Re: Review: UFO 50 (Switch) - A Wondrous Smorgasbord Of Retro Delights

Just watched the video review, and UFO 50 certainly deserves the praise. I've only played the first two games chronologically so far, Barbuta and Bug Hunter, and have been enjoying them both. Barbuta is a game I got really into as a lite, retro Metroidvania. I'm heading towards 9 hours on that game. Bug Hunter I just started playing yesterday and it exploded to nearly 3 hours. Bug Hunter's genre is new to me, and it may end up being my gateway to other strategy series like Fire Emblem.

With how UFO 50 is trending with just its first two games, I see the potential of the entire game being a 200+ hour experience with all 50. To me so far, it's one of the clearest 10/10 games of the Switch/Switch 2's 2025.

Double Dash is the one lurking in the shadows for me as a contender, but I don't usually rank it Top 3. DS and 8DLX may still be my favorites as I'm torn on World. The CPU difficulty hurts the game the most, and it definitely has a higher skill ceiling. For now, I'll say it's my 3rd favorite, but it's a tweak away from being at the top (or simply more play time).

With how the CPU racers are in World, that would be a miserable experience. I've had too many Knockout Tours where I'm hit by one or two Blue Shells in a segment, while a CPU in 1st can gain a big lead and not get a single one across multiple segments. The game is stingy giving me red shells in that situation too when I'm in 2nd. I was close last night to turning off the game and going back for a session of Mario Kart DS or Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Both more fair experiences.

I thought it looked interesting at first, but then I saw the Treehouse Live segment and found myself skipping through the segment hoping to see some sign of more content. I also think Drag x Drive lacks significantly in personality and world-building, which the Switch game it keeps getting compared to, ARMS, greatly excelled at. If it had been more like ARMS in its character and environmental design, I would've been going out for Drag x Drive at its launch. I'm willing to see what more they've got to show for the game, but my concern isn't the controls at all. I'm looking for content and personality.

@Simone93 I wouldn't rule it out, but I don't think third party soundtracks are coming anytime soon, especially with how slowly it's being updated. Personally, I would prefer that all OSTs of Nintendo's legacy series and million sellers are on the app first before third party OSTs are seriously considered.

Re: Nintendo Dev On Using Anatomy Studies To Create Metroid Dread's Amiibo

I-U

Both Metroid: Samus Returns and Metroid Dread have amazing Amiibo packs. I haven't taken the Dread Suit and E.M.M.I Amiibo out of their package, but even there Samus is positioned facing off against the E.M.M.I. I didn't realize the E.M.M.I's pose was as confrontational until I saw fans positioning the amiibo. It's great that Metroid's Amiibo have come out with such quality, because there aren't many options unless a fan is willing to go to Good Smile or First4Figures with a load of money.

Re: Talking Point: Our 2024 Nintendo Gaming Predictions

I-U

I only really care about three things that are currently uncertain. I want to be able to play Metroid Prime 2 and Metroid Prime 3 on the Switch, and I want Metroid Prime 4 info. It will have 5 years by the time of the year's first general Nintendo Direct. It's time to show something.

Re: Poll: What's The Best RPG Starring Mario?

I-U

I think the first three Mario & Luigi games: Superstar Saga, Partners in Time and Bowser's Inside Story, are better than anything I've played in the Paper Mario series. I've played all entries and so far only beat TTYD, and that was when I was a kid with a guide. The connection with those games hasn't really been there for me. Origami King to me isn't a RPG, but I do think it might be the best Paper Mario experience I've had and I should return to beat it at some point.

My favorite of them all is Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. While I don't usually mention it with the likes of my favorite 3D and 2D Mario, Superstar Saga is at that table as a favorite of the entire Mario franchise. It's just memorable moment after memorable moment from Cackletta's deception as Lady Lima to seeing Yoshis cheering at the masterpiece they just watched.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Super Mario Bros. Wonder?

I-U

I am at a point where I can progress into World 3. Wonder is no less than a 9 for me, but I do have concerns/issues. Knowing how many have already 100% the game, including my little brother, I'm concerned about long term incentives. I imagine I'll get answers to that once I beat the game. Then there are the boss battles so far...They haven't mechanically been a problem, but I'm baffled by the lack of originality in that aspect considering the game's overall creative direction. It's too early for me to say if Wonder is better than NSMB, SML2 or NSMB2, which are my current Top 3 for 2D Mario.

Re: Nintendo Direct September 2023: Time, Where To Watch, Our Predictions

I-U

@YANDMAN I didn't say Prime 4 has 5 years of development. I said by the time of the next general Direct it would, which I'm thinking will be in February 2024. That is 5 years out from the restart in January 2019. Prime 4's current development is sitting at 4 years and almost 8 months.

I do agree that Nintendo is more likely to reveal the game when they reveal the Switch's successor if there are no plans for the game to be like BOTW was for the Wii U/Switch.

Re: Nintendo Direct September 2023: Time, Where To Watch, Our Predictions

I-U

Metroid Prime 4 footage...I don't know if it'll start with tomorrow's Direct, but I can see the lack of Prime 4 ruining future Directs for me. It's ridiculous to think that if it doesn't show up tomorrow to end the Direct, that Prime 4 will have 5 years of development by the time of the next general Nintendo Direct. Tomorrow will determine whether it's coming to the Switch or if it's exclusive to the Switch's successor.

Re: Talking Point: After Three Months, What's Your Zelda: TOTK Completion Percentage?

I-U

When I first played ToTK, my launch Switch cooling fan was giving out, so I was limited on how much I could play. I made it to the end of the game's tutorial sky island and then got a new Switch OLED shortly after...ironically enough the ToTK edition. I have yet to go back to ToTK since getting that new Switch and replacing the cooling fan in my launch system. I don't know when I'll be returning to the game.

Re: Random: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's Sunset Wilds Is Missing One Key Thing

I-U

There should have been a third lap at night on Sunset Wilds. It at least should be comparable to Tour's iteration. I'm not asking for the presentation to be as good as the original as Nintendo is clearly pulling from Tour iterations.

If Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's programming, engine, whatever excuse there is couldn't correctly implement Sunset Wilds, Nintendo should have selected another track. There's no excuse for how it is, Sunset Wilds was Nintendo's pick and they should know what that track's main gimmick is and how to implement it.

The compromise if it really is impossible to make a transition is to make a night iteration of Sunset Wilds and the track cycles like Animal Crossing. Hopefully, there will be a future update to Sunset Wilds. If two cars can get fixed up in Coconut Mall, Sunset Wilds' presentation can get a fix too.

Re: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Has Been Updated To Version 2.4.0, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

I-U

If Sunset Wilds had the night transition for lap 3, I would have no issue with Wave 5. It's a fantastic selection. Squeaky Clean Sprint may be my favorite of the new tracks. I'm really impressed with it, and I kind of want to see BCP end on a brand new Rainbow Road that oozes that kind of creativity. I want night time updated to Sunset Wilds before then though.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (July 1st)

I-U

I'm currently in runs for Metroid Prime 2, Metroid Prime Remastered, Metroid Prime Hunters and Metroid II. I'm on the verge of 100% in Echoes for the first time, and I'm playing on GameCube to unlock that version's Hard Mode which I intend on playing. With Prime Remastered, I'm going for all the extras, so I'm in Hard Mode right now just after Ice Beam and trying to 100% scans in this run too.

Both Metroid Prime Hunters and Metroid II are more casual runs. With Hunters, I'm doing a 5 rep run, where I do 5 reps of whatever whether it be set-ups, push-ups, weight curls, jumping jacks, etc. per item I acquire. Metroid II is just a replay run for now, but I may make sure to get all items before beating the game. I'm not sure yet.

Re: Feature: Our Predictions For Tomorrow’s Nintendo Direct

I-U

I completely forgot about the possibility of Wave 5 being revealed during this Direct for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. I think it's time for Metroid Prime 4 to have a reveal trailer, but if that doesn't happen another Metroid Prime game should be announced to be coming to the Switch. The way Prime Remastered was announced and released definitely felt like it was to generate hype leading into another announcement later this year. Now is the time.

Edit: Since Tears of the Kingdom and Everybody 1-2-Switch! exist, I would love to see ARMS get a sequel that's a more in-depth and fleshed out experience.

Re: Poll: Are You Still Playing Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom?

I-U

I haven't played Tears of the Kingdom since I made it to the end of the large tutorial island. My launch Switch was overheating on me while playing the game, and I've since gotten a new Switch (the TOTK OLED Switch) and replaced the cooling fan on my launch Switch. I'm all set to continue, but I just haven't gone back to it yet and have been playing other games instead.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel - The Legend Of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass

I-U

The title of the game is The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. Only one box art fits that title, and it's the North American box art. The Europe/Japan cover doesn't make any sense until the game is played. Just looking at that cover, I have no idea what that has to do with the title. I love that the states got art that leaned into the narrative and title instead.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom?

I-U

No lower than a 9 and I'm just judging from the large tutorial area with the first four shrines. TOTK will likely be a 10 as I play it more. I'm at maybe 4 hours playtime now which isn't anything. My launch day Switch unfortunately overheated in my first couple of sessions and I've limited my play time since. I will hopefully be getting a Switch OLED to be my main Switch before June.

Re: Poll: One Year On, What Other Events Should Be Added To Nintendo Switch Sports?

I-U

They should add progression to Nintendo Switch Sports that can be earned offline and online, and allow players to reach Pro and Superstar Classes for each event. While the game is fun to play, without that sense of progress it's hard to say NSS is any better than the original Wii Sports. There's obviously a lot more to be added to be up there with Wii Sports Resort. I think Go Vacation too blows Nintendo Switch Sports out of the water, and is available on the Switch.

Nintendo Switch Sports shouldn't have released without Boxing AND Baseball events. I prefer Boxing to finally be added first, and then Baseball.

Re: Talking Point: What's The Best Year In Gaming?

I-U

It would be 2006 for me. The Nintendo DS had Metroid Prime Hunters, New Super Mario Bros., Tetris DS, Kirby: Squeak Squad, Star Fox Command, Final Fantasy III and Magical Starsign. I haven't even gotten around to Elite Beat Agents yet, but I've heard great things about that game too. Then to cap the year off, the Wii launches which made for an exciting Christmas and winter break. Wii Sports got played a lot then.

Re: Poll: What’s Your Favourite New Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC Track In Wave 4?

I-U

The City tour tracks are all very solid, and I feel each GBA track addition in the BCP has been fantastic...Riverside Park may be the best of the bunch.

They didn't do Waluigi Stadium justice. The effects of the dirt track are not there, and the Piranha Plant mechanisms are not as effective in throwing a curve ball during the race. Pretty sure the original had 3 that could impede a racer's path, and now there's one. The atmosphere leaves a lot to be desired, but overall I'm still a fan of the track.

I'm not too crazy about the Yoshi's Island track. Aside from the environment and Shy Guys near the beginning, I don't really feel any strong association with what I've played of Yoshi's Island and this track. I might need to watch a breakdown to understand track details more in connection with the game.

DK Summit is fine, and DS Mario Circuit is too. DS Mario Circuit has been cut down and I've felt that with each race there. It's not bad, but I think I prefer the original track design.

Re: Best Metroid Games Of All Time

I-U

Metroid Prime Hunters and Metroid Prime: Federation Force are extremely underrated games in this series. Metroid: Other M shouldn't be where it is either. I enjoy Prime Remaster, but, with those three aforementioned games at the bottom, it's overrated.

While I don't like Dread as much as I use to, Dread is definitely better than the original Prime release on Gamecube. The control of Samus alone makes it the better experience.

The only Prime release listed that's not overrated is the release that shouldn't be in the rankings, as it puts Prime with Prime 2 and 3 as the Metroid Prime Trilogy. Somehow Prime Remastered is better than an updated Prime, updated Prime 2 and Prime 3 on a single disk? The Metroid fandom lets recency get into their heads too much.

Re: Feature: Our Predictions For The February 2023 Nintendo Direct

I-U

If I have hands to type with, then I must have ARMS 2. I also consider Metroid Prime 4 ready at any point this year to have its first trailer. I don't think that'll be tomorrow, but I want it to be. I wouldn't mind a Prime HD if it had the word Trilogy in between Prime and HD. I don't think any previous Prime game coming to the Switch has ever been real though. I want to see LoZ: TotK only briefly, not as the last presentation, and have a blowout saved for its own Direct in April.

Re: Video: One Month In, What Are Your Predictions For The Switch's 2023?

I-U

1. There is a Direct for February and September. Nintendo is a no show again in the summer.
2. Pikmin 4 releases in August.
3. Metroid Prime 4 has its first gameplay trailer in the first general Nintendo Direct following the release of Tears of the Kingdom.
4. ARMS 2 is announced for June in the February Direct.
5. Nintendo Switch Sports gets Basketball added as a sport for March, announced in February Direct.
6. Re-Boot Camp launches in April, and sales much less than it could have sold in April of last year.
7. Super Mario Odyssey is getting DLC kingdoms that are inspired from locations in the Super Mario movie, and guess what? The first DLC kingdom is released in April. You'll have BCP's Wave 4 graphics to analyse and be critical of in April as well.
8. The Super Mario movie does over 500 million at the box office by the end of its second weekend. Worldwide is over 800 million.
9. There is NO Metroid Prime remaster. No previous Metroid Prime game is coming to Switch.
10. The next generation for Nintendo is revealed before the end of this calendar year.
11. A new 2D Mario game, not Super Mario Maker 3, is coming to the Switch this holiday.

Well, there are some. I just hope there's more energy to 2023 than 2022. 2022 had a stellar 1st party software line-up, but had an emptiness due to the lack of information coming from Nintendo in the summer. No June Direct hurt last year. 2023 needs to be better at keeping a buzz if Nintendo come June is a no show again.

Re: Nintendo, Sony And Xbox Reportedly Skipping E3 2023

I-U

I'm not that interested in E3 without Nintendo. Nintendo deciding to not show up does not change my expectations for them. I expect a February, June and September general Direct from Nintendo. Nintendo can either meet that expectation or not. If they do what they did last year, hopefully this year's software line-up gets set soon and is at least as good as last year's. That information drought honestly made last year feel empty for a third of the year, and made for one of the more disappointing years in the Switch era in spite of a software line-up that could hold up to 2017's.

Re: Advance Wars' Delayed Switch Release Might Finally Be Reporting For Duty

I-U

I was interested in this game back in December 2021 and still had interest after the delay to April 2022...but now, after the appeasement to a side of Twitter, I'm not interested unless Nintendo has brought in more content to the game. I also now have the original games on my Wii U which I shortly bought after this game's delay last year. If Re-Boot Camp has just been kept on a shelve during this time, my money can be kept in my wallet.

Re: Feature: 6 Things We'd Love To See In Metroid Prime 4

I-U

@FinalSmashGamer You have to assume that when Nintendolife puts out a Metroid article or story, that they don't fully know what they're talking about. They like to bait out fans with Other M too, so expect to see a "6 Things We'd Hate To See In Metroid Prime 4" or something along those lines that drags Other M out and into the comments.

Re: Feature: 6 Things We'd Love To See In Metroid Prime 4

I-U

The Metroid fandom loves to crap on Federation Force which left much better potential for Sylux leading into Prime 4 than the cliffhanger at the end of Prime 3. Why talk about Sylux if you're not going to cover the character's development leading into Prime 4?

Personally, if Sylux isn't in the game or is just a quick mention, I'm saving my money. I've played as Sylux for hundreds of hours in Metroid Prime Hunters and have been twice teased of a return in Corruption and Federation Force. In most cases, improvements in gameplay areas would be what I would most like to see (and Retro's Prime games certainly need gameplay improvement), but that won't even matter for Prime 4 for me if Sylux isn't given the major role he's been set up to have.

It's wild to see new abilities at a 24%, the second most of the poll, when games like Hunters and Federation Force have been dragged through the mud by the fandom. No credit is given to how much new abilities they brought to the table. At the same time, the fandom praises a counter mechanic that trivializes enemy encounters. I wouldn't be surprised if that trend continues into Prime 4. They'll give fans an automatic win feature.

Hopefully, Metroid Prime 4 gets shown off at E3 this year. I'm ready to move on from all the speculation and want to sit down with the game assuming Retro Studios create an experience I'm willing to pay for.
