Re: UK Schools Want To Bring The Cardboard Creativity Of Nintendo Labo Into The Classroom

Hordak

@cleveland124
We have a building principal who is very supportive of trying new things to get kids engaged. He purchased a Nintendo Switch and three of each Kit. He only asked that the kids themselves give him a daily update with their progress which they have been filming with the Raberry Pi they had just programmed for the event. We are also going to add some progress videos to our school website. Trust me, the kids are currently very excited but, like you are wondering, it will be interesting to see how long the excitement holds on. That is why we are having them essentially try to make the standard constructions with different types of material besides the cardboard.

Re: Could Switch's Non-Compliant USB-C Spec Be To Blame For Third-Party Docks Bricking Consoles?

Plug and play third party accessories have always been junk, in my opinion, anyway. Nearly every third party controller, cable, power supply, etc. that I've ever owned since the days of the Atari 2600 have felt like garbage or eventually failed. The only official piece of hardware I've ever owned that failed were the three Xbox 360's that red-ringed on me that I foolishly purchased from Microsoft.

Re: ESA Attacks World Health Organisation's Decision To Classify Gaming Addiction As A Mental Disorder

Take from this what you wish, but I say it with a slightly guilty conscience. I coach athletics...football, basketball, track & field, and baseball. Watch the way fans in a crowd react to a play or a call from an official that they disagree with. Watch the way coaches on the sideline act when they feel a referee has missed or made a bad call. Watch how soccer/football/basketball/baseball/etc. players act out when calls don’t go their way or even when they are flopping to get a call. What about riots when someone’s team loses?

People call sports fans, coaches, and players/athletes “passionate” when we should all really look at it for what it is a large majority of the time = disturbing. Try to act that way in any other setting. Act that way ALL of the time in another setting...professional, social, in a military setting, as a babysitter, etc., etc., etc. What would be considered acceptable behavior or acceptable reactions when things don’t go your way at work, in school, at your grandparents’ house, in church, and so on?

I see frightening things on an almost daily basis as a coach and I make a very concerted effort to disallow my athletes from having ANY disrespectful or violently emotional reactions by modeling controlled behavior myself. Sometimes I feel like the culture of sports is too much and out of control, but I still want to make a difference. I try. I try my hardest, but the fight is getting more and more difficult in recent years. There is more finger point, more social media vitriol, more disrespectful comments from parents, kids, even people I don’t know. The strangest thing is, even when we are successful, people are still overreacting irrationally. Again, I find it...disturbing.

Saying video game addiction is a mental illness is sad. Although I agree that we should all turn off the games, go outside, and get some fresh air from time to time, I’m no authority on the subject. I will say one last thing, however.

Does the type of behavior in athletics seem a little too close to home? Was that type of general behavior something that was as prevalent before online gaming became the norm (perhaps forced upon us??)? It’s all a reflection of the world we live in, but man...typical behavior seems like it’s getting more and more out of control.

Re: Nintendo Switch Reaches 10 Million Global Sales In Its First Nine Months

One thing that I think industry presictors failed to foresee when saying console gaming was going by the wayside is...

...smartphone and tablet fatigue. Many, many people I talk to simply don’t want to continuously upgrade, have turned their iPads/tablets into coffee table music players, and generally don’t find the next model to be necessary and exciting and are becoming more apathetic about playing games or whatever on those devices.

Console gaming, on the other hand...

Re: Review: Slain: Back From Hell (Switch eShop)

Hordak

I would personally give it a 7/10 or somewhere close to that. To me, it's better than the reviewer leads on. Yes, it's difficult, but learn to adapt to the quirks (which is required in almost EVERY GAME) and you'll have fun with it.

Re: Slain: Back From Hell is Out on Switch Soon

The soundtrack, atmosphere, and character designs are the best qualities of the game. Versatility in controls is a little ho-hum, but it’s still just good old fashioned fun to play. for those who complain about the brutally hard difficulty, to me it feels...nostalgic? Reminds of my childhood when games made you earn success.

Re: Guide: All The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild amiibo Unlocks

Hordak

For the Wolf Link Amiibo (from Gamefaqs):
Start new game in TP. Save immediately. Quit to Wii U menu. Boot up the game. Should see the Amiibo logo on the title screen.

Press start and it should ask for you to register your Amiibo ( may have to erase the amiibo data first ). Do that and once done quit the game and boot up BotW. Scan the wolf link amiibo.

He now has 20 hearts.

Re: Your Joy-Con Can Now Have a D-Pad if You’re Brave Enough

Hordak

Just give me some PRO JOYCONs that are ergonomical and feel like the grips on a real controller. I essentially can’t even use the Switch in handheld mode because it’s just too small, the joycons are too flat, and the button/stick placement is just all wrong for large hands.

Re: SteamWorld Dig 2 Gets a Hot New HOME Screen Icon

I guess I don’t understand. Is the D2 thing the new logo or the old logo. If it’s the new one, what did the old one look like? If it’s the old one, what does the new one look like? To me, the D2 looks cheap and lazy. I simple comparison shot would have been extremely useful to this article.
