Re: Poll: What's The Best 2D Sonic Game?

I-U

I had to rate Sonic Rush a 10 instead of a 9 due to how slept on it appears to be in this comment section. When I think of what a Sonic game should be like, Sonic Rush always comes to mind. One of the best soundtracks of any game I've played as well.

Re: Talking Point: Why Metroid Dread Will Be Worth $60

I-U

I'm willing to pay more than $60, but I cannot secure a preorder for the Special Edition partly due to scalpers. I'm also willing to pay even more to enhance the game a little with its Amiibo, also a product I cannot get.

As a game, I enjoyed Samus Returns enough compared to other IPs that I would want to play more games of that style, especially if they're improved. Metroid Dread seems to fit that bill based on the current footage, and I'm very invested into the narrative of this series and want to see how Metroid Dread shapes it and what lore comes from this chronologically last entry.

Re: Metroid Games You Need To Play Before Metroid Dread

I-U

I've beaten every Metroid game and have beaten AM2R. Metroid Prime Hunters is my favorite game in the series, followed by a toss up between Super Metroid and Metroid Prime: Federation Force. Hunters is slept on, and Federation Force is very underrated as a single player experience. The essential game(s) to play before Metroid Dread would either be Metroid Fusion, its direct prequel, or Metroid: Samus Returns, to be familiar with Dread's similar style and gameplay.

Re: Yes, The Samus Returns Team Helped Nintendo Develop Metroid Dread

I-U

I'm currently playing through Samus Returns for the third time, as well as the better Federation Force, and I'm enjoying myself more than I thought I would. My second run through, I thought it was one of the worst Metroid games. The melee counter drained the experience of varied enemy interactions. Wait for the enemy's attack gleam, melee counter, shoot...That may be more than 90% of the enemy interactions within the game. That is an aspect that still bugs me in my current run. Metroid Dread I think is in a better place due in part to the E.M.M.I. areas, when the game seems like it'll be less wait-counter-shoot-repeat through a room. So far I have really liked what they have done with Metroid Dread from the trailers and Treehouse coverage, and think a better game than MSR is on the way come early October.

Re: Metroid 5 Is Coming To Switch As Metroid Dread, And It's 2D

I-U

Best reveal of their Direct. With E.M.M.I. sections, I think this game will be more varied than Samus Returns which had too much focus on the Melee Counter. Looking forward to the environment backgrounds for Dread as well, the backgrounds might have been the best aspect of Samus Returns.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of Nintendo Direct At E3 2021?

I-U

Gave the Direct an A, this is 2017 Nintendo ending this year and going into 2022. I believe WarioWare Get It Together and METROID DREAD!!!!! are releasing in September and October respectively, back to back, this year, so 2021 just stomped what they did for the past 3 years. This Fall is going to be awesome.

Re: Metroid Prime 4 Was First Announced Four Years Ago Today

I-U

Due to Covid-19, I do not expect to see Metroid Prime 4 at this year's E3. I don't believe that is because there is nothing of worth to show, I just think this E3 is too far out from when I expect the game to release next year. E3 2022 should be a lock for Metroid Prime 4. I'm expecting the game to be a November 2022 release due to the pandemic.

Re: Random: Craving More Metroid? Check Out This Impressive Live Action Short Film

I-U

I don't ever believe Metroids are just on a planet unless it's SR388, regardless if a Chozo establishment is present on a world. I believe that these Metroids were brought with Ridley for an ambush, which is why they are found swarming in a cold climate, and weaker as a result of being in such conditions as in Samus wouldn't need to freeze them first to eliminate them.

Samus running from a battle with Ridley makes sense since she was there to get her suit repaired. She has passed up battling with Ridley at least twice that I know of in Metroid Prime alone. Ridley's interaction with Samus is a little odd. If he was voiced I would imagine he would be mocking Samus once she's knocked down, but since he's not I'm not sure why Ridley wouldn't go for the kill.

Overall, enjoyable to watch and I'm glad shorts like these are being made in the absence of new games. This doesn't do anything for me with regard to Metroid Prime 4. Now if Sylux was in this short ambushing Samus, that would.

Re: Soapbox: Without A Dedicated Handheld Division, Is Nintendo Less Weird?

I-U

If they're less weird, it's because Nintendo's production doesn't match up to generations with both a dedicated console and handheld division. ARMS and Ring Fit Adventure have that weird, creative, refreshing Nintendo that I love, but those currently are the only examples I can point too. WarioWare, Rhythm Heaven and a Chibi-Robo adventure game could really help diversify the current Nintendo library on the Switch.

Re: Feature: Our Predictions For Nintendo's E3 2021 Direct

I-U

If Smash is given 5 minutes or less, this could be one of their best E3 Directs since 2017's. I'm hopeful of a new WarioWare game. Everything else is up in the air. Metroid Prime 4 could be there, but I don't think it'll be shown this far out. I do think that's a late summer or fall 2022 release though.

Re: Nintendo Wants To Know If You Would Fork Out $50 For A New WarioWare Game

I-U

Absolutely, the WarioWare IP is one of my previous favorites that is still missing from the Switch. I expect the series in general to be significantly upgraded since, not counting Game & Wario, this would be its first appearance on a HD system. As long as it isn't another collection like Gold or a D.I.Y., $50 is fine for the upgrades that are sure to happen.

Re: Talking Point: Do You Replay Games?

I-U

I think I replay games more often than I play games that I've not finished. Metroid Prime Hunters and Animal Crossing Wild World are still major time sinks each year relative to what new games I play, and then there's the shiny hunting in older Pokemon games. I've added hundreds of hours to Pokemon Black over the last two years, and I've gotten my hands on a copy of Pokemon White 2 this year. Since that's a new game for me, I guess my time given to games I'm replaying and games I've yet to finish will become more even since I'm soft resetting for a shiny starter in White 2. From the poll options, I would say I replay games to revisit old favorites, their comfort gaming and they're just that great. Metroid Prime Hunters is my favorite game and Animal Crossing Wild World is in my Top 5, moving to #2 when the summer season is in full swing. I don't see either of these two getting replaced completely in favor of new game experiences.

Re: Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl And Legends: Arceus Get Confirmed Release Dates

I-U

The idea that TPC would show off anything but the best, current footage for Legends: Arceus back when it was announced doesn't make sense. They're trying to sell their games. Legends: Arceus looked much worse than the Wild Area, Isle of Armor and the Crown Tundra at its reveal, so I'm very interested to see a trailer of Legends now since it's dated weeks into 2022 as opposed to a few months.

2022 also must be a packed calendar year for Nintendo if Legends: Arceus stays in January. I do think BOTW 2 would have good placement in early March to release on the anniversary, but it would be amazing if the rest of 2022 matched up to 2017 as well. Nintendo has not had another year like that on the Switch.

Re: Talking Point: When Was The Last Time A Game Cracked Your Top Five?

I-U

Maybe within the last year

1. Metroid Prime Hunters
2. Xenoblade Chronicles (version doesn't really matter)
3. ARMS
4. Ring Fit Adventure
5. Animal Crossing Wild World

I'm not completely sure about Ring Fit, since I'm still playing through that game, but I do know I'm enjoying the game to a degree where I would definitely consider it somewhere among my favorite games. The Switch technically has three of my Top 5 for today, since last year it got the best overall version of Xenoblade. Besides Metroid Prime Hunters and maybe Xenoblade, this list can change depending on how I'm feeling and what I'm playing.

Re: Talking Point: New Super Mario Bros. Is 15 Years Old, And It's Still Fantastic

I-U

New Super Mario Bros. is my favorite 2D Mario game, and is one of my favorites on the Nintendo DS. This release was when Nintendo strived to be new with 2D Mario. Unfortunately, what followed has been 15 years of pretty much the same experience from the Wii sequel. I'm looking forward to the next 2D Mario that they approach like the original NSMB.

Re: Former Metroid Prime Lead Designer Targeted With Abusive Messages

I-U

If he is being harassed online, he shouldn't be. There also shouldn't be any coverage on what's happening with Metroid until Nintendo officially releases new information. I'm not even sure why he was asked about a rumored Switch release that he clearly wouldn't be a part of. I also do not know why every new hire at Retro Studios needs to be addressed. Metroid's coverage has been and is terrible without Nintendo. The former lead designer doesn't deserve any abuse and if it has been occurring, hopefully it comes to a stop soon. The media and coverage too should be silent while Nintendo is silent.

Re: Metroid Prime Trilogy Switch Port? Unlikely, Says Former Retro Studios Dev

I-U

I've considered Prime Trilogy HD to be a non-existent project since the rumors have not panned out for 2+ years. If it were to happen, I would expect the Trilogy this year to be on Switch since I fully expect Prime 4 by the end of 2022. The Trilogy with the Switch's media features would be a great time and would give Nintendo's line-up more buzz.

Re: Feature: Zelda: Spirit Tracks Finally Gave The Princess A Crucial Role To Play

I-U

I want to give Spirit Tracks another play through at some point. While Phantom Hourglass is one of my favorites, Spirit Tracks is one of my least of the Zelda games I've beaten. It felt a little too complicated and restrictive compared to Phantom Hourglass in terms of puzzles and overworld travel respectively. It also brought in mic controls for critical aspects of the game, and those are hit and miss on the Nintendo DS. I felt they were a little bit finicky during my first and only play through of the game. Spirit Tracks has a lot going for it though to make me want to give it another chance someday.

Re: Demo For Stunning Fan-Made 2D Metroid Prime Game Released

I-U

@Bolt_Strike I disagree with everything you've said about Super and Prime. Every Metroid game that has had the Spider Ball has had to sacrifice a bit of pacing or immersion for the upgrade. Hopefully it stays only in Metroid II and its remake for 2D Metroids. It kills the flow of the game. The reward of an Energy Tank or Missile Expansion in my opinion is not worth the tedium of climbing a wall for a couple of minutes. Spider Ball is better used in the Primes, but even there I think all the games would add by subtraction by having the Spider Ball and those tracks removed. The Prime Trilogy would look better environmentally and would have more immersive settings with that removal. The Screw Attack on the other hand is superior in the 2D Metroids and in the way in Prime 2 and 3. It gave Prime 2 and 3 some of their worst room designs either with the empty, long gaps, requiring multiple jumps to be crossed, or empty tower spaces that have green panels slapped on the walls. I don't want to imagine Tallon IV getting cut up and remade with that Screw Attack just for the sake of throwing in a power-up. Adding Seeker Missiles, Grapple Lasso and Grapple Voltage would not be as bad, but all would slow Prime down and make Tallon IV more artificial because they would bring in their own door, shield and/or terminal designs to the environments.

Re: Feature: Zelda: Phantom Hourglass Is Secretly One Of The Best Zeldas

I-U

Phantom Hourglass usually is the Zelda game I would say is my favorite. I believe it was the first Zelda game I played and definitely the first one I beat. I love the controls that the Nintendo DS brought to many series, and both Zelda games did a great job of making use of the system in fun, creative ways. Eox, Gleeok, Cyclok and Crayk are some of my favorite bosses in the Zelda series for how the system was used. Bosses who tower across two screens aren't really anywhere but on the DS, and it made the scenarios much more impressive and memorable for me. I prefer Phantom Hourglass to Spirit Tracks because the travel in PH is open in comparison and I felt the mic controls were a little finicky sometimes in ST. I do want to give ST another playthrough in the future though. It could end up as one of my favorites too.

Re: Demo For Stunning Fan-Made 2D Metroid Prime Game Released

I-U

I think this is the way to remake most of the Metroid Series if they ever are remade. Super Metroid and Metroid Prime for instance especially shouldn't be remade as a 2D and first person game respectively, because they are both already the peak of those styles for Metroid. Make Prime 2D and Super a 3D game if they ever get remade.

Re: Poll: Are You Still Playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons A Year Later?

I-U

I played for about 70-75ish hours which got me a little beyond last year's Bunny Day, and ended up putting the game down after they changed the way certain kinds of bugs and fish were spawning in. I think they made rare bugs and fish rarer which made the game noticeably less rewarding for me in its loops. I ended up actually returning to Animal Crossing Wild World up until probably January or February of this year. I'm thinking about getting back into Animal Crossing again though soon since I do think it is the Spring season again, but I don't know if it'll be a return to New Horizons or familiar Wild World.

Re: Talking Point: Is Zelda An RPG, Or Not?

I-U

Nintendo has Ocarina of Time 3D labeled as an Action/Adventure/Role-Playing, Majora's Mask 3D is labeled Action/Adventure and Breath of the Wild is labeled as an Action/Other/Adventure/Role-Playing...This is a discussion over what seems to be Zelda's tertiary genre label at best, so no, Zelda shouldn't be defined as a RPG and isn't its defining genre.

Re: Best Nintendo DS RPGs

I-U

I had a better time with Magical Starsign, an exclusion, than I did with Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. The sluggish battles pretty much ruined Generation IV for me until I got Heartgold. Black/White, I don't care how linear they are, the pace of battling probably got perfected with Gen. V and made that generation a significant improvement over IV. I would also say Magical Starsign is a better time than Nostalgia and Golden Sun: Dark Dawn currently.

I'm about a third of the way through my first playthrough of Dark Dawn, and there have been times when I'm just not into the game's narrative structure. The main story quest is to go across the continent in search of a special feather, and that has been out shined by pretty much every subplot I've experienced in the game. Its narrative is out of order in my opinion. Currently, I'm in a sweet spot in the game where I'm not being reminded of the reason the adventure began in the first place. Tyrell also is the first time I think a single character has caused me to lose interest/dislike a game. Thankfully I can swap him out for battles at least now that I have 5 party members.

Magical Starsign has a comparable cast in terms of age; however, its adventure begins over a missing person significant to the cast not over a rare feather to fix a machine broken by an annoying character. Its narrative is driven on something that actually feels significant and I think the game gained range by having a serious situation, a missing person, paired with a very young main cast. From there, no matter how silly or dark the game decided to go, Magical Starsign's narrative always felt like it fit the whole.

Re: Dark Horse Appears To Have Cancelled The ARMS Graphic Novel Series

I-U

ARMS sold ~2.38 million. I don't know if there will be a sequel on the Nintendo Switch, but those numbers should be good enough from a debut to see a sequel through for its potential returns. If Metroid is still seeing attention not having touched 2 million going on 19 years, I have plenty of hope for ARMS to get a sequel as well as any other IP with similar returns.

Re: Dark Horse Appears To Have Cancelled The ARMS Graphic Novel Series

I-U

I was looking around to buy this comic a few months ago, but realized it hadn't been released. It's a shame that this comic had been cancelled as the ARMS lore has so much potential for story telling with the right hands to put it all together. ARMS is my favorite game on Nintendo Switch, and hopefully someday it'll have a sequel that really expands on that universe.

Re: Sakurai Explains Why Xenoblade's Rex Isn't A Smash Ultimate DLC Fighter

I-U

How Fighters Pass 2 has handled 1st party reps. has been something I've wanted from Smash probably since the first hype cycle for Smash 4. Min Min and Pyra/Mythra are not the safe picks for Smash for ARMS and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 respectively. Smash's roster needs to continue to branch out more especially when it comes to Nintendo reps. in my opinion.

Re: Video: Check Out This Side-By-Side Comparison Of Pokémon Diamond And Pearl On Switch And DS

I-U

This looks better than the original games, and I think its quality in presentation will be much more consistent than Sword and Shield following the traditional design of the originals. The more I look at the remakes, it fits with those originals better than say the style of Let's Go which going in would have been my ideal choice. I'm much more concerned about the look of Pokemon Legends Arceus, which looks substantially empty compared to Sword and Shield. Sure, it's at least a year out, but I didn't think what was shown looked impressive especially following the remakes.

Re: Poll: Do You Like The Chibi Art Style In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl?

I-U

The remakes look like a modernized take on exactly how the DS games looked. I'm fine with the style they went with, and look forward to playing through the games later this year. Ideally, at least going into the idea of remakes, I had Let's Go in mind since they've looked the best out of the current Pokemon games to me on Switch so far. I certainly wasn't expecting them to look like Sword & Shield, nor did I want them to, considering the visual issues those games have. I'm more skeptical of Pokemon Legends Arceus because of its style than I am of what looks like a very visually faithful remake.

Re: Return To The Fairway, When Mario Golf: Super Rush Arrives On Switch This June

I-U

I think this could be good. I think Speed Golf could be a great mode, and I do like motion controls...The environments I saw though killed nearly any excitement I had. I was wondering if any of them were Super Mario themed, and I noticed the desert course was themed around World 2 of NSMBU. Are they not allowed to do a desert course inspired by Super Mario Odyssey's Sand Kingdom and Tostarena? I skipped Mario Tennis Aces for looking too basic with its courts and that may happen again here with these course designs. If they have more visually creative course designs to show later, this will be a must have.

Re: Round Up: The Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury Reviews Are In

I-U

I'm looking forward to giving 3D World another chance on the Switch, and look forward to collecting in Bowser's Fury. I don't have a problem with IGN giving this release a 7/10, that could be deserved. Anything Mario, not named Mario Kart, having online multiplayer may not be for the better until Nintendo upgrades their service. If this can get anywhere near as bad as SMM2 can get, there should be a point or two deducted for this release.

Re: Nintendo Registers New Trademark For The Legend Of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass

I-U

Phantom Hourglass is my favorite Zelda game, so I would be interested in a return. The game would have to be a remake to be on Switch I would think just because of how specific PH is for the DS hardware. The Switch doesn't have two screens. If they did remake the game to be played on Switch, I would likely buy the game and play through it.

Re: Poll: What's The Best 2D Mario Game?

I-U

The original New Super Mario Bros. is my favorite 2D Mario. Before playing through NSMB the last 2D Mario I beat was Super Mario Land 2, one of my first videogames, so the experience on Nintendo DS was quite a leap for me in all areas.

Re: Poll: What's The Best Kirby Game?

I-U

Kirby Air Ride followed closely by Epic Yarn. City Trial has given me more enjoyment than the entirety of some Kirby experiences I've had. I'm definitely more interested in Kirby Planet Robobot with all the mentions it is getting.

Re: Feature: Remembering Super Mario 3D Land, 3D World’s Oft-Forgotten Predecessor

I-U

I preferred 3D Land to 3D World. The more players that levels have to be designed for in Super Mario games, the more I feel a disconnect when I play through those levels. 3D World, NSMB Wii and NSMB U I generally consider the worst of the bunch. I like that 3D World is getting new life on the Switch, as I think it kind of needs it and I'm a little interested in giving the game another chance away from the Wii U. It would have been great to see 3D Land brought to the Switch, but I think it has a perfect home on the 3DS. Besides the media features and maybe convenience, I think that port would be a downgrade. It's a well crafted platforming adventure for handheld play.
