Long before Mario and the gang got violent on the soccer pitch in Super Mario Strikers there was Soccer Brawl on the Neo Geo. This futuristic footy game was released in arcades in 1992 and will be the next Neo Geo game headed to the Switch on 23rd November.
In Soccer Brawl you play as either cyborgs or bionically-enhanced humans, while the action plays out like a regular soccer match. There's a element of violence on offer as the title might suggest; for example, defenders can launch electric charges to stop an incoming opponent on their tracks.
Soccer Brawl never did get a release on the Wii Virtual Console, so this fresh to Nintendo platforms. Do you plan on picking it up next week?

And the games keep coming. Inazuma 11 or however that's spelled got me into the whole "soccer/brawler" though is more of an rpg really.
Love this game. Love it!
wait, what's the difference between a cyborg and a "bionically-enhanced human"?
Basketball . . . Soccer . . . almost there . . . c'mon Hamster, Baseball Stars Professional for the win!!!
Screenshot Spain Vs Korea reminds me 2002 world cup when Korea cheated
This has given me a strange yearning to play Speedball 2.
Might have to dig my gba micro out.
I traded in my copy of Fifa while I evaluate EA's support of Switch and their greedy lootbox nonsense. Totally love this game and will probably end up getting Fifa again when it's reduced to 5 quid or hope PES is released.
@Adamario About 57 million new us dollars.
I played the arcade version of this at the place where I played indoor soccer as a kid... very fun... I also have it on an emulator.
FINALLY!!
I've been asking for this since the first neo-geo games (post history will confirm this )
Insta-buy..
Football
Radicool! Many an hour was spent playing this at my local swimming baths back in the day.
Looking forward to giving this one a go. Although I've still not got round to buying Street Hoop yet. Man, so many games, so little time.
@kokjopan As if Spain never cheated?
@GrailUK I wonder if Nintendo is going to revive their Mario Strikers IP, tho.
@kukabuksilaks Yep same here. I've mentioned it a few times over the last few months. It shall be mine as soon as it hits the Eshop.
@Adamario at a guess: bio enhancing will be like super strong arms using super steroids, and cyber is tech enhancements ?
@GC-161 I reckon Nintendo are going to be hella productive on Switch to capitalise on it's popularity! I wouldn't rule any IP off the table.
Is this better than Fifa?
@GrailUK Dude, look up world cup 2002 if u desire.
The image reminds me of speedball 2.
@kokjopan Haha, my friend had that on Gamecube. It was so atmospheric. (I had Sega Soccer Slam!)
@Chris77 Nothing will ever live up to "Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe" but I do wish some company would have the guts to bring back the genre, its been too damn long.
Here is what you can expect next week. Grab a friend and have fun!
Where is the list I've heard of that has the NeoGeo releases for the next few weeks? I'd like to know if I need I should buy this or keep my current eShop balance to get something better coming up.
Good memories of this one. Will probably get it.
Man I am so excited about this.... I totally forgot this game existed until I just watched a video on it. Many a quarters were spent on this game!
This looks ok. If we could get Baseball Stars 2 on the Switch ASAP, that would be great. Also, could companies like Capcom and Konami please follow in SNK's footsteps and start releasing old arcade games on the Switch while Nintendo continues to lag unnecessarily with getting the Virtual Console up and running?
Violence is the only way to make soccer interesting.
I'd like to see more variety of these each week and more than one at a time (ex sports game, beat em up, fighting, scrolling shooter, platformer). What's happened to the Nintendo hamster games? We've only got Mario Bros, where's punch out?
@Shiryu completely, that was such a brilliant game. Another one that would be perfect on the switch.
@Hordak SPOILERS for next 4 weeks:
-"Soccer Brawl" (obviously!)
-"World Heroes"
-"Top Hunter: Roddy & Cathy"
-"The Last Blade"
