If it goes all digital, what happens in 10 or 20 years when my system craps out, is no longer supported and the games are no longer downloadable? I still have all of my physical NES games that are playable on any NES system and always will be. For a time we could download the original Teenage Mutant a Ninja Turtles game on the Virtual Console. My Wii crashed and I cannot redownload that game. Gone for good. If I break or lose my physical copy of a game, it's my fault. Should Nintendo or whatever publisher decide to no longer offer the game, it's not my choice or fault. Perfect example: P.T. on the PS4. Yes it was free, but it cannot be downloaded ever again if my PS4 dies. Digital is a slippery slope that I hope to never have to tolerate.
No, no, no, no, no. I refuse to go all digital now or ever. When it goes that way I'm out as a consumer. I love Nintendo, but my loyalty stops when physical options stop.
I'm torn. On the one hand, I want to try Miitomo to support Nintendo in the hopes that it will bolster their revenue and allow the company to continue grow and put out great products on all of their platforms. On the other hand, I despise smartphone "games" and have never found one of them worth more than a few minutes of my time before deleting them.
I upgraded to a New 3DS last night for SNES games. It's completely worth it, in my opinion. Paying for the games again is not an issue either since Nintendo never stated that the original 3DS would have SNES games on it. I also didn't get the New with hopes that it will eventually get something hat I'm not promised up front. It seems like that would be irrational thinking on my part. As for cross buy, upgrade fees, etc...., again, I don't care. I have paid for digital downloads of CDs I bought years ago. Same difference to me.
The list of games I want is not short. I know some of these will NEVER happen, but here are a few I would love to have on the go:
Hagane
TMNT IV
TMNT Tournament Fighter
Clay Fighters
Castlevania: Dracula X
Actraiser
Earthworm Jim
Demon's Crest
Knights of the Round
Magic Sword
Battletoads in Battlemaniacs
Shadowrun
Gradius III
Spiderman Venom: Maximum Carnage
Saturday Night Slam Masters
Batman Returns
R-Type III
Nosferatu
Super Star Wars/Empire/Return of the Jedi
The Adventures of Batman & Robin
Stunt Race FX
Hyperzone

I don't care what kind of tech goes inside the NX. It's what comes out of the NX that matters (to me).
This generation and their "it has to have the best specs or it will fail" mentality confuses me. Then again, I've always been a little contrary to public opinion.
I've been playing this game for a few days now and I regret wasting my money on it. I really don't enjoy any single thing about it. Unfortunately, I fell for the hype.
I pre-ordered it from Amazon just now, but the box art doesn't clearly state whether or not it contains a physical copy of the games or download codes. There is some writing on the side, but I can't make it out. I suppose I can always cancel or return it if it isn't physical.
So, does this confirm a physical copy of the game in the US or will they try some crap like giving us a digital download code with the purchase of the Gold Mega Man?
@kobashi100 "Also he was right about the Wii U. Said it would bomb hard and that's exactly what it did."
...yet I can honestly say I've had more fun playing the Wii U than any system from any company since the SNES. Maybe it has bombed at retail, but my 50+ Wii U game library has brought me more enjoyment in the last 20 years of my 35 years of gaming than anything. I'm also going to mention that I own virtually every released western home console since the Atari 2600 with the exceptions of the Atari Lynx, Virtual Boy, Neo Geo AES, Sega Saturn and Xbox One.
I was on the fence about Miitomo, but since Michael Pacter says it's going to fail, I'm now 100% going to buy it just to support Nintendo and (hopefully) prove that idiot wrong.
Considering that I just dropped the cash to buy an Analogue NT, I assume Nintendo will start a reproduction of the NES for about $500 less than what I just paid. That's usually my luck.
Ask gamers/3rd parties what they want and actually GIVE them what they want. I'm not just talking about current Nintendo supporters, but all of them in general.
I'm sure the first thing they won't say is "great 3rd party games like Raving Rabbids and dancing games from Ubisoft."
Here is another idea, 3rd Parties:
Make great games for all platforms and release them all at the same time. Don't release a game for XB1 and/or PS4 then complain and pull support because the port doesn't sell on NX when it's released 1.5 years later.
If NX is a hybrid home/portable and we still can't buy and take digital SNES games on the go, I'm out. If there is one thing I would want before I die it's a portable system that allows me to have a ton of SNES games on it. That would make me happy forever.
I still haven't seen one shred of evidence from Nintendo that states the NX is HARDWARE. They call it a PLATFORM. Aside from that, here are some issues:
The system is woefully underpowered Nintendo admitted they had no idea how to make HD games People still refer to the Wii U as just Wii The name of the Wii U was one of the worst decisions Nintendo has ever made Nintendo is terrible at marketing and PR While Amibo is a good idea supply issues have thoroughly p****ed a lot of people off The complete lack of a real account system is shameful System storage capacity is so small it hurts Nintendo says they know what we want, but when is the last time they have actually delivered what the loud majority of their fans wanted?
We wanted a darker, more adult Zelda game; we get cartoonish/painted games. We wanted Super Mario Galaxy 3; we got Super Mario 3D World. We wanted a new, TRUE Metroid game; we got Metroid Soccer. We wanted Retro to work on said Metroid; we got more Donkey Kong. We wanted a new F-Zero; we got nothing. We want a new Kid Icarus; we got nothing. We want good 3rd party games; we get dancing games from Ubisoft. We wanted N64, GameCube, TG16, Genesis, NeoGeo games on Virtual console; we got GBA, DS and Wii games instead. etc., etc., etc..
That said, when anyone in my family plays on the Wii U they Usually have a smile and clearly have fun. I can't say the same When they try my PS4 or XB1.
P.S. The Wii U is the new NeoGeo. No one is willing to risk making games for it except the parent company.
"...will include a Challenge Remix mode that presents scenarios to apparently test veterans but also help newcomers get familiar with the mechanics"
Translation: young gamers today need their hands held and trophies awarded for everything because we are raising a generation based on coddling and entitlement.
Disclaimer: I am aware this comes across as harsh, but it is clearly meant to be humorous.
The whole Amiibo thing just has me confused. I'm not sure the general consumer has any idea what they actually do, what games each figure are really useful for and why we actually need them. In a sense, it's like the Wii U has been all along.
What if Nintendo develops NX based on the same architecture as Xbox One and Playstation 4 but just makes the system more powerful/flexible? Is that not a viable option? Wouldn't that show their desire to lure 3rd parties back into the fray?
I guess I didn't follow it closely enough, but since it's basically built almost entirely for online multiplayer, I'm 90% leaning toward not buying Splatoon. I love Nintendo as much as the next person, but I'm having a difficult time with accepting online multiplayer as a sole reason for a game to exist. I hate to ask, but am I getting too old/jaded/cynical to be a gamer anymore?
Ladies and gentlemen THIS is exactly why we need to stop pre-ordering anything and everything in the gaming world. More times than not, these crowd funded games simply don't live up to expectations or promises. I can only think of a few examples ( I'm looking at you, Shovel Knight!) that totally blow us away but generally, games from KIck Starter are overhyped, ask for way too much money and ask us to wait way too long.
It makes me laugh that it's still so difficult to accurately emulate a chip that made its retail debut in 1993 and was running at roughy 10.7mhz in the first iteration. 22 years later, with systems on a chip that can produce millions of polygons with no hassle, we don't really have a reasonable way to handle games that were only rendering a few hundred polygons. I, by no means, am a systems/software engineer, but this is still funny to me.
Not surprised. In addition to certain governmental fees and regional regulations, it feels to me like there are about 300 new games released every week. Sadly, I've begun to feel completely overwhelmed by the entire video game industry. Sorry to the "indie" developers, but the market has become so completely oversaturated that I just don't even bother with very many games from new companies anymore (Shovel Knight being the main exception) unless there is an actual physical release. I STILL cannot get myself to purchase digital only content.
