Badland Games has revealed that it is bringing Axiom Verge to the Nintendo Switch this August in the form of Axiom Verge: Multiverse Edition.
This new edition includes a specially commissioned documentary by 2 Player Productions regarding the making of the game. Also included is a deluxe booklet with developer commentary and artwork, as well as with a double-sided poster and CD soundtrack; the latter item is bundled exclusively with the Switch version, while it is being offered as a pre-order incentive for all other versions.
The PS4, PS Vita, and Wii U versions of Multiverse Edition will cost €29.99 / $29.99 / £24.99, while the Switch version will be more expensive at €39.99.
Regarding the documentary, developer Thomas Happ said:
People often asked me about the early days of Axiom Verge - about how I was able to make a game completely on my own over the course of 5 years of evenings and weekends while holding down a full time job. The long form documentary format really made it possible for me to take the time and explain that process as well as go into some detail about the difficulties of balancing work and family responsibilities.
Finally, Axiom Verge is coming to the Switch. Will you be investing in this package?

Yay for the $10.00 dollar Switch price bump.
That's great news about the Wii U physical release and it's coming to Europe. I will most likely buy it.
Cue the tirade of complaints about the Switch price hike and rightly so.
Does anybody know where I can throw my money at this preorder for switch?
I guess the physical incentives are nice for collectors, but i already bought this game twice at full price, so it's a no go for me when I get a switch. The vita version is pretty good, and has cloud saves/loads.
With all the trouble Tom Happ had in releasing a single game on Nintendo platforms, it's a wonder why he still bothers.
Nice.
Ill take it!
Guess thats 3 versions I'll be buying.
Will play the Switch version though.
Will the Switch digital version be cheaper?
I did not get this game so I'm feeling not as burned. Now for that Switch Tax for physical releases...in time that may level out. Still going to get it because it looks alright.
I'm glad this finally got approved! It really is a good game and the closest to a 2d Metroid we may ever get again! 😢
@Exy Sell 100k copies and you will wonder no more.
Glad to hear it's coming. Never played at myself. Would prefer physical and Switch but slightly unhappy about the price hike. Definitely happy for the free soundtrack included to make up for the difference.
I'd be glad if they release a regular physical version to Switch. But I don't expected it.
@Tsurii At some point, you have to cut your losses and accept some things just aren't going to happen in an economically feasible way.
Awesome game on Wii U. Would love to get it again for sure....just not sure for $40. I hate to say that since it is a great game. I just plain out don't have the money, especially with Arms, Splatoon 2, and Sonic Mania this Summer.
I might get that on Wii U.
the Switch version will be more expensive at €39.99

Nope! I'll for sure get it on Steam now. The normal price is €18 but it will be about €10 when it goes on sale in two/three weeks.
I WAS WAITING FOR THIS.
This is great news.
What about just a digital release?
So, I get that cartridges (game cards) cost more to manufacture than DVD's/Blu-rays, but why is the Switch version $10 more than the Vita version which is also on a cartridge?!? I'd like to hear their reasoning for this.
YES YES AND YES I AM ALL OVER THE SWITCH VERSION , can't wait ..
Wii U is still alive....
I'm 100% in! I would, honestly, rather pay $60 for this versus something like Call of Duty or Battlefield. Axiom Verge defines gaming, as far as I'm concerned.
Good show on Switch, this is one going onto the buy list. I wanted this back when I care to get stuff on PS4 but disliked download only.
Wow, one man dev team? This went from meh for me to making me perk up my ears.
Yes! I'm going to buy them both!
Seems like Axiom Verge is taking the "Rime approach" of detailing with the "Switch tax" by bundling in a non-preorder bonus soundtrack CD exclusively with Switch version of the game.
Awesome, I'll get it again even though I have it on other platforms.
That's awesome! I did not buy it on Wii U hoping it would make it to the Switch and here we go! I hope i will be able to grab a physical version, if not i don't mind digital version either!
If the Switch is more expensive for the format, why is the Vita version cheaper?.
Haha, I've been waiting for this. The price is a little steep, but I loved the game on the Vita.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Agreed I'm fed up with the whining over the $10 price hike for a physical Switch release. People can't get beyond their own self centered needs to realize downloads cost far less than physical, and Switch physical costs notably more than a cheap couple cent/penny burned disc.
Suck it up and pay for it, or get it elsewhere, but do it knowing you're harming the ability of yourself and others who want physical media if you run for it. If not enough copies sell then physical if not total platform support dries up. $10 that much? Sorry if you can't stuff your face at a fast food joint once a month for a little perspective.
@Oscarzxn Cost of the medium. Switch parts are fresh off the line in each cart. The stuff in the Vita is like what 5 years old now? Prices drop, a lot as time rolls along, so the margin is there to allow it to sell for less comfortably while you'd need to make another $5 or more to cover the Switch expense factoring in parts but also potential licensee fees. I don't know what the price from Sony Vita to Nintendo Switch fees are to license per game.
Seems like they did get back to this guy after all!
Also seems like they're not in a hurry to re-release Super Metroid on VC for Switch.
Is the switch getting a digital release?
@tanookisuit
There are no license-per-game fees anymore as far as I know of. You pay for the kits you need, and they take a cut from the sales price.
The platform holder's cut for Switch and Vita is likely the same.
YES!
groans loudly
mumurs softly; finally
AWESOME NEWS!
Sorry if I missed it, but as a strictly digital Switch gamer, will there be an eShop version?
@Damo Was there any mention of the digital price of Axiom Verge on the Switch?
I'm guessing if there is a digital version the price won't be the same as this "special edition".
Very pleased
Anybody know where we can lay down a pre-order for the Switch version? I just checked Amazon Canada, Best Buy Canada, and EB Games Canada and none have the game available to pre-order (on any platform actually).
If I can get the download-only version for $20 I'll be very interested in playing this one! Not excited enough to drop $40 on it, though.
I guess they finally got through to Nintendo to make the Switch version happen!! Retail for me of course!! On all formats! 😆
I respect the developer for having created such a polished game by himself, but I can't help but feel this is one of the most overrated games ever. There's greatly executed mechanics, but the levels are uninteresting and repetitive/confusing, and the attempts at humor really bring down the story for me. I got about half way through and can't bring myself to finish it.
@Vriess Thanks for the heads up! I've called myself getting some of the 3rd party games I have on the Wii U on Steam since Nintendo pretty much crapped out on that system....
This is amazing, WIIU and Switch physicals for me.
Great news! I can definitely foresee much play on the couch with this one.
Yes I want it. Never buy it or play it so I'm glad is coming.
@joey302 snap!
yessssssssssssssssssssssssssss
I just hope there will be a physical release for PC as well!
Shoo dirty scalpers, shoo. Be trying to pick up both Ninty versions.
@DarthFoxMcCloud
Give it a day or two. Canada can be slow at times. Fellow Canadian here.
Due to cost, I may just invest in the Wii U version. It's nice that this is finally coming to the Switch, though.
Oh stop it now. My wallet can only take so much. Hollow Knight and now this? I don't want to keep saying day one in comment sections because it makes me look like I just play anything indiscriminately!
switch or wiiu? hmmmmm
Hoorah!!
I've been waiting to get this until it was on the switch. Day one purchase for me! I'm excited to finally play this!
I'm so excited for this on Switch! Never played it so I'll be getting it for sure.
Skipped it on WiiU. So gonna go physical with this one!
@Exy what trouble?
I'm glad this is getting a switch release
Looks expensive for what it is
Nice. A lot of people wanted this on Switch....hope that they get the game now!
Day 1 purchase for me on vita, already have digital version
30 euro... hahahaha!
Huh. I was all set to complain about the special Switch price hike - then I watched the trailer. You know what, I'll take this anyway. Looks amazing.
I definitely need this in portable form. Can't wait to hit that pre-order button!
Yeah, I'll get it.
Might get this. I shall try the demo.
Awesome news. Boo for the Switch tax...but that's what we get for having the crazy popular console that for now is hard to come by. They know we'll pay for it. And they're right
Meanwhile, Vita, ALSO using a gamecard format, is the same price as the rest.
Thrilled to hear it's a true "real game". A.K.A. physical release day one.
@Amsterdamsters One machine is popular with a proven owner base that will put money out like crazy for their new hardware so far. The other is Vita. But yeah, I agree with you in that I'm sick of hearing about the "cartridges are a mistake they're so expensive every game is $10 more" when there's no way there's more than a few dollars difference if that.....it's just plain old market pricing.
The digital version will be $20

Glad to see this make it.
When I get money in my life again I will definitely get this. So cool they made a Wii U physical version as well! The documentary sounds interesting!
Nice! It's finally making it to Switch!
@YANDMAN oh yea! Let's hope Nintendo keeps letting the games through now ports or not! 👍
@Pod Truly hope you're right and that's not just how the download only stuff goes. I know they do that on there, and annoyingly in earlier days they took such a cut if you didn't breach that number sold you got nothing making it a risky gamble.
@MrPuzzlez
Just to be clear, I'm not 100% sure about the sale on Steam, but it's likely. Steam Summer sales are rumored to start June 22nd and since Christmas of last year I've seen Axiom Verge on sale twice for about €10-11. So, my guess is that it's likely to happen again during the summer sales.
@thesilverbrick It will. $20 in all platforms.
I'd really like to play a demo of this first.
I bet it'll be like $60 as well no doubt. 😒
I am picking up both Switch and Wii U copies please.
@joey302 Its funny i spoke to Thomas Happ a long time ago and begged him for a wiiu physical release, im not saying for one minute that had anything to do with it happening but i am very grateful this fantastic game is getting one.
@YANDMAN sooo many indie games need a physical retail release!!! Strange how it's not coming to Xbox one no??
The Switch version is 10 Euro more expensive...of course! Trolololol!
just need to know where to preorder it from now
@joey302 The PS4 is the best for this. So so many awesome indie games going physical since Sony agreed the licensing deal for small publishers and companies. Now that Limited Run now have a Switch licence we should see even more of this on the platform. I'd personally forgot the xbox existed...........thats probably in the long term why it has no port.
@joey302 I don't know about a physical release but I have the digital for xbox one.
@hendie001 yes me too!
@YANDMAN that's good news about LR having a Switch license! Retail ALWAYS first choice for me!
What I don't understand about the Switch price hike is that the game is only about 160MB in size, so they wouldn't even need a high capacity cartridge (Nintendo really should have factored in game cards under 1GB for cases like these).
@sillygostly But then thats just another diversion to the format, more cost and another thing to consider for production, Thats never going to happen.
@joey302 yeah man every single time and there is a trend currently in older titles getting physical releases and here on the switch too. I own them all in digital across various formats but iv'e pre-ordered them again in physical.
@YANDMAN I'm with ya man. Feel like any day Nintendo is gonna shut that Wii shop down. Bye bye 300 classic games!!
About how long is the game? I wouldn't mind the $40 tag if its lengthy enough, looks extremely interesting.
@KillerTan98 Just buy it, its a killer game created solely by one man on his own. Its plenty long enough, I played it on and off for probably 20 hours before i was done with everything and it has extra sped run mode. Happ should be applauded and supported for being a one man indie machine that is now bringing a physical release.
