Re: Nintendo Switch OS Version 2.3.0 Is Now Live

Hordak

@stevejcrow I wish it were that simple. Even turning it off on the Switch still doesn't matter. It still randomly changes my input to the one the Switch is on unless I completely power the Switch down or just undock it completely. Ya ridiculous, really. It would be the equivalent of having to just unplug your blu-ray player when not in use so it would stop messing with your inputs intermittently. My PS4 works perfectly, even though I pretty much only play Zelda now while the PS4 collects dust. At least it doesn't randomly change my input with HDMI-CEC turned on.

Re: Nintendo Switch OS Version 2.3.0 Is Now Live

Hordak

@StarDust4Ever But my 2016 Samsung is affected by it. I will say, however, that 4K gaming on my PS4 that function properly over HDMI-CEC is totally worth it. Too bad I can't ever dock my Switch if I want to use any other function of my TV. And before I'm accused of not looking through the settings on the Switch, turning all communication settings on the Switch to "off" does not fix Nintendo's issue.

Re: Nintendo Remains Tight-Lipped On SNES Classic Mini Rumours

Hordak

I'm not sure why this is so hard for people to figure out. Nintendo is obviously going to open the Virtual Console on the Switch pretty soon and they don't want yet another method for people to poach sales from the Switch. Think of it this way. If you want to play the classic Nintendo games, what is best for NINTENDO? Letting people buy a huge chunk for $60 or making them pay $5 each on the Virtual console for 3DS and Switch? Common business sense, albeit a harsh reality for consumers. Let's be honest, we are all going to at least be tempted to buy them on Switch even if we already owned them on Wii, Wii U, 3DS, and NES Classic.

Re: Nintendo Switch OS Version 2.1.0 is Now Live

@JohnBlackstar That makes sense, yet I don't understand why Switch even needs to send out random pings when it is completely turned off or in sleep mode in the first place. My PS4 has the same feature but behaves properly.

Re: Nintendo Switch OS Version 2.1.0 is Now Live

There are pages and pages of reddit posts of people claiming the exact same issue I have. My Wii U doesn't do it. It is something in the Switch, Nvidia Shield, and also the Amazon Fire Stick that many are talking about. There is some sort of an issue , many don't know if it is hardware or software, but it is odd that these are the only devices that do it, and only on newer TVs with HDMI+CEC. People who don't have those TVs don't understand. Yes, I could go back to the old way of having 5 remote controls and manually changing inputs every time I use my TV, but I feel like the issue that the Switch is causing is handicapping the entire reason I built my system the way I did.

Re: Nintendo Switch OS Version 2.1.0 is Now Live

Hordak

@StarDust4Ever You don't have to deal with the issue and your advice is to spend more money or handicap my entire entertainment system setup. My PS4, Blu-ray player, and Apple TV do not cause this issue. For that, Nintendo does not get a free pass. Let's agree to disagree.

Re: Nintendo Switch OS Version 2.1.0 is Now Live

@StarDust4Ever thank you for your condescending reply stating I didn't explore the menu for 10 minutes. I spent more time than 10 minutes on it. Disabling it in the Switch menu, in fact, DOES NOT WORK on my 2016 4K Samsung TV. It still pings the TV regardless and randomly pulls you off of the other input you happen to be on. It's exceptionally awful if gaming on another system or watching live television to have your TV input changed without your control and you miss information. I was literally watching a live broadcast of the news last night and missed the main point of their story because the Switch changed my input for no reason. Because of this I do have to use the manual input button when I shouldn't. I probably love Nintendo products as much or more than 90% of the people in these comments sections and I hate to say Nintendo got it wrong on this one aspect. When they fix it, I will stop complaining about it.

Re: Nintendo Switch OS Version 2.1.0 is Now Live

Hordak

@SwitchVogel It doesn't work to turn it off. I'm having the same issue. No matter what I do I can't use any other inputs on my tv because the Switch keeps pinging it and automatically flipping to the input its assigned to. Turning off the HDMICEC or whatever on my TV is a fix, but renders my entire entertainment system setup useless.

Re: Hardware Review: Nintendo Switch Pro Controller

Hordak

I received my Pro Controller from Best Buy today. It's the most comfortable out of all controllers on the market for my hands. No gripes from me at all!

@Octorok385 I agree on analogue triggers being unnecessary me mushy. It's a completely overrated and blown out of proportion demand. They make no difference to me and I don't need them.

Re: Switch Won't Suffer From Early Hardware Shortages, Says Nintendo UK Boss

Hordak

I honestly feel sorry for the U.K. and their reluctance to support Nintendo (in general). I don't really understand why, in this day and age, there is still such a curious case of miscommunication between Brits and the big N. Then again, I live in Kansas (insert Wizard of Oz joke here ______) and have a completely unbridled disdain for everything to do with Microsoft. From my perspective, I have never once had a bad experience with Nintendo and have been on board with them for 30 years. Sega, Sony, and Microsoft have all left terrible tastes in my mouth at one time or another with horrible hardware issues and godawful customer service. To each their own, I suppose.

What if...

(I'll wait while you grab a grain of salt)

NINTENDO is BEHIND the "leaked" illegal unboxing video in some way? That might be giving them too much credit, but in this day and age, it is possible. Would that not be a typical viral marketing strategy to build hype without actually showing anything of complete substance?

**full disclosure**
I have not, and will not watch the video and am fully aware that the person and Nintendo both claim it was stolen and other people have been fired and charges pressed.

Re: Video: A Good Look at Why the Nintendo Switch Isn't Comparable to the Wii U GamePad

@Alshain01 yet the Switch is better in nearly every aspect as far as hardware is concerned, and the software will be there in time. No system, home or mobile, has ever released with a full slate of AAA blockbuster games. It is more powerful, it is more ergonomic, it is more versatile, it comes packaged with two controllers, it draws less power, it has a better/multi-touch screen, it can be played anywhere in the house or outside of the house, it is capable of being a VR unit, it can be linked with 4 other Switch systems inside or outside of your home, it doesn't have that awful glossy, plasticy, Fisher Price feel.

Like I said before, you're entitled to buy what you want and not buy what you don't. In my opinion, the Switch is already better than the Wii U in every single way. The cost of R&D and Hardware dictates price. If you want something cheaper, by all means, buy something cheaper. I have 43 Wii U games and thoroughly enjoyed all of them (except that terrible Animal Cross board game). I am, however, aware that removing one feature (second screen) while adding newer, better hardware in many, many other ways justifies the $299 price point. Let's not forget that the Wii U was $349, while Switch is more for $50 less. I saved money for the Switch, and I'm 100% sure I'll be enjoying it as much or more than I ever enjoyed the Wii U on March 3rd.

@Alshain01 said: "Well I like the dual screen feature, but I don't need it. But the problem with the Switch is I am paying for the extra harware and still not getting it. With the Wii U I paid for the hardware and got to use it. I pay for a battery, I pay for a second screen, I pay for that technology when buying the Switch, and that is why it is $400 without a game. For me, it will never leave the dock. So why would I pay that for something I will never use?"

Most of your argument holds no water. Saying you won't but a Switch because it has the ability to be a mobile device that you claim you will never use is your choice. Let me ask, do you own a smart phone? Do you use every function and feature it comes with? Not likely, but at least they are available should the situation ever arise. See my point?
