play them? Select all of the titles below that you would like to play on the Nintendo Switch.
Port of “Revelations: Persona”
Port of “Persona 2: Innocent Sin / Eternal Punishment”
Port of “Persona 3,” “Persona 3 FES,” and “Persona 3 Portable”
Port of “Persona 4” and “Persona 4 Golden”
Port of “Persona 5” and “Persona 5 Royal”
Port of “Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne”
Port of “Shin Megami Tensei IV”
Port of “Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse”
Port of “Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner” series
Port of “Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers”
Port of “Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha” series
Port of “Etrian Odyssey” series
Port of “13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim”
Port of “Persona Q”
Port of “Catherine: Full Body”
Port of “Odin Sphere Leifthrasir”
Port of “Dragon’s Crown Pro"
As you can see, all past Persona games were included as options.
I’m kind of over it. I definitely would have been sucked into buying a theoretical Switch port of Persona 5 back when Joker released in Smash, but as my personal level of hype faded and I moved on, I realize at this point I don’t have 100+ hours to spare on a game like Persona 5, and having played about 75% of Persona Q2 on 3DS, I can’t say the Persona characters and universe are all that appealing to me. Atlus’ inability to read demand saved me 60 bucks, I suppose.
@Ralizah "Also worth mentioning that a lot of people only really care about PS Vita because of Persona 4 Golden."
There are people that really care about PS Vita?
Is that a brand of paper towels?
@thesilverbrick
"thesilverbrick: P5 hype is over"
"atlus/PS fanbase: P5 Royal in March hyyyyyyyppeeee!!"
@NEStalgia I understand my personal level of enthusiasm isn’t indicative of the Persona fanbase. I’m just saying that there may be others like me whose interest in Persona was piqued by Joker’s inclusion in Smash who might have impulsively bought P5 on Switch last summer. I’m not typically into massive JRPGs, but occasionally I’ll give them a go, especially if a character from a JRPG is included in Smash and catches my interest. I did that with Hero and Dragon Quest XI and now I’m obsessed.
@QueenKittenWrite Please. Who threatened to commit suicide over Bayonetta 2 being exclusive to Wii U? 🙄 Besides, PlayStation 2 ended up getting some of those GameCube "exclusives" with added features like Dante and Trish in Veautiful Joe. Although I'm not accusing you of being one of them (I don't know you), I will say that I have no sympathy whatsoever for Sony fanatics.
@thesilverbrick Maybe that's a subset of Nintendo-only non-RPG-fans that would only impulse buy things if they're highlighted in Smash, but my point was that the broad "hype machine" for P5 is really in its prime still outside that niche, with the "complete" more or less version arriving in the next month or two fir the first time, and with Scramble, technically a sequel still arriving (on Switch.)
I played Persona 5 on the PS4 and the Japanese demo for Scramble for the Switch. P5 Royal would be just fine on the Switch based on how jaw dropping Scramble looks. I didn't really see a quality drop. If any, it'd probably be during combat, but didn't really notice it.
@NEStalgia True, but that “hype machine” is among the existing fans of Persona. I’m saying that some people (like me) who might have been casually drawn to investigate Persona by Joker in Smash have lost interest over time and have moved on to other things.
@QueenKittenWrite Yep, Nintendo fans are the biggest bunch of entitled whiners on the Internet. People asked for Bayonetta 2 on other systems and they got indignant and righteous, but they have no shame about begging for Persona 5 even though there has never been a Persona game on a Nintendo system. They could just buy a real console and play the game, but nope, everything is better on Switch. Even when it is plagued with slowdown and downgraded textures.
@DrDaisy Playstation 2 and Game Cube were very close in power. Switch and PS4 are not.
@Yogsoggoth You make some good points but you lose all credibility when you say things like “buy a real console,” blowing your cover as a troll.
Everyone's asking for Persona 5 while I'm waiting for Devil Survivor HD or P2 Eternal Punishment's PSP Remake getting a localization
Port all Persona games to Switch, and give me PHYSICAL copies to buy of each one. TAKE MY MONEY!
@Yogsoggoth That isn't the point. Games like Resident Evil 4 and Viewtiful Joe were supposed to be exclusive to GameCube, but not only did they end up on PS2, the PS2 ports got features not in the GameCube versions. I've also seen people complain about Tatsunoko vs Capcom being only on Wii while trying to shut Nintendo fans down for asking for games like Marvel vs Capcom 3 and pretty much any other fighting game by reminding them that they had TvC. It's like they're insisting that owners of Nintendo systems simply don't deserve any third-party exclusives or ports of high-profile games.
@mesome713 honestly fans like you are toxic. This is why other commu cities look down on us. This isnt the 90s anymore. It's not cool to be a fanboy. You gain nothing for being a fanboy. All consoles have their pros and cons. Console wars are dead.
@glaemay lol sources please lol
@ObsidianEleven
Yes! A full remaster of all P3 games into one ultimate experience would be absolutely amazing!
@JR150 I literally want every game on every system. Let the platform itself draw users. Want to play it anywhere? Nintendo. Want it unreasonable powerful? PC. Want it in a Netflix sub style? Xbox. Want whatever people go to Playstation for? Playstation (not being rude, I know Playstation is good for exclusives, but the whole point of this is to get rant is to get rid of exclusives)
I have never played an Etrian Odyssey or Persona title, so would love to try both. I must say though, I tried a demo of Etrian Odyssey on 3DS and really enjoyed it. I also own Persona 4 Golden on the Vita but haven't played it. For shame!
@Yogsoggoth Damn I didn't realise I didn't have a "real" console. Thanks. It's going on ebay tonight...
Atlus can sometimes take a very long time to produce a game so I don't expect SMTV anytime soon. To my knowledge Atlus has never publicly stated it is Exclusive to the Switch. Only its the target platform. The fact its being made with Unreal Engine and could be easily ported may mean its a timed exclusive and they plan to port it or consider it down the line.
Persona 3,4 were developed for the PS2, when Sony dominated the console industry. The fact that the hardware was so archaic meant any ports would be expensive. P5 started preliminary development after Persona4 (2008) and full development 2011. A very long time from start to release (2016). Part of that early time was probably porting the PS2 code to X86. So again porting it to the Switch won't be a simple task. The Switch has a different architecture with limited resources. Which is why I feel they went with Unreal Engine for SMTV. Which provides support across platforms without having to build & tweak a inhouse engine.
So IMO I think Persona being Sony exclusive has more to do with budget and the industry at the time then anything. Atlus would never have ported to the Wii or WiiU and Japan frankly doesn't care about Microsoft. Not to mention the period where Atlus's parent company went bankrupt and Sega bought them.
I personally want SMT:Nocturne & Persona4 the most.
Would buy it again. Just sayin'
I see ports, I see ports... on my Nintendo Swwwitch, Nintendo Switch. PORTS!!
I would like more Atlas games on Switch please!
An Etrian Odyssey collection would be amazing!
@QueenKittenWrite shut up
Persona 5 would be huge on the Switch.
Everyone: Where is Persona 5 for Switch? We want Persona 5 on Switch!
Atlus: So...do you guys really want Persona 5 on Switch? Yea sorry, no.
Being portable really helped Persona 4, I think Persona 5 on the Switch would be the natural step forward for the game.
I wouldn't be surprised in SMT 5 and EO6 end up to become multiplats anyways.
@Seacliff I agree. I'd also just take a port of P3F and P4G on switch if we're not getting 5, and I really only want 5 on switch if it's Royal otherwise I have zero reason to double dip.
@QueenKittenWrite "arrogant"? How about you fill us in on the Sony pony fanyboys reaction when astral chain was announced as a switch exclusive please I'll wait 😁
@nessisonett you also must live in a bubble I'd also like you to fill us in on how the sony kids reacted when astral chain was announced as a exclusive for switch last I heard something along the lines of harrassment and review bombing on multiple sites 😁
@Yogsoggoth come again? https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2019/09/metacritic_takes_action_against_disgruntled_gamers_who_review-bombed_astral_chain
Persona 5 so much overrated game. A so not a loss here it it won't be released on Switch... I saw it and I can't be bothered. Was watching what was so great about it... to me it looks like a Sims game but with other characters with different story... look at all that interaction with NPCS like best buddies... I want to play a game and if i want social activity i will go out with friends. LMAO
@Zyph you have no evidence of this silent exclusive claim. Pure speculation which is total BS. There is no exclusive deal!
Atlus just chose PlayStation for Persona. There is nothing wrong with this by the way. Publishers can favour a console without signing exclusive deals.
@kobashi100 Uhhh I don't know where this came from but that's what I'm saying. My comment was a general statement, not as fact.
Better read again (and my other comments), brother. Calm down. You're reading comments too literally.
And I have not, as far as I know, said that this exclusivity is "wrong".
@Zyph sorry bro not saying you think it wrong. Just making it clear that's my position before I get accused of being some Fanboy.
@kobashi100 It's cool, man.
Anyone remember when Nintendo wouldn't allow SMT to be published in the west but Sony was cool with Persona:Revelations coming to the west?
@mesome713 Persona 5 sold 3 million, the best selling in the franchise. Which is really good for a niche game. Persona needs no saving.
@JR150 It's smart business strategy. Spoiler: all companies care about money first. I also don't see Nintendo putting games on other platforms.
@Trajan
Sure it sold 3 million, but it took it three years to get there as the game originally released in 2016 but that sales number is as of 2019. Meanwhile Fire Emblem Three Houses is at 2.58 million (and probably on its way to three million) in just six months and it's a much less-played style of RPG in the tactical/strategy genre. Say what you want but Persona is by no means a blockbuster. (Source: https://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/355039/Persona_5_has_topped_32_million_sales_worldwide.php)
With that being said that doesn't add up because Persona is owned by Sega/Atlus. It's not the same as Nintendo own Astral Chain or Bayonetta because there's no confirmed exclusivity between Sony and Atlus. If there was then this poll wouldn't even exist because why would they publicly announce that they're willing to breach a contract? So no, it's not smart. All it's forcing people to do is buy used PS3/4s and used copies of the game that end up not supporting the developers when many of us want to give them our money here and having these on Switch would be way more convenient since some of us have busy lives. If Atlus really cared about money (which their parent company Sega has been LOSING) then they'd expand the Megami Tensei series to all platforms with SMT on PS and Nintendo and Persona on PS and Nintendo. At the moment it's absolutely nonsensical and serves to benefit no one.
I really hope they won't (and by that I mean they will) release a sort of Etrian Oddysey Collection which has all the previous entry bundled into one huge story, or something like that...
No, that wouldn't be good for me.
I never got super far in EO, and only played the first, but the game gave me a really strange personal and emotional investment in the characters and its world.
The hub felt strangely alive, for a menu of what? 5 options?
Maybe I just have a very strong imagination, I don't know. But it definitely clicked with me.
@JR150 First party Switch games sell well regardless. FE3H had quite a bit of hype too. But that has nothing to do with Persona.
Atlus receives money when you buy Persona 5 or Persona 5 Royal on PS4, so I'm not getting your argument.
The Nintendo comment was about how you said "This is just one of many examples. Sony is a greedy business suit first and a software developer second. Meanwhile Microsoft gave Switch Cuphead, Ori, Lucky's Tale, and Banjo in Smash. They've actually been consumer friendly for all gamers, not just their own. But not Sony. Nope."
Nintendo should prove they're better than Sony and put some of their games on Xbox.
@nessisonett Of course they are allowed... It's not the community that controls what is and what isn't exclusive. My circle of friends is all Nintendo fans, and there's not one that wants exclusivity for games from third party. What stands out is this negativity, but grand majority of Nintendo community has no problem sharing third party games with other platforms. It's people like you and the other you replying to that are giving bad names to the communities. Plus, in the end of the day, Nintendo saved Bayonetta franchise. Sony didn't want too finance it, so we are only getting bayonettas thanks to Nintendo. It's a shame it's not on other platforms, but they have their moral rights in the end.
persona 5 the royal please.
@Trajan "First party Switch games sell well regardless. FE3H had quite a bit of hype too. But that has nothing to do with Persona."
That's the opposite. Nintendo first party sales numbers are very varying. Lot of Nintendo games flop and there were many example over the last years. Sony first party games sell well regardless so Persona 5 sales numbers aren't representative of anything. As long as Sony put big money in marketing it sells. But we don't know if Atlus is rightfully retributed for those sales since Sony hate japanese videogames and want to destroy the japanese industry.
Surprised nobody has pointed out this.
if Sony really do have an exclusivity deal for Persona why are Atlus asking if we want them ported to Switch?
Surely this confirms that as false right?
@Trajan Sega said Persona 5 Royal sold horriable. And 3 million on PS3 and PS4 with both having big install bases, it's niche.
@QueenKittenWrite wtf are you talking about?
@glaemay what are you talking about with Sony hating Japan? Sony has had no problem promoting Persona 5 Royal and Death Stranding recently. And one of the biggest games of the year is about Japan (Ghosts of Tsushima).
@mesome713 and it hasn't come out in the west yet either. Also Japan doesn't really like rereleases or ports. Hmm....
@Trajan which is why they're trying to release on Switch now, Sega said the game sold poorly and didn't meet expectations. Now they're begging Nintendo fans to buy it. Japan is big money. The island is so small, shipping cost are cheap. Sega wants Nintendo to help Persona sell better.
The game just isn't popular, and Sony is too greedy to fund the games development. So now Persona needs Nintendo to help. Nintendo is the gods of Japan. All they do is make big profits. Sega knows this, that's why they release so much on Nintendo.
@mesome713 you realize they aren't releasing it on Switch. This survey was for Japan only. They closed it early because westerners were responding to it. Japan is tired of ports, so why would they want a persona 5 port?
@Trajan Sega said Persona Royal sold like garbage in Japan. Japan is big money, they need Japan and now they are begging Nintendo fans to buy Persona. Sony sells horrible in Japan, Japanese don't like Sony, which you can't blame them, Sony is a very greedy company.
Now that Sega knows so many Nintendo fans want Persona, they can start to save Persona.
@mesome713 The PS4 has actually sold very well in Japan. Did the Wii U sell well in Japan? Did the GameCube? Switch is selling well because it is portable, and console sales in general have been in decline in Japan since the PS2.
Persona 5 sold more in the west than Japan. The U.S. is the largest market for video games.
Only person I know who doesn't have P5R preordered who plays games is my coach who only plays COD.
@Trajan None of that matters to Sega. In there eyes the game sold poorly and now they're begging Nintendo fans to buy the game. Companies want money, not poor sales like Persona has delivered them. This is Sega's desision, not fanboys who get but hurt a game is gonna be made more profitable,
@mesome713 Sega isn't begging anyone. Persona 5 isn't even coming to Switch. Sega's profits are up.
It also is not Sega's decision, since they are hands-off with Atlus.
One of those poor selling games was Mario and Sonic at the Olympics. Is that coming to PS4?
@Trajan No, cause Nintendo funds the game. Sony doesn't fund Persona. And Sega stated the sales for the new Persona were horrible, then days later the poll begging Nintendo fans if they would buy Persona releases. Hmm, sounds to me Sega is cracking that whip.
Atlas was also suprised by how many Nintendo fans want Persona. So it's an easy decision for them, Nintendo fans can save Persona. Plus Persona is in Smash now, so he'll be coming home where he belongs.
@mesome713 lol.
1. They're not begging Nintendo fans for sales. P4G only sold around a million. P5R will exceed that. P5R has already outsold P4G in Japan.
2. Persona doesnt need saved. It is selling more than it ever has.
3. Nintendo is not home for Persona. The PS1 is "home" for Persona. Joker is in smash because Sakurai likes him and Nintendo used it as marketing Smash to PS4 players.
You sound like a kid who is a fanboy. As a veteran of the 90s console war, you'll eventually grow up and realise none of this matters. Just enjoy the games you like.
@Trajan Just telling what Sega has stated, that the new Persona didn't meet sales expectations and that Atlus made a poll asking Nintendo fans if they would buy Persona.
It sucks, but we have to deal with facts, not fanboy dreams. Companies want more money, not poor sales like Sega stated came from the new Persona.
@mesome713 They also asked if we wanted to play 3ds and SMT 5 on PS4 and PS5.
@Trajan Well good luck with that, I'm guessing it didn't meet demand expectations like this poll did. Atlus said this is biggest demand they have ever received. This is good for Persona, the series deceives so much more.
@mesome713 I take it you've never even played these games and only care because Joker in smash?
Yes they received a lot of responses from westerners. Hence why they closed it early.
@Trajan I don't like Persona, I think it's jpop junk.
@mesome713 Well then.
If I'm being honest, I'd probably buy most of what was on that list. But since we were limited to five games, the Etrian Odyssey and Persona games are an easy choice. Though, I'd love Vanillaware's games and playing Catherine on the go would be a blast.
Atlus, if you were not aware, is infamous for releasing almost all of their games on a single platform, and never porting them.
How the heck does Atlus actually think nobody wants games on any platform outside of the Sony ones or whatever one platform they put a game on?
Of course people want games to be multiplatform, because not everybody owns that 1 platform you put the game on.
And before someone restates the tired old excuse that Atlus can't afford to make their games multiplatform, the entire point of making a game multiplatform is to make more money off of already completed work with minimal effort.
I'm not even just talking about the Switch, which would take more effort to port modern AAAs to because of the hardware limitations, they don't port their games to the PC or Xbone where the transition would be much easier either.
@Trajan Ghost of Tsushima is an american game. Sony want to steal the japanese videogames market with their western blockbusters. Also Sony fans have no credibility. When Sony shut down fan games they don't complain unlike Nintendo fans who are much more responsible. Sony fans are the blindest fans of the industry.
@glaemay What are you even talking about? Nintendo shuts down fan games all the time.
Sony just released a game where you make games.
Well, they ported Catherine, I hope they port P5 too.
