It's not long until we'll be racing around in Mario Kart 8 at the slightly silly - but potentially awesome - 200cc speed. Whether a case of perspective or true to reality, the free update is bringing a level of pace that seems more than a mere one-third increase.
Up to now Nintendo UK has been posting some entertaining Time Trial runs that show off how the new speed opens up new shortcuts and routes through multiple stages. It's now the turn of the Mario Kart Facebook account, which has published a video showing off a race in Mute City. This track is certainly high on our list of must-plays in the 200cc category.
Marvel at the madness of it below - not long to wait now.

This makes me want a new F-ZERO game even more!
This is going to be amazing.
Show me your moves!
It's so weird watching it without the music O.o
I still feel with it being faster they should make it 5/5 laps instead of 3/3, also make Rainbow Road 64 a 3/3 lap race not a sprint the N64 wasn't a sprint and the best 7-10min races I have ever had in my youth
Whoa, 200cc effectively turned the final straight of the course into a Glider section! OK, not really but that air time though!!
"YOU HAVE BOOST POWER!"
I didn't even know about that other jump in the the section before the finish line...
This is going to be awesome! Now... the lack of music in this video means that we're also gonna have the option to toggle on/off the music and also turn on the volume? I just freaking hope so so I can turn up the volume all the way on this course because I can barely hear the music and it sucks because the track of F-Zero is so amazing and is unfortunate I can barely hear it.
Just makes me constantly ask...Why isn't there a frikin fully fledged and truly awesome F-Zero game on Wii U?!
Just isn't the same and makes me want a proper F-Zero more.
All this reminds me...FAST racing has been very quiet unless I've missed something, last thing a saw was a couple of pretty screenshots then nothing!?!
@Cloud02 Agreed, I don't like how newer entries reduced the number of laps.
@ULTRA-64 Indeed, I am so ready for FAST Racing Neo to release! If it's as good as it sounds like it could be, might help me forget about the lack of F-Zero on WiiU.
NINTENDO, just make an Wii U HD F-Zero for crying out loud!!
@ULTRA-64 Oh yeah...I wonder what's up with that...
@Goomba77 They could use the MK8 engine and all, it's near perfect for any racing game. Of course, they'd need to alter it, but, we could see it happen. And considering they've got the speed added in, it's almost like we have a playable prototype.
Yea, this makes me both happy and sad at the same time. I really want a new F-Zero game.
That's one crazy jump at the end there...😵
More reasons for me to get MK8 is always good.
@ULTRA-64
Sadly, I think my memory of that game faded a month or two or go, thanks for reminding me of FAST.
If it got cancelled, it would be one the biggest cancellations on Wii U but I am still plenty faithful that it can release this year or possibly next year.
Ho hooooohhh look at that air time lol! Ya, that's in the vein of F-Zero alright. In fact, those large speed jumps were one of its defining features. I GOTTA play this course once the update drops!
It almost looks hacked when Mario flies from that final jump all the way through the finish line, and mushrooms give it a 300cc feel haha
@buildz all we can do is hope they are keeping it a secret for E3... Unlikely but hey...
Those comments from Miyamoto really wound me up.
I miss f-zero, but i think nintendo is trying to consolidate their franchises into one maybe. Sometimes i think their mindset is "Why do we have two racing game universes?" I love mario Kart, but i would have much rather had F-Zero over Mario Kart being their primary racing series.
THAT'S FAST. What's the deal with the air at the final stretch, though? It's weird...
@Hudesko I don't think Miyamoto is in charge of releasing Mario Kart games... correct me if I'm wrong, though...
Is the music taken out the video so its not flagged on Youtube?
I am seriously stoked about this. F-Zero GX is my favorite racing game of all time and the 200cc announcement was one of the most hype things about the last Direct for me.
@Antiginger Seeing as the video was posted by the official Mario Kart folks, I'm going to say no.
I'm going to crash so much, I can't wait.
I can hear the F-Zero music and the announcer saying "You've got boost power" in my head when I watch that video.
That speed is awesome, this will definitely be the first course I'll try out on 200cc.
Giff new F-Zero NAO!!
Man, Mario is insufferable in that video.
"The closest we'll get to a real F-Zero experience for now"
Hopefully FAST Racing Neo releases sometime soon so we won't be able to say this...
I hope we'll get a true f-zero sometime soon. Makes this look slow.
I too wish they would increase the laps - even if only by one more - on the shorter tracks.
Haven't played MK8 since just after the last DLC. Looking forward to the new one.
That lap 1 jump at the end of the track... O_O
Wonder why they turned the music off...
To Nintendo, we need a new F-Zero now.
When i saw 200cc this was the first track i thought of, can't wait
@ULTRA-64 @Giygas_95 @Hero-of-WiiU I'm concerned about Fast Racing Neo too, the last time we heard anything was September last year (7 months ago). It sure looked like a very promising alternative to F-Zero.
@Wii-1 It could have been VS mode with the CPUs set on easy. I can't imagine it would have been that easy on Grand Prix. Well, hopefully not...
All of these 200cc videos, seem to hint at a new DLC trailer soon. I mean, it comes out next Thursday, so maybe a new trailer this Thursday???
@123akis Me too! This looks great but it's also a small kick in the balls for those that have wanted a new F-Zero since the GC!
Still can't see why the Wii U isn't a suitable system for an F-Zero racing game. Miyamoto's developed some of the greatest games of all time, but his excuse for why we haven't had an F-Zero game in so long is absolute crap.
@allav866 I think it's because every console F-Zero game has been great yet every single entry it's sold less and less. From ~3 million(SNES) to ~1 million (N64) to ~0.5 million (GC).
Miyamoto would practically be writing a death warrant for the series if they just created a new F-Zero with no gimmicks. At the very least if it's a launch title for a new system with a brand new control scheme it would be a lot more likely to reverse the series sales decline.
good luck with all that 200cc-ness !! How creative , looks great, think this can be the next upgrade in MK7 somehow? someone? do so lol !!!
That's the first course I thought about that NEEDED higher speed. AND we'll be hitting zippers on top of 200cc? Whoowee I CANNOT WAIT! C'mon 4/15!
That looks so insane! I can't wait!!!
Gotta go fast! But ya i'm really excited to play this!
