Similar to our recent feature about 20 games we feel should be featured on the SNES Mini, this video slapper-together-of decided to have a go at it as well.
Make sure you check out the video above that relates unsurprisingly closely to the title of this article, and why not let us know your definitive list for this miniaturised console in the comments down below?
Im agree with all the games. 21 games are very not enough.
In my head its also missing:
Power rangers 1 & 2
Super Double dragon
Meh, still waiting for VC
Zombies Ate My Neighbors really should have been on the system to begin with. It's currently missing a lot of fun multiplayer titles that the SNES had, especially since it comes with 2 controllers, so more games like that would have covered a bigger variety of games. Good list! I found the one in the other article had a few too many obscure titles that not enough people would care about.
I won't be happy until the Super Play Top 100 games are residing on my Switch!
Wish there was a list in addition to the video. DKC2 should have been included. Either way, I’d prefer VC on Switch over buying a SNES Mini.
Truly the SNES... it just keeps on giving.
I think it's telling about this collection of games, and perhaps the SNES library as a whole, that even with only the 20+1 it has, it's an insanely great collection of some of the greatest games of all time. I was talking with one of my coworkers about the games included and so many times I said the phrase "defining game of its genre."
That said, I echo what some said elsewhere in the comments that it could've used a few more multiplayer games. Maybe even release a mini multitap attachment like this?
@SmaMan Or at least have a third port for the included Secret of Mana
I'm surprised at how much I'm enjoying the original mario kart! But would prefer it if this was portable on my swItch !
It needs Hagane and Rendering Rangers.
DKC2 and 3 are the reason I'm not that excited about SNES mini.
I'd trade Star Fox 2 for them easily.
Should've made it Mario Allstars + Mario World. Kill 5 birds with one stone. Plus it's version of World had some subtle-but-nice changes.
Over time I seem to be getting less and less bothered about not having a SNES mini, especially watching videos like this.
Would rather VC on the Switch as you can go portable and use tabletop mode too, Switch is just perfect for the VC.
What, no Captain Novolin? (I kid, I kid....)
Add up ANOTHER Konami game... Metal Warriors!
Can't wait for the 15 games that should've been on the Snes mini haiku!
The one game that's in the current SNES Mini selection that I personally think didn't really needed to be there and could easily have been replaced with many better choices would be Kirby's Dream Course (all the others are totally valid top picks imo). Personally, I'd happily have seen it replaced for any one of the following titles (which I think are all genuinely deserving choices, for various reasons, and I mean even beyond just my personal taste/opinion):
Super Mario All-Stars
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time
There's actually 11 titles in my list, and I even have a few more I'd add if I were making personal choices for games that maybe don't always either appear near the top of most "Best of SNES" lists or just make good sense because they're major first party titles and/or great multi-player games.
Needed to have more RPGs. Terranigma and chrono trigger should have been mandatory and maybe breath of fire 2.
So... Am I alone when I say Super Bomberman should’ve been a game invluded on the SNES Mini?...
Definitely agree about final fight. It's ridiculous that not a single one made it to the snes classic!
This should be part of a collection.
I just think these mini consoles should specialise in 2-player games, as they're so good for that. Of course, you've got to have the best single-player games, like Zelda and Metroid, but Final Fight 2 certainly would have been good for the SNES Mini.
I'm still surprised that Chrono Trigger didn't make the cut, it seemed like a shoo-in.
@GrailUK what this guy said.
But seriously, anybody looking for the definitive top 100 SNES games need only refer to Super Play - the go-to on anything and everything SNES related.
Why do we have to have the Axelay soundtrack throughout this vid??
NHL 94, Mortal Kombat 1-3, Final Fight 1, Beavis and Butthead, The Simpsons (Barts Nightmare and Virtual Bart) Fatal Fury, Clay Fighters
oh FML! I just sold TMNT to someone for 8 bux (i know, i know... but i didn't realize the value of the game until after I sold it and looked on amazon and ebay...) I sold a bunch of games for 5-10 bux a pop cuz I needed 200 bux a week or so ago. I got fleeced with a few of the games I sold. I basically let this dude come to my apartment and just pick out games and named prices 5,7,8, or 10... he left with a big sack of games and I got my 200, but turtles IV was one of them and now i'm mad. I really thought it was on the SNES classic Mini. what made me even think that!?!?
@rushiosan I love the DKC trilogy, but I am so glad that Star Fox 2 finally got to see the light of day.
but if you can't beat the first level of star fox 1, you can't unlock Star Fox 2. F THAT NOISE!!!!!!!!
I've said it before and I'll say it again... Freaking Earthworm Jim!!
@HyliasHero I'm not that hyped since it was an unfinished game regardless of coming out over a decade later, I think 64 and Zero were better as Star Fox 2 than its SNES counterpart.
Gonna play just for novelty if they ever release it on VC or if the "finished" SNES Classic ROM leaks somewhere.
@impurekind spot on
Honestly, Super Mario All Stars should have been a no-brainer to its inclusion on the SNES Classic, especially since its Wii version is pretty much gone. In fact, I'm also puzzled as to how Kirby's Dream Course got in over Dream Land 3.
In my opinion, there's 3 games on the SNES Classic Mini that shouldn't have been included. They are Kirby's Dream Course, Star Fox and Star Fox 2.
They should instead have been replaced with Chrono Trigger, Terranigma and International Superstar Soccer Deluxe.
Worms, Civilization, Doom, Sim City, Mortal Kombat, NHL '94, Super Tennis, Mega Man Soccer, Madden NFL '94, NBA Jam Tournament Edition
It's Star Fox, and yeah I found that a bit jarring too.
Have you ever thought Nintendo is keeping other good games to release a SNES classic mini 2 one day?
@rushiosan I thoroughly enjoyed being able to play an officially released version of a piece of gaming history that has haunted me for years. Star Fox 2 has a lot of cool ideas.
@Fandabidozi Ruined a good feature for me! Could have had the music for each game or something less repetitive at least.
PS. the Krankies. LOL
Aye, it wisnae sae fandabidozi. 😉
Why in the world would you pick "Final Fight 2" over the much superior "Final Fight 3"?! The only thing the second game has over the third one is a hotter playable female character.
If licensing wasn’t an issue, I would have definitely wanted Super Star Wars.
@BulbasaurusRex - I was about to make a comment about exactly the same, except in my own words.
You even got Guy in this game an many more moves, including supers! The bosses are not that inspiring though, but it's the same for Final Fight 2.
Also, could have been awesome if Haggar were able to pick up the sailor boss's anchor, missed opportunity :/
@DarthNocturnal I didn’t not know that. What are said changes in the original Mario World vs the combo cart Mario world?
The main change was to Luigi. His sprites were modified to make him look like, well, Luigi, as opposed to the original “Green Mario“.
Also, it had 4 save files as opposed to 3.
